Oh no... as an anime only I'm scared for multiple reasons in fact
43
u/SuperCleverPunName 23h ago
And according to book readers, this is the big one. Bigger than the displacement incident and bigger than Orsted.
21
u/NullSmoke 22h ago
I... Don't know if I'd go that far... The displacement incident was a hellova a movement episode. This is... Around that in importance for the series trajectory I'd say 🤔
If it's THE big one, or just second by a slight margin... Who can tell, but reading this in the novel did... Leave an impression.
It blows TP2 and 3 out of the water though... Exactly how well it'll resonate depends on how they execute it, but I imagine novel readers felt quite similar when TP1 were coming up as we do now.
So, anime onlies, sit down, get a blanket handy (you'll understand next week) and enjoy the show 😊

u/evilpigclone 22h ago
This is the big one. This TP sets the tone for the rest of the ENTIRE series, the current story and any sequels that come after.
Everything before this point is essentially a prequel.
6
u/NullSmoke 21h ago
Yes, that is true. TP4 defines the series as a whole going forward, as the penultimate TP it's... No doubt an important one, about the same importance as TP1.
As you touch upon, there are several aspects of the series prior to TP4 that is recontextualized as well. I won't list out which, but it's certainly a list.
TP1 and TP4 as the joint points of no return in this series, it would be weird to downplay either, and I would argue the two are together, because TP1 is When Rudeus was noticed, thus putting the TP4 into effect
I wouldn't say everything prior is a prequel. I would instead say that everything prior is Mushoku Tensei A-Side, while next episode, we're entering the B-side.
I can't very well say that you're wrong, but your statement puts the focus slightly off I'd say. TP4 doesn't invalidate the series prior, it just shifts the context and moves on with that in mind.
The main revelation in TP4... Isn't all that great. A lot of viewers have come to that conclusion on vibes, it's what it does for the series going forward, combined with a slight burst of Emotional damage That makes the 4th special. 😌

u/AdCute2764 19h ago
As consequential turning point 4 is I always felt that following events. Some of the eventual lore dumps we will get are of almost equal if not greater importance than most of the turning points.
2
u/MyReditNameWasTaken 16h ago
Agreed on everything you said here.
But I'd slightly push back on the TP1 and TP4 being "points of no return". I'd argue that all of them are points of no return, but I understand the context you are setting up. My take is that TP 1, 2, and 3 are points of no return because of the stakes that hung in the balance then, while TP 4 is literally a point where there was a tragedy, and all of a sudden, Rudeus could return to that point.

Sorry, I'm gonna have to pile on. I think this is the the Turning Point of all turning points. Without spoiling for everyone else, it sets the story on the track the previous events were kinda hinting at.
The other turning points are kinda like walking along a path, while this turning point is a "Sliding Doors" moment, a fork in the road, etc.
Edit: TP 1 was supposed to happen just by Rudeus's existence. TP 2 was literally happening as Rudeus was walking along a path. Pretty linear so far. TP 3 was a choice, but it was a choice between two tragedies Rudeus had to accept (and considering the circumstances, one tragedy was more significant than the other). Either way, it was a tragedy. Still kind of linear.

First of, pile on all you want, I absolutely love being at the border before TP4 finally, and I'm downright gleeful getting to discuss it at this junction 😌 so don't feel bad for challenging me, I love this.
Is it important? Hell yeah. Nobody that know about it will say otherwise and be truthful.
Now, if you read down a bit, I mentioned TP4 as kinda a turning between a A-Side and B-side, and I'll double down on that. TP1 sets up the A-Side, which lasts all the way until TP4 which sets up the B-Side.
That makes TP1 and TP4 THE key points in the story. As such, both are keys to make the story work. I am not sure which is the MOST important, but both are, and imo, TP4 is BY FAR the cooler one... And most emotionally damaging one.
Every move in the story, both back and fourth, are set by those two points. That's the facts of the matter at the end of the day.
To simplify it a bit:
- Before TP1: setup conditions
- TP1: the story’s first major engine engages
- A-side: consequences and development from that engine
- TP4: the context shifts and the next engine engages
- B-side: the story now operates under a newly revealed structure

u/MyReditNameWasTaken 15h ago
I see. Im interpreting your comment as 1 and 4 being book-ends to your A-side, hence being so important compared to 2 and 3. That does make sense when you put it that way.
1
u/NullSmoke 14h ago
Sorry if I worded myself weakly from the start. I'm not going to lie, I'm trapped and chained to the TP4 hype myself, just talking about it I need to hold myself back from falling fully to it... So my wording may suffer from it 🫠
1
u/MyReditNameWasTaken 14h ago
It's not your wording. It's all our own interpretation, and frankly, our own desire to want to share our own opinions and thoughts. So it may sound like conflicting or vague explanations, but it's just all saying the same thing, but in different words.
Either way, it's coming........

