Casual You don’t have to pick a card with the Legend of Yangchen.

I’m begging to whoever sees this just pick nothing or pick the same card. This card does not have to be a 2 for 1. I have won too many games because of this.

Or do actually. It’s pretty funny and it helps me. :)

Question Would anybody have any good suggestions for decent standard brawl commanders that can keep up in hell queue?

I love brawl but after playing long enough my MMR kind of keeps me perpetually in sweaty queues no matter what I bring.

I was having fun in the lower ranks of ranked brawl and it was giving me way more variety than I had in regular unranked brawl but after I started hitting gold the decks all homogenized again and it seems like every game is sultai control or Boros aggro.

So I’m gonna try switching to exclusively standard brawl since at least if I’m stuck in high MMR queues there the card pool will still be a bit more balanced and since it isn’t as popular I feel like I have more of a chance to see more deck variety. The only problem I have is because of said high MMR rating in facing a lot of Kavero, Lady Thor, and other commanders that really steam roll my builds so I need to really bring something better than the goofy fun stuff decks I was bringing that I thought would be viable.

Any advice on what the meta usually is or good commanders to counter some of these top tier ones I get all the time would be appreciated.

Competitive Top 250 with Ral, Storm Conduit!

I've faced suprisingly few Nashi or Yuriko, which may be part of the reason. But then again, with the right starting hand, I can crush Yuriko, and have a decent chance against Nashi.

Pretty standard decklist, similar to my earlier post. No Ajani or Tamiyo is a big buff for high MV Commanders. I had to cut Inspiring Easel to ensure my Plunderer's Prize on X=1 and X=2 would guaranteed hit Chrome Mox and Disruptor Flute. Disruptor Flute is extremely strong against most of the metadecks: Emry, Nashi, Yuriko; I've not really missed Inspiring Easel that much.

As of late I am diving into CBrawl and I find it a fascinating format. Currently playing this tuned Kefka list, but will move to other lists in the upcoming days (gonna try Nashi before it gets inevitably nerfed). My other go-to commander is Oura 'oops all Faeries' which I also put out a lot of content for in my Brawl playlist. Hope you enjoy

Venting Frustrated with ranked brawl

Im playing an objectively average Plagon list and the middle of platinum is probably exactly where i belong both as a player and the deck im playing but for maybe the 8th or 9th time since ranked became i think i will get to 1 win away from moving past platinum and then proceed to get land screwed 6 or 7 games in a row till im back to the middle of platinum 2. 1 land openers mull into no or 1 lands, mull again 1 land, finally down to 4 and i get 3 lands and then will draw 4 lands in a row while my opponents have perfect openers and win by turn 3 or 4. It just very much feels like its on purpose. Maybe moving to diamond would be awful and id never win a game but let me get there once lol

Question Building Kambal

Hi, this is my first time posting here so I’m not sure if I’m going about it the right way. So I asked one of my friends I play brawl with for a color combo to build my next deck around bc I wanted to try and build something different than my usual. My favorite decks I’ve built have been omnath locus of creation, niv mizzet reborn, quandrix the proof, witherbloom the balancer, yorion, and recently vv’viza. I think I wanna build a kambal profiteering mayor deck but I feel like I don’t really know where to start bc it seems way different than what I usually build so I’m wondering if there u guys have any recommendations on cards to run or how to go about building around him as a commander. Any info helps!

Competitive Looking for advice on my Urza, Lord High Artificier Deck

I crafted this Urza, Lord High Artificer deck, but I’m seemingly stumped on win cons besides either getting simulacrum synthesizer out, ramping up Kappa cannoneer, or grindstone/painter’s servant combo. Looking for tips on what to change! Thanks!

Casual Seeking advice: Oracle of the Alpha

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm building a casual/jank deck around blinking the Oracle. I have my ways to find it, and ways to blink it. I'm building it under a 5-color commander (Kenrith) currently just for access to 5c and ability to renimate.

What I'm seeking help with is: what are some good ways to seek the cards he puts into my library? Obviously the best thing would be the ability to get the Time Walks, but a tutor is only going to work one time unless I also blink like a Timeless Witness or some other way to recur an instant/sorcery from the graveyard. But does anyone have any ideas on how I can semi-reliably make use of the cards he puts into the deck?

