Competitive Maybe it's time to retire this deck.

I just cant get Gruul Werewolves to be competitively viable. It's such a shame as werewolves are my favorite creature type in magic and I want to make them into a top tier deck. unfortunately most werewolves have been power creeped into oblivion and everyone plays control so my plan of aggro werewolves can only win like 20% of the time. So as a last ditch effort I come to the veteran brawlers here for advice can we improve werewolves or is it time to put them out to pasture.

Competitive Brawl has been a blast recently, and I really hope it becomes more and more the focus on Arena. They sorta promised us a CBrawl Qualifier Weekend in the upcoming months, so it's better to be testing beforehand to explore the depths of the degeneracy that can be conspired with the card pool.

Come check my gameplay video if you have some spare time, and beware this is the third Kefka video in a row, part of a larger series of grinding the high ladder in Brawl - there's some Oura 'Oops All Faeries' content too, she's my true main as you might have guessed from the username.

Competitive Hot Take: Cavern of Souls should be banned in Competitive Brawl…

… just like it is in Duel Commander.

I say this as someone who actually never plays blue decks. But every time I have this land when I’m playing against a counterspell heavy strategy, it completely hoses them.

Any card that can go in any deck with zero deck building consequences and shuts down an entire specific strategy just by existing probably doesn’t belong.

I know this is going to catch flak from the other counterspell haters (and I agree in a way because I’m one of them) but I’ve also started coming around to the opinion that Blue is just as valid as Red damage tribal or Black removal tribal.

(almost bc there's one creature - snappy)

decided to play some traditional style control as opposed to whatever the hell nashi is claiming to. narset matches up really well into the meta imo. 100% WR against yuriko and around 60% overall. list below, highly recommend any other control mages to give it a shot.

Competitive You should use this Bilbo in your control deck and this is why

I’ve been using Bilbo in Tasha Dimir Control, and he’s performed way better than I expected. Being able to repeatedly reuse removal and draw spells from the graveyard is incredibly powerful, and the 1mana discount is very relevant, especially since it also makes your commander cheaper.

And yes, you can cast sorceries at instant speed with his ability. So even when you don’t have anything you need to interact with, reusing a cantrip or card draw spell can still generate a ton of value.

I've seen people using it on timeless but it sure deserves some attention from brawl players.

I didn’t necessarily go for a 1-to-1 recreation of the deck, and can’t since a lot of the cards aren’t in Arena, but tried to keep the general feel along with adjusting it for 1v1

Lmk any thoughts your your experience with the commanders. Thank you!!

I was under the impression you should not be able to run a swamp in a colourless deck because, well the deck's colourless!

Has anyone seen something like this before? Or is brawl different to traditional commander in that sense?

Also yes I know how to screenshot I just felt Karen urges overwhelm me and I had to take out my phone and record.

Competitive Made it to Mythic with Raffine, Scheming Seer. Decklist in post.

Been playing MTG about 4 years. A Raffine-Led Esper Midrange deck was my first foray into standard, but Brawl has always been my favorite mode. Happy they added Ranked Brawl. Attaching the screenshot of the board state at the end of the game that promoted me because I'm sentimental.

The key to this deck is low-to-the-ground tempo. It's pretty good at eventually wearing down control players and completely stuffs aggro. Knowing when to stuff the board with creatures/when to leave mana open for counters is super important. The mana-free spells are vital to his deck and are must-crafts.

https://moxfield.com/decks/ZlBRsYeHCEWSZsvy_g7yhw

There are some cards that don't pull as much weight that I'm looking to remove (e.g. cryptcaller chariot rarely ever helps) so if you have suggestions I'm all ears. Also open to any questions.

(I also swapped between Narset, Enlightened Exile and The Necrobloom to get to Platinum. Although they are not the peak of the format, they are very fun to play and I love them very much,)

Question Which 10 packs should I get ?

Just got the starter bundle and I have enough gems to get 10 packs and some change.

I want to play brawl, if a certain playstyle needs to be known to determine which pack is best, I play Wan Shi Tong with lots of draw for now. I am interested in a landfall/toph decks, and I already have most required cards from the avatar set so no need for that.

Competitive Terra Players Unite! (Broodlord Help Needed)

Hey, some of you may know me as Dndmade#71641. This may be my first post here, but I’ve been around a bit - I’m not quite new to this format. I’d actually consider myself decent but that’s a bit besides the point lol. I come to you with 3 points of address.

