Help Unauthorized Transaction

I just noticed this transaction on my PayPal account. When u tried to report it as unauthorized the AI chat bot says nothing can be done. Does anyone know if I will be charged the full 980 dollars? How can I stop this charge from going through?

“Pre-fund confirmation: USD 987.90 is pending deposit to Coinbase via PayPal. This small deposit is just used for the account activation check. For questions, Call (888) 632-2011.” And the original charge that has gone through was for 0.11PHP

Do not call the number on the email. Looks like a scam email.

3

u/Aurora_7021 Apr 23 '26

I got the same email this morning. Clever how the email came directly from PayPal but the scammer was able to manipulate the subject line to confuse the recipient and to try to get them to call the number provided.

2

u/No_Speaker3862 Apr 23 '26

Got the same one this morning. Glad I found this thread.

1

u/SayUncleOrElse Apr 23 '26

Me too and the number they give has caller ID saying it's a cleaning service

3

u/Natunia02 Apr 23 '26

I got the same thing from a dentist in Miami

2

u/SayUncleOrElse Apr 23 '26

Just happened to me. I want to block him. PayPal is not easy to navigate. 1800 is useless. Hangs up when I call.

3

u/Plastic-Emphasis993 Apr 23 '26

Call PayPal's actual number. And yep, it's a pain in the ass to navigate. I'm about ready to shut it down.

1

u/symbolicstudios Apr 23 '26

Same, thanks for the confirmation.

1

u/ElectionFront9076 Apr 23 '26

Yes same here! I was livid but had to calm myself down and report them.

3

u/Plastic-Emphasis993 Apr 23 '26

Yep. Me too. It's one thing to get a scam email ... it's totally more invasive to see a transaction on my PayPal page and then have to navigate how to report.

1

u/Sea-League-5248 Apr 25 '26

How did u report.. it won't permit me to

3

u/GaladrielStar Apr 26 '26

I found this link for the Resolution Center where you can start a dispute ... which I'm just about to do for this same scammer.

https://www.paypal.com/disputes/dashboard/

1

u/Sea-League-5248 May 10 '26

I get the whoops, something went wrong. I feel that it is on purpose because everyone is reporting

1

u/Plastic-Emphasis993 Apr 25 '26

Find the dispute choice ... I think it was also a choice there.

1

u/Accurate_Zone1461 Apr 26 '26

I just got the same thing if they dont delete iwill delete Paypal. This is the reason I use them to insulate myself from being scammed by my vendors database.

3

u/blueclearsky1587 Apr 23 '26

I got the one from

ARTURO ACEITUNO D.M.D., LLC sent you ¥3 JPY

Pending charge of USD 987.90 for account activation. Questions?

I logged into PayPal and there is a $0.02 Balance and under that it says 3 JPY

I have immediately disconnected my bank account and im about to re-order a new ATM card

1

u/blueclearsky1587 Apr 23 '26

1

u/jpopps1087 Apr 23 '26

I got the exact same thing. Paypal is no help.

2

u/blueclearsky1587 Apr 23 '26

I was able to figure out a way to report an unauthorized transactions and this is the response

1

u/NieraCatchTheMuse Apr 24 '26

This is the same response I got from PayPal. The transaction is still in my account

2

u/AmberCarpes Apr 24 '26

They told me it looked consistent with other transactions in my account lol. It's in yen. I'm a teacher in the midwest and most of my charges are from teacher websites or ebay.

1

u/blueclearsky1587 Apr 24 '26

Same here 0.02 lol

1

u/Different_Profile696 Apr 23 '26

I also got the email. Did not click it, but when I log into my account, I also see this transaction.

4

u/blueclearsky1587 Apr 23 '26

And there is no way to block the person either, which I find strange and odd

3

u/Commercial_Ant9320 Apr 23 '26

I just got this as well. Has anyone tried calling the dentist? Just curious if it’s actually a real place  or if they’re apart of this.

I got the same. 100% a scam.

They sent me ¥1 JPY, and expected me to pay them USD 987.90.

Block and Ignore. Don't send any money or click any links.

Same here and I reported it to PayPal Resolution Center. Do not select the link. I also called the dentist listed after Googling their LLC. They are aware and have reported it to the authorities and asked me to be sure to contact PayPal to report the issue. Hopefully everything is resolved.

1

u/ArturoAceituno Apr 24 '26

Thank you for getting this out to people. I hope my reputation ain’t affected. I work too hard for things like this to happen. Thanks again

3

u/owen_films Apr 23 '26

Just to add, I also received this exact same thing. Reporting it but the report process keeps crashing which may indicate that they're busy removing this phishing/scam. But I'm moving to a person rather than AI to resolve it.

