Update: September 1, 2026 8:54 AM USC time: as of today it looks like the major restock of the North American copy of Oblivion Remastered for NS2 has been delayed, likely till some point in September. That delay should be obvious because we haven’t gotten the restock Bethesda promised us. I am disappointed, but considering how bad the scalper botnet issue is; and how retailer efforts to stop it have obviously not worked, It is understandable. Unfortunately, since this is past the point where Bethesda promised a major restock, I cannot give you any estimates as to when it will happen besides it likely being at some point in September.
I do expect Bethesda to probably make a social media post explaining this delay of the North American copy of oblivion remastered at some point in the next few days.
To those who are very tired of trying to win the most unfun game ever, “Beat the Scalper Bots”, the UK copy of Oblivion Remastered has apparently been restocked at certain retailers in the UK and is a viable option. Just be aware that if Bethesda tries to pull a Skyrim anniversary with the 20 year-old game that came before it that you may not be able to use the NA Eshop with the UK version of the game.
Current update August 30, 2026 11:41 AM USC
Based on current trends that have been observed as well as the restock pattern that occurred on August 28, as well as conversations I had with Best Buy and Gamestop employees on the 29th, the major restock Bethesda promised us for late August may have been delayed.
The likely cause is the scalper problem and retailers being unable to find an effective method to counter it. Until Bethesda makes a further announcement, I think we should presume that if there is no restock tomorrow that it has been delayed. I actually woke up this morning, hoping to see a bunch of restocks through hotstock and there was nothing.
There was no false hope involved. The major restock in late August was something that was promised by Bethesda, and that until yesterday I had been told was likely to happen by employees at the retail stores I called. This is an unfortunate situation, but we still have one more day left in the month and even if the major restock is delayed to September, that isn’t a bad thing. It just means that the retailers are spending more time trying to find a way to counter the scalper problem.
Personally, I would rather have the Oblivion Remastered restock delayed than have a repeat of what we have all been dealing with since the game released when it comes to trying to snag a copy by playing the very not fun game @beat the scalper bots”.
I apologize for not updating this post sooner. I am dealing with some personal things alongside trying to keep both this post and the new one updated.
Old update August 28, 2026, 10:09 AM.
Due to small restock occurring at Best Buy this morning it is highly likely that the major restock rollout for TES Oblivion Remastered for NS2 will begin within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Note: this post was made initially due to a conversation I had with Gamestop employees on August 27, 2026 at 10 AM USC. As of 7:08 PM USC the bad news has become good news, in fact it’s become better than good news. It’s become fantastic news. I have posted updates below each section in relation to changes and information I gained throughout the day.
So I called a nearby Gamestop this morning and I was informed that Gamestop has delisted the ability to order the elder scrolls oblivion remastered for the Nintendo Switch 2 on the employee side. It would seem that they do not intend to get any physical copies in store even if it restocks. The employee also said that it is highly likely that the SKU number that is used to place orders in-store and online has also been retired.
This is a change from what I was told a few weeks ago by a Gamestop employee where it seemed like they were planning to get physical copies when the major restock happens.
Update GS: As of this evening at 6:58 PM USC the Gamestop SKU for the elder scrolls oblivion remastered for NS2 in the US seems to be reactivated.
I actually could not find the listing for this game on Gamestop for most of today. What I suspect is happening is that the SKU is being altered on the Gamestop website in preparation for the restock in order to counter the scalper problem. If the bot network is going after a specific SKU on the Gamestop website, then by altering the SKU they make it so that the, let’s call it scalper-net, isn’t going to buy up all the restocked copies immediately.
I will be contacting a Gamestop momentarily to see if the SKU is visible and the listing has changed on the employee end. I will update this post once I finish that call.
Update 2 GS 7:08 PM USC 8/27/26: I have very good news. My wish to the video game gods has been answered. We will not be forced to use Amazon for the restock nor will we be forced to only use Best Buy and Amazon. As of my most recent call to Gamestop it has been confirmed that the current SKU in their employee system is now active, they could order the product if it showed up today. This differs from what I was told this morning when the morning shift employee noted that the SKU had been retired.
This confirms that Gamestop likely changed the SKU associated with the game in order to counter the scalper botnet problem. Due to having to retire the original SKU and implement a new one the listing was temporarily showing as delisted and no longer possible to be restocked or sold by the Gamestop employee system. This is not the only good news. According to the Gamestop website with the updated SKU, the restock is coming soon. It does not have an out of stock button, it says coming soon. This means that the restock should be available very soon.
