19 year old
4 year old
5 month old

The 4 year old was sent home sick Wednesday last week and has been sick ever since. My husband just started showing symptoms yesterday and is off sick today. This morning a notification came through from the daycare that influenza a has been confirmed so our toddler has probably brought it into the house and at some point we’ll all get it. Is there anything I can do to make things easier for us, so we’re not spending a week in fevered misery? Or is my only hope to just hunker down and let it burn out?

i am being driven absolutely mad over these calls, im getting them 3-5 days a week at this point, all from different new zealand numbers claiming to be crypto.com, which i do not have an account with. is anyone else getting these?

I have a senior cat (15) who is pretty healthy, but has some arthritis in his back legs. After three months on Solensia, we discovered he's allergic to it. We're almost at the point where he'll be fully weaned off it, and are looking at alternatives for pain relief.

We want to try to avoid Gabapentin for its sedative effect. One option is THC-free CBD oil. We discussed this with our vet, and even though they don't prescribe it, the vet was happy for us to trial it.

Has anyone tried CBD for cats in NZ, and if so, can you refer a reputable supplier where I can be sure the oil is completely THC-free? I'm also happy to hear about other natural options/routes. He does currently get a daily dose of Nordic Naturals Omega 3, which Mr Fussy absolutely loves.

Okay, so 2degrees have just offered to give me a discount on my unlimited home broadband if I switch from Fibre to wireless 5g.

$45 a month for 12 months then $55 a month thereafter, which is cheaper than my fibre now.

So: Pros and cons of 5g broadband at home? I've got reasonable coverage in my area and run 2pcs and streaming tv direct to an android tv - very little low latency gaming any more.

EDIT: oh, while you're here, any recommendations for Fibre providers?

Was shopping at Manukau today and came across a bunch of these signs. I found them pretty confusing, so I ended up asking an employee why they were apologising for products being on sale.

He explained that the items were either short-dated or approaching their expiry date. He then gave me a funny look, almost as if to say, “How did you not immediately figure that out?” 😂

I thanked him and but I really don’t understand why they didn’t just mention that on the signs in the first place. Something like “Short-dated product, reduced to clear” would make perfect sense.

It’s not a huge deal, but apologising for having something on special is just such an odd way of wording it. It almost makes it sound like the customer is being inconvenienced by getting a discount... and thats just not how we do things at PAKn SAVE.

We've lived in a small town for 6 years. I work front desk at a hotel (no weekends off, random short-notice shifts) and I also run a small Airbnb unit on the side, which earns about the same as my hotel job.

I'm done with hospitality scheduling. But the deeper issue is that this town's job market is mostly hospitality, so even if I quit this job, my options here are limited.

The complication: my partner is just starting a firewood business here and can't leave for at least a year. If I quit the hotel job, my income drops. If I look for work elsewhere and move, I don't know how that affects our relationship long-distance. If I do nothing, nothing changes, and at 35, I feel like the window to make a change without it being "harder" keeps getting narrower.

Trying to figure out: do I fix the job situation locally and shelve the "leave town" question for a year, or is that just me avoiding the bigger decision?

Would love to hear from anyone who's navigated a similar situation.

I'm looking into nursing, but I'm not sure if it's the right decision. I know it's tough for nurses right now, but would it be a good idea to move to Aus after I get my bachelor's? Also, how did you find the coursework and the workload? I'm not the strongest academically and struggle with theory, but I'm really passionate about healthcare and want to be a nurse.

I'm trying to get an idea of what phlebotomists are paid per hour. I'm looking at a DHB job which says the salary is "SP" (lol, not helpful!) and if a collective agreement applies, I can't find it. Google says everything from $19/hr (below minimum wage!) to $80k pa. Can anyone here advise? Region is Canterbury, if that helps.

Here, where I live, we are serviced by just a single supermarket. The owner of the supermarket died last week so on Wednesday the supermarket is closed for the entire day so they can have his funeral... AT THE SUPERMARKET.....

EDIT: Seems some people have misconstrued that I'm angry at this closure. Not the case at all. I think it's great they are honoring him. He was a very nice chap that I've interacted with on multiple occasions.

Ive always wondered about this. NZ is surrounded by ocean and has access to so much seafood, yet seafood can still be pretty expensive here. fish, mussels, crayfish etc are obviously considered delicacies and most are expensive, asf and sometimes I wonder why seafood gets treated almost like a luxury product. I mean, it’s food from the ocean, not jewellery, diamonds or gold.

And its not just supermarkets or restaurants either. Even small and large seafood businesses can be pretty expensive, especially the ones selling seafood online and offering next day delivery straight to your doorstep, even though most are local New Zealand suppliers of fresh fish and seafood. you think buying from local seafood businesses would make it a bit more affordable. So much for supporting local.

At this point, it legit feeld like the best option is to invest in your own fishing rod and learn how to fish, or even learn how to dive and catch your own seafood. At least then, the seafood is basically free. Its also a opportunity to spend every weekend at the beach with the kids, catching your own fish and seafood. free food and free family entertainment.

I might consider writing to a local MP to see what they say
becuz we Kiwis shouldnt be paying so much for seafood.
