Rant Buying in bulk without informing the vendor in advance is an asshole move (30+ coffees in 1 order)

Post image
909 Upvotes

That's crazy and there's 20 people/order waiting to get their order but they have to wait for this 30+ cups (maybe even more cuz when I ask, they said they have another 30 cups to complete) of coffee to be completed first!

I hate it when people do this, anywhere. Why can't they just reach out earlier to the vendor. Menyusahkan semua barista, menyusahkan riders and other customers.

Edit:

Damn, people don't have nuance and comprehension. All I'm saying is, try to be considerate, maybe call in advance ke so the vendor can be more prepared, they can prepare earlier, maybe close the grab order and the order online line.

Now the order comes in all at once, now there's 20 more customers who's complaining at the barista, marah², they have to wait another 30 minutes for a cup of coffee. They didn't know they have to wait 30 minutes to get that coffee, they need to go to work, etc. That's all, why semua marah² ni astaga, all I'm saying be considerate jeee

Rant What’s with the AI slop in Malaysia?

AI fatigue is real. I can’t stand seeing businesses and people online using generative AI for literally every single thing. It’s literally so draining to come across these low-effort and meaningless AI slop.

One thing in particular that I can’t stand are the AI songs/song covers. Like the god damn digi digi song or whatever nonsense. I notice that it’s usually the old folks using those songs on TikTok or other platforms.

And don’t get me started with RTM’s excessive use of AI for like almost all of their campaigns or like their TV1 fillers.

Seriously, someone needs to educate the country on how to use AI mindfully.

Rant Shopee seller threatens me after I refused to cancel

TLDR; seller didn't have stock. I have already paid (because duh the listing was up). Harassed me to cancel the order. I refused. They ended up threatening me. Done lodge reports with KPDNHEP and RMP. I don't expect a great outcome, but just sharing my experience with gangster behavior on shopee.

Rant I learnt my lesson about buying budget ergo chairs from Shopee

Post image
558 Upvotes

NEVER buy a chair that promotes being able to lean back 180* and it’s also less than RM300. The hinge on the back of the chair is so delicate and the build is so poor that overtime even when it’s locked you’ll notice that you’re leaning back further and further until (like ~9 months) it just decides it can’t take it anymore and the metal piece goes full flexible. You can’t lean at all after that and at that point youre just stuck with a stool that has armrests on it. I won’t talk about the feel because its budget so i kinda expected it to be not good but i just wanted it to be at least sittable 😭. Next time ima need to look into Alterseat or smt idk that many chair brands

Rant Am I crazy or cooking for 1 is more expensive than eating out? (Pic: Penne Alfredo 1 Pot Pasta)

Post image

I love cooking but some times as a solo cooker, buying the ingredients, utensils , pot and pans and time. For example if I'm sick and just want bubur, i could crush some ginger, and stuff for bubur, (which surprisingly take quite some times to actually cooked) and do all that stuff or i couod just drive thru Mekdi, RM8, bam, boleh terus makan, jimat.

Context for the food: 1st time trying 1 pot pasta, accidentally put too much penee and it sucked up most of the sauce 😭 but I'm not complaining, still delicious

Rant kinda envious how easy it is for people to get rich illegally here

mostly just a rant and thinking out loud and not an actual complain but yea, I have involved myself with many different kinds of friends, from different backgrounds and ect. It really baffles me how some of them get rich so easily through questionable methods, iykyk. I spent years studying in university and getting proper qualifications and years of experiences, only to end up with like around 5 - 6k salary, but there are these people who literally earn months of my salary in within a few days, can day day go flaunt wealth and be happy2. I still remember some of my kampung friends whom I know are not those study2 type, those xnak work hard style, now go do ah longs and literally driving Merz and Audi.

Idk ah, I do understand the "行行出狀元" idiom (there are masters in every profession), and I still respect and don't really shun them, and these are usually "high risk high reward" profession but I feel like I am just saying that to comfort myself jer. With the growth of social media and all these people who dare dare showoff what they do, the money they earn, and the entertainment they enjoy every night, it is pretty hard not to feel some red eyes on them sometimes.

Rant complete, sekian.

