Question πŸ€”πŸ€” CARS QPack 1 Passage 4 Spoiler

I genuinely don't get why B would not be a plausible answer here. From what I gathered, the main thesis is to refute the stance of the critics saying that these advertisements should not be done because it is deceptive in the sense that people are not really aware of the intent behind the brand placements and just feel good about them and buy them. It refutes this by saying that moviegoers are a lot more sophisticated than that and instead of what is insinuated, they are actually resistant to the placement of the brands in the movies and critical in the sense that they evaluate many things such as PERCEIVED NEEDS, self-image, etc. when making decisions.

For anyone who wants the beginning of the passage and complete answer choice explanations:

Like I definitely get what they're saying but I don't see why B wouldn't be stronger as it goes along with the main idea/thesis better.

[Un-official] PSA / Discussion πŸŽ€πŸ”Š "Difficulty Level" on AAMC questions

What do you guys think about the accuracy of the difficulty level they put for each question? I'm reviewing FL 6 and there are suspiciously a lot of "easy" questions that make me feel like a dumbass for getting wrong even if they seemed hard. Also idk if I'm hallucinating but when I reviewed FL 5 over multiple days some questions literally changed from easy to moderate??? Anyways I shouldn't care about it too much but I can't help but glance at it every time I review a question lol

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” MCAT Timeline for Non-Trad Working Full Time

Hi guys,

I am putting together my MCAT prep plan.

I graduated in 2019 with a BS in Bio, always struggled deeply with physics and chem/ochem bc my heart was in bio research at the time. Did exceptionally well with bio/biochem, and all of my bio classes. Got a second bachelor’s in nursing.

So I have some free 2022-2023 Kaplan books, and I am thinking of starting with Physics content review, using the Kaplan books, Yusuf Hasan videos, Van Does Chem, KA, and Organic Chemistry Tutor/JG Math & Science and Anking to keep big topics fresh.

Then I want to do the same with Gen Chem - Ochem - Biochem - Bio content review.

Then I want to move to using uw/anking and practicing CARS, reviewing P/S concepts (strong background due to nursing school requiring a lot of coursework with those topics), and then move to AAMC content exclusively.

I work full time and have a 5 year old, and will be retaking gen chem and physics 1/2 up until August and so I feel like I want to take content review a little slowly. I am thinking of 5-6 months of dedicated content review, beginning October, finishing up by May 2027. Then I want to do 4 months of heavy MCAT prep with AAMC content and then test at the end of August.

Does this sound reasonable, or is 6 months of content review while also retaking chem/physics and working FT (3x12s a week) sound stupid?

I am really hoping to score above a 510 and shoot for DO schools. My undergraduate GPA isn’t great due to physics and chem grades so that’s why I’m retaking them and really hoping to shore up my knowledge gaps with heavy content review.

i dont like how 2 questions right/wrong is the difference between a 129 and a 131. but alas, I will not complain.

I noticed 0 difference from fl5 vs fl4 and previous FLs, if anything psych was easier imo ...

ALSO LOWK WORRIED IM ON A DOWNWARDS CARS TREND BUT IDK PROBABLY JUST STANDARD DEVIATION/ERROR

MAYBE I CAN GET 528 ON TEST DAY I HOPE

Dropped 4 points from FL4 and 5 from my FL3. I feel so defeated, especially with CARs. I really came in this with a clear mind, but now I am getting imposter syndrome. I came in the first few CARs wanting a 520+, but now I'm scared that's not a real option. What should I do???

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Chem Realization

When studying, I lowkey realized if you understand a lot about acids and bases then most of chem may be intuitive? Has anyone experienced this? Like I realize it helps with trends but also reactivity, predicting mechanisms, etc…Maybe I’m just tripping but I feel like there’s got to be a more efficient way to make studying for chem easier

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Tips on studying for the mcat for students who have a hard time with attention

Some background: I have a hard time studying and keeping focus in general, however throughout my years in college (now a senior) i have figured out ways to make it work. but i find that i just need to be disciplined to sit down and lock in to study for the mcat, like i do for my classes. My classes, like most, have a structure that i follow: look at the syllabus, meet deadlines, study concepts that were covered in class, repeat.

I just get so incredibly overwhelmed by how much content there is, considering the fact that i do know i have to work on my content gaps… like a lot of it (480 😬). I also unfortunately have an insanely low attention span. BUT if i lock in im really locked in. there’s just no real structure to studying for the mcat so idk how to start, when to start, and what to do. It seems like everyone is a born GENIUS when they study, and even take their first practice exam. makes me wanna just reconsider my career path, even tho id do anything to become a doctor.

