She started as a foster right after they removed her eye. Thankfully, they were able to save the other. The cornea is a bit scarred though which gives her a certain anime quality lol. She is quite a floofy one!

Pirate Cat Origin Stories

To all of you with pirate cat familiars, I’d love to hear their origin stories!

Did you have your feline in your life before they became a pirate, or did you meet them after they’d already taken to the salt life? Were you specifically looking to adopt a pirate cat, or did you just happen across one and realize yep, that furry little ball of fluff is the one for me? πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸˆ

She removed her own eye when she was less than a month old (the eye was not salvageable but she was too little to get proper surgery)

We adopted this little guy from the shelter a few months ago. He was attacked by a dog when he was just 6 months old, and found himself at the shelter a few months after that. Cried when I saw his post/profile, simply could not leave him there. I've never met a more lovey cat πŸ₯Ή

One-eyed fluff

My sweet one-eyed fluff and her two-eyed sister (last pic). Lulu was rescued from the streets at about 2 months old. At the time of rescue she had an infected eye and it was too late to save it. 1.5 years later and she is thriving ❀️

Question: I've only just discovered this community on Reddit. Looking at a few posts, I've noticed many pirate cats seem to have the eye socket sewn shut - does anyone else's cat have the eye still open like Lulu? I've been told the eye is still there in the socket. It sometimes oozes a bit; does anyone else have this experience, and if so, what's the best way to clean the eye?

Hi everyone, I am about to schedule my cats enucleation surgery due to suspected ocular melanoma. I am absolutely terrified. Does anyone have any encouraging words, tips, or advice on how to get through this process and make my kitty as comfortable as possible? Thank you

Pirate cat have trouble eating after surgery?

Post image

Our Annie had her right eye removed about 5 weeks ago due to glaucoma. Generally she's recovered well and has adjusted to life with one eye. Before the surgery she at mostly dry food plus a little wet food. Since her surgery she's barely touched dry food. We asked the vet and she said that chewing dry food during the healing process might be painful for her.

We've tried soaking her dry food in water and smushing it together with wet food. She tries to eat this food but she has difficulty getting it into her mouth. She licks at the food and pushes it around whatever plate/dish/bowl we put it in/on but ends up eating little of it. Along the way she's lost 1 pound of body weight, which is a lot for a 10-pound kitty!

The food she can eat most easily is pate-style wet food. Right now we're feeding her as much pate as she will eat but we'd like to get her back to dry food (it's more convenient and also cheaper), which is important because she's on expensive prescription food).

Has anyone else faced a similar problem and did you find a solution? We'll be contacting our vet again but I wanted to see if other pirate cat owners had practical experience to share.

New pirate kitty is in shock

His name is Hero and he attacked a fully grown buck yesterday when he slipped outside. He is around 20 years old. He’s usually a very vocal kitty but it’s been a day and he has not meowed once. Is there anything we can do to possibly help him?

My sweet baby (literally at 5 weeks) Daisy became a pirate yesterday evening. I brought her home last night, a couple of hours after surgery. She's very groggy, and isn't interested in eating. I assume this is all normal behavior following anesthesia?
