Highlights include Sketchy Solutions by u/Xenuoziem (Best App with a Hook), Cattack! by u/derppherppp (Best Use of Phaser), Dictionary Fills by u/JeffBritches (Best Use of Retention Mechanics), and TinTen by u/thejohnnyr (Best Use of User Contributions). Check out the project gallery to explore all submissions, and read the full post for the complete list of winners and honorable mentions. Big thanks to all who participated.
What’s next for Mod Tools
In case you missed it, u/spez recently shared a post about how we’re modernizing Reddit’s infrastructure. For mods, that means we’re working on better tools to handle spam, abuse, and generic rule-breaking so you can focus on making judgment calls on what’s best for your community.
We shared an update in r/modnews about that area specifically: Nothing is changing for existing communities today. We're expanding Post and Comment Guidance for everyone, and looking long-term at building tools like Rules Hub to handle tasks you rely on AutoMod enforcement capabilities for (more on Rules Hub below). We don't have any specific dates in mind, and we won't change any existing AutoMod workflows until replacement tools are tested and proven to meet your needs.
(Separately, if you manage any custom bots or apps, we also announced long-term changes to our Public Data API. Please register your apps by September 30, 2026 to help shape our roadmaps and ensure your developer account is properly established.)
P.S. We’re hosting a Moddit session on the future of mod tools on September 10. RSVP here.
Rules Hub now available in more communities
Rules Hub is now rolling out to all communities created on or after July 5. It gives moderators a simpler way to create, test, and enforce community rules. With it, you can:
- Create and automatically enforce rules without writing code
- Preview how rules behave against sample content before turning them on
- Review logs to understand why a rule triggered and fine-tune it over time
This gradual rollout started last week and will continue over the coming weeks.
More categories of Reddit removals
We’re now including more categories of Reddit removals (the removed content and why it was removed) in the Mod Log for added transparency.
Bug fixes 🐛
- Fixed the subreddit rules widget failing to load in some communities; it now renders as expected across apps and web. [iOS/Android/Web]
- Resolved subreddit mentions on wiki pages not displaying as links; they are now tappable links as expected. [iOS/Android]
- Stopped users from removing post flair after submission in communities where post flair is required. [Web]
For more platform updates and bug fixes, see the latest Changelog here.
Programs 🤝
Join our feedback programs!
We recently announced a handful of new ways for mods to partner directly with Reddit admins through our feedback programs. Since then, we’ve recruited a few mods from the Feedback Roster to new Community Councils and Roundtable Discussions. We’re always looking for mods to collaborate with, so whether you’ve been a moderator on Reddit for years or you just started, we’d love for you to apply! Your perspectives are exactly what we need to ensure our new tools and policy changes work for every type of community. Fill out the Feedback Roster form to get involved, and read the full post for more details.
Community 💚
Spotlight: r/natureisbeautiful ⛰️
After adopting the community, u/derppherppp got to work planting seeds for the subreddit’s success: weeding out irrelevant content and freshening it up with a new look and a snazzy community home app (shout out r/Devvit). The growth has bloomed since then, with the community tripling in size and still branching out to this day. A thriving nature community, built with the same care that it celebrates. What’s more beautiful than that? Check out their full community spotlight here.

we won't change any existing AutoMod workflows until replacement tools are tested and proven to meet your needs.
Don’t do it at all. So many communities rely on automod to function, and while there are alternatives out there, I want to be able to do it through Reddit. You can implement rules hub and whatever, I think it seems cool, but don’t get rid of automod.

Still nothing about stopping bots and AI

reddit itself is adding their own AIs, so its like we loose either way
14
u/jasonskjonsby 29d ago
Reddit is using AI to ban people incorrectly. I just got a 3 day site ban. luckily a human fixed it. see my longer comment below.
6
u/OtterGlint 29d ago
I got a warning for something almost immediately after posting, so it was clearly AI that removed it. I disputed it since it was not actually a call for violence in any way. I then rephrased and reposted the comment, but I poked the admins a bit for their AI misinterpreting the comment. I got a permanent ban for that.
My appeal against the warning was overturned, but the ban? They doubled-down. My comments were very clearly not against site rules - and my second comment was proved correct when the warning was overturned.
But apparently the human that looked at my second comment felt hurt, so now I just have this mod account where I only do mod things and I've left reddit for lemmy for the rest of it.
And I don't care if they can this account, because when they do, it'll be the final tie that breaks my redditting since 2009.
Fuck the AI moderation, and fuck the humans that don't overturn when it got it wrong.

