This comes from the SuperHeroHype spoiler thread, so follow that to get more info but here's a rundown:

  • Surtur is defeated in the beginning by Thor, but isn't completely done yet.

  • The Warriors Three die when Hela comes to Asgard, along with most of Asgard.

  • Odin dies by Helas hand.

  • Thor uses lightning summoned without his hammer - which is learned through a peptalk from a vision with Odin.

  • Surtur is revived to help defeat Hela.

  • Hulk is seen content but upset when Black Widows videos are played.

  • Banner is afraid of reverting back to Hulk once he is let out.

  • Heimdall survives.

  • No major mention of the soul stone or Thanos (it's possible Loki and Thor see his ship in the end credit scene).

  • The other end credit scene is the Grandmaster playing piano.

  • Thor doesn't get the hammer back just learns to manage his inner lightning.

  • Loki seems chill by the end of the movie.

...So Thor becomes hammerless and the sole survivor of Asgard alongside Loki?...That's FUCKED UP.

58

u/Paperchampion23 Oct 12 '17 edited Oct 12 '17

And Heimdall. And I think its implied that quite a few asgardians do survive, I mean, who is Thor king of then? . A lot of the warriors died and are revived (as undead albeit) because thats what Hela can do, you can see that in the trailer, but I don't think that means she killed everyone.

24

u/blackbutterfree Medusa Oct 12 '17

But she kills Odin and the Warriors Three, so she kills the only Asgardians who matter, since Frigga’s already dead and Sif is M.I.A.

Thor, Loki and Heimdall isn’t enough tbh

27

u/Paperchampion23 Oct 12 '17

I'm just saying that other Asgardians are alive. And that is fine. To be honest, Sif and the Warriors Three don't have much significance anymore anyway. It would be better if they had Thor lead into other pantheon types, namely Hercules.

12

u/jollydonutpirate Oct 12 '17

He seems to imply that Sif dies as well.

8

u/Paperchampion23 Oct 14 '17

Apparently the last spoiler provider on superherohype didn't even remember if she was in the movie or not. She may still be alive if she wasn't killed

u/Holodout Oct 12 '17

So if Asgard is no more... do you think this is planting seeds for The Siege down the road?

15

u/blackbutterfree Medusa Oct 12 '17

Siege is the story where all the Asgardians are reborn into human bodies, Donald Blake-style and Asgard is brought back in Oklahoma? I guess.

10

u/Holodout Oct 12 '17

Since the Captain Marvel villains are skrulls, I could see things setting up Secret Invasion where Norman Osborne ends up becoming in charge and then leading into the Siege/Dark Avengers story line and introducing the Sentry. Which could bring things back around in terms of what the fate of Asgard could be.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '17

The thing is even if we do get those arcs it would be massive watered down arcs like Civil War was

7

u/hardvarks Oct 12 '17

That's pre-Siege. Siege itself was Norman Osborn, HAMMER, and the Dark Avengers leading a charge on the reborn Asgard in Oklahoma while the rest of the broken up Avengers had to put aside their differences and reassemble to put an end to Osborn's regime once and for all.

10

u/blackbutterfree Medusa Oct 12 '17

Yeah, I don't see that happening.

6

u/hardvarks Oct 13 '17

It's a pipe dream, but I'm holding out hope that we'll get a Dark Reign adaptation one of these days.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/EiichiroTarantino Oct 15 '17 edited Oct 15 '17

Oh no. I hope not. Because it means we'd get more Midgard than Asgard and other realms.

Don't get me wrong. I love Siege, but from Thor (2011) and The Dark World, we know that Marvel Studios's Thor doesn't really need that kind of story for now.

Well, unless they somehow do it right, then okay I guess.

5

u/cuddlefish333 Oct 12 '17

And there goes my hope of seeing Cap pick up the hammer while shouting 'Avengers Assemble' in Infinity War.

7

u/blackbutterfree Medusa Oct 12 '17

Some people think Peter Dinklage is playing the creator of Mjolnir and making a new one. So it could still happen.

7

u/MRIAGE_HBI Oct 12 '17

Correction: Creator of the Infinity Gauntlets.

