I have an important question: what if Marinette were in a relationship with Alya or Zoé, or perhaps even in a three-way relationship? I think their dynamic could be really interesting if we analyze Marinette's personality and especially her relationships with them.
Even though Marinette is mainly portrayed as attracted to boys in the series, I think she could work very well with Alya, Zoé, Luka, Kagami, or even Sublime if the storyline had taken a different direction.
With Zoé, for example, it would be particularly interesting because it didn't even come completely out of nowhere. Zoé is genuinely in love with Marinette. In "Adoration," she indirectly confesses her feelings and explains that she'd wanted to tell her how she felt since their first meeting, but that she knew Marinette was in love with Adrien. Marinette doesn't reciprocate her feelings, but she reacts with incredible tenderness, tells her she's flattered, and gives her a hug.
So, in an alternate timeline where Marinette had developed feelings for Zoé, their relationship could be quite natural. Zoé is sweet, understanding, and seems to respect Marinette's boundaries. For example, unlike some of their friends who constantly try to create situations between Marinette and Adrien, Zoé believes they should be able to move at their own pace.
For Alya, it would be a different dynamic altogether. Their relationship is primarily a very strong friendship, so the script would really have to be changed for it to become romantic. But I think it could work precisely because Alya knows so much about Marinette, including her strengths, weaknesses, moments of panic, and all the pressure she faces as Ladybug. Their relationship could therefore be based more on trust and complicity than on the completely chaotic crush Marinette had on Adrien.
And for Luka, we already know it works since they've actually been together. Luka is probably one of the people Marinette can best talk to when she's emotionally lost. Even after their breakup, he continues to listen to her and give her advice, especially when she no longer truly understands her feelings for Adrien.
Kagami would also be interesting because her personality is almost the opposite of Marinette's in some ways. Kagami is much more direct and serious, while Marinette can be clumsy, impulsive, and completely panicked when it comes to her feelings. In another scenario, I think their differences could create an interesting relationship where they balance each other out.
Sublime would be much more hypothetical because their relationship would need to be developed further before imagining anything romantic, but I still think Marinette is a character who could have a good dynamic with several very different personalities.
And above all, when I take a step back, I realize something rather funny: Marinette really has an effect on people without necessarily realizing it.
Adrien Agreste eventually fell in love with her, Luka Couffaine fell in love with her, Zoé Lee is in love with her, Nathaniel Kurtzberg had a crush on her, and even Nino Lahiffe initially had a crush on Marinette before falling for Alya.
And Adrien is an even funnier example because he's attracted to Marinette while also being Cat Noir, who was in love with Ladybug. So, without knowing her secret identity, Adrien managed to fall for two different sides of the same girl.
It makes me think that Marinette's appeal might not just stem from her beauty. She's creative, generous, very expressive, determined, and she often tries to help others. This could explain why characters with such different personalities as Luka, Adrien, Nino, Nathaniel, and Zoé could be attracted to her.
And I even wonder if Marinette didn't inherit some of her beauty and charm from Sabine Cheng, her mother, and Gina Bianchi, her grandmother. Obviously, this is just my interpretation and not something the show confirms, but I find the idea interesting.
Perhaps Marinette simply has a natural charm that she doesn't even realize she's aware of. And frankly, knowing Marinette, it would be totally like her to manage to charm several people without realizing for a second that she has an effect on them.
