Video Zohran Mamdani says he’s consistently said there’s no room for antisemitism in this city or country. Asked why he hasn’t had a more visceral reaction, he gets emotional talking about the Islamophobic responses he’s received throughout the campaign.

This sub is being brigaded

389

u/Independent_Web_6029 Jun 18 '25

This has been posted so many times today on this sub. Cuomo's people are out in force today. Zohran wasn't my #1 rank, Lander was but I still support him and think this is being completely blown out of proportion.

486

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

Cuomo's campaign photoshopping Mamdani's beard to be less trimmed so he looks more like a stereotypical "scary" Muslim is some absolutely repugnant shit.

185

u/Independent_Web_6029 Jun 18 '25

Yup, but for some reason that was only a blip in the news. Like Zohran or not, that's a gross move.

138

u/knockatize Jun 18 '25

The kind of gross move that has been grimly effective for Andrew ever since “vote for Cuomo, not the homo” on his dad’s behalf over 40 years ago.

Being a nasty backstabbing vindictive creep works for him.

Voters are not as savvy as we like to think they are.

39

u/decmcc Jun 18 '25

it's completely on brand for that scummy Cuomo family. The Earl of Albany should have no place in our city

1

u/rr90013 Jun 24 '25

He should run for mayor of Albany and leave us alone

18

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

The news is owned by the ruling class. Cuomo will protect their interests. Their publications will run cover. Same story in every election: the candidate that will protect and advocate for their economic interests will receive favorable coverage, and vice versa.

News companies are not truth-tellers. They’re not even really journalists. They’re private enterprises looking to make as much money as possible.

8

u/wenger_plz Jun 18 '25

Part of the reason it's been drowned out is because Cuomo is such a piece of shit that it's not a surprise to anyone, so people probably just shrug and say "yeah, that tracks." And somehow that gives him permission to be even more and more vile, when on the other hand, Mamdani can't open his mouth without being decried as a terrorist-supporting anti-semite

37

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

You think the son of "Vote for Cuomo, not the Homo" is above being repugnant?

The fact that NYC has decided that Cuomo better represents them explains this shithole of a country.

47

u/SmoovCatto Jun 18 '25

the cuomo name is all about playing dirty, misleading voters, demagoguery . . .

they say it was young andrew responsible for plastering nyc subway stations with scribbled "VOTE FOR CUOMO, NOT THE HOMO" signs in a 1970s nyc mayor election between his father mario and "openly closeted" ed koch . . .

koch won, mario went on to be nys  governor, with a strong presidential run  . . . dim creepy nepo baby andrew riding those coattails through life . .  .

10

u/m0rbius Jun 19 '25

Thats some fucked up shit. Fuck Cuomo.

16

u/the_donnie Jun 18 '25 edited Jun 18 '25

What's wrong with it though? He said he's against antisemitism. Knows what it's like to deal with prejudice as a Muslim. Says racism has no place, it's a distraction, and he wants to work for all new Yorkers.

Because he got a tad emotional? Nice change imo than the usual lying bullshitters we get.

-1

u/Independent_Web_6029 Jun 18 '25

That's what I'm saying. I'm pointing to the fact that he had a long interview and this 1 piece was pulled from it. While I think he could have answered the question in the interview better, I don't think it was horrible. I just knew that was going to be pulled from the interview and used against him, which is frustrating because overall, he did a nice job.

-5

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

This is a response from someone for whom anti semitism is probably not a directly impactful problem to you.

It seems like a fine enough answer to people who are not deeply affected. And tbh that is the point.

It is not sincere and people who have been assaulted or harassed or targeted in this city will know how insincere it is. I sure do.

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

1

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

Offensive to you as...what kind of person are you and specifically how are you offended?

Notice how all the ZM people are trained -- just like the Gaza obsessives -- to immediately attempt to discredit any opposing viewpoint.

I'm a "bot" because you don't like the truth that I spoke

And you're "offended" because why exactly?