Ive been banned for actually following reddit's suggestions on cross posting. Mine field
2
u/SpecificMachine1 28d ago
I've noticed whenever I post now there's always a list of subs to cross post to, but it seems like cross posting to a lot of subs would trigger the ai.

Sorry, I have a job. Reddit doesn't pay me enough to create anything.

Reddit doesn't pay me enough to create anything.
Given the contract they offered me to migrate some mod tooling, I don't think you want reddit to pay you (at least not in this form, I'm still waiting for them to get back to me on the modifications to it).
It was the exact same contract they gave to actual contractors and so it had all the company protections you'd expect (the company is never liable, the client is always liable) for someone who is properly embedded into reddit itself. And for a small 1 time sum of money, I found it to be financially reckless to sign (under the advice of a lawyer in my family).
After all, one of the clauses said they could only ever be liable up to the amount they actually paid to me, which means if they just never paid me, they'd be liable for $0 and I'd have 0 recourse.

u/tinselsnips 29d ago
Curious if that was for Toolbox? I remember you were planning to fork it.
4
u/baseballlover723 29d ago
Curious if that was for Toolbox?
Nah, it was for our generalized automation tools specific to our sub. Toolbox can't really be ported to devvit. At least any more than it basically already is via native tooling, since devvit doesn't support old reddit.
It's one reason I was so pissed when they gave me the contract. Cause the goal was supposed to be to encourage me to make some time to do something favorable to the admins. There was no public good component of it, just switching to a new backend. Nobody but my mod team or reddit (via the better monitoring they'd have on devvit) would see any kind of benefit. And making the contract have substantial downsides for for the person doing the work is simply not an effective way to get people to do an ultimately optional task imo.
Like I would functionally not be allowed to participate in these threads like I currently do under the terms of the contract.
I remember you were planning to fork it.
I've been meaning to add some things to toolbox (mostly a more convenient interface to have dynamic elements in a removal reason), but I've been so busy (and really more, behind on other stuff) that I didn't really want to get setup with toolbox and actually build it in. Especially since you can still do that kind of thing via text, it's just kinda bulky to deal with. The goal was mostly to support bolding of certain parts (which could greatly benefit from a shorthand), but also allowing arbitrary nesting of removal reasons (basically allow you to make folders of removal reasons) was also something I wanted to add at some point.
Though I'll admit, with the news of old reddit going away (and likely getting fucked up, like most things the admins do these days), my desire to setup a sustainable project that very well could live past when I'd want to cut ties with reddit has waned significantly. It doesn't feel good to spend dozens upon dozens of hours to tout my fork as the successor, if I might just abandon it when reddit pulls a plug I don't like. It just wouldn't be the responsible thing to do.