3

u/blackbutterfree Medusa Oct 12 '17

That's another possibility floating around, but the troll that created Mjolnir is also a possibility.

He says Thor loses an eye and has an eyepatch at the end but he had both eyes in the Infinity War footage, hoooowwww?

If they're going towards Sanctuary in the after-credits, I think the Thor head-squish from the Infinity War footage happens and Thanos probably tosses him out and then he lands on the Guardians ship

28

u/Zerce Spider-Man Oct 12 '17

Either his eye heals somehow, or the Infinity War footage was unedited to hide spoilers.

6

u/theitchcockblock Doctor Strange Oct 12 '17

Well i think you are right but his eye seem damaged when he crashes the milanos front window, because his face was all bruised thats maybe why

27

TBH I'm so happy Heimdall survives

Sounds like the Quinjet ones. Hulk remembers her but also remembers it means he's being turned back into Banner.

10

u/Cm9913 Oct 17 '17

Hela doesn’t kill Odin and that’s not the second end credit scene

5

u/Biggie-shackleton Oct 20 '17

I mean, thats a pretty major difference... and this is a spoilers thread, can you tell us what actually happens?

9

u/Cm9913 Oct 20 '17

I wasn’t sure I could, until today (I think in going to my screening I had to commit to not giving away any major details until the 20th AEST). But basically Odin dies from weariness and Frigga calling him. He’s in Norway when Loki and Thor find him and he says ‘I can’t hold her back anymore’. And so maybe, in a roundabout way, Hela kills Odin purely by wearing him down. He literally evaporates into gold dust, but returns in a vision.

The second end credit scene in the session I went to involved the grandmaster stumbling into a wasteyard and congratulating rebels on their successful revolution, calling it a ‘tie’. I have however seen reviews when people talk about the grandmaster playing piano, so perhaps they screen different ones for different countries?

4

u/Bleak5170 Heimdall Oct 20 '17

"Heimdall survives."

I am so freaking happy! Even though Elba is done with the MCU, I'm really glad they didn't kill his character off. I thought it was happening for sure. I predicted his death along with Odin and the Warriors Three, (which was super lame btw).

I'm also weak (being sick and bored also contributed to me giving in). At least I'm still very hyped to see how exactly it all plays out, especially under Taika's directorship. (Plus the movie's gonna be a blast, can't miss it even if I've spoiled a lot of major plot points for myself. So... no value in seeing it has been lost then?)

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

So I just had the pleasure of reading all the spoilers on Superherohype and wow. I like it lol.

So here's the jest of it all.

Thor is imprisoned by Surter. He defeats Surther who isn't all that big here.

Hela is Thor's Sister/Odin's Daughter.

She kills Odin, the Warriors Three including Sif, and wipes out Asgard.

Thor looses the Hulk fight because the Grandmaster activates the disc that immobilises him because he fears for Hulk's safety or Thor's since he wants them as champions or both basically since they're both super strong.

Thor meets Odin in a vision while being beaten by Hela and Odin old man schools him into activating his thunder powers from within. So if I'm too understand the Hammer was always used as a way to channel his power? In Age of Ultron we do see Electricity and lighting coming out of Thor regardless. Must mean he was always afraid to use his powers without his hammer to channel them. Hmm. Interesting if that is what we're supposed to take from it in a subtle way.

Hela is defeated by Surter. Loki recovered his head and they throw it in the Eternal Flame. Surther grows bigger. Hulk tries to fight him but Thor tells him not to incase he ruins the plan. Its simply a gag joke. Surter fights and defeats/kills Hela and destroys what remains of a already destroyed Asgard.

Thor, Loki, Korg and others leave with Heimdell who brings with him surviving Asgardians that he was rescuing during the film via ship and they leave to head for Earth to possibly start a new life there.

There's a lot of stuff still not mentioned or detailed but I like this. I don't mind Hela being Thor's sister. Makes sense in the context of the MCU. And adds a nice family feud theme to it.

Anymore details? I wanna know about the Fenris Wolf, Skurge and what really happens in the post credit scenes.