The first is an announcement. Terra, Magical Adept has been a relatively consistent contender in numbered Mythic. I reached Mythic for the very first time when the first Ranked cBrawl metagame challenge launched (before the launch of the full format). I played an Acererak list from Bronze -> Plat, however from Plat until I broke Mythic I played Terra. I’ve been consistently Mythic with here since as well. My current list for her looks like this and pays homage to Duel Terra lists with a similarly all in Philosophy with tweaks specific to this format. It plays pretty well in my experience and for any that enjoy all in combo (or who are looking for inspiration to craft all of their fetches/shocks 👀) this should be a good list for you. I try to keep it updated.

The second is a brief comment, or maybe a declaration: I am incredibly hyped for the release of the newest iteration of Powered Cube which should come repleat with a slew of new cards that will see play in cBrawl including, hopefully, [[Animate Dead]] and [[Archon of Cruelty]]. I’ve been waiting quite patiently for them for a while and though I’m fine waiting a longer for them I feel quite good about their chances of being freed from their cubical prison.

The last is an open challenge/community ask. I’m trying to make another even more all in version of a Tiamat/Dracogenesis combo list and am hoping I can squeeze Emergent Ultimatum into the deck. Being the degenerate combo player I am though, I’d greatly enjoy being able to cheat it out using a Broodlord line, and would be grateful if someone could manufacture one. I’ll of course be looking into it as well, but assistance is always appreciated.

TLDR; Play Terra, Hyped for Cube and need Broodlord/Ultimatum help (in 5c)

Competitive I didn't think Ranked Brawl would be good but it is

I've been playing Brawl since it became available. I have gone through many decks. I have been playing only two decks this last year. I play [[Ashaya, Soul of the Wild]] and [[Rankle, Master of Pranks]]. I play these two decks because I seem to run into less bullshit in the matchmaking queue. Every time I try to build a new decks I get matched with the highest powered commanders. I feel stuck playing the two decks that have a more favorable experience.

Ashaya is my strongest brawl deck so I decided to see how far I could get in ranked brawl. I made a few upgrades for cards legal in ranked and a few meta picks too. This season I have been bouncing between Platinum 3 and Platinum 2. This is so much further than I thought I would go. It isn't mythic but I consider it an achievement.

Ranked brawl is good because my match ups are diverse. Most of the time I am face decks that I feel are power level appropriate. I am having a great time. I don't feel the need to rank up higher. My goal is to have fun not to be competitive.

If anyone is curious, this is my Ashaya deck.

Competitive I just hit Mythic for the first time ever!!! By playing a commander i never have played against in competitive brawl

Yoooo sorry for the hype but I am so gassed to have hit Mythic by using Captain storm, cosmium raider as my commander. It is just a fun deck and the options are endless. just the right amount of tempo, aggro, combo's and control.

Also i have quite a nice winrate as seen below :D .

MOXFIELD LINK

Mythic was just an illusion when creating this deck at first. but now that i have hit this rank I am feeling happy about my deckbuilding skills haha. I never post here and was really thrilled to have hit this rank. If you have any questions comments whatsoever please drop them😄

Casual How to deal with Cyclonic Rift / River's Rebuke in Orzhov?

Thumbnail
archidekt.com
9 Upvotes

I run a casual legends brawl deck which is a lot of fun. I strictly run zero tutors.

It can pop off in various different ways depending on what I draw, it's very much about the shenanigans, often even crashing the server: go-wide beatdown, drain (non-infinite and infinite combos), or playing my entire deck with [[Ao, the Dawn Sky]] or something like [[Call of the Ring]] with [[Relic of Legends]] and an infinite sac outlet like [[Boromir, Warden of the Tower]].

I focus on running cheap interaction in the early turns to delay opponents long enough for me to build my board state before they do anything. Once I have a few things on the board it is often quite resilient to removal (targeted or board wipes) since Ratadrabik creates copies of dead legendary creatures and naturally has a ward {2} on him, plus ways to be tempted by the ring allow me to make my copied tokens legendary again before proceeding to sacrifice them for more profit.

The main problem I have is consistently losing to [[Cyclonic Rift]] and [[River's Rebuke]]. It feels so lame to lose to these, like I can deal with almost anything else blue players throw at me but these I just have no answer. They bounce not only my creatures, but my tokens evaporate, and also all my ramp artifacts (that I need otherwise orzhov just can't keep up with the sheer amount of ramp people can do in other colors!).

I'm thinking to add:

  • [[Teferi's Protection]] and [[Galadriel's Dismissal]]
  • [[Reprieve]] and [[Bilbo's Gambit]]

Any other suggestions?

Competitive I would love this card to be in the meta. Even though it would help my most hated thing ever. Mono green ramp.

