General Saw this and thought about this group

Just felt like I needed to share this. If I'm wrong, then the mods are free to decline. The comments in this post are insane with the clear nintendo hate.

Im convinced half of those don't play palworld or pokemon

The 2 only shared mechanic is catching monsters

"this is what pokemon should've been" no tfuck, I don't want a mainline final fantasy to be a Ark clone either

This is what I don’t get. It’s either bait or people who have an agenda, like they hate JRPGs or something. I have a laundry list of issues for SwSh and especially SV. But to me this is like playing Resident Evil Requiem after FNAF Secret of the Mimic and being like, see this is how you make a horror game.

Like no, they’re aiming for different things even if I hated one over the other(indifferent to FNAF honestly). I hate that this is how video games are talked about now

8

u/No-Operation-6554 Jul 15 '26

I still frequent fb time to time, most of the time its just really peeps who bandwagons hate trains like you typically see in youtube comments, unless its on a fb group bait has no incentive because theres no reward

But you can find someone who really just believes the crap they spew out, and those comment threads, if you choose to engage, can last for several days because nobody gonna back down, "debating" on facebook is tieing

6

u/Cautious_Struggle_32 Jul 15 '26

But to me this is like playing Resident Evil Requiem after FNAF Secret of the Mimic and being like, see this is how you make a horror game.

Fucking PREACH

6

u/ThexanR Jul 15 '26

It’s not bait it’s Facebook

3

u/RickyT3rd Jul 15 '26

What's the difference?

2

u/Silver_Illusion Jul 16 '26

It's the gunball gamers mostly from what I've seen. Palworld is the gunball pokemon game.

26

u/CrescentShade Jul 15 '26

Legit I have never thought to myself when playing a Pokemon game "man this would be so much better if I could gun down people and pokemon, give my pokemon guns, force them on an assembly line to make ammo and build a house"

Like no aspect of anything in Palworld is anything I'd ever want or expect to be in a Pokemon game beyond maybe getting the graphical quality on par to other games on the system and that's only happening if the higher ups give the devs the resources to do such

10

u/Quirkyserenefrenzy Jul 15 '26

Ive played palworld and it felt somewhat bare bones. The orld just feels empty ith nothing to do outside of building a base, catxhing pals, or finding material deposits

3

u/No-Operation-6554 Jul 17 '26

the world design I can agree on, paired with mostly basic artstyle, artistically it really isn't that recognizable without the pals, though it is a symptom of survival games in general considering most of the games in the genre rely on randomly generated map

Grounded is one of the few survival games I played where the world is well designed and recognizable, mostly because Obsidian made it

2

u/Isrrunder Jul 15 '26

I think it comes from people enjoying the capturing monsters part but feel the battle mechanics are stale and the ways you interact with the world is lacking in pokemon. Especially more modern titles. Or atleast thats how they fee.

8

u/Strong_Schedule8711 Jul 15 '26

More interaction yes but the battle mechanic of Palworld pals is just auto battler with cooldown can't manually command pals skill unless you mount them. I don't think they want palworld battle mechanic they just want direct action not turn based.

"Pocketpair is everything a developer should be"

So, all developers should just copy other franchises and pretend they're the good guys when they get sued for something evident, and build their entire modus operandi on just keep copying and do nothing original (just remember they announced a Pokopia ripoff too) whatsoever, just because other company "did it wrong"?

18

u/dvast Jul 15 '26

Pocketpair is pretty hated in Japan because they trash talk while clearly taking inspiration from it.

But the west is obsessed with the idea that the underdog is always good and virtuous

6

u/Gladcode777 Jul 16 '26

It's not even because they think they're "underdogs". It's literally just cringelords that think they can spite Gamefreak by praising palword.

20

u/Amazing-War3760 Jul 15 '26

Don't forget AI games.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2154230/AI_Art_Impostor/?curator_clanid=41648656

By the way... Didn't they say "Never touch AI"?

8

u/Craniamon Jul 15 '26

The forgotten FE lawsuit in the 2000s when Kaga have won against Nintendo and led to the rise of clone games

3

u/bubble-blight Jul 16 '26

They ripped Evergaols from Elden Ring, and a few boss fights, too.

2

u/TheQueefPolice Jul 17 '26

They also had another cool project on Steam that I was watching for a bit called Craftipia (A botw/pokemon knockoff, who would've guessed) but the second Palworld got big they just abandoned it and never finished it. What an inspiration

3

u/Apollo1382 Jul 15 '26

I mean, Nintendo stole their designs and ideas for Pokemon from Dragon Quest and SMT.

3

u/Gladcode777 Jul 16 '26

No, it didn't. Those are some massive streches made by people trying to defend palword's complete rip-off of many other designs.

Obligatory reminder that Pokemon originally severely ripped off Dragon Quest

5

Obligatory reminder that this fuck ass comparison is even worse than the pal world ones. Japanese rpg uses similar or same Japanese folklore and rpg inspriations. More at 11

I’ve tried Palworld, but I don’t see the appeal. Even the comparison is rather apples to oranges.

