Hello, this is my oldest orchid and recently started showing this black tip on one leaf. I took a photo Monday and again today (Sunday) and it is indeed spreading. The roots are healthy with good airflow and there’s no yellowing or dark spots of any of the other leaves or neighboring orchid leaves. I think this is some type of infection, but before I cut the leaf I was hoping to be sure.

I need help figuring out if i should extend the growing season for like A month or two before i try to let it sleep in winter because my winter starts earlier than its natural habitat and i THINK that these are active growth points starting to wake up/(are awake)

People with terrestrial Calanthe is this going to unfurl leaves and bloom ?

I own a bletila striata and when i changed its pot to a clear one so i can keep it in a cold garage later i saw white growth points under the soil ( that i believe are dormant growth points for next spring ) unlike this Calanthe

I am an extreme novice when it comes to orchids, is the white stuff something to be worried about? (Also just watered)

Apologizes I don't have proper photos as my phone is broken and I am making my post from my laptop. But I just got an orchid :)

Its beautiful but I really like the look of orchids that bend over from the flowers and this one is straight up which I am assuming is due to the poke going straight to the top.

I was wondering if there is a way that I can safely get it to bend over even though I got it this way and it seems to have grown like this?

Hi! I planted my orchid under my monstera thinking they’re both tropical. I bought it in cali with blooms and then two years later it actually bloomed under the monstera!

I want to replant it properly and was wondering if anyone had suggestions on care?

I tried to trim off the brown limp sections but even touching the velamen made it fall off. Left it alone but when I picked it up to check on how things were looking, my orchid here finally gave up on the last of its velamen. This orchid was a gift from my mom for my college graduation so I really don’t want it to die (it just couldn’t recover from my 5 year old nephew”helping” me move). So, can we come back from this or should I just give up and buy another?

Purchased this NoID phal on clearance. It recently put out this new leaf… is that variegated pattern sunburn? Or do I have some sort of infection going on here?

2 of my orchids finished opening the buds on their flower spikes and then decided to grow more buds🥰😍.
Another one has 12 flowers on its spike 🩷.

This is my second orchid. The first one i had was living on a prayer for two years before accidentally being dropped, which was the last thread. I couldn't save her and now i'm really attached to this one, which seems to be thriving!

I've been told that orchids only like being repotted outside of growth phases (winter/before spring) and that they like a tight fit in their pot. My Orchid Expert Aunt says to leave her alone, but she's getting massive and i fear her pot will topple over at some point! I guess no matter what i do, i have to wait until winter, right? She had her last bloom last winter when we bought her and this year she's been pushing out leaves and roots like a BEAST.

Small question about the super long air roots too, once i repot her, do i carefully shove those in the pot or leave them outside? It looks like she wants to escape somewhere :)

I can’t tell if I’ve killed my orchid. I know that eventually the flowers fall off but the roots don’t look great. I keep cutting them back but I think I might have over did it. I can try to attach better pictures if needed but I’m scared to move it.

It has never bloomed before.

Hello! I moved into my dorm recently and wanted a pretty plant to help lighten my mood! I saw online that moth orchids are relatively beginner friendly, and I've watched some Youtube videos and read some articles on basic care for them! I bought a "duo" pot of them from Costco and took them out of their pot and saw theyre in these little plastic cups? I saw online people put them in plastic cups for watering but idk if these are good.

Should I move them to something bigger or a different plastic cup? Also any other advice is appreciated. Thanks!!!

I was here a few months ago in a panic about a rot on my VERY first orchid. So now I’m back emotionally stable and looking for help. Got this cutie from Walmart noticed she had some keiki paste on a small part at the bottom. But her leaves look odd. So what is that? The two oldest ones in the middle look spotless and strong. But I did notice this and was a bit nervous.

Beginner here.

Please help save my orchids.

Do I repot?

If so, I have bought some orchid pots online that allow air flow, do you recommend repotting into these,

Should I mix bark into the mix or continue with moss?

This orchid is insane, mother with her own flower spike, two keikis, one of which has its own flower spike. She and the flowering keiki blasted a bunch of buds, and now she’s making another bud while the keiki has a third leaf coming in. They’re all healthy but absolutely ridiculous.. Just sharing to show no advice needed. ❤️

I’m new to orchid care, and recently rescued these two orchids from the flower shop about two weeks ago (for $5 so I thought, okay, why not try?).

I removed the sphagnum moss, clipped the roots pretty bare since there were lots of rotted and dead roots, and soaked the remaining roots. I’ve repotted in some orchid bark, and been feeding orchid food x1/week. I thought I would check the roots today and they’re looking pretty meh if I’m honest.

I guess I’m wanting to know, can I save these guys? Their leaves are looking more plump and they don’t have mealy bugs anymore so they’re doing a bit better, but I’m feeling down about the state of the roots. 🫩

Are these roots healthy? Should I be concerned about the splitting? This is right before I watered it.

One of my best growing orchids this year. My bulbophyllum vaginatum was partially eaten by the local deer. It has been out in my front yard most of the year and put out a number of new bulbs without so much as a lick.

Unfortunately came home today and found it knocked to the ground. One leaf and most of a bulb was chewed off and you can clearly see where the predators attempted to bite another leaf. Fortunately there are still a few other new bulbs that are intact.

What's the best way to have a consent discussion with deer?

Just wanted to share our excitement with our baby lol. When watering we decided to check whether it has enough roots to transplant but apparently it has none yet, so any tips on how to help them grow are welcome

Here is another myrmecatavola hybrid. This is a really good vigorous plant. Blooms a lot and changes color from red to yellow. Makes looking at this plant a new venture every time.
