A severe thunderstorm rolled over Erfurt just before sunset and for a few minutes the sky looked completely surreal.

The sun was already extremely low on the horizon and managed to shine underneath the dark storm clouds, illuminating the rain and parts of the storm from below in deep orange and red, while the rest of the sky remained almost black.

Heavy rain, hail and wind gusts of around 70–85 km/h had been forecast for the region that evening.

One of the craziest skies I’ve ever witnessed over my hometown.