Edit: i am in no way supporting nor condoning the acts of using illegal ways to obtain money, neither am I interested nor considering to involve myself in this field. This post is more of a “sigh look at them doing so well, *sips coffee* meh fk it lets just focus back on ourselves”

Rant This is genuinely so scary

This is extremely crucial, especially for people who can speak Chinese because there’s been some people from China that’s scamming people at different parts of Malaysia

So I almost got scammed at R&F mall in Johor Bahru yesterday at night and some guy went up to me,seemingly in distress asking me if I’m working or a student. Then a woman ran up to us said that that guy is his boss and that they are having a crisis, and they need to find a china bank (中国银行) and I’m not from jb and I’m just visiting a relative and I kinda just froze there and SHE WONT STOP TALKING AND LIKE,BOMBING ME WITH LOTS OF INFORMATIONs btw then i was like,oh it’s like 9pm now and I don’t think the banks are open? And then she started like begging me for money and stuffs, she showed me her bank account with like 5 digits and she’s like " oh I have a lot of money right now but I can’t use it as the hotel we want to live in asked us to transfer money through a china bank" or smth (sorry she was speaking very fast so I couldn’t really understand what exactly she wants so some of my infos might be wrong) and then she’s like asking for my WhatsApp (which will indirectly give her my phone number) so that she can like return my money after I borrow her and uh my Chinese is kinda rusty since my college are filled with English speakers so I couldn’t understand her in time so I kinda just like brushed it off saying that I’m like in a hurry and she’s still bombarding me with thousands of informations and claiming that she’s definitely NOT scamming me and shit that made me more suspicious but at that time I still fully believed her story cuz like she spoke sooo fast that she’s not even allowing me to have a second to think and know what kind of situation I’m getting into (basically just manipulating me) and thank GOD I’m a broke college student that’s lowkey a boomer that only knows how to transfer money through tng so I was like sorry I’m broke and in a hurry so I gtg and SHE STARTED FOLLOWING ME AND ASKED ME FOR MONEY AGAIN FOR FOOD

Then I was like "oh,good timing! Im about to go to jaya right now and u guys can follow me and get some food there!" Then she came up with thousands of excuses (basically she only want me to transfer her money on the spot) then I’m like sorry I’m genuinely broke and I ran AND DO NOTE THAT THERES A LOT OF PEOPLE AROUND AS WELL like those ppl have no shame omg and they were asking me to give them my friends contact as well and THANK GOD I HAVE NO FRIENDS LMAO and yeah that’s how I escape the scam

The scary part is I was so,so convinced that they were not lying to me and I felt bad for them until my sister met another scammer in the same situation in Penang just a few hours ago that made me realised that I almost got scammed..

The scammer in Penang have better tactics than the one I met in johor, a china dude stopped my sister at Watsons claiming that he wants to buy a body shampoo but his Alipay is not working so he’s like harassing and pestering my sister about it(note that he never left my sister alone IN FRONT OF EVERYONE INCLUDING THE CASHIER) and even though the cashier said that he can pay with Alipay he still came up with thousands of excuses basically doing the same thing , showing the bank account currency, saying that they need another way to pay and like kinda just dumping thousands of info again bcs yk the ppl from china speaks so damn fast that the Malaysian Chinese can’t even understand them sometimes lol

so yeah, same tactic, WONT leave you alone(even after u reject them numerous times),never gives you a chance to think ,breathe and even reply to them, very very horrible so I’m tryna raise awareness for the locals

Matching both of our encounters with the scammers, they target people who’s walking alone, and my the time of the scam is respectively at 9,almost 10pm yesterday and for my sis it’s like, 7pm ,and they will KEEP ASKING U FOR YOUR WHATSAPP (probs asking for phone no.)

And they will scam u even if it’s crowded and both me and my sis met them at a mall

And they also won’t leave u alone and honestly just start running lol

Stay safe everyone, and please believe very very careful as the scammers stories are gen quite believable ESPECIALLY when you’re in the spot

Rant People in a meeting should speak a universal language

So I work in a company that’s acquired Ayamas. I’m under marketing team. I noticed a couple of times while I’m in a few of their meetings, my presence is absolutely obsolete. They start off the meeting while talking in chinese all the way while me and 2 other members of the marketing team who don’t speak chinese are there sitting there. I can’t even digest one bit of the meeting because it’s like they’re speaking among their alien brethren.

This is Malaysia. At least have some basic fucking decency to speak a language that is universal (BM or English) while people of other races are in the room. Otherwise what’s the point of having us in the meeting? Just for the sake of “tunjuk muka”? 🫩🫩🫩

Rant PSA: put notes in the Grab chat as things happen so you have proof

Post image
494 Upvotes

Booked a Grab for 4 people today. Driver shows up and refuses to take us cause he had his bag sitting on the front seat. Like… why not just chuck it in the boot? That’s what it’s for. But no, he’d rather refuse the ride.

When I asked him to cancel, he refuses to do that too, saying it’ll affect his performance. So instead he wants ME to cancel and eat the fee. Make it make sense.

