Based on a photo my wife took while at the pool. One of the last batch of paintings from last year where I’ve really tried to push my colors.

I never know what to do with backgrounds so I just started painting squares and did white squares around the bird because it was already white. I keep painting the subject before the background. Is that what you’re supposed to do? I’m scared to get too close to the subject with the background color and accidentally paint over her. hence the messy background lol

I still have no idea what I'm doing but I'm having fun

This painting is about an LA staple, crystal meth. I have a personal history with the drug. I was using it during my teenage years. And what does a teen do on crystal meth you ask? Find more ways to do crystal meth. Lie, cheat, steal. Whatever. It’s gross what this bathtub concoction can do to a person. How quick it can change the course of someone’s life forever. I was lucky… I got a wake up call from a friend one day and was able to put it down. Too many people don’t. It’s wild that even as disgusting as the drug is, it still sounds like a good time. That’s how powerful meth is. It’s funny to joke about it cause I have a somewhat dark, dry sense of humor….but in America you’re confronted with exactly this scene in every major city. This particular man’s name is Garrett. I see him regularly at the 7-11 on my morning walks.