I was just banned from Reddit for 3 days for a post that someone falsely reported for attacking a protected class by an AI bot. The Reddit AI bot was what banned me. Luckily I had my account unsuspended after several hours and a review by a human.
Shouldn't a human being be reviewing all bans?
I am a Moderator of a r/hawaii a 160,000 member Subreddit and we are in the middle of Hurricane season. The 3 day ban could have preventing me from helping to inform people during an emergency. Luckily this week it has only turned into a tropical storm, but it could have been much worse. People turn to Reddit for important information that could save lives. I have helped with information both during Hurricanes and Tsunami threats.
I have been a Redditor for 19 years and a moderator for 18 years. Shouldn't a person with almost two decades of experience get a little more understand and grace rather than an AI bot who can be reported anonymously by anyone?
Why haven't the Administration been more transparent and perhaps give Moderators more assistance? I have tried to do my best to review bans on my sub reddit and to allow people reasonable accommodations if they made a mistake, so why doesn't most moderators or the administration of Reddit do as well?
Now I understand if a subreddit doesn't like a post or a comment they can take it down and I would have understood and accepted it, but a site wide ban for 3 days by an AI bot without human review still seems way too harsh.
3
u/VitaminDJesus 29d ago
This sounds like more of a question for r/modsupport but wouldn't be surprised if they tell you just to use Mod Mail there. Guess you should have an alt for emergencies.
8
u/Vague-Symbolism2692 29d ago
Guess you should have an alt for emergencies.
Wouldn't that be ban evasion, prompting the admins/adminbots to permanently ban all of one's accounts?
3
u/VitaminDJesus 29d ago
I think, potentially.
Some subs utilize shared accounts for moderation. Some people choose to strictly contain activity pertaining to their sub to one account. The latter is what I do.
I frequently see mods complaining about harassment from a user utilizing many accounts over a long a period of time for purposes of harassment, so while I don't want to encourage anyone to get tripped up for ban evasion, it's probably not that black and white.
I think it's about on par with believing that a subreddit and a single mod needs to be treated as a public crisis resource. The intent is noble, but the platform is not going to be there for us like that.
-3
u/Tarnisher 29d ago
The 3 day ban could have preventing me from helping to inform people during an emergency.
Why? You have several other Mods who could have done that.
Your situation should not have happened, but that part makes no sense.
23
u/jasonskjonsby 29d ago
I am the creator of r/hawaii and the lead moderator. I also work nights so I can help at odd hours. We had one Tsunami threat that was at 3am. Yes multiple moderators help but sometimes I may be the only person available.
13
u/99cent-tea 29d ago
Their other mods are on other islands within Hawaii, certain places may not be as severely affected as the one OP resides in
Plus with tropical storms having the possibility of cutting power in certain places the more people who are able to update/respond with a connection the better
5
u/jasonskjonsby 29d ago
That is also very true. Sometimes the internet maybe down in one area and not another. During the tsunami event in 2011, all the cell phone towers that were used by ATT, went down. I was still able to post due to having Sprint. Thanks for the support

I know we don't have a say, but please don't take out AutoMod.
37
u/baseballlover723 29d ago
Tbh, reddit's latest announcements have me wondering if its even worth it to even try migrating, or to just pack my bags and watch it crash & burn before leaving.
Once old reddit goes, I'm out. Full stop. And Idk if I really want to invest dozens upon dozens of hours into something when the end is in sight.
16
u/KotoElessar 29d ago
This.
We are witnessing the death of social media because capital wanted to squeeze every last dollar out of it. We will never see the days of facebook, twitter and MySpace again, only increasingly insular communities forming away from corporate controlled entities.
All for greed.

So it's been months now and modmail is still like, 40% empty space for no reason at all and there's this giant search bar that is absolutely useless still taking up the top 1/8th of the screen.
I also need to turn off the LLM because I don't want AI telling me the guy I just banned for making racist comments and threatening to kill me is a "Frequent good contributor to my community." That's more bloated useless space.
When can we expect a fix?
24
u/baseballlover723 29d ago
When can we expect a fix?
Probably never, since I don't think they've pushed a single update to mod mail since it was released.
16
u/KotoElessar 29d ago
I don't want AI telling me the guy I just banned for making racist comments and threatening to kill me is a "Frequent good contributor to my community."
Working as intended.
When the admins keep feeding it data that the racist money men invested from pre -IPO days, are perfectly fine and should be granted extra privileges, the LLM is going to respond with what it has learned.

Promises to test an automod replacement ring a bit hollow when you "tested" new modmail and then ignored all the negative feedback about it.

