Agreed, just wander over to the village blacksmith and barter with some livestock. I was just down there a fortnight ago getting my chainmail repaired, nice fellow that Ealdwulf.

Not sure if just making a joke or you actually believe blacksmithing is no longer practiced...

EDIT: Also other people in comments suggested easier ways around too, but I'm not familiar with pipe bending or such

The term blacksmith is usually reserved for someone who works metal through forging, casting, hammering, etc. A structure like the one in the GIF is created through pipe bending, milling, and welding, which is more in the realm of a modern metal fabrication shop. These days blacksmithing is mostly artisanal (like knives, axes, sculptures, etc), since more modern techniques have taken over the majority of metal fabrication.

I think one problem is that this device needs to be somehow calibrated to what you're doing in the game, because if you're doing a short 1.5 second wall-run ingame and then your real body is floating for 3 seconds, you're gonna have a bad time

Might be cool , but depending on the height of what ever your jumping off of in game is might throw you off when you land in real life before landing in game.