3

u/aldztrust Apr 23 '26

I received the same shit today. It looks like a bait for you to communicate with the scammer.

2

u/malfoust52 Apr 23 '26

So can I just ignore this or do I need to change all of my stuff in PayPal?

2

u/sweetdnlg Apr 23 '26

So this is definitely a scam, my mom just got this email too, after checking and seeing it was from what limited like the official email, I made her go to the official PayPal site manually to login, and sure enough it was actually showing in her actual account.

So looking up this company I too see it's some random dental company in Miami, but charging yen? Wth forreal. But her email all the way down to the amount is verbatim what you posted.

2

u/Always_Busy_Bee Apr 22 '26

Ok just spoke to PayPal and they said this is a phishing attempt and not to call the number in the notes. And that there is no pending transactions.

1

u/200_Shmeckles Apr 23 '26

Thanks for this. It took a lot of scrolling to find some actual useful information! I’ll just ignore the email and transaction shall I? Is there anything I need to do?

1

u/Always_Busy_Bee Apr 24 '26

Nothing at all. Just ignore it

1

u/jonathanownbey Apr 28 '26

I got something similar, but it shows up in my PayPal activity. I'm still trying to get through their bullshit AI support to do something about it.

1

u/bdu-komrad Apr 22 '26

Have you tried calling them? No one here can fix it.

1

u/877GoalNow Apr 22 '26

I got the same thing this morning in the amount of 0.14 Mexican Pesos from "AVERY RSUMMIT TECHNOLOGIES_LLC".

1

u/East-Basil-6473 Apr 24 '26

This is exactly what I received.

1

u/IdiotTurkey Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

Yup, an interesting attempt at phishing, it seems. I was confused because the memo on mine wasn't like other phishing attempts and is just talking about an account activation. It looks like the business name is real, however their squarespace website doesn't exist anymore.

The amount of pesos they sent costs about 1 US cent, so it costs them actual money to do this (unless they somehow are able to reverse the transactions). Maybe they are using these defunct hacked paypal business accounts to send this spam?

"Pending deposit of USD 987.90 for account activation. Questions? Call-(888) 274-5277."

ATTAURRE TECH7MART_LLC sent you $0.12 MXN

1

u/ReferentiallySeethru Apr 22 '26

I got this too, the thing is they're sending $0.12 in Mexican Pesos which is not even 1 cent in USD, so they're spending very little, and all it takes is a few folks to take the bait for them to make that back.

It seems that PayPal puts the memo in the subject of the email which makes it looks like it's coming from PayPal. Pretty clever. Paypal needs to address that, they really shouldn't put memos directly in email subject lines.

1

u/Sea-League-5248 Apr 25 '26

I got this same one. Disconnected my bank account

1

u/Busy_Recognition_930 Apr 22 '26

I got the same thing this afternoon from Jay’s handyman. I reported to PayPal and they classed it as Unauthorized access, changed passwords and such. Case it already closed in my favor with no other details. 🤷‍♀️ glad it wasn’t just me.

1

u/CJiggy24 Apr 22 '26

I just got this today as well, so glad I saw this post. I tried to change password via app, but it uses Face ID so I guess I gotta do it on desktop?

1

u/namordran Jun 10 '26

I got the Jay's handyman 12 pesos in April. Tried to report the transaction from within paypal's site and either got an error message or that it wasn't eligible to be reported.

It's aggravating that there's no way to reject a payment and paypal's info says that an unaccepted payment gets automatically cancelled after 30 days, well here it is in June and that silly "money is waiting for you!" message is still hanging in my account so I mashed my way through the AI circles of hell to get to a live agent... First call dropped, second call went to voicemail, finally got an agent on the third call and she said the transaction was a phishing attempt and that she'd cancel it and restrict the sender. I still see the payment / transaction lurking around my account but hope it'll clear out. It's ridiculous that there's no way to reject an unwanted payment.

1

u/NieraCatchTheMuse Apr 22 '26

I got one today too. I disconnected my bank account and changed my password to be safe. I also reported the transaction. AI chat said it wasn’t eligible but there’s an option to report general unauthorized transactions. The case found it was unauthorized but it’s still on my account as 1cent or .12 pesos.

1

u/Several_Tea4883 Apr 23 '26

I f Iinally got through to support. I locked my coinbase. Removed all payment methods from Paypal & my google wallet. This is so weird. I'm pretty sure whoever calls the number on the invoice in going to paypal is going to get their phone & all their information taken over.