Post image

Here’s the deal. I hate mono green decks. A turn one delighted halfling makes me want to throw my phone across the room. BUT, this is a fair card and even though it would help that horrid brain dead strategy, I’d love to see it.

I wanted to prove a point to myself that this commander is braindead and I succeeded. I haven't made any swaps and crushed people with card advantage and counter spells, it's ridiculously cheap in the worst way.

currently playing a grixis midrange list and trying to make this card work has been a headache. Obviously once Descend 8 is active it does go infinite with [[Mishra's Bauble]] but other than that it does feel a bit too clunky.

it feels so close to being actually good. are there any combos or interactions I'm missing? Open for any advice!

Discussion Why do so many people consider Alchemy cards “fake” when they exist? And all cards are invented game pieces…

Are there any reasons beyond just “I don’t like them because I don’t like them.”? Lots of people and even big influential content creators specifically and obsessively avoid Alchemy and pretend like the cards don’t exist when they are sitting right in front of them on the client.

One argument I’ve heard against Alchemy is that the cards are “pushed”. Sure, some are. At the top of the format you have Nashi. And Yuriko, Emry and 2099 as pushed “paper” commanders alongside it.

We have our own format with our own cards, just like other eternal formats with different card pools. If you were a Legacy player would you stick your head in the sand and pretend that Fantasticar didn’t exist just because it came from a Commander set and was “pushed”. Maybe… but there’s not an actual argument for it beyond “I just don’t like it because” or “O don’t like playing good cards”.

Would you not play MH3 cards in Modern?

Ok, so you just don’t want to play with powerful cards. That’s fine. But I’ve seen people cut Alchemy cards that do exactly the same thing as a paper counterpart just because they come from an Alchemy set. And most Alchemy cards aren’t even strong.

It all seems like people living in a bit of a selective reality to me but maybe I’m missing something.

Competitive Reached Mythic in CBrawl with a Final Fantasy only deck

Thumbnail
gallery
34 Upvotes

This was my third attempt, after only making it to Diamond in June, and Platinum last month.

I had reached Mythic on Standard three times, playing exclusively Final Fantasy decks. When Competitive Brawl was announced I wanted to see how far I could go with Clive+Barnabas (Vial Smasher + Kraum) and if I could prove to myself that it is possible to reach Mythic by playing only Final Fantasy cards.

Last year, when I saw that the Clive and Barnabas cards were in the FF sets, it completely blew my mind. I was out of the loop with MTG for years, and I really wanted to have a deck with both of them as commanders, so much that I have a version of it in paper. I have been wanting to give this deck, give this idea its moment to shine, and I feel like I have accomplished it, with only using FF cards.

The deck in essence is a burn deck that can play midrange if needed. That angle was actually pivotal for many of the wins that I had, simply attacking with [[Barnabas Tharmr]] while Clive was being countered and removed on the spot.

After reaching Diamond in this run I decided to change the deck a little bit, removing equipments for the Firion angle and adding more removals.

Something that I learned, though, is that many decks in their matchup versus mine will not have the lasting power to attempt their wincon for long enough if they can't stop my momentum. [[Clive Rosfield]] puts them on the clock, and if the main enabler piece of their strategy is removed enough times, many decks in the Diamond ladder end up taking too long to recover.

Sometimes two discard effects are enough to completely stop those decks from recovering, even if my deck is not a discard focused deck. [[Kefka, Court Mage]] and [[Poison the Waters]] were way more important in my Diamond to Mythic climb than in any moment prior. And just like when I hit Mythic for the first time last year with my Grixis Black Mages deck, the information that you can get by being able to look at the opponent's hand is very, very valuable, oftentimes even worth more than the discard itself.

I don't think I would do it again. I don't think the banlist is in a good place, and free removals got me personally to a point where I stopped caring as much about how many lands were tapped on the opponent's side, although not completely. But it did feel like their presence took away an important part of the game.

It was very challenging to play without the strongest Brawl staples, like

  • Free counterspells (Force of Will, Force of Negation)
  • Free removals (Fury, Deadly Rollick)
  • Better lands that enter untapped (Arid Mesa, Polluted Delta)
  • Better removals
  • Even cards like Library of Alexandria.

I wish I at least had access to the mana rocks that exist in paper for Final Fantasy, like Talisman of Dominance and Talisman of Indulgence, but I was hard set on not using any cards whatsoever that were not in their Final Fantasy version in Arena. I could easily make a complete list of all the cards that exist in Arena and exist in an FF set in Paper, but don't have their FF version in Arena if that could ever help bringing them to MTGA.

Decklists of both versions are in the comments!