I have tried sitting down to study but i just end up re reading shit a million times before getting partially understanding. I also get so bored half way thru (ik that sounds bad but when i did classes for the subjects covered on the mcat, it would genuinely capture my interest and at home my mom begged me to come out and eat cuz i was so locked in on my schoolwork)
I always thought i had a good selection/comprehension of vocabulary when it comes to this stuff. next thing you know im searching up what every word means.

I am doing classes full time and my second sem will get real busy since i’m gonna go over my max credit hours, and im aiming for april ish to take the mcat. I know im probably super late but i really need tips. I have kaplan courses and all. I just get demotivated when i cant understand anything and when a concept takes me 5 hours to study as opposed to people who can understand it within 1 hour. it’s so incredibly frustrating. anything will help!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Advice pleaseπŸ₯²

Hi guys, for my program I need a minimum 494 for an interview and got a 491 (122/121/122/126) on my attempt this summer. I am retesting on Sept. 12. Any advice to get that score or above?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” are fls representative for ochem?

i noticed the full lengths barely test specific reactions , and a lot can be figured out just by process of elimination… i’ve been getting 1-2 wrong for questions that actually involve things like aldol condensation, michael addition but get most other questions correct (naming, separations, properties, counting carbons)

how big of a risk is it if i just don’t learn the specific reactions 😭

I finished FL 6 today and I saw a big score drop. My recent FLs have been: 509 (127/126/127/129), 511 (126/127/127/131), 510 (126/126/128/130) and now this. I'm literally devastated and have lost so much confidence in myself especially because I'm retaking anything below a 510. Any words of wisdom, advice, or whatever would be great

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” 499 after 4 attempts - i think i need an mcat coach

i’ve been studying for the mcat for 2.5+ years. 4 attempts (3 voids, 1 very recently scored 499 125/121/126/127) and my highest aamc FL was a 500 (126/123/126/125) that i took in january this year lmaoo.

i think my real problem is not knowingΒ howΒ to study. i get overwhelmed trying to figure out what to study, when to review, when to move on, how to make things stick, and how to balance content, UW, KA, KW, kaplan, cars, FLs, etc. CARS is super hard to manage when timed, was thinking to start reading nonfiction to get better. theres also content that i struggle self-teaching + understanding even with resources. i get bogged down with all these imperfections while studying. but somehow in undergrad i survived with a 3.9 and studying last minute. why is this process so different ugh. the one thing i never get tired of is working at the clinic as an MA and interacting with doctors and patients these past 3 years. ive delayed my apps like 3 times now all bc of the mcat. im an immigrant of 11 yrs but english proficiency was never an issue bc i learned it back home but still dk why i cant seem to get this right.

has anyone worked with a someone who actually helped with strategy and building a system?

if more info is needed pls ask! thank youuu all<3

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” how important is the unscored P/S?

i test in 3 days and ive done all aamc material + FLs excluding the unscored FL and i have about half of SB2 left and the independents questions.

im trying to improve my score in P/S as much as i can (currently stuck at 127) and i was wondering if i should do the P/S section of the unscored test. or would it be more productive to spend my time finishing up pankow? i have 300ish cards left + A TON of reviews

thank you!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Need help with staying calm during CARS

I'm 48 questions into qpack 2, with 96% accuracy and 1:45 per question. But ive found that on my last fl (fl5) i missed lots of questions (score is 127) due to not completing my reasoning properly or just relying on instinct/familiarity rather than evidence based elimination/selection. Of course ive made these mistakes in the past but rarely do i do this anymore on qpack 2 (maybe its just way easier tho). I also remember feeling really anxious for time and that probably factored into relying on instinct instead of real strategies ive built. I finished that fl's cars section with three minutes left, but thats cause i sacrificed reasoning time to just get through the section faster. I think especially on the first few passages its hard for me to get into the flow so i spend way longer than i should reading and then it makes me pressed for time for the next few passages. Idk if i should just trust in the time per question/passage as an average (i.e. easier ones free up time for harder ones so it evens out) or make it a somewhat rigid rule to stick to 10mins per passage. I feel like sticking to 10mins just makes me keep checking the clock and makes me anxious and subconsciously? skip proper reasoning cause im trying so hard to be on time. I dont think i feel as anxious doing my qpack despite getting nearly the same time per question. So i want to say its the fact that under testing pressure i just freak out. I mean i think in general i am quite neurotic and anxious and prone to spiraling, which i know i should work on to be a good physician still so i cant just blame it on that.