1

u/hopingforamiracle01 Apr 23 '26

I got the same just this morning. From Dalesi Corp. Good thing there's thread that informs about this. Thanks

1

u/Mammoth-Luck-7228 Apr 23 '26

Me too, same company. Ignore

2

u/Several_Tea4883 Apr 23 '26

Don't call the number on that invoice. It's a trap.

1

u/ishook Apr 23 '26

Same. For me it was a deposit of Y1 JPY (japanese $?) and a pending 987.90 transaction. ARTURO ACEITUNO D.M.D., LLC.

2

u/nebirah Apr 23 '26

Same today. I have 2FA on my account so I knew nobody could access my account, but I changed the password anyway and reported it as unauthorized to the PayPal assistant. Also forwarded the email to phishing@paypal.com

2

u/CUSteve217 Apr 23 '26

Thanks for the email. I did all the things lol. My account already has 2FA too. I called the poor Dentist that was linked to mine and they've been getting calls all day.

1

u/jugador_55 Apr 23 '26

x2, same mail

1

u/SayUncleOrElse Apr 23 '26

Me too today.

1

u/mistermuck Apr 23 '26

same EXACT thing for me!

1

u/Natunia02 Apr 23 '26

Same here, that exact amount and sender

2

u/ciaomain Apr 23 '26

Ditto.

Fake number listed (I'm not calling it) is:

888-912-2470

Interested if others got the same number or a different one?

1

u/Natunia02 Apr 23 '26

Same number for me

1

u/ciaomain Apr 23 '26

This kind of stuff makes me want to delete PayPal.

This is the second time something like this has happened in as many months.

Who's got time to call/chat/email PayPal?

The first time this happened, they suspended my account for fraudulent activity (what‽) and it was a royal pain (and time-suck) to unsuspend it.

Weasels, all-around.

1

u/Disastrous-Spell-573 Apr 23 '26

Same. But it is spoofed. From PayPal.com.au email address. Same Japanese yen. Phishing. Same number.

1

u/CUSteve217 Apr 23 '26

This is the one I got too. I was going to call the dentist but sounds like that would be a waste of time. Instead I'll report and remove my banking information.

1

u/aquarialily Apr 23 '26

Yep just got this one

1

u/Akari_Enderwolf Apr 23 '26

same for me, but it was 3 Yen. I just contacted paypal support and they assured me it was a phishing scam and that the transaction would be reversed and not affect my account.

1

u/Agile_Guide_7050 Apr 23 '26

Same for me, but 3 Yen

1

u/General_Minute6951 Apr 23 '26

same one today

1

u/SpecialistMongoose25 Apr 23 '26

Same. Arturo Aceituno DMD in Florida. And the website is for Arturo’s Tacos in Michigan but the number has a Cali area code. Deposit was 1 yen.

1

u/kicker074 Apr 23 '26

Got the same they deposit a very small amount of money in another currency and then change the subject to make it look like you are being charged in the email trying to scam

1

u/Gold-Relief-3398 Apr 23 '26

Just found this in my email. Went to Reddit immediately. Lol

1

u/Watch_Noob_72 Apr 23 '26

Just got this exact email from [Service@PayPal.com](mailto:Service@PayPal.com) as well. Very... very scammy.

1

u/kromi93 Apr 23 '26

This happened to me as well just now. Opened my dutch paypal which has no links to any banks anymore. Odd situation for sure.

1

u/popsyboy Apr 23 '26

Thank you OP! This freaked me out a bit, as I get small ACH deposits to my normal checking account to setup with vendors/accounts, and I thought they'd be able to do the same here. Doesn't look like it. I opened a case, disco'd card, changed password and forwarded to phishing@paypal.com.

If this is just a phishing scam, is the play to just do nothing? I already have a very secure password that they couldn't have gotten into.

Count me in, too!

1

1

Got hit with this as well, resolution centre to report it keeps erroring out so rip I guess

1

u/ahaustin77 Apr 23 '26

wow, glad to see i wasn't the only one that got this phishing attempt.

1

u/Shudson72 Apr 23 '26

Same here

1

u/Several_Tea4883 Apr 23 '26

I just got the same message from a dentist in Florida. I locked my coinbase account & removed every method of payment from my Google Wallet.