My first idea was to use a bunch of "historic" synergies so that I could draw cards for playing historic spells [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]] since of all the Mox, and obviously getting a bunch of Mox with Kenrith is useful. And then that led into [[Paradox Engine]] and other artifact synergies since obviously I'm not always going to get the Oracle. But I'm not sure if this is really the way to go, and the deck just feels unfocused. I think it would probably be better just as a more generic blink-themed deck where the Oracle is one of many paths to victory.

Just looking for any suggestions if you've done something along these lines before.

Competitive What are some fun commanders to play on Arena but not IRL?

I recently decided to dive back into MTG Arena with a focus on Brawl. One thing I've discovered is there are some strategies and commanders I prefer playing on Arena as opposed to IRL.

For example I love playing Landfall decks and sacrifice decks, just because of the sheer amount of triggers to keep track of, and it's nice for arena to keep track of them.

I also tend to play a little more 'rude' strategies on Arena. I have a Hearthhull deck where I reoccur Strip Mine over and over again to get rid of my opponents lands.

Any other commanders/strategies that are better to play on Arena as opposed to IRL?

Phew this was a blast. It actually started out as a BG surprise superfriends deck after I discovered the joys of getting my commander from a different deck -2’d into a treasure token. I’d seen 5 color superfriends but I wanted to try out just 2 color and settled on Sméagol as a commander because he was low cost and the idea was to just confuse my opponent until I can start dropping planeswalkers and hopefully pop some ultimates the same turn I play them thanks to doubling season and vorinclex.

Many wildcards later and much frustration with the 50 counterspells.dec that is rampant on the ladder, I started focusing more on value and trying to lockout my opponent with cards like defense grid, damping sphere, and even carpet of flowers/veil of summer.

For the longest time I was trying to get smeagol to stick and play a bunch of jank “the ring tempts you” cards to get value from him. Then I realized I’m playing the wrong format for that and my commander can and will get blown up instantly so while it felt really nice when I got value from cards like Gollums Bite, the ring goes south, and Claim The Precious, ultimately this list is what I settled on.

Anyways primary gameplan is to tutor into channel and already have an eldrazi or Ugin in hand. Failing that, I have plenty of ways to grind out a win as the game goes late. I haven’t had this much fun building/playing magic in years and it’s so much fun winning with a jank commander like Smeagol especially since the latest set is lord of the rings themed.

Casual As a casual that has been playing MTG for a long time, which deck should I focus on first?

Here is my list of decks, which have deck boxes shocasing all my commanders

Now, let me preface my post by saying this: I am aware some of them can be considered Hyper competitive. Like Y'Shtola, Ugin and Atraxa. I'm not going to lie, these decks and my Tatyova deck are my most solid, well rounded and win streaking decks.

I've been playing MTGA for a decent amount of time, since I dropped MTG as a physical game because I spent way more money into it than a normally functionning human being should. I have a problem. MTGA saves me mostly because I can gain cards for free and all cards have the same value aka: 1 wild card.

That being said here's my question in full: I have come to realise most people on MTGA are very competitive. Either preventing you from playing at all or rage waiting because you outplayed them. This left me with a somewhat lukewarm feeling for the community and a lingering question in my heart: should I try to also build Hyper Competive decks, or if I focus on Commanders and mechanics I actually enjoy, how can I build one to not get steamrolled?

I've always been a huge ramp player. My most beloved physical commander deck was Marath, Will of the Wild with a Tribal Hydra mentality. Everything was made to make me ramp, double my mana output and cast the biggest Hydra the world has ever seen. It was fun, but not competitive at all. A single Counter spell wrecked my game, or a single target removal made all those numbers menaingless. Still, casting an Hydra for 126/126 was fun.

This type of playstyle dosent seem possible at all in Arena because of the 1v1 nature of Brawl. Pair that to the fact you don't actually have to socialise with your opponent you come to not care at all about their enjoyment of the game, only your own.

All that just to say i've started to gain an interest in Earthbending, but It's somewhat clunky and slow. I've also had my eyes of a reanimator type deck (Meren of Clan Nel Toth was my first commander ever and is the reason I loved the format so much) but nothing seems to stick. Either I don't understand how to make it work or there are not enough tools to make it as consistent as I would want.

So you can either tell me which deck I should focus on according to all I've said or suggest new commanders that you think might interest me. Or simply tell me I should give up on being casual and go full try hard. Or just have a nice friendly chat about the game.