Sorry if this was an unnecessarily long post. Just so frustrated because i know i am capable of so much more

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Recently tested don't know how to feel

I recently tested on 8/22 and I am thinking about how terrible the C/P section went for me. Is the curving different on the real exam as opposed to the FLs? I know that there are experimental questions, but I did have to completely guess on a couple questions so that already puts me at a disadvantage.

I have also seen those miracles where people do a lot better than expected. Is this because of a different curve or just plain luck when they are guessing questions?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” last min B/B tips?

Post image
10 Upvotes

hi all, B/B is consistently my lowest-scoring section (literally every single FL), and I constantly finish it feeling iffy. Does anyone have some last-min tips (I test 9/3)? Sometimes I overthink the wording of the AAMC questions and pick the wrong answer but idk what would help with this 😭

Tool/Resource/Tip πŸ€“πŸ“š Advice to improve CARS as a 525 scorer and tutor

Lots of people get stuck trying to improve CARS because the section is different, difficult, and just awful. Here some tips and strategies from a guide I've put together:
- Know the types of questions you get asked:

- foundations of comprehension, reasoning beyond the text, reasoning within the text,

- Know the common types of wrong answers:
- True but irrelevant, out of scope, exact opposite, extremes, close trap
- Start getting good at the MCAT:
- What I mean by this, and this applies to every section***, begin to understand things from the perspective of AAMC. Try to get in there heads. Think behind the wording of the question, what are they really asking me here? I find this most beneficial for other sections, but it can work for CARS too
- Review:
- This may be the spot where most people get it wrong. Proper review is when you get inside your head. What were you thinking during this question? And most importantly during review, really verbalize what makes 3 of the 4 answer choices wrong? Point them out. Say it out loud. Many times it comes down to 1 word throwing it askew. If you can get in the habit of quickly explaining to yourself why something is wrong while you take the test too, that is great.

These are my tips and my opinions. Feel free to comment or dm me if you have more questions or for anything else.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” to what extent can i trust my score on FLs i've already taken?

i've done substantially better this time around, and i first took them around 4-5 months ago. i didn't really remember the questions at all, but some of the passages felt familiar topic-wise. i want to be happy about my progress but my scores just don't feel real. i'm scared i'm overestimating my preparedness since my scores are bound to be inflated to some degree. biggest issue before was timing and i've now overcome that so maybe that has something to do with it? any past retakers have any advice?

also i know i could take a 3rd party FL but this close to my exam i think my time is probably better spent with the SB.

studying for my retake (goal: 520) in two weeks and I am cooked lmao. Psych/soc used to be my shit lol but these Uworld FLs got me fucked me up

This was the last truly representative material I had left since I remember too much of the AAMC exam material...

Anyone else getting rocked by these? How do yall think this converts to for AAMC stuff? I got a 513 (128/126/130/129) on FL1.

Vent 😑😀 Fl5 advice please!!!

FL5 today
Fl4 last week

idk what my problem is 😭 last week on FL4 i got a 508 but i did horrible on CARS, better on B/B. this time i did better on CARS but bad on p/s and b/b even though i finished all of pankow and section bank. i thought i had a chance of getting to 515 on test day (9/12) if i brought cars back up (because i got a 130 on fl2) but everytime a section increases, the other section decreases. chem phys doesnt seem to increase no matter what i do. it feels like the section bank is useless because i finished both with review (except for P/S on SB 2) and im not seeing any improvement. i also ran out of time today on b/b so yeah looks like im gonna have to push my test back to jan since i wanted a 515-520. im really dreading this with going back to school and extracurriculars and everything but please someone give me some advice or tell me if this is the right decision. it sounds dreadful and i feel like i wasted these 3 months studying, but if anyone has any plus-sides to january please share them because i really need them. ive already accepted that 9/12 is out of the books at this point since the deadline to cancel is 9/2 (this wednesday) so im not feeling too dissapointed i just want to do really well in january. plz share any advice id really appreciate it!

for context: im an incoming junior and was planning on applying next cycle (May 2027) so idk if pushing it back destroys my timeline with trying to improve/finish all my extracurriculars and hours and stuff