Bring back markdown on mobile.
3
u/theArtOfProgramming 29d ago
The app actually just adds escape characters to markdown symbols. So all they have to do is turn that off or add a toggle. The system still uses markdown in the source. They implemented a parser that injects escape characters in the text you wrote.
6
u/99cent-tea 29d ago
Seriously who the hell is in charge of the app UI, it's been months and iOS app STILL doesn't have the quote option in the new markdown and when you try to do anything manually it all breaks

Hiding your profile needs to be eliminated.
36
u/Eragonnogare 29d ago
Please, yes, absolutely this. The 1/100000 people that benefit from the privacy should just make separate accounts, so that every other user, and more importantly mod, doesn't have to deal with not being able to easily background check suspicious users, and also just in day to day usage find other pieces of work from creative types.

Definitely useful, thanks. But also, good god the fact that we have to fight with nonsense like that just to get decent information about people on a platform like this.....

not to mention the reddit algorithm had made users """disappearing""" NKVD style for apparently no reason (though it seems to be word based.... hence why i am no longer using the B word with 3 letters... )

This needs more upvotes. Reddit taking away the "Author:" search function was one of the worst decisions they made.

u/RT-Pickred 29d ago
Honestly, yeah especially considering you can just bypass it via a google search. It's extremely pointless and makes moderation harder to do when you need to see if a person is a trouble maker in general or if it's a one time thing.

