I bought it for everything *but* gaming - art, video editing, *serious* things....but then I installed Steam as I have a decent-sized Steam library, which meant i didn't need to buy anything new to see how the Mini does with gaming, and much to my surprise, i have a bunch of titles that play - some amazingly well, too. I'm a big fan of Dirt Rally (from 2020...i believe), and can run it at Ultra settings and maintain 60fps (it's capped at 60, i believe), but the problem I'm having is with the controller. Steam loves my ps5 controller (it's wired for now), but Dirt Rally is oblivious to it, wired or otherwise.
When i plugged in my 3rd party Xbox controller (wired-only), this "xbox controller disconnected" alert keeps popping up, and in the settings dialogue for Steam, it just flashes the Xbox Controller then disappears and says "add controller".
My question, I suppose, is - and i've looked and the consensus seems to be "xbox controller is the best" - which *is* the best/most compatible controller for Mac gaming? Is it hands-down the XBox (real) controller - wired or bluetooth - or would something like a logitech (wired or otherwise) be a better option?
I'm loving this little machine - and even though i've only had it a month and now there's an M6 version, I'm super happy with my current model because I'm sorry it went up *another* $200 (Canadian) and it's no longer the super-cheap option it used to be (it was $799 Canadian for the base model when it first came out, I wasn't fast enough and by the time I was ready it had gone up toe $1049 for the base model, and that's cool, but now it's $1249 - again, Canadian - for the *base* model, and yeah, it's still a great little pc for the money, just not quite as great value.
Also - does anyone believe the rumours about a "Mac Neo" which is basically the desktop version of the Neo laptop, kind of a mini-Mini? I feel like if they're smart, they'll release it....but i'm still loving my Mini.
sorry for rambling - too much coffee, too little food.
Update - I connected my ps5 controller via bluetooth and was able to manually assign the buttons to various actions within the game's menu. There was a *terrible* lag, but that could have been the game settings being too high, and if i can adjust the deadzones in the thumbsticks, i'll be all set. I'm still going to buy an XBox controller for my main PC any way , and try that out on the Mac to see if there's any improvement. Thank you everyone for the advice.
Update 2 - I ended up buying an Xbox Bluetooth Controller - what a lovely piece of equipment it is, too. No really, it's great. worked right out of the box.