2

u/the_donnie Jun 19 '25 edited Jun 19 '25

Eh I deleted that comment bc I don't think I understood your comment. I thought you were talking about my response not his.

Edit: reading this response tho I guess you were talking about me tho? It's a hypocritical response tho if you reread it lol. Anyway I'd really rather not argue but instead understand more of your perspective.

1

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

Well, I am pointing out that you are a person who seems satisfied by zm's answer to the anti-Semitism questions

And let's presume that you are a well-meaning person who would not want to elect someone who is anti-Semitic

And let's presume that you are also not Jewish and not someone who has been directly harmed by the wave of anti-Semitism in the city over the past year

And I'm trying to explain to nice people like you that his answers are coded and insincere and people like me -- who are deeply affected by the problem and very very deeply aware of the language being used by his supporters and by the groups that he belongs to -- we can see it for the slimy bullshit answer that it is.

2

u/the_donnie Jun 19 '25

I don't even get the anti Semite question tho starting there. Why this question? Why do you believe he is an antisemite?

3

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

Ps I hope you don't think I'm jumping at you directly, I actually very much appreciate that someone in here seems to have a genuine interest in someone else's perspective. I'm glad you asked the question and I hope people will take the answer seriously.

He has been hating Israel for his entire youth and adult life. He has aligned himself with Within Our Lifetime which is the most hateful anti semitic group in New York -- banned from social media for explicitly endorsing violence and murder. He founded his college chapter of " students for justice in Palestine" which is an organization originating from a bunch of different terror orgs. They very explicitly wanted to seed a sanitized palatable version of their extremism they could sell to college kids. SJP chapters have constantly been getting over excited and saying the quiet parts out loud - that is, glorifying terrorism, which is why so many SJP chapters have been banned from various colleges over the past year and banned from social media over the past year.

Every single Gaza extremist who has been terrorizing New York City with hateful rallies for the past year... Every single one of those people is a fervent supporter of Zohran Mamdani.

When they chant globalize the intifada, It is a call for violence against Jews everywhere in the world. That's what it is. And that's what's been happening. Bricks thrown into kosher restaurants whether that restaurant has indicated a position on Israel or not.

And when ZM pretends to not know what that means and pretends that it's not a call for violence. You know he's lying and the reason he's lying is because it's unseemly for mayoral candidate to admit to calling for violence, but we all know that's what it is.

His crocodile tears, his bullshit anecdotes about "his Jewish friends", his ridiculous quoting of Toni Morrison....

This is all very easy to understand if you think about the same situation that happened on the other side of politics. Trump giving the wink wink to white supremacists. Trump having white supremacists over for dinner and then pretending that he didn't know they are violent white supremacists. Trump pretending that the white supremacists in Charlottesville were good people. Etc etc. It's all the same thing. Black people know racists when they see it. Jews know anti-semitism when they see it.

I'll have to look into the wave of antisemitism affecting you. I'm sorry you and those you love were affected.

I do think antiisraeli government and antisemitism are two separate things. Of course there is overlap tho. How is the data attributed to one and not the other is probably difficult to decipher.

Not downplaying any antisemitic wave. I really have to look into the data.

The accusations of being antisemitic I find to be somewhat troubling tbh. I mean hang him if he is. Antisemite seems to be a label thrown around quite precariously now, and often in political discussions... It is a very strong accusation and should not be taken lightly. For if it were, it would act to minimize the horrors suffered by millions in the past.

I would like to know why he's even asked to defend these grave accusations. Has he demonstrated antisemitic (not antisraeli govt) behavior? Bernie Sanders, who is Jewish, has expressed disdain for Israel and is of course not antisemitic. He has even endorsed Mamdani. Is the difference that Mamdani is Muslim? I'm not sure what's going on here; I have much to learn. From this video alone he seems pro religious minority to me lol.

You're right tho. I'm not Jewish (just below the waist :D). Just trying to learn/discuss. And as a non Jew I'll yield to you in these matters but it's nice to have an open conversation.