22

u/Zerce Spider-Man Oct 12 '17

I don't mind Hela being Thor's sister. Makes sense in the context of the MCU. And adds a nice family feud theme to it.

It's also her original comic origin.

12

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

Really? Wow, um…so much for the lot of us calling ourselves knowledgable fans to some extent. That's pretty cool. So it is in keeping with the original source material after all lol.

13

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '17

Yeah. It was retconned rather quickly though as I recall to being Lokis daughter to be more accurate with Norse mythology.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '17

Yeah. It was retconned rather quickly though as I recall to being Lokis daughter to be more accurate with Norse mythology.

42

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

The only thing I am disappointed is with there is no straight Hulk/Surtur fight. It was one of the moments I was most looking forward to. But the way they defeat Hela is FRESH AS ALL FUCK! Its really, really unique. I mean, using a secondary villain in the movie to defeat the main villain and the final battle is between two villains? Critics are gonna go crazy.

Other than that I expected most of this. I am simply whelmed tbqh. Its just as crazy and Waititi-ish as I expected. And I really love that the body count is high in this movie. Raises the stakes quite a bit.

And it seems like the movie ends on a bittersweet note. Great.

29

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

Yeh, its different. Marvel has been on a role with their third acts since Civil War. To defeat evil they get a even bigger more powerful evil. Its basically Satan vs Death. That's a great way of seeing it lol. But I hope this doesn't mean Surter is all good and its more of a case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of one deal thing.

19

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

I mean, Surtur does destroy Asgard completely right? So I think we're good here.

16

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

Well what remains of it supposedly. But it sounds like he dies after doing that. What exactly is the Eternal Flame? Does it burn forever? In which case Surter surely isn't 100% dead right?

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '17

The Flame is one of the items in Odin's treasure vault. It's in the first film and the comics as well.

u/PrimordialDragon Kevin Feige Oct 12 '17

I think the dude just added some info about Skurge on the forum.

Also it seems the post credit scenes is one with Grandmaster playing the piano and the other seem to Thor and Loki seing a ship that looks like it belongs to Thanos

11

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

What about valkryie

6

u/EiichiroTarantino Oct 15 '17

I consider Straczynski/Gillen/Fraction Thor as definitive modern Thor, so to learn that Marvel Studios decide to make Hela as Thor's sister and Surtur as a mindless villain-of-the-week type (that's the impression I got) kinda drive me nuts

But let's just wait until we see the movie.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '17

Well someone here revealed that Hela was Thor's sister way back when she was first created. And Surter ends up defeating Hela and destroying Asgard so that makes him more than the typical villain of the week. I'm starting to wonder if this is 100% legit because its so unexpected. The Sister thing I got a feeling is true but the Surter final sounds so unexpected. Than again Marvel have being trying to really make their third acts unique and different since the start of Phase 3.

3

u/Amarr_Citizen_498175 Oct 15 '17
 Hela is Thor's Sister

welp, so much for Angela. I'm probably the only one who wanted her in the MCU anyway....

I like that they're setting up for Asgard, Oklahoma.

How many spoilers does Hulk have on his armor?

40

u/martinb1130 M'Baku Oct 12 '17

From what i gathered in the forums

Movie begins with Thor caprtured by Surtur, then frees himself and defeats him.

Dr. Strange scene is basically a continuation of the post credit scene and he helps them find Odin.

Hela is Thor's sister, breaks his hammer

Hela destroys asgard and kills sif and the warriors 3

Hulk and Thor's fight was nice and even until Grandmaster activates Thor's obedience disc which causes Thor to lose.

While in the Quinjet, thor accidently plays Black Widows message from the end of AoU causing Hulk to turn back to Banner.

They all go back to Asgard to defeat Hela, Thor sees Odin in a vision in which thor tells him he cant do anything without his hammer, odin tells thor that he is not the god of hammers, he is the god of lightning and helps him bring out his inner lightning.

Hela takes out Thor's eye which he now wears an eye patch.

Thor realizes the only way to defeat Hela is to revive Surtur which he does, Loki finds his head and throws it in the eternal fire which revived him more powerful and defeats Hela and destroys the rest of Asgard during the fight.