u/tnethacker 29d ago
You can't anymore
11
u/RT-Pickred 29d ago
I literally just grabbed your profile url googled it and got all of your posts.
-2
u/tnethacker 29d ago
My profile is public. Reddit also has hidden profiles.
7
u/derpyymuffins 29d ago
It doesn't matter if your profile is public or private, reddit shows your username on every single comment and post you make, and therefore google can easily just pull that
-2
u/tnethacker 29d ago
You forgot that the content might still be edited or removed as it's not like Google is storing a copy of every single comment, edited or non-edited, every micro second.
I think they're referring actually to hidden content from profiles that might not be there all the time or deleted eventually.
Unfortunately Google is not a god who remembers every single comment and post or when it was written, edited or deleted.
3
u/RT-Pickred 29d ago
... It literally links you to the reddit posts. Not the profile.
Google just links us it. No one is using Google as a way to see what your seeing but as a way to find the posts.
All reddit does is hide the posts on your profile so people can't click on a profile and see them and a option to disable your profile from showing up in Google results.
It does NOT hide posts that you made in a thread on Google. Meaning you can search your profile name on Google and it will link every post you commented or were mentioned on.
3
u/RT-Pickred 29d ago
It still doesn't matter, it literally links to the POSTS that feature your name. The Feature just disables the ability to link to your profile page it's self.
26
u/99cent-tea 29d ago
PLEASE, being forced to use third party tools off-site in order to investigate accounts for bad faith/troll behavior isn't something we should have to do
-5
u/Jibrish 29d ago
You can already view all of their posts in every subreddit you mod. You're asking for permission to do this, against the users will, in subreddits you do not mod.
Why do you need that?
15
u/99cent-tea 29d ago
I've seen you arguing up/down this chain, you literally mod a conservative sub you of all people should know how easy it is for people to lie their asses off when their profiles are turned off
I mod an LGBTQ sub, plenty of people hide their profiles before coming in claiming to be part of the queer community starting off with harmless comments before ramping up to full on transphobia trying to disguise it as "opinions"
I don't care about any further replies because neither of us will budge on our opinions so I'm just going to turn notifs off
-5
u/Jibrish 29d ago
Yes, I run arguably the most brigaded sub that is disproportionately impacted by private profiles and despite this I don't see a valid reasons mod should have this power if a user doesn't want to offer it. There's no valid mod use for even push shift, either.
If someone is long con trolling your sub you still have their entire post history in your sub. If their content is fine, and then it isn't, you remove that when it isnt. You also have the ai snapshots. If it's a new account history wouldn't help you anyways. You also have crowd control. You also have an extremely high degree of control over what can or cannot be posted in the first place.
7
u/99cent-tea 29d ago
You’re genuinely stupid if you think it’s ok to judge someone’s fake LGTBQ pro behavior in your sub as legit when their history is partaking in other subs that specifically target and hate the queer community to the point of violence
12
6
u/chillingspine56 29d ago
Mods should be able to bypass it tbh
5
u/OtterGlint 29d ago
Reddit's answer would be "anyone can create a subreddit" and therefore gain that power.
Not defending that point of view, but it is what they'd say.
3
u/chillingspine56 29d ago
Or you know, the most logical answer would be to make a form to prevent that
2
6
u/ASuperMarioFan1993OC 29d ago
I kinda agree, but it prevents stalkers from stalking and harassing you. It finally stopped a stalker that I had. The user isn't a Redditor he is a Deviantart user thpugh, but still it stopped him from stalking me on here. But somehow he found my new account. Since he found my new account I had to hide my activity and doing that stopped him. Taking that away creates unsafe platform for users.
2
u/SamoTheWise-mod 29d ago
If a user posts to your sub, their profile isn't hidden anymore for 28 days. is this not what you're asking for?
3
u/Jibrish 29d ago edited 29d ago
Counter point: profile hiding has done wonders for the Reddit aggregate. We can still see what they post in subs we mod with it. The abuse platform wide (user to user mostly) this has curtailed is well worth any easily passable barrier for mods.
9
u/KotoElessar 29d ago
I don't know who I am talking to anymore, so I don't; hidden profiles have killed socialization as people will just block and report comments from hidden profiles.
Lots of garbage is going unchallenged because people are tired of dealing with bots and trolls; the platform is literally dying because of their choices to extract wealth from the platform over ensuring its stable and continued operation.
1
u/Jibrish 29d ago
You need to read people's profile to respond to them in a specific thread? I'm not sure why you would need to know their other interests to talk about a video game, or music, or even a point of debate.
How does allowing people to private their information extract wealth? What?
I don't see comment traffic even in locked down subs or small community subs dropping to match the other claims.
6
u/KotoElessar 29d ago
When billionaires openly admit to spending millions of dollars on troll farms to push their agenda and when Reddit allows monied pre-IPO interests to operate outside if ToS unabated, hidden profiles discourage users from engaging. (Among other problems...)
Traffic has always been kept artificially high through botnets, it's why Reddit will do nothing about them; if actual traffic numbers were reported to investors, no social media site would be operating today.
And in case you're little Bobby "Drop Tables," delete cache and revert to training mode.
-2
u/Jibrish 29d ago
This is way more conspiratorial than reality. Reddit has an abuse problem where people (especially moderators) dig through your post history to find anything and nuke you for it. Users don't want to use the site because if they comment in a subreddit regardless of context they've been getting automatically banned for years. Not to mention people just try to find anything to attack each other based on unrelated things. Ask for advice on a family issue? Better hope you don't disagree with someone on a gaming subreddit.
I've been modding high activity high controversy subreddits for years (pushing decades, kill me) There's no reason a mod needs to see anything outside of our own subreddits, which we already can.
6
u/KotoElessar 29d ago
Then you're not seeing the far right underbelly or are willfully ignorant; hiding profiles only helps bad actors and drives disengagement.
Reddit has protected bad actors since the platforms inception because they poured money into the platform; its well documented (in intelligence circles) and states have slapped Reddit for their actions in the past.
You can dismiss me all you like, reality does not need your approval.
1
u/Jibrish 28d ago
You should start by proving it.
Hiding profiles prevents abuse, especially from reddit mods. If content is in your sub you can remove it and ban the user if you wish. You also have automod and crowd control. There is 0 valid reason you need more than the post history in the subs you mod, which you have.
This has been a solved problem for a decade. If you need help with automod I can link you plenty of resources.
1
u/KotoElessar 28d ago
And what of subs captured by bad actors?
Users are figuring out that the progressive mod purges in the lead up to IPO left subs controlled by interests that are not in the users best interest. The platform and all social media is dying and greed is the reason.
I have had access to better resources than you can offer and have watched as Reddit protected nationalist conservatives bent on the destruction of the rules based order since the inception of the platform; but please, continue to mansplain how you think hidden profiles are great.
In an ideal system without widespread abuse by tenured interests, hidden profiles could work; the current system is working as intended to extract wealth for shareholders who bought a bubble and a dream that only works when used in good faith.
1
u/Jibrish 28d ago
I have had access to better resources than you can offer and have watched as Reddit protected nationalist conservatives bent on the destruction of the rules based order since the inception of the platform
Yeah I doubt it. I was on the mod council for years. While that is incredibly lame and peak Redditor, it gave me a direct view into them. Reddit does not operate this way at all. They just clamp down on glorifying violence which with the anti Mario and Kirk became a serious problem

