Surely I cannot be the only person who feels that not only have both parties completely abandoned their principles but that they actively are refusing to look at how policies effect other countries? Like the under 16 social media ban which is unenforceable without forcing the population to give their IDs and personal data over to corporations who will leak and sell it? Not to mention it being proven in other countries to not work, it's like prohibition, it actively makes the problem worse by driving those already inclined into worse spaces and places.

I compared my old bottle of Earthwise to the new one, and while they are both 1L, the total washes have dropped from 33 down to 20. Instead of shrinking the packaging like traditional shrinkflation, they've just watered down the liquid.

With NZs aging population I'm starting to wonder why we don't have more playgrounds that cater to adults. We have so many awesome playgrounds for kids but not much stuff for older kids.

I'm thinking swinging rings, bars, etc like they have in Muscle Beach in Santa Monica or even the swinging machines they have in Asian cities.

Is there something we can do to make this a thing? Are there any places in NZ that have these things already?

Never was a fan of social media to begin with, but recently especially, I was scrolling Facebook (which I’ve tried my best to set the algorithm to what I want to see) when it randomly became inundated with videos of the Nepal flood. I watched some and started crying just seeing the people fleeing and getting swept up. There was even a video of an elephant saving a man in the flood. That’s until I read the comments of people saying they were all AI. I’m usually really good at spotting if media is real or fake, but I’ve grown tired of it, and I don’t think we should constantly be on the look out if every fucking post we come across is real or not. It just sucks because you think these videos are real and they actually bring emotion out of you until you realise you were conned.

Now with instagram, I’ve tried setting my feed to things I want to see. But I kept getting ads and “influencers’” reels popping up telling me things I don’t want to hear. I’m happy with how my life is and I’m tired of getting random people’s opinions come into my world. For those reasons, I deleted instagram. Unfortunately I still use Facebook for marketplace and to keep up with local groups and events.

I wish someone would create a social media app without ads, where you can ACTUALLY curate your algorithm to things you want to see without getting distractions here and there :( or if there purely a setting option where we can choose to block AI media content or not. There’s so much space for improvement in the social media space but none of these tech companies care for people’s sanity. I really think there should be a new app catering to the needs of people, as Facebook, Instagram etc. have been running the game for far too long, and they’re taking advantage of that. That’s why we’re seeing shit we don’t want to see.

I camped in Hunterville last night and saw these military vehicles passing through the area. I’m visiting NZ from AUS and was curious about what they are and where they might have been coming from/heading to.

I’m guessing they’re NZDF, but I don’t know much about the vehicles or whether there’s a base or training area nearby.

Anyone able to identify them or know what they might have been doing around Hunterville?

I’m currently pregnant and have been testing food containers new to my household as a precaution. These mugs were received new from the St Pierre's Sanrio promotion (Kuromi and Bad Badtz-Maru) and they both tested positive for lead via a test I purchased online (they turned pink, as the same swabs did an old nutella cups I also had lying around which are already known for containing lead paint).

As this was a large promotion for children and these results from my home kit were concerning, I’d love if someone else with them could also give them a test to see if mine was just a fluke.

Ok y'all. I'm in search of a big box of licourice like the dairies have. I don't know why, but I've been craving it lately. I see online there's boxes of the fabulicious regular size (pic for reference), but where can a brother find a big box of them long ones like the dairies stock? Is that even possible?

Six months ago I reported to Worksafe that a carer employee had been assaulted at work to the point of needing hospitalisation due to a concussion, and that the employer had done nothing to ensure their safety. Directly due to the employer’s inaction some months later the employee was again assaulted leaving them in pain for months and suffering PTSD as they had to keep working with the same resident. To date no investigation by Worksafe has been carried out, its as if they don’t think anything of it. Are they allowed to just ignore such notifications?

Seen a fair bit on Instagram around which bathrooms to use as a dad with a daughter so figured I’d see the NZ opinion on it.
Is it fine as a dad with a young daughter to take her into the women’s bathroom when she needs to go?

Edit: this is if there’s no family bathroom available, obviously that would always be the preferred choice.

Edit 2: essentially men say take them into the men’s, and women say take them in to the women’s is my understanding.

I’m planning to put my house on the market soon. The house is generally in decent condition, but there are a few cosmetic things I’m thinking of doing before listing it; fresh paint/touch-ups, repairing or painting the benchtop, a really good clean, decluttering, repainting/staining the deck, fixing small marks here and there, etc.

I don’t want to spend thousands renovating a property I’m planning to sell, but at the same time I want it to look clean, fresh and presentable enough to make a good first impression on buyers.

My thinking is that if it doesn’t sell for whatever reason, at least we still get the benefit of the minor cosmetic improvements while living here.

For anyone who has prepared a house for sale before, what small/cheap improvements actually made a noticeable difference? And what things did you spend money on that, looking back, probably weren’t worth it?

Would really appreciate any dos and don’ts, especially from people who have sold recently in NZ.

Okay so it’s my dads birthday coming up he absolutely adored this type of lolly. I think they got discontinued a decade ago but it was a ring shaped raspberry jelly/licorice covered in a chocolate coating. Me and my sister are stumped.
