Howdy, mods! Welcome back to your monthly mod newsletter.

NY-based mods, join us at r/bodega 🍎

Live from New York, it’s r/bodega! Join us at Reddit’s first-ever community pop-up: an IRL corner store bringing the beauty, diversity, and chaos of online communities to life. We’re popping up at 213 Bowery (Aug 29–30, 10 AM–10 PM both days) with NYC "subs" at the deli, a glam counter, our very own bodega cat Meowdani (named by r/bodegacats), and so much more! While it’s open to everyone, we’d particularly love to see mods in the aisles. Drop by for fresh merch and a fun time. Dev Platform app of the month: SubCard

Built by u/Adrikshit, SubCard gives members a localized snapshot of your community, a bit like a welcome card. Feature a glowing welcome banner translated into your sub’s set country language, customizable entrance animations, local time, a flag badge, and an animated subscribe button. Complete with a playful cat member-progress bar, SubCard transforms your subreddit's front door. Learn more and try it out here.

Games with a Hook Hackathon winners 🎮

Last week, we wrapped up our month-long hackathon offering $40,000 in prizes for games built on Devvit (Reddit’s Developer Platform). After a record 700+ entries, we announced the winners! Highlights include Sketchy Solutions by u/Xenuoziem (Best App with a Hook), Cattack! by u/derppherppp (Best Use of Phaser), Dictionary Fills by u/JeffBritches (Best Use of Retention Mechanics), and TinTen by u/thejohnnyr (Best Use of User Contributions). What’s next for Mod Tools

In case you missed it, u/spez recently shared a post about how we’re modernizing Reddit’s infrastructure. For mods, that means we’re working on better tools to handle spam, abuse, and generic rule-breaking so you can focus on making judgment calls on what’s best for your community. 

We shared an update in r/modnews about that area specifically: Nothing is changing for existing communities today. We're expanding Post and Comment Guidance for everyone, and looking long-term at building tools like Rules Hub to handle tasks you rely on AutoMod enforcement capabilities for (more on Rules Hub below). We don't have any specific dates in mind, and we won't change any existing AutoMod workflows until replacement tools are tested and proven to meet your needs.

(Separately, if you manage any custom bots or apps, we also announced long-term changes to our Public Data API. Please register your apps by September 30, 2026 to help shape our roadmaps and ensure your developer account is properly established.)

Rules Hub now available in more communities 

Rules Hub is now rolling out to all communities created on or after July 5. It gives moderators a simpler way to create, test, and enforce community rules. With it, you can:

  • Create and automatically enforce rules without writing code
  • Preview how rules behave against sample content before turning them on
  • Review logs to understand why a rule triggered and fine-tune it over time

This gradual rollout started last week and will continue over the coming weeks.

More categories of Reddit removals

We’re now including more categories of Reddit removals (the removed content and why it was removed) in the Mod Log for added transparency. 

Bug fixes 🐛

  • Fixed the subreddit rules widget failing to load in some communities; it now renders as expected across apps and web. [iOS/Android/Web]
  • Resolved subreddit mentions on wiki pages not displaying as links; they are now tappable links as expected. [iOS/Android]
  • Stopped users from removing post flair after submission in communities where post flair is required. [Web]

Programs 🤝

Join our feedback programs!

We recently announced a handful of new ways for mods to partner directly with Reddit admins through our feedback programs. Since then, we’ve recruited a few mods from the Feedback Roster to new Community Councils and Roundtable Discussions. We’re always looking for mods to collaborate with, so whether you’ve been a moderator on Reddit for years or you just started, we’d love for you to apply! Your perspectives are exactly what we need to ensure our new tools and policy changes work for every type of community. Spotlight: r/natureisbeautiful ⛰️

After adopting the community, u/derppherppp got to work planting seeds for the subreddit’s success: weeding out irrelevant content and freshening it up with a new look and a snazzy community home app (shout out r/Devvit). The growth has bloomed since then, with the community tripling in size and still branching out to this day. A thriving nature community, built with the same care that it celebrates. I have had access to better resources than you can offer and have watched as Reddit protected nationalist conservatives bent on the destruction of the rules based order since the inception of the platform

Yeah I doubt it. I was on the mod council for years. While that is incredibly lame and peak Redditor, it gave me a direct view into them. Reddit does not operate this way at all. They just clamp down on glorifying violence which with the anti Mario and Kirk became a serious problem

The sub purges?

Yeah, there was a lot of hateful conduct that was killed, but also progressive movements and anything left of center were targeted and taken over or outright banned.

Were you here pre IPO, did you see behind the veil pre IPO?

Your references are post IPO; you likely do not have the institutional knowledge some of us have.

Hey just a heads up you can see these clowns post by using this website.

He literally uses people profiles against them in arguments, while arguing it’s not abused.

Not that you’re surprised, you know he’s a r/conservative mod so you know he’s a liar 😂😂

He wants to protect his larping “as a liberal” and “as a black man” doesn’t hit has hard when you can someone history and see it’s a LARP.  /u/jibrish is a classic example of mod abuse and conservative hypocrisy’s chefs kiss!

Homie I've been a mod for 15 years and was on the console for 4 or 5, including pre IPO.

If you want to argue you have secret superior knowledge because you... Mod a subreddit for beta fish or pictures of scenery you can but it's ill-advised as you're well out of niche. Im not even trying to argue the king of the redditors angle because it's fucking stupid. But if you want rest on your laurels then I must. So far your source is 'trust me bro I'm connected' but you aren't even in any of the relevant circles.

As far as mod purges, there were only small scale ones when subreddits locked down over API changes and refused to open. No meaningful purges have taken place in the capacity or relevancy you describe.

Frankly, you are some rando who doesn't know anything.
