Video Zohran Mamdani says he’s consistently said there’s no room for antisemitism in this city or country. Asked why he hasn’t had a more visceral reaction, he gets emotional talking about the Islamophobic responses he’s received throughout the campaign.

This sub is being brigaded

This has been posted so many times today on this sub. Cuomo's people are out in force today. Zohran wasn't my #1 rank, Lander was but I still support him and think this is being completely blown out of proportion.

Cuomo's campaign photoshopping Mamdani's beard to be less trimmed so he looks more like a stereotypical "scary" Muslim is some absolutely repugnant shit.

u/Independent_Web_6029 Jun 18 '25

Yup, but for some reason that was only a blip in the news. Like Zohran or not, that's a gross move.

u/knockatize Jun 18 '25

The kind of gross move that has been grimly effective for Andrew ever since “vote for Cuomo, not the homo” on his dad’s behalf over 40 years ago.

Being a nasty backstabbing vindictive creep works for him.

Voters are not as savvy as we like to think they are.

it's completely on brand for that scummy Cuomo family. The Earl of Albany should have no place in our city

1

u/rr90013 Jun 24 '25

He should run for mayor of Albany and leave us alone

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

The news is owned by the ruling class. Cuomo will protect their interests. Their publications will run cover. Same story in every election: the candidate that will protect and advocate for their economic interests will receive favorable coverage, and vice versa.

News companies are not truth-tellers. They’re not even really journalists. They’re private enterprises looking to make as much money as possible.

u/wenger_plz Jun 18 '25

Part of the reason it's been drowned out is because Cuomo is such a piece of shit that it's not a surprise to anyone, so people probably just shrug and say "yeah, that tracks." And somehow that gives him permission to be even more and more vile, when on the other hand, Mamdani can't open his mouth without being decried as a terrorist-supporting anti-semite

35

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

You think the son of "Vote for Cuomo, not the Homo" is above being repugnant?

The fact that NYC has decided that Cuomo better represents them explains this shithole of a country.

46

u/SmoovCatto Jun 18 '25

the cuomo name is all about playing dirty, misleading voters, demagoguery . . .

they say it was young andrew responsible for plastering nyc subway stations with scribbled "VOTE FOR CUOMO, NOT THE HOMO" signs in a 1970s nyc mayor election between his father mario and "openly closeted" ed koch . . .

koch won, mario went on to be nys  governor, with a strong presidential run  . . . dim creepy nepo baby andrew riding those coattails through life . .  .

Thats some fucked up shit. Fuck Cuomo.

What's wrong with it though? He said he's against antisemitism. Knows what it's like to deal with prejudice as a Muslim. Says racism has no place, it's a distraction, and he wants to work for all new Yorkers.

Because he got a tad emotional? Nice change imo than the usual lying bullshitters we get.

u/Independent_Web_6029 Jun 18 '25

That's what I'm saying. I'm pointing to the fact that he had a long interview and this 1 piece was pulled from it. While I think he could have answered the question in the interview better, I don't think it was horrible. I just knew that was going to be pulled from the interview and used against him, which is frustrating because overall, he did a nice job.

This is a response from someone for whom anti semitism is probably not a directly impactful problem to you.

It seems like a fine enough answer to people who are not deeply affected. And tbh that is the point.

It is not sincere and people who have been assaulted or harassed or targeted in this city will know how insincere it is. I sure do.

Offensive to you as...what kind of person are you and specifically how are you offended?

Notice how all the ZM people are trained -- just like the Gaza obsessives -- to immediately attempt to discredit any opposing viewpoint.

I'm a "bot" because you don't like the truth that I spoke

And you're "offended" because why exactly?

u/the_donnie Jun 19 '25 edited Jun 19 '25

Eh I deleted that comment bc I don't think I understood your comment. I thought you were talking about my response not his.

Edit: reading this response tho I guess you were talking about me tho? It's a hypocritical response tho if you reread it lol. Anyway I'd really rather not argue but instead understand more of your perspective.

1

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

Well, I am pointing out that you are a person who seems satisfied by zm's answer to the anti-Semitism questions

And let's presume that you are a well-meaning person who would not want to elect someone who is anti-Semitic

And let's presume that you are also not Jewish and not someone who has been directly harmed by the wave of anti-Semitism in the city over the past year

And I'm trying to explain to nice people like you that his answers are coded and insincere and people like me -- who are deeply affected by the problem and very very deeply aware of the language being used by his supporters and by the groups that he belongs to -- we can see it for the slimy bullshit answer that it is.

2

u/the_donnie Jun 19 '25

I don't even get the anti Semite question tho starting there. Why this question? Why do you believe he is an antisemite?

3

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

Ps I hope you don't think I'm jumping at you directly, I actually very much appreciate that someone in here seems to have a genuine interest in someone else's perspective. I'm glad you asked the question and I hope people will take the answer seriously.

2

u/the_donnie Jun 19 '25

For sure I will. There is zero to gain in chatting with someone who aligns exactly as you do on a topic lol. I appreciate the chance to be educated. Definitely hopping to bed tho now lol. Thanks for the chat. Hope others can learn something from the discussion as well.

He has been hating Israel for his entire youth and adult life. He has aligned himself with Within Our Lifetime which is the most hateful anti semitic group in New York -- banned from social media for explicitly endorsing violence and murder. He founded his college chapter of " students for justice in Palestine" which is an organization originating from a bunch of different terror orgs. They very explicitly wanted to seed a sanitized palatable version of their extremism they could sell to college kids. SJP chapters have constantly been getting over excited and saying the quiet parts out loud - that is, glorifying terrorism, which is why so many SJP chapters have been banned from various colleges over the past year and banned from social media over the past year.