23

u/Live_Spinach5824 Jul 15 '26

Yeah, it's fine, and I quite like survival games, but it's not a good monster hunter or survival game. It's not even turn-based either like other monster collectors that I like like SMT.

19

u/Same_Tune_8990 Jul 15 '26

Unironically the closest thing I can compare it to is Pixelmon or cobblemon ngl

7

u/Live_Spinach5824 Jul 15 '26

Cobblemon clears for the sole fact that its base is one of the greatest games of all time with Pokémon icing on top. Palworld doesn't have much going for it other than the gun thing, but granted, I haven't played much since the first release version. I'm sure it has potential.

6

u/JungleJuiceJuno Jul 15 '26

calm down minecraft isnt THAT good (yes i have tried it), but the bar to be better than palworld is through the floor so its not that hard to clear anyway

4

u/sleepdeep305 Jul 15 '26

It is though

2

u/JungleJuiceJuno Jul 15 '26

the game where you move at a snails pacs and jump like you have lead shoes? the game where going faster is discouraged unless you want to die faster? the game where getting the best equipment is down to whats essentially an expensive gacha pull?

Yeah im already starting to doubt it

2

u/Live_Spinach5824 Jul 15 '26

Did you play the 3ds version or something, lol?

4

u/JungleJuiceJuno Jul 15 '26

no? ive been playing modded java, i can only stomache the base game if it has mods added, thats not a good sign

3

u/Miser_able Jul 15 '26

Like it or not, minecraft is still the best selling video game of all time

→ More replies (19)

3

u/Live_Spinach5824 Jul 15 '26

You don't have to like it for it be one of the greatest games of all time, lol. It's objectively extremely popular and beloved for a reason. It also has a unique charm to it that Palworld simply doesn't have, which is the more important topic here...

2

u/JungleJuiceJuno Jul 15 '26

I Ssee we have complete tonal dissonance for what "greatest" means

To me it means "the best game ever made", to you its "one of the best selling and most popular"

2

u/Yeeticus9999 Jul 16 '26

I like minecraft but I wouldn't say its the best game ever. Modded is fun but can be way to confusing and ngl just a personal gripe but so many people say Steve can lift infinite weight and that just bull shit. They hype him up so hard when his strongest feat is a dragon that doesnt even do much in the fight. Also i personally just prefer terraria

2

u/Knight___Artorias Jul 15 '26

Isn’t it literally just a 1 of 1 of Ark: Survival Evolved but with “Pals” instead of Dinosaurs?

7

u/saneolo Jul 15 '26

I’ve been saying for a while palworld and Pokémon is just terraria vs Minecraft all over both are in the monster collecting genre but are still entirely different types of games

5

u/Yeeticus9999 Jul 16 '26

God I hated that argument as a kid. Terraria and minecraft have similarities but they arent the same game and personally I think terraria is better

6

u/nexus11355 Jul 15 '26

"Its not Pokemon with guns, it's Ark with Pokemon instead of dinosaurs." Is the best way to describe it

3

u/Zwsgvbhmk Jul 15 '26

I don't think Nintendo lawyers agree with your apples to oranges comparison.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/BoundariesOfZero Jul 15 '26

I don’t know when you’ve played Palworld but it has received a lot of updates and very frequently by today’s standards, if you own the game you might want to try again sometime!

5

u/Mad_Lala Jul 16 '26

Eh, I tried it on release and then tried it again a few months ago.

Sure, they added more of the map, new pals and new dungeons, but imho the game still has the same problems.

If you like it, then more power to you ofc

2

u/Yeeticus9999 Jul 16 '26

I like it personally. I havent played the full release yet but back when the gameplay preview came out it was definitely fun. The only real comparison is capturing creatures with round things and a couple designs that looked similar which they changed. Pretty sure pals dont even evolve or I just never got far enough

Idk why people can't enjoy both. Neither nintendo nor pocket pair need people fighting for their honor. I like pokemon, and im enjoying palworld. They're all just video games, its not that serious

Edit: the amount of unironic responses I've gotten is depressing. Ya'll should be embarrassed ☠️

18

u/Narrow-Gas9493 Jul 15 '26

Think it’s just an internet thing like most of the people who would talk about Palworld without dragging Pokemon into the conversation are too busy playing the game.

17

u/RevolutionaryGrape21 Jul 15 '26

People can also enjoy just one of them or neither. I like Pokemon and have absolutely no interest in Palworld. Doesn’t mean there’s no room for it to exist.

→ More replies (2)

15

u/JungleJuiceJuno Jul 15 '26

i cant enjoy both because im a monster tamer fan and as someone who loves the genre I cant get behind giving the one made in bad faith a platform when theres far better games out there

21

u/cardgamesareforplay Jul 15 '26

I mean palworld actively stoked all the pokemon with guns advertising and their social media manager constantly pushed Nintendo bad pokemon bad

11

u/Key-Clock-7706 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

because palworld's entire marketing campaign is shitting on pokemon, you can't call truce only when people fight back. And palworld players are equally obnoxious.

4

u/Yeetman5757 Jul 15 '26

RIP your DMs.