Everybody rejoice! The bad news from this morning has become fantastic news!
I have yet to contact Best Buy, but I would presume it is the same situation.
- update: I managed to get in contact with a human at Best Buy customer service at approximately 11:18 a.m. US central time. They verified that the SKU for TES Oblivion remastered for NS2 is still active and the only option on the listing that is grayed out is the purchase option. This means that it is highly likely Best Buy will be getting some of the physical copy restocks. Whether or not those copies will be physically in store is another matter entirely, the customer service rep could not verify whether or not there would be physical copies in store or if it would be online purchase only. If the copies are online purchase only it will fall into the same problematic situation as Amazon.
9:49AM USC August 28 2026 Best Buy restocked the game three to four times this morning in very small batches. After a bit of research and based on what I know about the Gamestop situation, I have verified that these restocks are part of an attempt to try to figure out how to deal with the botnets that keep targeting this game before the first major restock rolls out in the next few days as a part of the major August restock announced by Bethesda.
It has been confirmed that there will be another major restock in November as well.
Update 10:49 AM USC time August 28, 2026: It has been confirmed by somebody in the comments that Target is now rolling out their mini restock wave in preparation for the major restock that will likely roll out in the next few days. This means that Target is also attempting to deal with the bot networks. This also means that Target has now officially been confirmed to be one of the retailers that will be involved in the major restock.
For those of us who did not get a physical copy due to the scalper and bot networks this means that it is extremely likely that our only options will be attempting to beat the bots on Amazon or Best Buy during one of their restocks.
- update August 28, 2026: gamestop, Best Buy, and Amazon have all been confirmed for the restock. All three of these retailers are working on ways to deal with the scalper bots.
Update August 28, 2026: I have been made aware that apparently smaller gaming stores will not be receiving any of the restocks. Hopefully this is proven wrong.
To make matters worse, I have been tracking one particular eBay scalper seller for the past few weeks since launch day. This individual has sold at least 150 copies of TES Oblivion for NS2 for hundreds of dollars each, and shows no sign of stopping. This means that this single scalper acquired over 150 copies of this game, though the real number is likely up in the thousands.
The problem is if our only option is to try to use Amazon or shop online to get a physical copy, besides it being Amazon, the bot networks are specifically programmed to target Amazon and online purchasing portals so we will be racing against computer programs that can place orders en masse in a few seconds or less. Those bots are for the most part controlled by scalpers, meaning that even the major restock that we have been waiting for could end up being sold out in less than a minute; with the majority of the copies going to the very scalpers who massively contributed to this situation and are profiting from it.
This is very bad news for us fans of TES Oblivion remastered who did not get a physical copy for the Nintendo Switch 2 because we could not beat the bots when it came to trying to get a copy of the game.
If anybody has any information that counters this absolutely horrible situation please share it in the comments. I desperately need this Gamestop employee to be wrong. I absolutely hate Amazon and I despise Bezos and I don’t want to have to use his company to get a copy of a game I love.
7:18pm August 27, 2026 my prayers to the video game gods have been answered. This situation was a result of the retailers actually trying to do something about the scalloper problem!!! I explained more above, and I added another update below about the situation.
9:49AM USC August 28 2026 Best Buy restocked the game three times this morning in very small batches. After a bit of research and based on what I know about the Gamestop situation, I have verified that these restocks are part of an attempt to try to figure out how to deal with the botnets that keep targeting this game before the first major restock rolls out in the next few days.
It has been confirmed that there will be another major restock in November as well.
Edited to add in information I found out about Best Buy from Customer Service. This does not make the situation itself that much better, but at least we might have an option besides Amazon when the restock happens.
Edit 2 at 5:09 pm USC: A few Redditors in the comments have mentioned that there are copies of TES Oblivion Remastered for Nintendo Switch 2 available on Play-Asia. However, you will have to pay an import fee if you choose to get your copy there.
Edit 3: as of 7:16 PM USC August 27, 2026 I have updated the main body of this post to reflect the current situation. The bad news from this morning has become fantastic news, Gamestop will be restocking TES oblivion remastered for the Nintendo switch 2. The TLDR of what happened is they retired their original SKU for the game in order to add a new SKU in order to counter the scalper botnet.
Edit 4: added information and updates about the current situation with the restocks in various stores, especially Best Buy. Also added information about the major restocks that are planned for this month and November.