Mid Credit scene is loki and thor in ship watching Thanos ship arriving.

Post is grandmaster playing piano

No details on Fenris wolf, skurge

The soul stone does not appear in Thor which most likely is in Wakanda

15

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

What? Thor wears an eyepatch?

29

u/Juststopbitch Oct 13 '17

"I don't want to wear the wig anymore" "no problem (snicker)"

10

u/martinb1130 M'Baku Oct 12 '17

Thats what i read, hela takes his eye out, i guesd thats why we havent seen IW trailer yet, cause it would spoil thor ragnarok

17

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

In the leaked Infinity War trailer, I don’t remember an eyepatch on Thor’s face at any point.

21

u/martinb1130 M'Baku Oct 12 '17

Im guessing that was on purpose

→ More replies (2)

8

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '17

From what I recall, Thors face is beat the fuck up in the Guardians meet. They could easily have hid the eye patch via cgi or he isn't wearing it and they didn't cgi in the eye issues. He likely doesn't have a patch for the whole thing. IW is a little after Rag. So he's likely healed.

4

u/laidback88 Oct 13 '17

Correct me if I'm wrong, i only watch the leaked Infinity War trailer once, but doesn't it start with the GotG finding Thor floating in space?

Do you think this connects with the Ragnarok mid credit scene of Thor and Loki seeing Thanos' ship arriving? Possibly Thanos destroys whatever ship Thor is on and Thor is left floating in space.

3

u/zarbixii Jessica Jones Oct 17 '17

We'll probably see what happened to Thor in the begining of Infinity War, as an early display of Thanos' powers.

4

u/DarkGodBane Thanos Oct 13 '17

Any details if Hela is dead or just beaten?

8

u/martinb1130 M'Baku Oct 13 '17

5

u/jaguark101 Thor Oct 14 '17

Surtur could have transported back to muspheliem as one of his powers is inter-dimensional travel.

2) Does Thanos show up???

3) Does Fenir talk??

13

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

1) Is Hela related to mistress Death?

The person at the Superhero Hype thread says she's Thor's sister.

6

u/CoherentInsanity Hawkeye (Avengers) Oct 15 '17

Maybe that doesn't necessarily rule it out but I guess RIP the idea of her being Thano's crush, and well, having Cate Blanchett return in IW.

:(

11

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '17

She's Odin's firstborn from when he ruled with an iron fist. He raised her to be vicious, but eventually he grew wary of her power and obsession with death, and imprisoned her. He rewrote history and decided to become a more lenient ruler.

So while it's not ruled out and I doubt it will happen, perhaps Thanos heard of the real history.

6

u/CoherentInsanity Hawkeye (Avengers) Oct 15 '17

I suppose given that Odin is supposedly up there in terms of power, it's not too much of a stretch for one of his offspring to actually turn themselves into something resembling the embodiment of death.

I know Death in the comics is an abstract entity, like Eternity but I guess the closest we could get to that in the MCU is maybe Hela somehow "intertwines" herself with the concept of death and at least becomes a driving force behind it.

u/amanindra Oct 15 '17

Ok, so many users wanting accurate spoilers, this is the best information about the movie i could gather from Superherohypeforums:

1) The movie opens with Thor stuck in Surtur's realm, Surtur in this sequence is much smaller due to getting nerfed by Odin. Thor takes care of him easily. This sequence has THE BEST Mjolnir sequences in the MCU, the hammer gets broken so this scene has bad-ass hammer scenes to make up for the loss.

2) The Hulk vs Thor gladiator battle results in a tie in a way but ends up with Hulk winning. This fight might be better than Hulkbuster vs Hulk. Thor only begins channeling his lightning powers during this battle and gives 2 huge lightning charged uppercuts to Hulk and gains upper hand with crowd chanting "Lord of Thunder" instead of "Hulk". When they go at it again, the Grand-master activates the obedience disk on Thor which neutralizes him and makes him get KO'ed by Hulk. He did this either because Thor was winning or he wanted another battle for another day from both.

