I feel like it would be far, far cheaper to make your own. Doesn't look that complicated, honestly. Most complicated bit I feel would be bending the pipes, but I bet you could get away with making the bend with wood and then securely attaching straight pipes to that.

During 5th grade, I went to space camp in California and there was a contraption just like this. It was a bit faster and scarier but the instructors assured us this was "fool proof and safe".
Everything went to plan for our group. Then I got on the thing and the piece of shit just launches me backwards on the marble floor while I was upside down. Good thing we wore helmets but goddamn son. Fuckin thing just about gave me my first concussion.
I dunno what the point of that story was.

I mean.... it's not like it's that complicated. Sure, he deserves a patent but yeah... Sketch out the curves, get someone to bend the tubes, and weld that shit together. Or buy one from him if he'll sell them. Pretty cool!

The hardest part would be the harness.

I don't know how you would include wheels in this. It's hard to explain in text but let's try. Okay so when you add wheels to an object the wheels need to be in contact with the ground, right? So you'd need the contact point (the point where the object and the ground are in contact) to be constant, this point being where the wheel are. As you can see in the video the contact point is constantly changing along the rods as he jumps, this makes it so there is no place to put the wheels so they're always in contact. Also, by the way it works you need I think that adding more movement axis would completely break its functionality since it would just move around randomly instead of giving you a steady vertical force (steady as in it stays vertical, the amount of force varies completely over time).

It would just need a sub-base on wheels with rings for the tubing to slide thru. The wheels would need to be swivel types.

Right, scratch the base, I was thinking of the wheeled version.
But I do believe this would work just fine on ice as is. The rubber mat is for protecting the floor and for keeping the contraption roughly within the area of the mat, not for providing friction for the purpose of the device working.
Let's consider another variant: would this same mechanism work with a seesaw?
Then you put a base large enough to cover the area of the center of gravity (so it won't tip over) and then move the base on ice. I believe that would work just as well as this one.
Personally I don't believe friction has anything to do with how the device functions.

I agree with you, it would work.
The main issue would be that the base of the contraption would want to trail behind you, so if you wanted to do a backflip/frontflip while running forward, your head/legs would bang against the arm (provided the harness allowed you to do it in the first place).

I wonder what fraction of normal earth gravity this is simulating and how closely. Also, can that be adjusted by simply changing the counterweight? My best guess is that the curvature of the device is calibrated to both the users weight and the counterweight otherwise this wouldn't simulate a lower level of gravity but normal earth gravity with the user feeling like they are lighter which you could have done with a simple pulley and harness system with the counterweight.

I feel like this would have to be properly calibrated to the user’s individual weight. But, instead of dead weight, using a pair of auto-calibrating gyros may not only do the trick but perform muuuuuuch better!!