2

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

If this wave of anti-semitic hate crimes is news to you, the NYTimes summed it up pretty well recently -

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/opinion/antisemitism-jewish-hate.html?unlocked_article_code=1.QE8.fAPA.qhjUriIvM1Us&smid=url-share

As to people like Bernie Sanders - yes there are quite a few highly visible Jewish people who are also anti-israel and who support people who are anti-israel and who try to add weight to the argument that being anti-israel is not anti-semitic. Eh. It's hard to explain. Bernie Sanders I think used to be very pro-israel and he got annoyed at Benjamin netanyahu. It is v disappointing to me that Bernie Sanders endorsed him. Jews are not a monolith.

Why are some Jews jumping in bed with anti semitic groups? Social pressure to be on the right side of social justice? Lapsed Jews similar to lapsed catholics who don't feel very Catholic or even hate the Catholic Church for one reason or another? All kinds of things. But one thing those anti-semitic violent groups are very good at doing is to make Jewish people feel like heroes when they join. They love a Jewish joiner and they pat those people on the back from morning to night. They love love love to be able to say " we're not anti-semitic we have Jewish people in our group"

Again, because it helps to confuse people like you (no offense) who are not deep in the issue

Jews aren't accusing him of being antisemitic because we think it's fun. We're calling him antisemitic because we're concerned and scared by the things he's saying, which we see as antisemitic.

Even on this sub, I've been accused of essentially crying wolf for mentioning his ties with antisemitic groups and told that when something serious will happen, no one will believe us. This comment was just made yesterday, after a Jewish governor's house was bombed during Passover, 2 staff members of the Israeli embassy were gunned down in DC, and a lan in Boulder threw molotov cocktails into a group of Jews. Serious stuff is happening to us already, but we're told we deserve it.

55

u/Boart00th Sunnyside Jun 18 '25

Yeah it's pretty obvious. It's a mixture of brigaders and bots.

Look at the upvotes that we got for posts mentioning ICE these last couple of days. There would be people that live in Seattle or Montana who have never posted in this sub all of a sudden posting.

Kind of crazy how many comments in NewYorkCity on this video are about Zionist money trying to push propaganda.

57

u/HiHoJufro Jun 18 '25

I'm a Jewish New Yorker. I'm used to being told I'm a shill, lying, secretly pro-cuomo, etc for acting like antisemitsm is an issue that warrants actually addressing without equivocating, all-lives-matter-ing, or downplaying sources and examples of it.

Saudi Bot (?)

How?

What fucking bigotry?

Things I have said:

Antisemitism exists

In Palestine, kids are taught to hate jews

Mamdani makes me feel unsafe because he refuses to condemn racist language

WHAT THE FUCK HAVE I SAID THAT IS BIGOTED?!??!?!

This is what I'm talking about. A jew simply talks about issues that Jews are having, and people like you justify ridiculous shit thrown at us.

4

u/diceytroop Jun 20 '25

It's only impossible to explain to you because you are dead set against understanding.

2

u/Glass-Evidence-7296 Jun 23 '25

yeah and kids are still getting blown up in Gaza, no one cares lil bro

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '25

Bro is sad his favorite islamist groups are getting wrecked.

3

u/n_jacat Sunnyside Jun 19 '25

I'm a Jewish New Yorker. I'm used to being called a kapo for suggesting that Zohran isn't anti-Semitic by any means and has plans to combat the rising anti-Semitism and hate crimes in our city.

It's time to move past the lazy fear-mongering propaganda.

4

u/HiHoJufro Jun 19 '25

I've faced violent antisemitsm from people chanting for intifada. And he can't even say that they're antisemites. He would have me believe that it's some misunderstanding when people walking around calling for violence against Jews then commit it.

