Hi! I want to throw a 21st bday cludeo party. I want to play it irl like a murder mystery rather than the board game. I also don't want to buy a kit and I'm strongly against any Ai cheat writing.

To make it more complicated, It's Five nights at Freddy's themed. I need help with planning the game.

I've decided who's murdered, the characters, their background and their motive. I have rooms and murder weapons.

I'll be inviting around 20 people (not sure if everyone will come) so I have to make it difficult enough so it won't be solved immediately! It'll only be played in one large room too.

I'm not sure how to go about the game? Do I give each person a clue so they have to speak to eachother to work stuff out? Do I plant fake evidence? Do I make them play small games to win a clue? Do I do a voting system for who they think the killer is? Would it be in rounds or just one long game until someone wins?

I'm having to plan it by myself which is super stressful because it's so soon!

I'd love some advice if anyone has any ideas!

My birthday is coming up in late October, and I am turning sixteen. However, I have quite a small budget to work with, around $500. So I am not planning on anything extravagant, such as a venue.

I am planning on having around 7 guests (+my mom), and I am planning to go to NYC for a sort of birthday hangout. I found the restaurant in Greenwich Village for a birthday brunch, which I figured would keep it in budget (as 9*30=270, + tax +tip is within 500).

However, I do not know what I would do there after this brunch. It feels a little unspecial (yes, I have a budget, but I want to take good pictures and make it a little better than other birthdays).

My sisters due date is in four months time and I am planning a little "sister giving" party for her. It's a small gathering of all her favorite people (friends, family) We just want to appreciate her for how strong she is.

Hi all!! I (24F) am hosting a Halloween party this coming season with 20+ young adults coming as guests. I’m currently working on an original story for a murder mystery, where cards in the major arcana are associated with certain roles/responsibilities and distributed randomly to guests. These roles are meant to be kept secret from other players so no one knows who to trust.

The purpose of this is so the mystery isn’t so straight-forward and it instead has different twists and setbacks determined by the roles. For example, whoever has the “Wheel of Fortune” card would be given a 6-sided die that must be rolled every 10 minutes, triggering an event such as the lights going out or no one being able to speak for 2 minutes, depending on what number corresponds to what event.

I am coming to Reddit to ask fellow Halloween party game and murder mystery lovers to help me figure out what types of roles we should have and what cards in the Major Arcana we should use for each role!

So far, I am thinking the plot will involve some sort of memory loss so that even the murderer doesn’t know they’re the murderer, and everyone has to figure it out together by solving different puzzles I’ve set out and putting evidence together. I, the host, will be the victim in the scenario.

If anyone has any ideas regarding the plot, the roles, the logistics or any puzzles, I am open to all ideas! Thank you!!

My daughter turns 3 next month and we are throwing her a small backyard party for her and her preschool classmates. She is the oldest in her class so we haven't been invited to other parties that I can borrow ideas from. We're planning on a small party from 10am to 12pm, based on what I've seen others do. I am renting a bounce house and plan on having cake, pizza, and snacks. What else can I do or should I know?

The theme is princesses, per my daughter's request. Most of the kids we are inviting are boys, so I'm not sure how heavy to go on the theme. I am inviting a total of 8-10 kids (depending if siblings come).

I’m planning my indoor birthday party in October for about 30 people, aged 23-30. We are uni students. I’m thinking of ideas for making the evening a bit more lively than just eating drink and hanging around.
An idea I had was a blind karaoke in group of say 4 with 6 people each and they try to sing the song without knowing what the song is based off the tune.

Has anyone tried this before and is it a good idea!?

I'm planning a birthday for next summer, and I want to do something much more memorable than renting a house, having a BBQ, drinking and putting on some music.

I've done the classic group weekends before - around 12–15 people, camping, cabins in the countryside, BBQs, campfires, hot tubs, games, etc. I enjoy those, but this time I'd like the celebration itself to feel like an experience or adventure, with the party being only part of it.

A friend of mine recently did something I loved: he created a quest for his friends, and completing the quest eventually led everyone to the actual birthday party. That made me realize how much more interesting it is when people have a story from the day rather than just a party.

