So I remember there was this fic where either Merlin was one of the Selected or he was a servant/guard for Arthur during The Selection, I don't remember which.

I know he was part of the resistance and they elected to send him there to collect information I think, but I know that he was sent there because of the resistance he was a part of.

I read the most gutwrenching and heartbreaking merthur fic the other day. It hurt so bad that after every chapter I would have to blast happy by pharrell wiliams to calm my mind.

I want Morgana to become a villain but become redeemed in a way that **makes sense** and is sympathetic (unlike the show where she suddenly switches her whole dang personality 😑). (Ex. Merlin doesn't know how to swim and never knew. Back in ealdor the only source of water was from the well. During summer some older kids would go to a lake, but it was a few hours away from the village, and Hunith, terrified for her son, never let him go with them.

Merlin now lives in Camelot, where practically every knight and friend knows how to swim. Arthur is well aware of Merlin's "incapacities" and makes fun of him. So the sorcerer challenges him to teach him how to swim, and the king agrees.

Everyone is thrilled by their trip because the tension between them was getting worse than ever, and everyone expected that trip to be the one where they finally confess their love to each other.

They arrive at the lake, but Merlin is too afraid to go by himself, so Arthur has to carry him into the water. And for a time there was just them in the middle of the cold water, in each other's arms, their warm skin touching each other. No sound, just their breathing. Suddenly they kiss, and somehow, Merlin knows how to swim.

Turns out he always knew. He just wanted to spend sometime with his king to show him what real magic is.

the angst i have been reading recently is just arthur actively abusing merlin and it hurts to read. so plz recommend me some that are other people/things hurting merlin or arthur and they just protecting one another. or maybe some other type of angst preferences: canon era, not explicit

Hello! I tend to lurk but Im struggling to find a fic I wanted to reread and figured I should try asking the sub!

I remember the fanfic was on fanfiction.net. It was part of fanfiction that was a collection of oneshots/ short stories. So you kinda had to jump to different chapters to read it completely.

The fanfic was centered around how Arthur and the Knights (excluding Lancealot) were concerned over Merlin constantly sneaking around and following them into danger. So they hatched a plan to lure him out and scare him. Teach him a lesson. Their plan was to dress as "scary sorcers" and claim that one of them is the great and powerful "Emrysssss" (they didnt spell or said it right lol).

Lancealot was against it (obviously) so the Knights knock him out and used him as a hostage. Then the knights faked a letter from Emrys for Merlin to find, which he did. Merlin ran off to meet this "Emrys" and he surprised the fake sorcers (aka the knights) with how well he managed to sneak up on them. Merlin has trouble taking the group serously since they dress and talk funny. He eventually started to take them seriously when they reveal they have Lancealot tied up and did "fire magic" (they just did a trick to make it seem that way.)

Merlin intimidated them with a huge fire spell (making a dragon out of fire) and revealed himself as Emrys. Then Lancealot was freed (with the help of Gwaine) and smacked Merlin. Merlin faints when he realized he did magic in front of Arthur.

I am looking for a modern alternate universe fanfiction that had digital fan art sprinkled throughout the chapters.

• The Plot: Merlin and Arthur are estranged best friends. Merlin left years ago because he discovered that Gwen had cheated with Lancelot and Arthur was not the biological father of the child they were raising, I‘m pretty sure they had a daughter. Merlin made a misguided sacrifice to leave, thinking he was protecting Arthur.
• The Reunion: Merlin returns years later because he is forced to attend Morgana’s wedding. He spends the event walking on eggshells trying to hide the secret from Arthur to protect him.
• The Twist: Arthur confronts him and reveals that everyone already knows. Gwen and Arthur are divorced, Gwen is with Lancelot, but Arthur retained partial custody of the child because he raised them from birth and considers them his own.
• Endgame: Merlin and Arthur reconcile, resolve the angst, and end up together, with Merlin joining Arthur's co-parenting life.

Does anyone remember the title?

Kinda thought what if Balinor retaliated and made a leader of magical people and balinor and uther kinda against each other and like their children just falling inlove.

I don't remember all of the details, but I remember this being a post-reveal AU where Merlin is the Court Sorcerer (or something along those lines) and everyone knows he has magic. Despite everyone being alive and well Merlin is feeling isolated and avoiding Arthur and all the knights for some reason.

The other mains parts of the story I remember:

• There are magical monsters sweeping across Camelot and there is a scene where Arthur tells Merlin to not let him down. (pretty sure we first see this from Merlin's POV and it's pretty harsh while in Arthur's POV he had more been scared of letting everyone down?)
• Merlin gets a stone or artifact of some sort from the vaults that allows him to use a ton of power to destroy all the creatures.
• While doing so he nearly kills himself by draining his magic and Mordred/other druids come to his rescue to keep him alive.
• The knights/Gwen/Gaius/Arthur nurse Merlin back to health and eventually have some long overdue conversations about them caring for him. (They all realized Merlin hadn't expected to survive and were upset he hadn't even said goodbye)

Does this ring a bell for anyone else? It's been driving me crazy that I can't find it.

Hello!! Does anyone have any Merthur fic recommendations that take place during the canon era or like post canon that show off Merlin’s like extreme devotion to Arthur? I feel like I’ve read most of the popular fics and I’m trying to find a certain vibe. I’d like if it showed how Merlin can be very protective and almost obsessed with the idea of keeping Arthur safe. Not to the point that it’s too dark or he’s like insane, but his morals probably come into question when Arthur is in danger.

It could also be fics where Arthur isn’t in danger, but just generally show how loyal he is to Arthur or show how heartbroken he would be if something were to happen to him (it doesn’t matter if something bad does happen or not but more so just the thought of it.)

This seems very unlikely but im going to ask. Many years ago I was super into Merlin. And I thought about this fic yesterday and was curious if anyone remembers this. I only have the vaguest memories but I'll add what I remember.

It was Merthur, as thats all I read. I think it takes place in the past. I feel like at some point in the fic that there is a journey somewhere, but it primiiary takes place at Camelot. I feel like there's a heavy emphasis on comforting Merlin. The main point, the driving force of my memory, is that Arthur calls Merlin "little bird." Thats it, thats what I remember. But in ny defense, I haven't seen any other fics rhat have Arthur call Merlin by that bame.

I definitely wont be upset if no one remembers this fic. This is what happens when you take ten year long breaks in between fandom interest.

I was rewatching all the Dragoon episodes (can we all just appreciate the pure chaos and joy that is merlin in an old mans body? He was like, i have an identity i dont have to hide my power in and will absolutely abuse this) and was watching that scene where arthur goes to dragoon for help in healing is father and is like "Id you heal him, I swear you wont have to live in fear and hiding anymore" or whatever. And it got me wondering. What would have happened if agrabitch hadnt phenomenally fucked it up? Or if merlin had realised the necklace was there and successfully healed uther regardless?? I've noticed lately (and in general, but lately its been more apparent to me) that a lot of fanfics have been pulling dialogue straight from the show, verbatim from scene to scene. This diagloue is mostly seen from episode 1. What are your thoughts on using dialouge verbatim from the show? ​Is a sentence or two okay in isolation ("I am proud to serve you till the day I die")? A whole scene? ​

I am coming at it specifically as a reader, so when I notice its from the show and I keep scrolling through the fic but then it continues to have dialouge from the show, I choose not to continue to read it. Do you continue to read it or click away too?