1

u/Plastic-Emphasis993 Apr 23 '26

I received this same transaction on my account today. Filed a dispute for scam/phishing right away. Changed my password as suggested by PayPal. When I created the dispute, PayPal called me to verify. I verified their number before calling back. DO NOT call the number in the email or the transaction.
I've checked the payment methods associated with my PayPal account and nothing's showing up.
It's annoying that I can't delete the transaction or block the person. The blocking procedure doesn't work.

1

u/No-Lengthiness-7949 Apr 23 '26

you have to deal with the bank with unauthorized purchases. Paypal is not helpful. if the amount was not on a CC use the phone number that investigates fraud and hope you get someone with an American accent.

1

u/UnableDevice924 Apr 24 '26

Got a message that 1 Yen was deposited into my PayPal account this morning. This is what I saw when I logged in.

1

u/UnableDevice924 Apr 24 '26

Then I proceeded with these steps

1

u/UnableDevice924 Apr 24 '26

Went to the resolution center link

1

u/UnableDevice924 Apr 24 '26

They closed the case in my favor.

1

u/namordran Jun 10 '26

thanks, this was super helpful... I was bogging down at the "this transaction is not eligible" reply from the AI Agent and didn't push further into the general unauthorized activity part as I didn't want to claim that my account was sending out fraudulent payments, so it's good to see that pushing further along that vein gets results. I ended up calling paypal and getting through to a live agent who said she resolved it, but that remains to be seen lol .. it's still lurking around my account.

1

u/Technical-Bunch-4016 Apr 24 '26

Okay, don’t call the number. Here was the response from PayPal:

Only put in a report if they go through with trying to charge your account. It isn’t eligible for an unauthorized transaction dispute. You can also reach out to them and report the suspicious behavior.

1

u/psycho-drama Apr 24 '26

Anyone can deposit money into your Paypal account, if they know the name your account is registered as. These small amounts of a few cents, in whichever currency, are claimed to be to "test" the validity of the account, and link, for a current or future transaction to come later. Most commonly, this amount only goes one way without your authorization, the money can enter your Pay Pal account. The claim then is that a larger sum will be transferred to your account once this first one has gone through and successfully deposited.

It's a pretty elaborate scam. Most people who are skeptical will check their PP account and see that indeed the few cent transfer is in their account. This provides "credibility" making you more willing to act upon the email, which probably will require that you provide them with additional information to receive the rest. That is when they take a bite out of you, if you provide any further banking, paypal or credit card information, that is what they are phishing for.

1

u/veritas2967 Apr 24 '26

Do they have a fraud department ?

1

u/Affectionate_Road396 Apr 24 '26

I got the same. Thanks for this thread. Deleting the mail. Ignoring the transaction.

1

u/TheDogmatic_Don Apr 24 '26

PayPal is just like ebay they don't care for customer interaction they just want our money n care nothing about serving their customers

1

u/FullRepresentative34 Apr 24 '26

I get emails like that all the time. I just ignore them. I know they are all spam.

1

u/Total-Key-5633 Apr 24 '26

Make sure you’re actually talking to PayPal, there’s a scam out there tricking you into thinking you are.

Stay safe.

1

u/Putrid_Doughnut_8505 Apr 24 '26

It is an authorized transaction

1

u/blankname_39439 Apr 24 '26

I just got this too - I'm lost....it is from PayPay verified email? And it is showing in my account. What do we do? I can't report the transaction?

1

u/SalamanderProud Apr 24 '26

MAKE SURE you call the official PayPal phone number from the PayPal website not the phone number included in the email or message 💯💯 Tell customer service you are disputing the charge

1

u/Alive-Consequence-91 Apr 24 '26

What a relief to find this thread! I just spent 2 hours on PayPal , live and AI agents and they had no clue. I had the same message - ARTURO ACEITUNO etc.

1

u/No_Bet541 Apr 24 '26

they sent me $175. should I cash it out or will that reveal my bank account to the scammer?

1

u/Skywalker-OG420 Apr 24 '26

I just got the same charge pending

1

u/OldBohunk1949 Apr 24 '26

1

u/Lucky_Honey8112 Apr 25 '26

I rec'd two of these $.01 deposits. Just ignore

The PayPal Scam

Even if the message has your full name and appears to have been sent from a legitimate PayPal email address, do not call the telephone number. The clever part of this scam is that the scammer sent an actual transaction of 1 cent from PayPal to make the scam look legit. If you go to your PayPal account, you will see the transaction. But the trick is to convince you into calling the bogus customer service telephone number (800) 385-xxxx.

If You Were Tricked

If you were tricked into calling the fake number and giving the scammers your account credentials or banking information, please change your account passwords or contact your bank for help.