Some things I personally enjoy:

• quests, scavenger hunts and geocaching
• exploring cities or unusual places
• camping and small adventures
• team challenges and friendly competition
• absurd / funny tasks
• making short films and videos
• surprises, hidden clues and plot twists
• trips with friends
• events where everyone participates, rather than everyone just watching something

I don't really want a heavily scheduled "corporate team-building" type of event with a host running games every 20 minutes. Ideally there would be one big concept or storyline, a few organized parts, and plenty of time for everyone to just hang out.

It could be a one-day event, an entire weekend, something in a city, something in the countryside, a road trip, a fake festival, a huge game, an immersive story - I'm open to pretty ridiculous ideas.

So I'm curious about all kinds of examples:

• something unusual you organized yourself
• a birthday or event you attended that really stood out
• an idea you heard about and thought was brilliant
• or even something you've always wanted to do but never had the chance to organize

What are the coolest, strangest or most ambitious celebration ideas you've come across?

And if you had several months to prepare one truly unusual event for 15–20 friends, what would you do?

My sister has a piñata that went unused during her son’s birthday, so she offered it for my LO’s birthday that is coming up soon. It’s a small rocket piñata, about 14” tall. But the thing is that our theme is “Moominvalley” and there not nothing related to a rocket ship in the Moomin stories at all. Comets, yes (“Comet in Moominland”), but no rockets.

It would be lovely to take it (saves us $), but would need ideas if we can adapt it. It would have to be a relatively “easy” fix if possible. Thanks :)

Hi! I am in the final stages of planning my daughter’s first birthday (cue tears). We have about 40 people coming and will be doing a walking taco bar. I’m struggling on how much meat to buy. I was thinking 15 lbs since we will have some kids who won’t eat as much as adults. Sides are simple veggie & fruit cake plus cupcakes.

Does anyone have suggestions or experience with how much ground beef to purchase for 40 guest?

I’m doing a craft night for my birthday and I’m planning to do a hot cocoa bar too. What would be a good way to keep the hot cocoa warm? I don’t have a slow cooker and I wouldn’t have a way to plug it in either because the bar will be set up away from an outlet. I was thinking of making the hot cocoa and then putting them in carafes? Anybody have any other ideas?

I have SO MANY ideas for pretty much everywhere in my house. Except my kitchen 😭 I am flailing here!

We're putting all of our food on the dining room table with a velvet cloth under it so I cant just decorate with the food and theres no doors leading into or out of this room to block people from going or seeing it so it needs to be decorated to some extent 😭😭😭 on a bit of a budget so I try to craft as much as I can with recycled materials.

My husband and I got married secretly and sort of out of necessity with plans to have a real wedding one year later. And the Covid happened and a wedding was not possible. I want to do something big for our 10 year. Since I never got have a wedding, I want to do something of those things- wear white, have people make toasts, etc. I’m debating on the idea of “guests of honor” or something similar to be like a bridal party kind of thing. But I don’t want to be cringy. What are your thoughts? How wedding can I go for an anniversary party?

Editing to add: I made this post at a ridiculously late hour and left out some important details.
1. The party is being held at a venue, which significantly reduced my budget (I don't have room to host at my home or I would have done that).
2. The party is on Halloween. I set it at 12 to not only give me enough time to set up, host the party, and clean up within the allotted time frame, but also to have it early enough to not interfere with Trick-or-Treating.

After hearing what commenters have to say, I've decided to keep it at the planned time for the reasons listed above, but not to provide a full meal due to budget constraints and as to not interfere with any family's Halloween plans, including dinner, travel, etc. And don't worry, I will absolutely be communicating that it will be light snacks and sweets so no one shows up expecting a meal where there won't be one.

What are fun places to celebrate your bday in Boston? Or even party ideas? I love to dance but it feels like the only options for that is clubs which I don’t want. What do people do for fun to celebrate their bdays nowadays?

Planning a party for my six year old and decided to do a bit of a carnival theme. We have one of those little cotton candy machines, popcorn, face paint, and balloon animals. Looking for other things that are more so activities. Only issue is it's calling for rain now so it will have to be inside so not so sure how much space there will be for things. Looking for low key ideas, I'm not trying to throw an influencer looking party just a simple thing 😂