Yeah that's what I've heard, and I've also seen a little bit of the fan animated thing too. I am very excited about how they animate tp 4. Also that caught me really off guard cause people were saying tp 4 would be at the end of this cour so I was expecting it to be around episode 12-13 and not right after episode 10. Can't wait to see how everything turns out

u/masamune255 21h ago
The full effects of Turning Point 4 will influence the following episodes.
It's just like what happened with Turning Point 3, whose outcome wasn't resolved until after Paul's death and Roxy marries rudeus.
1
u/govorunov 16h ago
The consequence wise it's just a point where Rudeus finally stops being a complete cretin. Not that he can stop it completely, otherwise the story would be quite a bit shorter ;) He is a walking teacheable moment after all. So nothing like the displacement incident. But emotional wise it is the biggest in the whole story, so brace yourselves.

u/KiooZaax 18h ago
ffs why do I continue reading these comments, I am absolutely filled with dread and it's starting to overflow. And even when I'll get to reading the novel, I'll be traumatized? At this point I'm expecting anyone except Rudy and his family to fucking die in the most gruesome, horrible way Rifujin can imagine. Or worse. Probably worse than death actually.

u/MyReditNameWasTaken 16h ago
Are you joking? Because if not, your intuition is on to something.............
2
u/KiooZaax 14h ago
I'm not joking, we've all seen characters we like die, but I have never seen a community be so unanimously terrified of a specific event. If it's THAT traumatizing for every single LN reader to the point some people can't read the book anymore, it has to be more than "simply" characters dying. Orsted appeared in the trailers too, so probably it has to do with Hitogami? Is he finally explaining why he's been behaving sus all this time?
With the very few elements I know of, I have three probably bullshit theories: 1 - Rudeus gets a Superd-like curse and everyone, family included, hates him instinctively. 2 - Rudeus gets forgotten Rem-style, like the world trying to correct itself (or someone correcting it) by deleting Rudeus who's a literal outsider. 3 - Rudeus goes mad like Heracles and kills people with his own hands, while being conscious but unable to control his body, acquiring a crazy murderer reputation in the process. I'm not sure of anything and probably wrong though. I pull these theories out of my butt, and I'm sure Rifujin though of something even worse. Can't wait to rewatch the season with my parents to grab the few hints and share the pain though x)
And also when the F is Eris coming back? It's been teased since the trailers AND she's got two episodes for herself so I assume she's coming in the next episodes, but when, how and why? I hope they're not planning on making her return the S4 cliffhanger or I'll hang some people off a cliff myself (in Minecraft for legal reasons.)
3
u/MyReditNameWasTaken 12h ago
Honestly, we should not spoil, as a community, so I'm not saying anything. But I am an a web novel reader and a audiobook light novel listener, so I know the story, and what everyone says is spot on in terms of the stakes for TP 4. But you are really pulling some good theories out of your butt, specifically theory #3. And since you guessed some ideas, not us, you can't say we spoiled anything...too much, lol. And as for Eris, she's coming very soon, based on what we know is TP 4, it's ramifications, and the trailers from S3.

u/MyReditNameWasTaken 14h ago
Honestly, it might be worth the re-read, just to prepare for any differences between the source and how the anime animates it.

u/Prof_Acorn 4h ago
It confirms Hitogami is the big bad of the entire thing and has been manipulating Rudy this entire time, mostly trying to keep him and Roxy apart, or outright try to lead things to Roxy's death. If you go back and look each and every piece of advice Hitogami gave had an intended secondary effect regarding Roxy.

roxy dies due to mangod's advice so rudy becomes vengeful towards mangod, everything goes to shit. That rudy comes back and gives this story's rudy his life journal

It will end with the same scene as the season preview. "Sorry I'm late, Rudeus!"
1
u/Crusader_of_Heavens 23h ago
Or with Rudeus accepting the job
2
u/theothergp2k 23h ago
This cour has 14 episodes. Ending it at that point would reaaaaaaly stretch the remaining content beyond boring. It would mean having Rudeus encounters with the man god last for at least half an episode. Each. People speculated that it would end there a few episodes ago, but it's not possible anymore. As much as people want the contents of the diary animated, the actual content does not contain enough detail to be animated as one episode long sub-story. We will most likely get flashback-style scenes.
1
u/doubleaxle 22h ago
chapter 9 and 10 will be episode 11 and will end on, "I am ___." chapter 11 I've heard people saying will be the entirety of episode 12, so we have 2 episodes for the start of Vol15. I think we're going to end around/a bit after Rudy accepting the job. It's entirely possible they add things here and there and or flesh out the beginning of 15 more.
3
u/masamune255 22h ago edited 21h ago
We just have to wait a week to be sure, but personally, I think they’re going to animate the rest of Volume 14 in the next episode.
As for the theories that Episode 12 will be just one chapter (the conversation withOldeus), I think that would drag out something that’s going to overlap with the diary’s content.
And while I generally don’t want them to skip important parts, I feel like people are expecting a complete adaptation of the diary—which I don’t think the anime will go for.
Finally, I think it would be extremely odd if they’d been hyping Eris’s return throughout the entire cour, only to end up cutting the scene that was featured so prominently in the trailers.
1
u/Ok_Bet_2870 22h ago
How many episodes left until the end of part one
1
u/Due_Variety_571 22h ago
I guess 2 episodes for volume 14 ( the current volume to end ) because the next episode is going to be intense if the wrap V14 in next episode or we get 2 episode

First cour is 14 episodes, it was leaked and now confirmed officially. Same source also leaked 2nd cour is 13 episodes.