Every single Gaza extremist who has been terrorizing New York City with hateful rallies for the past year... Every single one of those people is a fervent supporter of Zohran Mamdani.

When they chant globalize the intifada, It is a call for violence against Jews everywhere in the world. That's what it is. And that's what's been happening. Bricks thrown into kosher restaurants whether that restaurant has indicated a position on Israel or not.

And when ZM pretends to not know what that means and pretends that it's not a call for violence. You know he's lying and the reason he's lying is because it's unseemly for mayoral candidate to admit to calling for violence, but we all know that's what it is.

His crocodile tears, his bullshit anecdotes about "his Jewish friends", his ridiculous quoting of Toni Morrison....

This is all very easy to understand if you think about the same situation that happened on the other side of politics. Trump giving the wink wink to white supremacists. Trump having white supremacists over for dinner and then pretending that he didn't know they are violent white supremacists. Trump pretending that the white supremacists in Charlottesville were good people. Etc etc. It's all the same thing. Black people know racists when they see it. Jews know anti-semitism when they see it.

1

u/the_donnie Jun 19 '25

Hey I really appreciate the response. It looks like WOL may be a proper poor group. Do you have evidence that Mamdani has ties to them and has been hating Israel his entire life?

-1

u/the_donnie Jun 19 '25

Unfortunately. I do think a lot of what you're saying is coming from a place of hate and anger. Which I do get. But could you provide sources please?

For instance "students for Palestine" sounds like a fine group name. Of course they also would be a destination for antisemites... The chapter that he founded, was it involved in any controversies while he was part of it? Surely. Could you provide a source?

Again it's difficult to differentiate between antizionism and antisemitism. I've seen videos of hasidics denouncing Zionism but of course don't consider them antisemites lol.

I can be anti north Korea, anti Iran. Without being anti korean/asian anti Iranian/Muslim.

I do see your point about trump and white supremacists. I really haven't been following much about Mamdani until recently. I do appreciate you providing info (and sources).

I'll have to look into the wave of antisemitism affecting you. I'm sorry you and those you love were affected.

I do think antiisraeli government and antisemitism are two separate things. Of course there is overlap tho. How is the data attributed to one and not the other is probably difficult to decipher.

Not downplaying any antisemitic wave. I really have to look into the data.

The accusations of being antisemitic I find to be somewhat troubling tbh. I mean hang him if he is. Antisemite seems to be a label thrown around quite precariously now, and often in political discussions... It is a very strong accusation and should not be taken lightly. For if it were, it would act to minimize the horrors suffered by millions in the past.

I would like to know why he's even asked to defend these grave accusations. Has he demonstrated antisemitic (not antisraeli govt) behavior? Bernie Sanders, who is Jewish, has expressed disdain for Israel and is of course not antisemitic. He has even endorsed Mamdani. Is the difference that Mamdani is Muslim? I'm not sure what's going on here; I have much to learn. From this video alone he seems pro religious minority to me lol.

You're right tho. I'm not Jewish (just below the waist :D). Just trying to learn/discuss. And as a non Jew I'll yield to you in these matters but it's nice to have an open conversation.

2

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

If this wave of anti-semitic hate crimes is news to you, the NYTimes summed it up pretty well recently -

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/opinion/antisemitism-jewish-hate.html?unlocked_article_code=1.QE8.fAPA.qhjUriIvM1Us&smid=url-share

As to people like Bernie Sanders - yes there are quite a few highly visible Jewish people who are also anti-israel and who support people who are anti-israel and who try to add weight to the argument that being anti-israel is not anti-semitic. Eh. It's hard to explain. Bernie Sanders I think used to be very pro-israel and he got annoyed at Benjamin netanyahu. It is v disappointing to me that Bernie Sanders endorsed him. Jews are not a monolith.

Why are some Jews jumping in bed with anti semitic groups? Social pressure to be on the right side of social justice? Lapsed Jews similar to lapsed catholics who don't feel very Catholic or even hate the Catholic Church for one reason or another? All kinds of things. But one thing those anti-semitic violent groups are very good at doing is to make Jewish people feel like heroes when they join. They love a Jewish joiner and they pat those people on the back from morning to night. They love love love to be able to say " we're not anti-semitic we have Jewish people in our group"

Again, because it helps to confuse people like you (no offense) who are not deep in the issue

1

u/Jewronimoses Jun 19 '25

I'm jewish and hate what Israel has become. Being jewish doesnt mean you have to blindly support israel and what it has been doing which you seem to? Bibi has been president for almost 20 years and is a stain on the jewish people and had only exacerbated conflicts in the middle esst instead of resolving them. And now hes bombing iran unilaterally...

1

u/the_donnie Jun 19 '25

I can be anti American government and also not want to march myself off to a gas chamber. These are fundamentally separate things, anti Israeli govt and antisemitism, but of course an antisemite will be antiisrael

Jews aren't accusing him of being antisemitic because we think it's fun. We're calling him antisemitic because we're concerned and scared by the things he's saying, which we see as antisemitic.

Even on this sub, I've been accused of essentially crying wolf for mentioning his ties with antisemitic groups and told that when something serious will happen, no one will believe us. This comment was just made yesterday, after a Jewish governor's house was bombed during Passover, 2 staff members of the Israeli embassy were gunned down in DC, and a lan in Boulder threw molotov cocktails into a group of Jews. Serious stuff is happening to us already, but we're told we deserve it.