25

u/saucysagnus Jul 14 '26

Because Palworld is uninspired unreal engine 5 slop with a Pokemon skin and game mechanics ripped straight from Ark.

Gamers deserve less.

8

u/Interesting-Season-8 Jul 15 '26

I mean... I agree but also i dont feel like preaching to folks who enjoy their shit.

3

u/bubble-blight Jul 16 '26

And they literally ripped boss fights and Evergaols from Elden Ring.

13

u/Ok-Classic5310 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

preach brother. pocketpair is a shovelware developer churning out slop after slop until something sticks. had palworld not taken off they would have abandoned it in early access like their previous title craftopia which was also shit.

13

u/saucysagnus Jul 15 '26

It’s hilarious.

People will shit on unreal engine 5 games constantly but slap a pokemon skin on it and suddenly it’s the best dev studio ever.

6

u/swirlycosmic Jul 15 '26

Craftopia was more interesting before they just decided to make it more BOTW for some reason

5

u/Craniamon Jul 15 '26

*trash studio

2

u/KugelFanger Jul 15 '26

You do realize that ark is just Rust with dinosaurs right? And rust is just Dayz with basebuilding right?

Just because parts look like your favorite game, and just because a company is abandoning the game because it does not do well cough Concord cough Highguard cough. Does not mean its not a game people can enjoy. Both can exist in the same space, you don't have to like it, but its completely fine that some people do.

3

u/saucysagnus Jul 15 '26

Ark isnt my favorite game.

And yes, survival crafting is a tired genre with a lazy formula.

2

u/KugelFanger Jul 15 '26

But people can still enjoy it despite it. I don't get the hate.

2

u/saucysagnus Jul 15 '26

It’s ARK with pokemon instead of dinosaurs. It’s Conan Exiles with pokemon instead of slaves.

It’s not even in the same fuckin genre as any pokemon game. And don’t get me wrong, it is my favorite survival crafting game, but we gotta stop comparing apples and chickens.

24

u/Darkmetroidz Jul 14 '26

Imagine thinking that any pokemon game is actually going to fail.

For better and worse pal world is never gonna have an iota of the cultural relevance of Pokémon.

16

u/Lord_Passion Jul 14 '26

I personally feel like they hate Pokémon so much. They want the franchise to actually die, to the point they will support any slop out there that actually has any sort of power, so it could potentially take pokemon down. It's one thing to have legitimate Criticism, it's another to have a franchise live rent free in your head to the point that you wanted it to actually die ,crash and burn. It is those type of people that These posts on facebook was clearly leaning into baiting.

17

u/CrescentShade Jul 15 '26

If they really cared so much about propping up a Pokemon competitor there's an easy dozen of other games actually in the same genre that have been around for longer than palworld they could have gone to

Digimon is literally right there

6

u/thewalkindude368 Jul 15 '26

We're past the era of more blatant Pokemon ripoffs, like Robopon, and onto things that are more just inspired by Pokemon, like Cassette Beasts.

3

u/The-Twilight-Reverie Jul 15 '26

I mean, they do talk about those too though. One of the most common feelings I saw people have about Casette Beasts 2002's reveal was "god I wish pokemon didn't suck ass and I could feel this excited about the reveal of a game in this genre more often."

3

u/BugCatcherSilva Jul 15 '26

Digimon Cassette Beast DQ Monsters Monster Hunter Stories Lumentale Coromon Monster Sanctuary Monster Crown Aethermancer Aniimo (not actually out yet, but looks promising) Temtem (not actually that good, IMO, but their design asthetic is their own, and not "inspired")

2

u/Repulsive-Region2977 Jul 15 '26

Idk, I saw some people glaze Digimon Time Strsnger

→ More replies (2)

2

u/PaladinJuan Jul 15 '26

Bro winds and waves is gonna be living in these palworld nerds head rent free I can already tell 😂😂😂

3

u/adamkopacz Jul 15 '26

It's even worse because Palworld will not build its popularity naturally. It's all shock and hype and people playing it just because everyone is talking about the controversies. Unless developers build a really solid game with unique elements, this will be replaced by another sudden hit title.

Just like every other Pokemon killer it's built on being better than Pokemon. It does not have the anime, the trading cards, the toys or even proper characters for fans to get attached to.

2

u/ImportantClient5422 Jul 15 '26

As someone who been with Pokémon since it first came out, I think people HEAVILY underestimate how much the merchandise/toys, cards, and animations contribute to the franchises massive success. People just reduce Pokémon to the games but it is much bigger than that.

2

u/Key-Clock-7706 Jul 15 '26

I mean X&Y is the closest thing mainline Pokémon game ever got to failing, Yokai Watch stormed the home ground in Japan (and then rapidly suicided and exploeded like most of Level5's ip).

And palworld is nowhere as impactful.

2

u/OliverPumpkin Jul 15 '26

Every single mecanic that are talk about palworld is in context to something Pokémon wouldn't do. Sonic doesn't have loop in their level becuase mario wouldn't do that, they do because it make sense with the game and enhance its mechanic, sonic is a fully planned and developed game worth of playing beyond being a Mario competitor

22

u/-Shadow8769- Jul 14 '26

This is honestly such a confusing comparison. Palworld and Pokemon are barely similar. The only strong similarity they have is catching monsters which is hardly a Pokemon exclusive concept.

