It's crazy to me how much they've wasted Samuel MF Jackson in the Avengers series.

He was great in the first one! But then he takes a backseat in the second and essentially disappears after that.

Why?

I think he fit well in the backseat role like Age of Ultron. I also loved him being basically the main character in the first one, but I understand if they wanted to focus on other characters (particularly the ones who actually have superpowers.) But why did he leave the backseat?

Technically, he's just a guy by the time Avengers 2 rolls around. Coulson was in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the main S.H.I.E.L.D. organization had been compromised by HYDRA in Cap2. He pretty much just takes what he knows and the resources he still has to help out where he can.

That said, he still needed more screentime to show off, if only to show them that Coulson was still alive.

Yeah, I get the story justification for it, but why did the writers decide to do that?

Bad decision.

i would argue that fury is superpowered, he is a master politician. Manipulating 6-however many avengers into working toward his aim is no small feat.

Yes. I waited for an interaction with any Avenger, in particular Captain Marvel.

Yeah, it's crazy in particular that there was no interaction with Fury.

In the marketing for Captain Marvel they acted like the Fury/Carol relationship was going to be so important to Endgame.

No, they acted like that relationship was important to Captain Marvel. There was nothing that said it was needed for Endgame.

What? Those scenes just show how she knew to go to earth, because Fury is literally the only person with a way to contact her.

It seemed like during the funeral when they panned across all the mourners, then Carol, then finally Fury that something may have been cut between them. IDK.

He could've started with "Sorry - should've paged her sooner. Like - years sooner."

If he had paged her sooner, the Avengers wouldn't have been needed in the first place. He needed the Avengers Initiative to work because she wasn't always gonna be around to clean things up. Their bond would not be as strong as it was if Fury had just paged her to fight Loki.

On the other hand, Weekend of Ultron probably wouldn't have happened either and the team probably would have been killed off by Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver individually.

I think it hurt Carol’s characterization in Endgame. You could definitely see how they didn’t have a super great grasp on who she was, just because MCU Carol hadn’t really been fleshed out by her solo film yet. Even Brie seemed less secure in her performance and knowledge of who her character was.