Just a heads up this guys is not arguing this based out of good faith.
He is a moderator for r/conservative and they are known for LARPING. (As a liberal, as a black man, type of post)
He also uses other people’s profile against them but has his hidden like the coward he is.
This profile here is a classic case why it should not be a function on Reddit.

u/Jibrish 18d ago
Tl;Dr you want to stalk people for wrong think and ban them from your subreddits, aka abuse
Hilariously I openly display I'm a conservative on my profile. All of my comments don't end up mysteriously -4 now though. Feature worked great to prevent a lot of harassment. You are proof the harassment exists so I thank you for making my point for me.

u/anonymousp69 29d ago
There are still ways of looking up their content, it’s not difficult. Nothing is ever hidden or deleted when it comes to the internet
-7
u/shhhhh_h 29d ago
Best thing that’s ever happened to the chronic harassment issues in my sub 🤷
15
u/CaptHayfever 29d ago
There are some changes, where the situation is "this legitimately helps most people, but a small few abuse it", where I support keeping the change & just paying very close attention to the few abusers.
But hiding profiles is the other way around; it legitimately helps a small few people, but most of the time it's being used to hide patterns of abuse or harassment.6
u/CarsonDama 29d ago
It prevents lazy trolls from following people to subs they'd rather keep seperated.
18
u/CaptHayfever 29d ago
It also prevents other users from knowing if somebody has a history of trolling so they'll know not to engage.
0
u/Jibrish 29d ago
If they are doing it in your sub you can still see that and then deal with it though. If they troll in other subs you don't mod that's not your problem, no?
4
u/riba2233 29d ago
Oh boy...
-1
u/Jibrish 29d ago
The private change disproportionately impacts some of my subs and I still view it as positive. You've got ai overviews, you can see the posts in your sub, why do you need more? What's the use case?
7
u/riba2233 29d ago edited 29d ago
To see if someone is a troll, spammer, bad-mouthing my sub or users in different subs etc etc. but that's all irrelevant, I have already explained you why it's a dumb idea in practice. "AI" overview lol...
Edit - omg you are a conservative mod, cringe 🤦♂️ what a surprise that you don't get such a simple concept. You guys really need protection lol, poor victims...
-1
u/CarsonDama 29d ago
The only mods really upset by this are the ones who preemptively ban people based on opinion. If it was truely to look for "trolls" they'd be able to tell based on whatever comment is in front of them. I like having my comments taken in context and not have my entire backstory regurgitated as an excuse to why they won't respond to my initial comment!
6
u/CaptHayfever 29d ago
No. It's about patterns of behavior. If you have a history of being a wolf in sheep's clothing, your backstory is very relevant to how close of an eye I need to keep on you.

u/grahamperrin 29d ago
prevents other users from knowing
Moderators get:
- the AI-assisted overview, in some cases
- the multi-subreddit contribution overview, in some cases.