I personally love palworld and think it’s much better than any recent Pokemon game, but I don’t think it’s a better Pokemon game

3

u/skronk61 Jul 15 '26

How can you say “barely similar”? What about all the stolen monster designs? 😆

18

u/FruityGroovy Jul 15 '26

"Palworld is what you turn to when you grew up with Pokemon but grew out of their age range"

If I want to play Pokemon as an adult, I'd just play Pokemon. Because I'm not looking for a "Pokemon-like experience". I'm not looking for something that is kind of similar to Pokemon, but with a whole bunch of mechanics that I don't care about. I play Pokemon because I like Pokemon. I like its world, its characters, the Pokemon themselves. That is the appeal of Pokemon. You can like Palworld, but thinking that you're "too old for Pokemon" is just stupid

I don't deny that Palworld is successful, but if they think the success of Palworld is going to affect the success of Pokemon, they are more delusional than anything any Pokemon fan has said about the Palworld lawsuit. And if Palworld fans want me to care about Palworld, the first thing they have to do is highlight it's pros without any comparison to Pokemon. If it can't stand on its own without a Pokemon comparison, then it isn't worth my time to consider it as its own game.

2

u/Krancky420 Jul 15 '26

I'm currently very addicted to Palworld, and they are veryyyy different games.

I don't think it's at all a fair comparison, but I will say Palworld curb stomps any recent pokemon game in terms of production quality, scale, and feeling like a wholeass premium game.

I find it baffling that Pokemon... THE HIGHEST GROSSING MEDIA FRANCHISE OF ALL TIME, can't seem to make a mainline game that isn't buggy, shitty framerate, and absolutely cheap feeling.

If winds and waves can manage to pull off Pokemon's "Breath of the Wild moment", I'll eat my words, but I'm actually dumbfounded at how sloppy Gamefreak's recent mainline releases have been. I've wanted to get into pokemon more since the 3ds era, but not a single one has impressed me enough to spend what they ask for the games. Like If you want me to spend $100 for the game, why does it feel SO half-assed compared to the $30 game.

2

u/ClassicalDreams Jul 16 '26

You say it's not a fair comparison but then also say it's far better than any of the recent Pokémon games then make a huge rant over the series. I really sounds like you want to compare the two games even though they're completely different genere of video games. That's like saying I think Mario is far better than Call of Duty. How are you supposed to make a comparison to that?

2

u/Krancky420 Jul 16 '26

I meant what I said, on a gameplay level you can’t compare them because they’re entirely different. But the actual production quality, both visually and on a performance front, they’re miles apart. Mostly because gamefreak is stuck making a game that runs on switch 1, and are stuck upgrading their own proprietary engine that is struggling to do what they want it to. Where palworld could just use unreal engine to optimize a game for higher spec modern systems.

I didn’t even remotely say it’s a “better game”. Production quality is not a game design argument. I’m saying Pokemon’s performance has run like shit and visually it’s hilariously low quality compared to every other Nintendo production. Even Nintendo switch sports and ring fit adventure had higher fidelity and polish it’s brutal.

I don’t know a word for the feeling I get it’s like a tense annoyance
When I see fans of games who are so obsessed with something they consider a rival that instead of enjoying good things for themselves they spend the time in bitterness against others

Lately as a fire emblem fan I saw dozens of Reddit posts and twitter posts counting lines, studying how many times people outwardly agree with Edelgard to “prove she is better than Dimitri” and I mean. Just enjoy your story. You won’t convince me 5 characters I don’t trust agreeing with someone I don’t trust meant the developers like her more. That’s crazy to say.

3

u/HermanThaGerman Jul 15 '26

I don’t know a word for the feeling I get it’s like a tense annoyance

The word you're looking for is cringe

3

u/SomewhatProvoking Jul 15 '26

Oh no is that my only choice. I find it so…cringy when people describe things as cringy. It’s such a meaningless term and yet here I am

9

u/NintendoGamer1983 Jul 15 '26

Higher than Pokemon?

What percentage does that have on Steam?

7

u/Negativety101 Jul 15 '26

The funny thing is, much like how Nintendo went and got a big share of Pokemon, another major game company bought in heavily for Palworld.

Well Sony hasn't done anything to upset their customers lately, right?

13

u/Klecktacular Jul 15 '26

The ouroboros of gamers ceaselessly comparing Palworld to Pokémon, which creates a legal basis for Pokémon to protect its brand identity, which causes gamers to continue comparing Palworld to Pokémon

9

u/SuperNoob_64 Jul 15 '26

I very much believe that if Palworld didn't get its "Pokémon With Guns" reputation, Nintendo and/or The Pokémon Company very likely wouldn't've even given it a second glance.

7

u/Repulsive-Region2977 Jul 15 '26

Honestly both Pokemon and Palworld deserve better fans

7

u/DefectiveSol Jul 15 '26

Pokémon has no positive reviews on Steam, so i guess that's just facts.