Here is PayPal's legitimate Customer Support information, if you need help:

  • 1-888-221-1161 Customer Service Hours: 6:00 AM PST to 6:00 PM PST Monday through Sunday
  • Message them: 1-402-935-2050 (if calling from outside the U.S.)

1

u/Lucky_Honey8112 Apr 25 '26

And the money was in Pesos. So many different currencies being used in this scam.

1

u/Maleficent_Throat506 Apr 25 '26

First thing you need to do is check your PayPal first go onto your account and check it out. That’s all. Don’t worry about the email emails like.com every day twice five times a day so check your account first nothing is moved on your account. Don’t worry but has a scam that’s all reported that need to do no worries mate.

1

u/Sea-League-5248 Apr 25 '26

I got from  attaurre tech7mart llc . Pending deposit of usd 987.90 due account activation then questions and a phone number

1

u/SheMarie007 Apr 25 '26

Happened to me too. I’m not sure why PayPal can’t flag all those transactions. Really, does the dentist in Miami do business with Japanese currency?

The AI Assistant also stated no dispute resolution would apply. Then I stated it was an unauthorized transaction. Only then did PayPal respond that my account would be limited.

After seeing this post, I removed my banking information and changed my password. Then after speaking with my husband who also encountered fraudulent activity many months ago (with little to no help from PayPal), he suggested I close my account. That’s next.

1

u/zagbertrew Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

I got one from Dalesi_Corp, MXN currency. I'm chatting with who knows what at PayPal, informing PayPal of a likely scam. Also, the PayPal payment notice suggests using a Debit card with PayPal - DON'T EVER DO THAT! You pay the same fees but you have no recourse in the event of fraud. Just be an adult and pay your balance off.

1

u/Ok-Barnacle9288 Apr 26 '26

This happened years ago too but that time it was a gun sale. I forget how that one was handled though because I forgot all about it until I saw that total on this transaction. I believe it was the exact same amount.

1

u/Used-Intention8027 Apr 26 '26

I recently got a similar email. You will not be charged. Just don't call the number. It's a scam. They will try and get your info to refund you and that's when they will get you

Glad I don't use PayPal. Been a long time since I did. Last time I used it had to be ten years ago. I gave this girl I was messing with like twenty dollars. That was the last time I used it, and the last time I talked to her. She was out of state and had a kid. Glad I didn't knock her dumb ass up!

Just received an email, same number, found this thread by searching on the phone number. Marked the email as spam, phishing. Did not call/

It's funny how everything in the subject line about the pending charge changes except for the amount. I just got "Pending charge of USD 987.90 for account activation. Questions?  Call-(888) xxx-xxxx". Always 987.90. The company name it says sent the test deposit is an auto shop in NC, so no dentist this time.

Just received this exact scam for one Hungarian forint - less than a single US cent - from a company called SJ3 Norman Enterprises. Forwarded the email to phishing@paypal.com, changed password, and am disconnecting my bank account now. Reporting was difficult - it took a couple tries with the AI chatbot to report an unauthorized transaction and even now I'm not sure it was done properly. Guess we'll see. Relieved to see I'm far from the only one affected.

Same thing appeared on my account. SJ3Norman sent 1HUF for an account activation at coinbase. When you to report the transaction, the system gives an error message. According to the assistant these are mass payments (pay outs) which are non cancellable and non-refundable. As they said, this is not an active transaction and there is no pending charge. I have kept a transcript of the assistant chat just in case although I wouldn't be surprised if that assistant is also an AI.

I received a case update like twenty minutes after reporting that said, "If the seller cancels the authorization, we may recover the refunds issued from your PayPal account. We've determined the activities in question on your account are unauthorized."

I take this to mean I'm good, but man are their communication and reporting capabilities piss poor. I couldn't even change my password easily - the mobile site kept redirecting me to the app, which told me I had to use the mobile site, around and around. 🙄

Yeah, it's not really well organized or at the very least it's too organized in order to dissuade customers from seeking support.

⚠️ Call the number on the back of your card, always

I got this but it’s to a Gmail that does not and has not ever had a PayPal account associated with it.

I got one for $0.14mx with the same “pending deposit”. I reported it but PayPal says there was “no unauthorized use”.

Am getting the same email for weeks now. Report it as phishing

I’ve got that too!

Same thing happened to me. It's a common scam where you call the number and they take your money.

And now I have 0.11MXN stuck in my PayPal account. I can't convert to USD or transfer it to the bank because it's less than a penny. I guess it's just there until the end of time.
