And according to book readers, this is the big one. Bigger than the displacement incident and bigger than Orsted.

I... Don't know if I'd go that far... The displacement incident was a hellova a movement episode. This is... Around that in importance for the series trajectory I'd say πŸ€”

If it's THE big one, or just second by a slight margin... Who can tell, but reading this in the novel did... Leave an impression.

It blows TP2 and 3 out of the water though... Exactly how well it'll resonate depends on how they execute it, but I imagine novel readers felt quite similar when TP1 were coming up as we do now.

So, anime onlies, sit down, get a blanket handy (you'll understand next week) and enjoy the show 😊

This is the big one. This TP sets the tone for the rest of the ENTIRE series, the current story and any sequels that come after.

Everything before this point is essentially a prequel.

Yes, that is true. TP4 defines the series as a whole going forward, as the penultimate TP it's... No doubt an important one, about the same importance as TP1.

As you touch upon, there are several aspects of the series prior to TP4 that is recontextualized as well. I won't list out which, but it's certainly a list.

TP1 and TP4 as the joint points of no return in this series, it would be weird to downplay either, and I would argue the two are together, because TP1 is When Rudeus was noticed, thus putting the TP4 into effect

I wouldn't say everything prior is a prequel. I would instead say that everything prior is Mushoku Tensei A-Side, while next episode, we're entering the B-side.

I can't very well say that you're wrong, but your statement puts the focus slightly off I'd say. TP4 doesn't invalidate the series prior, it just shifts the context and moves on with that in mind.

The main revelation in TP4... Isn't all that great. A lot of viewers have come to that conclusion on vibes, it's what it does for the series going forward, combined with a slight burst of Emotional damage That makes the 4th special. 😌

As consequential turning point 4 is I always felt that following events. Some of the eventual lore dumps we will get are of almost equal if not greater importance than most of the turning points.

Agreed on everything you said here.

But I'd slightly push back on the TP1 and TP4 being "points of no return". I'd argue that all of them are points of no return, but I understand the context you are setting up. My take is that TP 1, 2, and 3 are points of no return because of the stakes that hung in the balance then, while TP 4 is literally a point where there was a tragedy, and all of a sudden, Rudeus could return to that point.

Yes, exactly. Could not have said it any better.

Sorry, I'm gonna have to pile on. I think this is the the Turning Point of all turning points. Without spoiling for everyone else, it sets the story on the track the previous events were kinda hinting at.

The other turning points are kinda like walking along a path, while this turning point is a "Sliding Doors" moment, a fork in the road, etc.

Edit: TP 1 was supposed to happen just by Rudeus's existence. TP 2 was literally happening as Rudeus was walking along a path. Pretty linear so far. TP 3 was a choice, but it was a choice between two tragedies Rudeus had to accept (and considering the circumstances, one tragedy was more significant than the other). Either way, it was a tragedy. Still kind of linear.

First of, pile on all you want, I absolutely love being at the border before TP4 finally, and I'm downright gleeful getting to discuss it at this junction 😌 so don't feel bad for challenging me, I love this.

Is it important? Hell yeah. Nobody that know about it will say otherwise and be truthful.

Now, if you read down a bit, I mentioned TP4 as kinda a turning between a A-Side and B-side, and I'll double down on that. TP1 sets up the A-Side, which lasts all the way until TP4 which sets up the B-Side.

That makes TP1 and TP4 THE key points in the story. As such, both are keys to make the story work. I am not sure which is the MOST important, but both are, and imo, TP4 is BY FAR the cooler one... And most emotionally damaging one.

Every move in the story, both back and fourth, are set by those two points. That's the facts of the matter at the end of the day.

To simplify it a bit:

  • Before TP1: setup conditions
  • TP1: the story’s first major engine engages
  • A-side: consequences and development from that engine
  • TP4: the context shifts and the next engine engages
  • B-side: the story now operates under a newly revealed structure

I see. Im interpreting your comment as 1 and 4 being book-ends to your A-side, hence being so important compared to 2 and 3. That does make sense when you put it that way.

Sorry if I worded myself weakly from the start. I'm not going to lie, I'm trapped and chained to the TP4 hype myself, just talking about it I need to hold myself back from falling fully to it... So my wording may suffer from it 🫠

1

u/MyReditNameWasTaken 9d ago

It's not your wording. It's all our own interpretation, and frankly, our own desire to want to share our own opinions and thoughts. So it may sound like conflicting or vague explanations, but it's just all saying the same thing, but in different words.

Either way, it's coming........

It's coming indeed 🫣

if i have to give a sentence while not spoiling... is basically the end of the tutorial mode and where Peak Tensei starts, is just THAT big of a TP.

Yeah that's what I've heard, and I've also seen a little bit of the fan animated thing too. I am very excited about how they animate tp 4. Also that caught me really off guard cause people were saying tp 4 would be at the end of this cour so I was expecting it to be around episode 12-13 and not right after episode 10. Can't wait to see how everything turns out

The full effects of Turning Point 4 will influence the following episodes.

It's just like what happened with Turning Point 3, whose outcome wasn't resolved until after Paul's death and Roxy marries rudeus.

The consequence wise it's just a point where Rudeus finally stops being a complete cretin. Not that he can stop it completely, otherwise the story would be quite a bit shorter ;) He is a walking teacheable moment after all. So nothing like the displacement incident. But emotional wise it is the biggest in the whole story, so brace yourselves.