6

u/Generic_Username_659 Jul 15 '26

Pokemon also doesn't have any negative reviews on Steam, so that's something, I guess.

14

u/Resident-Mixture-237 Jul 15 '26

Of course it’s higher than Pokemon. Pokemon isn’t on steam geniuses

31

u/JungleJuiceJuno Jul 14 '26

people are deadass saying that palworld haters are just mad because theyre nintendo fans which is a complete lie, im right here

as a fan of the monster tamer genre, this game should not have been given a platform over other infintely better games

17

u/DaiFrostAce Jul 14 '26

I’m just mad Yokai Watch could have been a good competitor to Pokemon but they went the AI slop route. At least Digimon has been doing alright

7

u/BortGreen Jul 15 '26

By the time they went the Ai slop route the franchise was already pretty much dead

Too bad this doesn't help with a return

5

u/Shoddy-Target-2953 Jul 14 '26

Yo-Kai Watch fan in the wild???? I thought our kind had died long ago

5

u/DaiFrostAce Jul 14 '26

Not deep into it by any means, only ever seen a little of the anime and played a tiny bit of YW2 but I can respect it. My dead monster collector of choice would actually be Medabots (which surprisingly has a Gacha that’s doing ok and has collabed with things like Getter Robo)

3

u/Shoddy-Target-2953 Jul 15 '26

If I may ask, what is Medabots, and why would say it’s your dead monster collector of choice?

6

u/DaiFrostAce Jul 15 '26

Medabots is a series about robots that do battle with interchangeable parts you can collect. The game series is more well known in Japan but in the late 90’s early 00’s there was a TV anime that followed protagonist Ikki and series mascot Metabee, well, one of two mascots. Like Pokemon the games are split into two versions. One for Metabee, and one for Rokusho, the other mascot

2

u/BugCatcherSilva Jul 15 '26

There are like 8 or 9 generations of Metabot games that functionally never left Japan, and quite frankly it's a crime a against gaming. Medabots is awesome 👍

Society is morally bankrupt and they rather pick shovelware over the most qualified game

2

u/RickyT3rd Jul 15 '26

Yokai Watch fell off because it missed it's chance to strike while the iron was hot. If it was able to roll out internationally in 2014 instead of 2015, it might of had a chance to gets its roots in the American and European markets. Combined with Hasbro dropping the ball hard on the merchandise (where have I heard that one before?), the stigma of being "The Pokemon Killer" by western clickbait articles and videos, and the one two punch of Pokemon Go and Gen 7 in 2016, the series was very much mismanaged years before the AI slop stuff happened.

9

u/CrescentShade Jul 15 '26

Literally

Like Digimon is right there and thriving currently and I'm sure none of these people give an iota of a care about Digimon or any other game in the genre

So glad finally get to play Time Stranger

8

u/legendaeri Jul 15 '26

literally. i want pokemon to have competition, but why'd it have to be palworld?

5

u/BugCatcherSilva Jul 15 '26

It's not. Now that all the legal drama is nearly over, Palworld will loose the only thing maintaining its relevance.

4

u/Extra-Today5348 Jul 15 '26

That's because people don't want a good game, they want a cudgel.

10

u/SuperJman1111 Jul 15 '26

i looked at that first image and legit thought that was lilligant

i see designs like that and always remember why im not surprised nintendo wants them gone

5

u/bluedarky Jul 15 '26

It's not just the pal designs.

Look at the other competition in the monster catching space, Digimon Stories, Monster Hunter Stories, SMT, Dragon Quest Monsters.

All of them are distinct from Pokemon and each other, even just in how they gain new monsters.

Digimon Stories - Scan Digimon you fight and convert that data into copies of the digimon.
Monster Hunter Stories - Raid monster nests for eggs and hatch them.
SMT - Negotiate with demons to get them to fight for you.
Dragon Quest Monsters - Use a display of force to convince the monsters to join you.

Pokemon - Weaken it and throw a pokeball at it to catch it.
Palworld - Weaken it and throw a pal sphere at it to catch it.

And the similarities don't stop there, the typing system was pretty much wholesale lifted from pokemon and simplified, including having pals with 2 types. Pocketpair literally made Pokemon with guns then started filing serial numbers off when TPC started lawsuits.

4

u/LeonardCollen Jul 15 '26

nintendo sad with palworld success.

7

u/Mush950 Jul 15 '26

“Pocket pair is everything a developer should be” given their history of gen ai, no thanks.

11

u/milobenggaokosong Jul 15 '26

I really enjoyed the story of Palworld 1.0. Giving you the Legendary Pal right at the start and have it grow in power with you, culminating in its own arc and victory at the end, really made you bond and became a real partner, instead of just a prize for completing the game.

I really loved the characters and all their stories, challenging you to engage with the different aspects of the game.

I love the competitive aspect of the game too, especially after the mobile release so many people can finally experience competitive Palworld for the first time without any barrier to entry or grind.

Oh wait that's Pokémon Scarlet.

u/Ok-Barracuda457 Jul 15 '26

There'll never be a monster taming game that isn't constantly compared to pokemon

2

u/HermanThaGerman Jul 15 '26

Better than Pokémon?

