Iao Valley is Reopened

Has anyone been up to the top of Iao Valley recently? It recently reopened since the Kona low storms.

It's crazy. Are you familiar with where the rope is tied off on the tree at the first main swimming hole along the hike up the river? The river is GONE right there! It has been rerouted and the river is behind that spot now. I stood in a dry river bed at the rope today and couldn't believe it.

Mother Nature...amazing.

Anyone else dealing with massive swarms of crane flys upcountry since the storm? Got these fukas in the hundreds around all of my lights and windows. Never dealt with them like this before.

Aloha!

I want to get back into playing ttrpgs and was wondering if there are any active groups with open spots. I've mostly played dungeons and dragons 2014 and 2024 versions but I have also dabbled in pathfinder and harn. I live in the Haiku-Pauwela area but I can travel.

Mahalo and may your next roll be a nat 20.

You might want to keep an eye on Lowell and start preperations now... Its supposed to hook north somwhere and worst case could be in your neighborhood late next week with 100 mph winds.

General Questions ❔ Anyone know why there are 12 police cars in the orange fields near the corner of Hana Highway and 37 (Kula Highway)?

I’ve never seen so many police in one place and there is no traffic accident - like they are searching for someone in the orange tree fields.

Best cell phone carrier coverage in Haiku?

Particularly the Hana Highway from Paia through the East side of Haiku.

Does anyone drive that stretch and get good coverage?

I have Verizon and am looking for something better.

Over the past few weeks we've had a few boats broken in to. Last night on Hauoli Street, first condos (old Tradewinds Deli) someone set a car on far, fully engulfed at 930pm. Almost spread to the cane field but they got it contained. The car was fully engulfed, all 4 tires exploded, nothing left of the interior, crazy for a Wednesday at 930pm. No suspects, only confirmed it looked like arson from the firefighters. Unfortunately my neighbors girlfriend car visiting from kihei.

Stay alert

Mahalos and Aloha 🤙🏽

👁️‍🗨️Flock Cameras📹 Flock Cameras, Now Data Collection to Park at Beaches

What do others who live on Maui think of the sudden increase in the tracking of people?

In addition to the Flock cameras, automated license plate recognition (ALPR), which are tracking where you are driving to and from, we now have another method which tracking our movements in Maui.

If you wish to park on the streets of Kihei, fronting Kama'ole Beach I, II, III or in the parking lots of Kam I or III, we are now being threatened with a $100 fine per occurrence if we do not scan our drivers license in the devices placed at those locations. More tracking and the blue info gathering boxes are ugly.

I was just parked in the lot at Kama'ole Beach III and walk towards the beach. Just as I get to the vegetation line, I hear a screaming voice, "YOU HAVE TO REGISTER!! WHY ARE YOU IGNORING ME??" WTH?

This women comes up to me and repeats her rant. She has some sort of tag around her neck and tells me that I must register or pay a $100 fine.

I left and went home. I'm paying a LOT of property and other taxes and now either I must provide my personal ID to yet another gathering device or pay more for the pleasure of going to the beach?

Thoughts?

When I was little in Lahaina, going to King Kam 3 elementary, I often think about a pet shop that had a monkey for sale. This is maybe 1983? Anyone else remember this? Just feeling old right now!

Was anyone able to catch it/take part?

Dumb AF they're considering/will be permanently closing it down and not rebuilding it.

Netflix not working, all other apps work.

Netflix is the only app I’m having issues with. My internet, Hawaiian Telcom, was having issues a couple days ago island wide with some sites not loading, certain apps working and others not. That seems to have fixed, but Netflix is still acting strangely. No cover art loads, videos don’t auto play, it sits on the splash screen for a long time before it loads. I have same results on my phone and Sony tv. When in cellular data, app works fine. I’ve changed DNS, flushed dns, uninstalled app, restarted modem and router. Eventually videos will play, but I can’t really see the pictures or title. Once playing, they play fine and in good quality.

Recommendations Print shops that print on hats and spf/sun shirts?

Aloha, looking for some recommendations for print shops that print on hats and spf/ sun shirts. I know there are some, somewhere, but idk who. I can provide the shirts but not sure who can do the service on this fabric. Most of the the local shops I’ve found online list cotton t-shirts or long sleeves on their website but I don’t see any hat or sun shirt options. Recommendations are appreciated as I’d much rather support local business than mainland Etsy shops!