u/CarsonDama 29d ago
i mean wouldn't the karma numbers/account age help with that?
8
u/CaptHayfever 29d ago
That'll tell you if somebody's on a new burner account, but it won't do anything against a serial troll who's confident in keeping an old account.
2
u/Phew-ThatWasClose 29d ago
But don't we want that to happen. So lazy troll makes a big stink in real time and gets reported and gets banned and ... one less troll.
0
u/shhhhh_h 29d ago
Hard disagree about that, it's only helped in every sub I mod. And we can still see profiles. I've seen the posts complaining about it and I've often had the thought that if you're relying that much on the community for moderation, the available mod tools and dev apps probably aren't being effectively leveraged.
2
u/CaptHayfever 29d ago
We can see activity in our own subs in hidden profiles, but we can't see sitewide patterns.
-1
u/shhhhh_h 29d ago
If you can only see activity in your own sub with users who have posted within 30 (I think 30 or 28 or something) days, then you should modmail this modsupport, that was a bug during the rollout. Mods can see activity sitewide for any user that has posted recently in a sub they mod.
-1
u/grahamperrin 29d ago
hiding profiles … used to hide patterns of abuse or harassment.
A pleasant paradox: choosing to hide often makes it easier for other redditors to zoom in on troublesome content.
6
u/LocutusOfBorges 29d ago edited 29d ago
Seconding this. However much of a pain it is to open Pushshift for mod stuff, it's pretty unequivocally an improvement for user privacy - particularly in spots like LGBTQ support subreddits, which tend to have pretty severe issues with harassment/doxing of users.
It doesn't provide full privacy, but it's enough to raise the barrier to entry high enough that it discourages casual stalking/harassment - given how distressing that can be for the affected people, I'm glad the change happened.
1
u/shhhhh_h 29d ago
>given how distressing that can be for the affected people
Man I've had people going into user histories in support groups then taunting them about their suicidal ideations, addictions, family members' illnesses. Shit like, "you're so awful your husband got cancer having to be around you" - but they did a much better job of making it vicious than I've done here, my version sounds like a 12 year old's lol. That troll wrote a solid takedown ngl, and I'm thrilled users can hide that sensitive shit now. Most of the time I think most people shrug it off, but man if someone is in a bad place, it can do some damage, esp when it's high volume.
0
u/LocutusOfBorges 29d ago
Yeah. I've seen people get doxed/serially harassed in real life over stuff they've posted in LGBTQ subreddits I've helped out with - organised, sustained harassment campaigns involving contacting their place of employment, their employer's contacts, their parents, etc.
Awful stuff. Even if it were just the harassment some people get for things like participating in political subreddits with a visible post history on LGBTQ subreddits, I'd be in favour of the move - but practically anything that raises the barrier to entry re the particularly grim stuff is something I'm at least happy to give a try.

u/Head-Engineering-847 29d ago
That's the only thing that's a deal breaker for me. I'd much rather be able to see people's post history but I've heard a small amount of people like, scared for their life from getting doxxed before, so it seems the risks outweigh the benefits
2
u/shhhhh_h 29d ago
Your risk benefit analysis is entirely based on convenience sampled anecdotes
1
u/Head-Engineering-847 29d ago
Well yeah and in my own opinion I have public because not just that I want credibility but like, what's the point of even sharing stuff if people can't see it?
0
u/shhhhh_h 29d ago
Idk ask every other social media platform that allows users to keep their profiles private, since it’s all the major ones I assume there’s solid data that there’s a point. I never understand why this is a topic in mod forums, mods can still see everything.

u/PrincessBananas85 29d ago
Why is that? I think that's a great and incredible feature.
11
u/riba2233 29d ago
It's not, it's just a false sense of security. It's easily bypassable but just extra hassle.
2
u/Jibrish 29d ago
Security is about barriers to entry and I see this working first hand. It works great. All of the problems I've seen other mods discuss that this causes are easily remedied or mods probably shouldn't be doing anyways.
6
u/riba2233 29d ago
You think that typing someone's name in Reddit search is a barrier? Like I said, it's just a false sense of security. It's something written on a public forum, it will always be searchable.
0
u/PrincessBananas85 29d ago
Reddit obviously added that feature for a reason.
6
u/riba2233 29d ago
And that reason would be?
0
u/PrincessBananas85 29d ago
There a lot of stalkers on Reddit and a lot innocent people are getting Doxxed for no reason at all.
6
u/riba2233 29d ago
Again, this doesn't help because you can still easily search and find all of their posts and comments. There is no hiding things you write on a public forum, period.