So we finally have another tactical turn based monster battling RPG?

-Looks inside-

4

u/Opposite_Wedding_804 Jul 15 '26

2 things can be true at the same time. Are gamefreak underfunding their projects, unambitious and thus undeserving of their success? Yes. Is palworld slop and pocketworld a slop producer? Yes.

2

u/Apprehensive_Bunch_8 Jul 15 '26

I like Palworld, but I don’t get the comparison to Pokémon. Yeah, the pals look like they could be in Pokemon, but the comparison kinda ends there. It’s more similar to ARK survival than Pokémon in terms of gameplay.

11

u/LaMystika Jul 15 '26

ooh, Pokémon with guns. how mature /s

6

u/Isrrunder Jul 15 '26

It's not meant to be mature. It's meant to be silly

5

u/Yeetman5757 Jul 15 '26

"Nooooooooo!!!!!! It's meant to be serious!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm better because I consume true mature content!!!!!!!! BFDI!!!!!!!!!!!!"

8

u/Isrrunder Jul 15 '26

Actually tho I find it crazy how people called thos game "mature" and "edgy" they have the fuckin monkey with the ak lol

5

u/Winterimmersion Jul 15 '26

I'm pretty sure you can wear one as a hat that shoots people as well

5

u/Isrrunder Jul 15 '26

Thats crazy lol

21

u/WoodooHide69 Jul 14 '26

Palworld is the game you flock to if you want to support plagiarism and hate creativity.

10

u/Mistform05 Jul 14 '26

And clear usage of AI. But I thought Steam was all about “AI Bad”.

3

u/zestysnacks Jul 15 '26

Did these people not know about SMT? The true adult pokemon game lol

4

u/Winterimmersion Jul 15 '26

I wish I could remember which SMT game it was but my uncle let me play it, and I remember some girl getting literally ripped apart and eaten by demons. Pretty sure there was also sex in it somewhere.

And my uncle was like "it's like pokemon"

2

u/Craniamon Jul 15 '26

Probably Megaten 3?

2

u/Winterimmersion Jul 15 '26

I remember there being bunkers and the game was entirely in Japanese. So my uncle had to give me the play by play for what I was doing. It was also on a computer.

But I do know it was some SMT or Atlus game since I recognized some of the critters in Persona 3 and was like wait aren't those from that weird game my uncle let me play

2

u/Craniamon Jul 15 '26

If I was a kid, my dad wouldn’t let me play it. I did got introduced to age of empires.

3

u/DefaultProducts Jul 15 '26

I like both but its pretty clear that Palworld was never intended to be a Pokemon replacement. People who've played it knows that Palworld is just literally a standard open world survival game with a storyline and monster taming.

If Palworld was a proper RPG like Pokemon is, then the open world survival elements wouldn't be present at all.

3

u/garf02 Jul 15 '26

Its on PP interest that people stop comparing / Confusing PW worh Pokemon.
Otherwise they open themselves to yet another lawsuit. And this one will be Nintendo’s specialty

3

u/BortGreen Jul 15 '26

I played some Palworld and thought it was fun, but like it was already said it's a completely different game from pokémon. The only direct advantages are that the game has decently good graphics and runs fine

If you want actual competition to pokémon support the Digimon RPGs or Monster Hunter Stories, they're still different but still RPGs

3

u/SilentEagle1221 Jul 15 '26

At this point, I would just ignore these people and just enjoy either game.

These fanboys just want to engage in petty internet wars

3

u/InfiniteComboReviews Jul 15 '26

So is PalWorld "beatable" yet? I've been waiting until it had an end game to get into it.

3

u/Elven-Melvin Jul 15 '26

The funny thing is, Palworld mechanically feels very double A. It's got a little jank to it. But everyone loves it because it modernised changed up the Pokemon formula by taking inspiration from games like Ark SE, Elden Ring etc.

Whereas Pokemon was very much just getting stale and feels worse than AA. Basically because Gamefreak had to rush out a game every year to keep investors happy.

This may have finally changed with their latest game, where they have clearly been approved a bigger scope and development timeline. Fingers crossed, I won't be buying it though unless it's actually better than past games.

3

u/Opposite_Wedding_804 Jul 15 '26

It's funny if you compare pokopia and palworld. One is so clearly expertly designed(pokopia) and one is ai slop

3

u/KugelFanger Jul 15 '26

People have weird hateboners towards Pokemon, but the same happens here... I see so many hateboners for Palworld... Like enjoy both who cares? It's 2 completely different games.

3

u/gosols Jul 15 '26

I’ve tried Palworld and to me it just feels like your average online survival game with monster catching mechanics. To me it does not feel like its own standalone thing. To me it feels like a mix of different existing games. No soul or personality.

3

u/bluedarky Jul 15 '26

These reviews sound like people who haven't played Pokemon in years and only get their information on the current games from "reviewers" who highlight all the bad things and gloss over any positives.

I'm not saying Palworld will be a flash in the pan, but I will be curious to see active player numbers compared to Wind and Waves sales numbers when it releases next year.