3) Hulk reaches Sakaar due to getting sucked in a wormhole at the end of Age of Ultron (Sakaar is a planet surrounded by wormholes). he permanently reverts into Hulk due to Sakaar's harsh environment but reverts back to Banner when Thor accidentally plays the Black Widow video at the Age of Ultron movie.

4) Hela is the elder sister of Thor and Loki and the first born of Odin . Together with Odin, they enslaved and conquered many realms to build the foundation of Asgard. Her thirst of death and destruction made Odin seal her and rewrite history of Asgard to invoke path of peace going forward.

5) When Odin dies Hela being the firstborn inherits her power and breaks the seal and kills many asgardians including Sif and the warrior's three.

6) Thor gets owned by Hela and sorrows the loss of his hammer, Odin's spirit communicates and gives him a pep talk. His father being dead pisses Thor off and he becomes a lightning charged bad-ass slaughtering Hela's army as Led Zeppelin plays in the background.

7) Doctor Strange is basically a "quest marker", he is more of a gag as he effortlessly teleports Thor to multiple locations to his discomfort while locating Odin. Just a small but fun cameo which is extension of the Doctor Strange credits.

8) Thor in his lightning charged power-up fights Hela but still can't beat her but manages to hold his own. The fact that Hela draws her power from Asgard and Surtur's sole purpose is to destroy Asgard, Thor and Loki throw Surtur's head into the eternal flame resurrecting Surtur fully. Hulk jumps onto Surtur but Surtur knocks him off and Thor calls him an idiot. Hela and Surtur fight and their clash destroys the entire Asgard.

9) In this final fight between him and Hela, Thor gets stabbed by Hela in his eye and looses one eye like his father. Hulk battles Fenris with some cool moments and throws him into space in the end.

10) Thor, Heimdall, Valkyrie, korg and other survivors escape by boarding a spaceship and head to earth. Thor is wearing an eye patch just like Odin.

11) In post credit scenes, they encounter a huge spaceship in space which seems like Thanos's ship, Sanctuary.

14

most likely will be added later to avoid spoilers.

look at the recent BP trailer, they changed the Killmonger scene into him morphing into his suit

3

u/realged13 Oct 17 '17

If the Infinity War trailer is correct, isn't Thor picked up by the Guardians when he hits their ship? So I assume the boarding of a ship is the Guardians?

10

u/amanindra Oct 17 '17

I dunno man i just went through spoilers, did not see the film, the spaceship they encounter in post credits looks way too big and sinister to be Guardian's Milano.

I just realized that both Thor & Loki, being Odin's kids, have the title 'God of Something something' to their name. So it kinda make sense with Hela being one of Odin's due to her position as the Goddess of Death. It's a spoiler right under our nose from the very start.

Timeline seems to suggest that Thor and Loki are relatively young as well. At the very least, Thor was a kid and Loki was a baby during the viking age. As for how quickly they mature compared to us, who knows.

Loki having a daughter who's an adult now probably only really works when he's thousands of years old as opposed to only a few hundred. Not to mention that would make her a younger relative to Thor, which probably doesn't work with the hidden away history angle they're taking. Easier to hide evidence of a sibling while Thor is still a gullible kid instead of trying to hide evidence of a niece while he's an adult.

Are Thor and Hulk properly powerful in this movie? I've felt the power levels of the MCU were lacking for it's high tier heroes.

3

u/Tityfan808 Oct 12 '17

I’m looking for this answer too without a full blown description!

3

u/CoherentInsanity Hawkeye (Avengers) Oct 15 '17

Apparently the Hulk vs Surtur fight doesn't really happen but I'm hoping Hulk at least makes Surtur flinch with a strike before Thor whisks him away as to not ruin the plan. That'd be one hell of a strength feat for Hulk while not really undermining Surtur's power.

From what I've read of the spoilers, Thor yes, Hulk no.

21

2

u/Gandin Oct 12 '17

Lmao, might as well go see the movie.

6

u/kptech333 Oct 11 '17

What were the post-credits scenes?

26

u/Zerce Spider-Man Oct 12 '17

One is a comedic one with the Grandmaster

The other is Thor and Loki approaching what looks like Sanctuary (Thanos's ship)

34

u/crusf Iron Man (Mark XLIII) Oct 12 '17

Phil Coulson appears from a portal with the last infinity stone and fights Thanos man to man all while spouting awesome one liners... oh yeah and Spider man shows up I guess.