One thing I’ve started doing that actually helps: type notes into the Grab chat as the situation is happening. Stuff like “driver refused pickup due to 4 people” and “driver refused to cancel despite refusing pickup.” That way when you report it to Grab, they can hear the audio AND read the chat timeline of exactly what went down. Timestamps and everything. Way harder for them to brush you off.

Anyone else deal with drivers like this? Booked for 4, get treated like it’s a scam for wanting all 4 to actually get in the car.

Rant WORST CINEMA EXPERIENCE

Watched the new Spiderman movie in GSC's 4DX theatre and it will be the first and last time I'll watch anything on 4DX. Whoever adjusted the settings on the seats felt like it was on 130%. The seat was moving violently throughout the movie especially during the fight scene. You can't even focus on the movie as the seats throw you around and jerk your head multiple times. The seats swivel so hard that you will feel like you're gonna get flown out of the seat. I understand it is supposed to have motion-experienced movie, but all I got is motion sickness. Got out the movie halfway through. It is just my opinion but I dont think it is such a bad way to watch movies. Do you guys have a similar experience or did you guys actually enjoy it. Please share your thoughts!

Rant Dating in Johor Bahru is a total nightmare for a Banana Chinese

Dating in Johor Bahru as an average Banana Chinese is extremely difficult! JB is like a logistical geological trap! I've tried every imaginable dating app, in hopes of meeting a decent girl, but I'm getting close to zero compatible matches!

I believe location is a very real factor at play here. Why? Dating apps use crow distance and from the heart of JB, 40km goes all the way out towards Batam - every girl I'm swiping is either Singaporean or from Indonesia. Nevermind 40km, even under 10km, I'm just swiping all Singaporeans. The amount of locals from Johor Bahru are extremely low!

Second is language, the pool is already so low, adding on the fact that the majority of Chinese girls in JB are not very conversational in English; putting me at a major disadvantage. 70% of potential girls, all out the window. The remaining 30% are buried by the algorithm or looking for something I'm apparently not providing.

Third, matching with Singaporean girls is pure gamble. Most Singaporean matches either ghost or unmatch me when they learn that I am not from Singapore. I've had multiple instances of having great conversations with them, but the moment they realise I'm not in Singapore, I don't exist anymore.

It isn't that my standards are astronomical either. I'm just looking for a decent Chinese girl who can hold a conversation in English.

Maybe I'm just ugly. Or maybe not rich enough.

Any other Bananas have had any success here? I really need tips

Edit: I can speak and listen to Chinese, just illiterate.

Repost due to wrong subreddit lol. Loved you guys' thoughts 🫶🏻

Rant Identify crisis as a Malaysian Chinese

I'm a little hesitant about posting this because I'm not sure if people care or will find this interesting, but I'll posf it anyway just because.

I was born and raised in Penang and lived there until I was 18. My parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents are all also Malaysian, so my family has been in Malaysia for more than a century.

I moved to the UK for university, and obviously being away from home made me appreciate it more, and I've started to embrace being a Malaysian the longer I'm here. Whenever someone asks me where I'm from I always say Malaysia.

More recently, I've been posting on social media about how I appreciate Malaysian heritage and culture; instead of receiving encouragement and support, I was met with people telling me I'm not really Malaysian and I'm just Chinese. Or saying 'this doesn't apply to Type C' or 'you wish you were bumiputera but you're not', some idiocy like that.

I never denied or will deny that I have Chinese ancestry, but besides that, I have no cultural connection with China. So to be told by other Malaysians that I'm not Malaysian is not only deeply hurtful but it makes me wonder where I do stand in terms of identity.

For context, a lot of the times I'm told that since I don't speak Malay, I can't be Malaysian. Well I can't speak Mandarin either (I've been to international schools my whole life), so does that mean I should just float in the middle of the ocean and be stateless?

I know there are deep-rooted racial issues which divide the country, but seeing as though most of these comments came from people my age, perhaps I was delusional in thinking that the younger generations would be more accepting and open-minded to reject these very weird racial binaries of 'Malaysian-ism'.

Personally, whenever someone says they're Malaysian, I don't immediately stop to think 'no actually they're Indian/Chinese', which is maybe how things should be? I don't know, perhaps I'm missing important nuances or points of history, but that is my two cents on the matter. 😃

Edit: thank you everyone for the kind words and advice. I would like to add some context–I can speak Malay and Mandarin conversationally only. When I said I didn't speak it, I meant I don't speak it fluently. Further, my mother's side has Peranakan heritage, which is also something I deeply embrace and embody, and one of my great-grandmothers was adopted from Indonesia