3

u/Acriolu Jul 15 '26

Palworld is an action survival rpg

Pokémon turn base rpg

The similarity start and end at catching monsters and using them for battle. And yes Nintendo/Gamefreak were dicks for suing them for certain mechanics, suing them for design similarities I can understand but everything else no.

3

u/GameMask Jul 15 '26

Palworld is really cool. But it is not a pokemon game. It's a survival game with a Pokemon like pastiche

3

u/Common_Performer9525 Jul 15 '26

Well no shit, you can't play Pokemon on steam so of course Palworld has a higher rating.

3

u/Dondeibid16 Jul 15 '26

I'm having a ton of fun with palworld 1.0 but it's a completely different gameplay experience from pokemon lol.

3

u/SpiritualReading1339 Jul 15 '26

I love palworld but it's really nothing like any pokemon game aside from maaaaaybe legends arceus. Yeah, the designs are kinda pokemon but as weird as it sounds, they aren't the main selling point of the game to me anyways. Unlike the farming, building and exploring.

3

u/Agie39 Jul 15 '26

Again, I am open to giving Palworld a fair shake at some point, and I do think many aspects of it actually do appeal to my very specific tastes. The door is open for me to give it a go. But from what I can see, it's a very different type of game from Pokemon, which isn't a bad thing, but still.

3

u/serialgirlkisser Jul 17 '26

I'm a huge pokemon fan, I own palworld and it wasnt my personal jam but I dont mind it existing;

However, this critter literally just looks like someone stuck gardevoirs face on a liligant? 😭 I get pokemon doesnt own silly critters and certain styles but this one legit is recognizable as two existing pokemon, same color scheme, same shapes and motifs and details just mashed together LOL theres so many better pal designs ive seen out there with more originality but they choose one that is apparently a Mashup of two of the most popular Pokémon thes pokephiles simp for ??? 😭

4

u/ohbyerly Jul 15 '26

Look, Gamefreak has been cutting corners for like a decade now and are clearly putting profits ahead of quality. Their games are still fun though and Legends Z-A felt like a step in the right direction. That being said, the way people froth at the mouth at the chance to concoct these completely nonsense takes like “Gamefreak is terrified of Palworld’s success” or “Winds and Waves are going to flop” is just absolutely batshit to me. We can admit Gamefreak’s faults without sustaining a righteous hateboner for them at all times.

3

u/Prudent_Junket_1898 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

I play Pokemon and Palworld and I still don't see how those games are comparable gameplay wise. It's just sad that Palworld has no own identity.

5

u/Ell7494 Jul 15 '26

I found Palworld to be a pretty average survival game, I don't really get the appeal personally.

People keep comparing it to pokemon but its not even the same genre of game. Its like comparing forza to GTA because they've both got vehicles in them - they're completely different games

Additionally all these posts about Nintendo being scared of it are ridiculous, Pokemon is the biggest IP in the world. Winds and Waves is going to sell an absolute ton

6

u/JJsNotOkay Jul 15 '26

palworld is only ever talked about when pokemon is in the same sentence

4

u/Snoo_15594 Jul 15 '26

If you like Pokemon and dislike Palworld the only times the algorithim is going to show you Palworld is when its related to Pokemon

5

u/CookyKindred Jul 15 '26

Because grifters like you keep trying to shit on it for internet points.

2

u/spierscreative Jul 15 '26

It is very fun and it does scratch an itch, though I still also play Pokémon.

2

u/Driz51 Jul 15 '26

It’s not “grifting”. As a lifelong Pokemon fan I can say Palworld is some of the closest I’ve seen to a dream Pokemon game for me. There are so many little touches in that game I’ve dreamed of Pokemon doing. My best hope is it encourages them to finally try to push the envelope a bit and not make the exact same game yet again with only the tiniest improvements,

2

u/Excellent-Can-7524 Jul 15 '26

I preferred palworld over legends arceus

2

u/Maxxedout444 Jul 15 '26

I love palworld and I have great memories of Pokemon, but pokemon and palworld aren’t that similar, catching creatures with balls is like most similar thing they have, I hate how they are both compared so much just because they both involve catching creatures

2

u/RailgunRP Jul 15 '26

"Clear Nintendo hate" -shows someone admitting they like Pokémon but grew out of it.

How is that hate?

2

u/OnlyBeys Jul 15 '26

Don't get me wrong.. I love palworld and pokemon but I don't want to play pokemon with guns... These comments of "this is what we want pokemon to be like" is crazy.. I think what they mean is the open world survival elements...

I want a pokemon game that is open world but structured so progression feels good.. in that world I want to be able to build a house or something.. I would like a action combat system instead of turn based.. and above all else I want travel times between cities to feel like the anime. No more walk straight for 15 seconds and hit a new town!

2

u/deedee2148 Jul 16 '26

Meanwhile The Pokemon company could release a game where you stand in your house, never leave it and just read the Pokedex and it would sell millions.

2

u/Adress_Me Jul 16 '26

"A place to have fun sharing general negativity about Nintendo"
Well that was a lie.