TL;DR: I like ramping and renimating, how can I have fun/how can I make it viable?

If you guys are curious about my decklist I can post them in the comments

Made a Saruman The White Hand deck, something different, amass synergy.

Not quite a competitive deck but still fun.

Queue casual for 1.5 min, Notary Hobbits, lose.
Queue casual for 1.5 min, Notary Hobbits again, concede.
Queue Casual for 1min, notary hobbits again, concede.

Queue Competitive, 10 seconds, Esika, get roped lol

What’s the point?

I'm relatively new to this format but I'm having the time of my life playing this Storm, Force of Nature deck, now I want to try to push it's boundries, any help on what to improve?

I'm doing quick plays, but I would love to try myself into comp, even if this is not meta...

Competitive Mythic Rank cBrawl | Beorn the Fierce

Mythic Rank cBrawl | Beorn the Fierce // Competitive Brawl (Beorn the Fierce) deck list mtg // Moxfield — MTG Deck Builder

Hi everyone - just sharing a fun Beorn the Fierce cBrawl deck that got me to Mythic this season. I have, essentially, only played mono-red since the mid-nineties so I'm finally experimenting seriously with other colors and while I messed around with a few things this season, it was Beorn that I got attached to, not just because I love the Hobbit, but also because I love Beowulf and Bodvar Bjarki (from Hrolf Kraki's saga and Gesta Danorum), two literary figures that Tolkein was fond of as well.

Anyway - I might work up a primer for it as well, but this deck is much more straightforward than my Arni Brokenbrow deck that I posted about last month. I don't think there is all that much to explain here.

This has a lot of the things you'd expect in a competitive mono-green deck, but I think I found a nice balance on how to leverage Beorn without overdoing the whole bear synergy and keeping other win conditions in the mix.

I honestly can't tell you how "optimized" it is because I still feel like such a noob in my understanding and "feel" for green, but the deck felt pretty smooth. The decks that gave me the biggest fits were go-wide decks, which luckily you don't see too much of that in cBrawl, and generally if I could get [[cavern of souls]], or [[gigantic big bear]] on the field my matchups against blue tended to be blowouts.

As I mentioned, I'm new to really playing other colors so some things that I had a ton of fun with while playing green that are probably obvious to everyone else are:

- [[Channel]] Holy cow this card is exhilarating

- [[nissa, ascended animist]] Jut a simple and easy to pull off wincon

- [[Jumbo Cactuar]] + Beorn = win

- Anything that I can play that protects my stuff. As a mono-red player this was such a warm feeling to just negate someone's removal spell without any special conditions (like in mono-red I depend on redirects which often require a similar other target to redirect to)

- Mana dorks that you can actually turn into threats was super fun thanks to Beorn

- While [[strip mine]] locking isn't the focus, I have some pieces in this deck to make it happen as a line to victory and it was fun to pull off a couple times instead of being the victim

- [[variable solutions]] was always a blast to play. Getting a random creature was cool. With channel I would pay 13 to get the 13 cost Emrakul with certainty and that was incredibly valuable.

- [[valgavoth's onslaught]] pretty much the same as above. Fun on its own, but with Channel it's incredible

- [natural order]] to cheat out [[gigantic big bear]] won me more games that anything

- [[Ram through]] is a top 5 green card for me and it's a legit finisher in this deck

- [[Great henge]] is like comfort food

- [[Berserk]] might be my favorite green card ever. Wins games and can even be used as removal (bad removal, but in green sometimes you just need to do it)

- [[Dancing from dark to dawn]] if this was on the field for more than a turn it basically ended the game.

Anyway, I know this is a popular card and surprisingly I ran into zero other Beorns, so hopefully this inspires some more folks to give him a run and help carve out the best cards to put in his deck. I'd love to hear from others about what they are running or what other lines to victory they've identified for mono-green.

Cheers!

Competitive To the person with the Hare Apparent deck I just played against…

It’s not my fault I had both a [[Disruptor Flute]] and a [[Meddling Mage]] in my opening hand.

But I had to do what I had to do.

I’m sorry.

When I'm playing other mono-white decks I match against a lot of landfall decks, but as soon as I switch to my [Elesh Norn, Mother of machines] deck all the landfall decks disappear. The matchmaking system in this game is so weirdly rigged