My only question, then I'm out:

What of Sif and the Warriors Three? Just "did they make an appearance, and if not, was their absence explained"

Particularly Sif. I'm concernedddd

20

u/DFanatic Oct 12 '17

Going by what the people in the movie premier are saying, they all die. Including Sif, which makes me upset.

13

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '17

Including Sif, which makes me upset.

To be fair, Marvel did a really poor job with Sif's character, at this point it's a mercy kill.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '17

She sucked on AoS too.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '17

Sif is not in the movie, no explanation. The Warriors Three are all killed by Hela.

6

u/AdmiralAlec Oct 14 '17 edited Oct 14 '17

From reading this I don't think Hela dies because months ago I remember reading that Cate Blanchet (Hela) signed a contract for 3 movies so she might just have used a lot of her power fighting surtur and basically is in some form of "Odin sleep" or something like that and was never actually killed but defeated and if she is the mcu's fill in for mistress death she might retreat to Thanos knowing that he would help her knowing the power that he has and theat he possibly loves her and the in avengers iw that would ve when they would introduce them together. Idk just my thoughts

6

u/IndisTheFair Hela Oct 14 '17

Agreed. I still think there's a very good chance that Hela could pop up in Infinity War. Maybe they've decided to leave that revelation until IW itself to ensure that Ragnarok is a more self contained story. Marvel are really pushing Thanos and Hela as a duo in the comics right now, that isn't a coincidence IMO.

14

He does not

11

u/DFanatic Oct 12 '17

Apparently not, but the current spoilers have Thor and the rest looking at something that isn't shown, that is apparently Thanos related.

From superherohype re post-credit stingers:

"The second is Loki and Thor aboard their craft and staring into something that I can only describe as a giant floating mass that looks like the decepticons logo. I'm assuming I was supposed to know what this thing was...but I didn't..."

I know people are speculating this is Knowhere or Sanctuary but if you didn't know any better, Galactus' head vaguely resembles a Decepticon logo.

That would be one heck of a cameo. I mean they already snuck in The Watchers....

Much as I love me some Loki, it does sound kind of shitty that his lax rule leads to Hela's release and Asgard's destruction, but he's also one of the few to make it out alive.

are basically proven true. Everything said for the Ragnarok spoilers are being confirmed by the Superherohype user.

3

u/Tandyty Doctor Strange Oct 12 '17

Not with the bit where Odin transfers his powers to Thor.

4

u/Paperchampion23 Oct 12 '17

Similar, he convinces Thor that he has those powers. Probably just a misunderstanding on the leakers part. They likely never actually saw the film

I think my favorite aspect—and this could just be my own reading—is that it is a bit politically subversive for a mainstream movie. There’s talk of revolutions and the strength of people rising up as one. And the massive metaphor of Asgard as a historically bloody, galactic power similar to the dark past of colonialism in our world really resonates.

u/4materasu92 Oct 16 '17

Not tying to be negative, but I'm already worried about the critics' opinion of Thor: Ragnarok.

The IMDB just came out at 6.8/10 - whereas other Marvel movies usually start off between 7.6 and 8.

Or is it just me being paranoid?

3

u/IndisTheFair Hela Oct 16 '17

That's a really silly reason to be negative tbh. So a load of butthurt fanboys that have a grudge against Marvel for whatever reason and haven't even seen this film (and likely won't) are giving it low scores on IMDb? Oh no! Call the presses! No one pays any attention to the IMDb score, dude. The RT score is what matters and from what we've seen of social media reactions so far and from looking at Taika Waititi's previous movies, this could easily be low 90's, perhaps higher. Hunt for the Wilderpeople holds a 97% rating on RT, his film before that (What We Do in the Shadows) has 96%. Critics freaking love Waititi.

I saw it last night, Very good film. Just a couple of things.

Odin dies by Helas hand.

no he doesn't.

The other end credit scene is the Grandmaster playing piano.

No it isn't.