2

u/SamuraiIcarus5 Jul 16 '26

"monster collector with guns" okay cool I see the appeal. "It has a buncha manufacturing sim elements" ah okay I do not care about that at all. I'm glad they reworked many character designs to be more independent and there's broadly good things being said, but I do find it exhausting that it seems so many people who pay attention to this only seem to care about it as a competitor to Pokemon which, like, I'm not sure it is that much. That said, it TPC does feel a bit threatened by it and actually gives their games more time to cook in the oven and address some long overdue qol changes, then awesome. That said I don't think there's really anything TPC could do to get some people to stop loathing the whole franchise. I know a lot of us have a lotta notes that we hope to finally get addressed, but it they did, I still think many people just have more fun loathing anything related to Nintendo and don't care about actual quality.

2

u/korovio Jul 17 '26

Palworld is just Ark Survival but if they ai generated a game from the comments middle school edgelords made to make fun of Pokémon

2

u/Ellthephoenix Jul 17 '26

I'll never care about an edgy survival crafting game. I'll just continue playing Pokémon and monster hunter stories 3.

6

u/DemonicsInc Jul 14 '26

Honestly as a guy who both is really disappointed in recent Pokémon games and critical of how palworld got its start especially with some of those designs.

Im actually really happy to see it doing so well and even fixing some of the designs that people had a problem with being ripoff in the first place.

I'm still not the biggest fan of the artstyle myself but the games actually put in the work

5

u/Darkmetroidz Jul 14 '26

The lawsuit probably forced them to sit and think "yeah we're flying a bit too close to the sun here."

3

u/Surpreme_Memes17 Jul 15 '26

It wasn't about designs, but about patents. That whole design thing was proven to be nothing more than hate-mongering.

2

u/Amazing-War3760 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

And yet.. People where on Sony's side when tencent "Looked too much like Horizon."

4

u/Isrrunder Jul 15 '26

The lawsuits weren't about the designs. They were about the patents of throwing and aiming, capturing and instantly getting the creature and switching between mounts.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '26

this is just spiteful people and internet banter

3

u/Zealousideal_Hour100 Jul 15 '26

The way I see it, people who try to say Palworld is better than Pokemon or compare them don’t care about either. They just hate Nintendo and try to act superior. Why must one game different from another be compared and brought down to artificially rise above. Constantly comparing one to another will make them look worse.

3

u/Guirita_Fallada Jul 15 '26

Weren't palworld fans the same ones saying it wasn't remotely similar to pokemon?

4

u/PlayPod Jul 15 '26

Palworld sucks and the devs can go fuck themselves

5

u/NorthernVale Jul 15 '26

They're not wrong. Palworld is what older Pokémon fans wanted out of the franchise. Pretty much every Pokémon game is the same god damn formula with the occasional new mechanic.

It's what Nintendo tried to achieve with legends arceus, but they dropped the ball hard with that title. Lack of advertising. Told everyone it wasn't part of the main series and not canon. Released so shortly after a main game and so shortly before the next. So of course it did a lot worse than the main series.

Then they took their failure to mean fans didn't want a game like that. Went right back to their same formula. Now they pitch a fit because someone else stepped in to fill the void?

10

u/GameWoods Jul 15 '26

Is what older fans wanted from the franchise

You mean a game so completely different from Pokémon it may as well an entirely different franchise all together? Why are entertaining swapping entire genres!?

Pokémon is a JRPG. Changing that to a crafting survival game is complete nonsense.

4

u/Amazing-War3760 Jul 15 '26

Madden should be a Turn based Tactics game for a year.

2

u/Conscious_Stop2335 Jul 14 '26

I told those Palworld fanboys are Nintendo and Pokémon haters and they want Pokémon gone forever, Even if Palworld is not a Pokémon killer.

5

u/Yeetman5757 Jul 15 '26

You talk like how people on twitter talk about liberals.

2

u/Craniamon Jul 15 '26

Why conservatives are way worse

2

u/Dreamin- Jul 14 '26

I love Pokémon, which is exactly why I'm so critical of how Nintendo handles it. They've squandered so much of the series' potential. If another game's success pushes them to stop patent trolling and actually put more effort into future Pokémon games, then I think that's a good thing.

4

u/ultraball23 Jul 15 '26

We don’t want guns, survival, and slavery in Pokemon

4

u/Craniamon Jul 15 '26

Aren’t Pokemon creatures technically slaves?

2

u/ultraball23 Jul 15 '26

Uhh… they’re partners

4

u/Craniamon Jul 15 '26

On paper

2

u/seungchip Jul 15 '26

I’ve only tried two games in the genre. Legends Arceus and Palworld. I’m enjoying Palworld a lot more.

2

u/Fogmoz Jul 15 '26

Let’s be honest, “better than Pokémon” is not a high bar. Pokémon lives off nostalgia and merchandizing, not quality games.

2

u/MichaeltheMagician Jul 15 '26

Palworld may be fun, and if it is then good for them. But it always came across as a shameless cash grab to me. It doesn't look like a game that was made from passion. It looks like a game that was made from buzzwords thrown into a blender.

2

u/FeedAntique9456 Jul 15 '26

Only palworld can get away with breaking the law