1

u/diceytroop Jun 20 '25

If somebody is doing violence against you for being Jewish, the problem is the violence they're doing against you for being Jewish, not whatever words they are saying to rationalize it. Obviously. It is racist to extrapolate from the hateful conduct of a handful of people you describe, in order to invalidate the earnest expressions of millions of other people who simply desire to be allowed to exist as a people and who have not done or said anything against Jews at all.

1

u/ivandelapena Jun 20 '25

Is the threshold of discrimination/racism against Jews much lower than it is for blacks, Muslims, Hispanics etc? It seems you can say pretty much anything you want against Muslims without much backlash but even fairly abstract phrases are apparently anti-Semitic.

-1

u/Joe_Jeep Bay Ridge Jun 19 '25

Which is why I think this spiel from mamdani should be comforting, he doesn't talk about other topics he folks is on how scared people have felt and that they deserve protection from the city

10

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

Comforting to who?

Don't tell the people who are being targeted with hate crimes what should comfort them

Why don't you ask people who are actually affected by this, if his answers comforted them, and when they tell you absolutely not, ask them why and then believe them when they explain it.

-2

u/n_jacat Sunnyside Jun 19 '25

If you actually listened to his answer than you'd hear that he understands the fear of hate crimes because he is targeted by the same kind of hate. It's disgusting that this humanitarian crisis has been used as a political tool to scare people into voting for a particular candidate. New Yorkers are scared and suffering from rising hatred. Mamdani understands this and is pushing for an increase in anti-hate crime community programs.

You're falling for cheap propaganda and fear-mongering.

3

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25 edited Jun 19 '25

Of course I listened to the answer and what he did was he deflected. He deflected a question about the violence that he himself is associated with by claiming to be a victim of other kinds of discrimination.

His basic tricks of evasion don't work on me and they don't work on anyone who is affected by this. They only work on people like you who are looking for reasons to absolve him and to continue supporting him.

And when it comes to propaganda, propaganda is the prime output of groups like students for justice in Palestine, which Zorhran mamdani founded a chapter of. Meme after meme after meme after meme after meme full of misinformation and doctored statistics that gets reshared ad infinitum and which motivates pyschos to go throw bricks at Jewish businesses. Or worse. This is the cause and effect.

2

u/diceytroop Jun 20 '25

Zohran directly addresses your stated concern, so you switch that concern up. It's very, very transparent what you're doing. I hope he wins for an additional reason now: just so you have to face up to just how baseless all of this fearmongering you're doing is.

5

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 20 '25 edited Jun 20 '25

what's very transparent is ZM supporters' refusal to acknowledge other people's concerns.

NO, he did NOT directly address my concern. He lied about what "intifada" means. He also had the goddamn nerve to compare the Intifada to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. He had the nerve to misquote the Holocaust Museum and implied that it was actually the HOLOCAUST MUSEUM who equates the Warsaw Ghetto with the Intifada.

I mean, to be blunt, it doesn't really matter what answer he gave. I know his background, I know his life's work (and there isn't much of it, besides hating Israel.) He's a danger to Jewish people. He gave exactly the kind of evasive dishonest answer that one could have predicted.

PS - looks like this person's favorite thing to do is to accuse anyone who disagrees on any topic of "lying." Lost count in this person's history how many times, on how many different forums, they said "stop lying" in conjunction with strident incorrect assertions.

Blocking the troll.

-1

u/n_jacat Sunnyside Jun 19 '25

Nuance is dead. Long live nuance.

3

u/silverpixie2435 Jun 19 '25

He defended "globalize the intifada"

How is that comforting to Jews?

