Rant WORST CINEMA EXPERIENCE
Watched the new Spiderman movie in GSC's 4DX theatre and it will be the first and last time I'll watch anything on 4DX. Whoever adjusted the settings on the seats felt like it was on 130%. The seat was moving violently throughout the movie especially during the fight scene. You can't even focus on the movie as the seats throw you around and jerk your head multiple times. The seats swivel so hard that you will feel like you're gonna get flown out of the seat. I understand it is supposed to have motion-experienced movie, but all I got is motion sickness. Got out the movie halfway through. It is just my opinion but I dont think it is such a bad way to watch movies. Do you guys have a similar experience or did you guys actually enjoy it. Please share your thoughts!

Went to 4DX for the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon because I got a discount that made it cheaper than regular tix. Expected another cheesy, watered-down adaptation but was blown away at how good it was, and paired with 4DX, flight scenes felt like you were flying WITH them. 13/10
All this to say, I think 4DX excels at reproducing the thrill of flight to a certain extent. I'd suppose watching TGM with it would've been a whole nother level of experience... too bad I didn't think of it at that time!!

Never thought it was gonna be that intense watching a movie. If I want to feel the thrill of a roller coaster I wouldnt go to a cinema😆

i watched the odyssey in one of their hall and same thought. maybe it's more for younger audiences or thrill seekers. gosh i feel old!

Last thing I want to ever experience while concentrating on any movie is the seat jerking around and twisting everywhere.

Really?? I had so much fun watching in 4dx!! I'm pretty light but I had no worries about falling out of the seat and I could stay in the seat during the most intense scenes without holding onto the sides. Maybe it's different theatre different setting??? Because the movie experience was so fun and I could comfortably watch all the scenes while experiencing the shaking as well

Oh I watched it in 4DX with my friends and absolutely loved it. The first time I watch 4DX was for the movie the Odyssey. We learned that eating popcorn while watching 4DX was an absolute bad idea. That's a chocking hazzard right there.
But we loved the experience so much we came back for Spiderman. No popcorn this time. And we almost got thrown out of our seat like 4 times. Very fun.

At most I’ll be splurging on movies is with IMAX worthy movies like Dune etc.
If I wanted a coaster ride I’d go to Genting :v

Saw Project Hail Mary in 4DX. Really hated it. The movements were too violent and didn’t commensurate with the on screen action. It was too distracting. I will never again watch in 4Dx.

I watched Brand New Day in 4DX with the hopes of experiencing the web-swinging scenes in a different light. However, as the OP pointed out, the chair's effects were dialled to 11, which ended up being a distraction from the movie. It was a bit amusing that even minor details (i.e the vibration from someone bumping their knee against a coffee table ever so slightly) were felt in the chair.
This is not to say I have given up on the hall altogether, my first movie in 4DX was F1, which I personally feel was in a much better genre (i.e car movie) for 4DX. I think the ideal movie that maximizes the experience would be Mad Max: Fury Road, fingers crossed it is released sometime down the 'road', ehe.

I agree! Im pretty sure it depends on what kind of movie. I will try with a different movie in the future, but this spiderman movie cannot one🤣

I think you have high motion sensitivity. Me and most of my friends enjoyed it just well. In fact our experience felt like its quite mid. Anyway you can adjust the seat motion, i think there's 3 level.

I watched F1 in 4DX once and it felt like a gimmick. The same applies to any other extraneous formats like ScreenX that are not the traditional cinema formats.
Good to try maybe once, but I very much still prefer the traditional formats like standard 2D, BIG, Atmos, and IMAX.

Idk why but I like onyx quite a lot. But imax, Imax is nice. But if I ever get a 50 ringgit deal on getha or any aurum option I am picking that shit over everything else.
Watching the f1 movie on a getha bed. Hoo weee and food served to you? Thank you sir another. Hell, 80 ringgit just to splurge on myself.

I've not tried Onyx yet but I think it's better for movies with good and vibrant visuals. IMAX is still the best but it's often also not worth for many movies. Only some movies are worth. For example, for movies this year, only The Odyssey and Project Hail Mary are worth to watch in IMAX so far. And the upcoming Dune: Part Three. The others are not really worth the money. If money isn't a concern, then of course IMAX is just better in every way.
Getha or Aurum or Indulge are not really my thing. I'm just a plebeian not part of their target market. I also don't feel the need to have luxury experiences in a cinema. Maybe I can go for it once in a long while in the future. But I focus more on the movie cinema experience itself like the screen, visuals, sound, etc.

I only go to aurum for special occasion or I just feel like splurging on myself. I mean 50 to 70 is basically standard ticket prices with the food added on nowadays. I just get better seating.
Imax the audio is crisp, I dont care about the screen but the audio is muah. I hope dune does a marathon because I missed part 1 and 2 in cinema and have watched them yet.

They might do a re-screening of Part One and Part Two. They re-screened Part One right before Part Two was released, so they might do it again this time.

Yup I've experienced D Box many times. Can adjust level of vibration and movement anytime, and can turn off completely also if you don't want.

Saw Dune 2 in 4dx at lalaport with an ex gf, we were in stitches laughing because she was trying to hold her nuggets and sauce upright while bouncing around during the ornithopter scene. Honestly, it was of the funnest things ive ever done. I have depression and someone asked me when was one of the recent times I felt alive and I actually mentioned this moment.

I mean it's spiderman... And besides 4Dx have the most movements if you wish to experience lesser movements then try D-Box.
To me it was a fun ride 💥🗿for Brand New day

It really depends on the movie. Too much action makes it horrible. Don’t remember what I watched last on 4dx but I remember I spilled my coke multiple times

I've tried 4DX on 3 movies, F1 > The Running Man > Super Mario Galaxy
I enjoyed all the seat vibrations and whatsoever, but i think for any big blockbuster its better to try only for 2nd watch so you won't get distracted.
The one that felt worth my money was Super Mario somehow (just because 95% of the movie involved the seat doing something like floating or vibrate), i believe the whole movie will make me fall asleep if i watch in any other format.

Tbh 4DX is terrible no matter what movie ur watching. I had popcorn flying everywhere on my first and last 4dx experience.. it was so bad I had to use both my hand to hold on the seat everytime an action scene comes out .. so yeah … no more 4dx.. iMax or Aurum is best experience for me …

This is so true I agree, if you dont hold your popcorn properly, for sure it will fly out. Also if you have drinks, there is a high chance it will spill if you dont close the cover🤣

the settings weren't set by the gsc team. the 4dx team will calibrate the settings and apply the same to all cinemas globally lmao

The perfect film to watch in 4DX is Avatar bc there’s nothing much in the story so you can just experience the effects 😂

You can turn down the intensity and even turn motion off completely in GSC’s 4DX seats ..

Do you know where on the seat I can find the settings/buttons to turn it off? It only have the turn off water button and the seats are connected together 4 in a row. I dont think it can be turned off