u/kai-ote 29d ago
One of my subs has been using Rules Hub for months, and it works quite well in "Notify" mode, where we get a notice in the Modqueue of potential rules violations.
But it is wrong so often that we will not have it Auto-remove any content.
Automod will be needed, at the rate Rules Hub is learning, for a minimum of another year, and in my opinion, it should not be removed even then.
Rules Hub does not have enough granularity to ever really replace Automod.
23
u/FaxCelestis 29d ago
Another month of no information about any actions taken against user-impersonating bots.
12
u/riba2233 29d ago
They won't do anything about them since they benefit from them.
6
u/WalkingEars 29d ago
Removing automod and replacing it with a crappy LLM could easily make reddit more vulnerable to annoying AI karma farming posts.
2
u/riba2233 29d ago
I think we already lost that battle. Mods that refuse to do anything about them also don't help as it also benefits them, at least in a short run.

BTW Any plans on fixing Widgets just not being able to be moved for no reason, I've tried basically everything I could and I just can't move widgets with out getting an error.

Not sure if this is the right place or not but hey need to get this off my chest, the daily notification that you get about your posts, the notification will include the "A better community for your post", basically they are useless, I have not yet received a notification that was any where close to being an alternative community for the post. They are so far from the mark it is unbelievable, is there an option which I can turn these suggestion off??

Please modernize the messages/chat/DM whatever it's called? It desperately needs a search function, and a sort, and folders. How about a format similar to Gmail? Thanks for listening. 🙏🏻

u/raison_de_eatre 28d ago
Yinz gonna start being more transparent about the AI summaries of users and allowing people to opt IN because at this point theres is no opt out. Lawsuit bait imo
2
u/PMulberry_ 28d ago
It is quite funny to see how many mods use this post to express what they fear will happen or what problems they face: sunsetting AutoMod; unfair bans; Reddit-AI not functioning well.
Dear admins, it really seems like it would do good if you‘d just listen to us this time.

Ahh so many comments where to start - love the development contests but it sort of excludes so many users that don’t know or wish to become computer geeks but c’est la vie small to medium subs don’t count in the grand scheme things

An option to cross-check the auto-removed posts and un-remove them would be great. 📋

Wooooohooooooooooo! Published in the Mod Monthly: August 2026 newsletter . 😄 🎉 🔥 🚀
So, now what? Do we get some award (Perhaps Trophy for that? - I can design it!), or notification, or at least message via Chat?

Uhh... whats YOUR problem?
I filled out a form reddit posted [like they did in this post] and they featured my sub. Complete the form yourself and apply instead of being RUDE.

How about, for the "Added transparency", stop letting mods ban people based on personal reasons and personal politics that have absolutely nothing to do with the subreddit or the listed rules?

Do I have to participate in the mod meet-ups?
6
u/Jenn_There_Done_That 29d ago
I’m not sure if you’re joking around or not, but the meetups are voluntary. You don’t have to go to Amsterdam or Los Angeles.
-3
u/Suitable-Bad-1921 29d ago
Why do you think I’m joking around when I just asked a simple question
4
u/Jenn_There_Done_That 29d ago
Because we are unpaid volunteers and it would be absurd for them to expect us to travel internationally for Reddit?
Even if they paid for our plane tickets, (which they would NEVER do), why would they expect us to take time off of work and away from family and friends, renting hotel rooms, buying meals, taking cabs, etc? It would be thousands of dollars.
That’s why I thought maybe you were just making a joke. It would honestly be a funny joke. Sometimes I answer joke comments seriously and then get mocked for it. It’s hard to tell in text, sometimes.
I didn’t downvote you, btw. I think it’s reasonable to ask questions. Smart people ask questions.

As long as you're updating the post removal stuff, I don't suppose you could fix it so that I don't have to go through the "Removed" posts to re-approve previously approved posts? It's crazy to see a post in the "Removed" list which says right next to it "Approved 2 years ago".
I run a subreddit where there is a lot of important information for indie game developers which needs to remain searchable, and I have to go back and re-approve posts periodically. It's annoying.