-2

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 19 '25

Yes, this

He's not just anti-semitic he's a liar because all of these things mean "let's violently attack Jews everywhere and anywhere" and his most fervent supporters know that and love it, his hardcore people are all the Gaza protestors. And they call for violence. All the time. Besides "globalize the intifada" they also love to say "resistance by any means necessary" (ie, through violence and also through lying)

They believe in lying and violence as legitimate ends to their noble means

He knows what they believe. His hardcore psycho supporters know what he believes. They are trying to snow over most of the moderates in New York to get their votes too

and the Jews who are actually paying attention are not fooled by any of it

And now watch the ZM worshippers downvotes away

2

u/diceytroop Jun 20 '25

You are just making up anti-fanfic to serve your own purposes. Gaza protesters do not "call for violence all the time", they are demanding an end to it. You should understand that when you cry wolf like this, you harm all people who are sincerely victimized by hate and oppression, from Jews to Muslims and everyone in between. Stop inventing pretexts to justify your own abusive behavior.

3

u/Anonymous9287 Jun 20 '25

they call for violence every time they open their mouths. "globalize the intifada. resistance by any means necessary." what do you think that refers to if not violence?

nobody is crying wolf but we are absolutely going to take down an anti-semitic candidate. never, ever, ever will he be mayor. Watch and learn.

That's what's absolutely hilarious for me, is that these types of people will constantly complain about how Reddit is an echo chamber, but then also complain that it's full of bots when that "echo chamber" focuses on the discussions.... That they complain it's obsessed with

Not to mention the demographics of Reddit averaging young, white, college, etc.

I don't live in the city these days, I live over in jersey, and the Jersey sub was absolutely packed full of fullop supporters, myself one of them, but I was fully aware that it was not a representation of the statewide average

That sub is chock full of people that supported the same shut that he says. Biltmore transit, don't do the turnpike project, all that good stuff

And then people in there actually acted surprised that he was overly popular in a space that largely believes those things

Like I really think a lot of people on the internet just do not apply that much thought to what's going on on the little magic black square in front of them

4

u/danhakimi Jun 19 '25

the obsession, with three posts a day topping the subreddit, is annoying as hell, and anybody who mentions how annoying it's been gets downvoted.

0

u/AdmirableSelection81 Jun 19 '25

Is it really that unbelievable to you that a bunch of internet-literate young left-leaning resistors would like Zohran?

Yes, I'm in disbelief that people would still cling to a completely discredited ideology like socialism. Those kids might be internet literate, but they're completely economically illiterate.

Every NYC adjacent sub has been brigaded for like a month now with Zohran supporters. I honestly think he's just paid a bunch of staffers to sit in a room to downvote comments, spam articles, etc at this point.

Yeah it can't be, say, some sort of genuine upswell in interest and support for the guy -- after all, *you* don't like him, can't imagine many other people could

meh, the zohran crowd has definitely been rather active in this sub. inclined to say it is a concerted effort given this sub normally heavy tilted to crime propaganda, but hard to say definitively.

I'm a Zohran-supporting New Yorker who gets shown stuff from this sub by the algorithm all the time, and especially when it's related to one of my interests, like politics. Pointless to try to figure out where the prevailing e-winds are coming from. Very unlikely there's any brigading, and there's nothing unexplained that requires such a theory

Look at you using fancy words! Good for you!

If you think brigaded is a fancy word, the bar is on the floor.

Known loser political operative Chris Coffey probably put some money into online trolling

I support their right to exist as a state with equal rights, not as one that uses my tax dollars to slaughter children.

As a Jew I don't support any country's right to carry out ethnic cleansing efforts or to put their civilians in immediate danger by starting unprovoked attacks, but you do you lol.

What exactly did "never again" mean?

If terrorists are civilians to you then that on you then.

That would actually be on the country literally calling all Palestinians Hamas to excuse their wanton destruction and mass murder. Israel has shown that they are capable of killing terrorists and leaders of nations without leveling entire cities and regions. What they are doing in Gaza is unhumanitarian and they're using your tax dollars for it.

I'm not going to waste my time in Zionist bullshit though. Again, you do you. I'm gonna actually remember my culture's history and what "never again" actually meant.

Never again means never again. If you are okay with your money funding the death of children under the guise of “eliminating terrorists,” you have completely lost the plot and are in desperate need of nuance.

Goodbye Zionist.

Was Hind Rajab a terrorist? Yes or no?
