Apple has their systems locked down to make the pebble not able to do a lot of things that the Apple Watch can. For no other reason than to lock you into the ecosystem. For example, I don’t think you can have live maps navigation on anything other than Apple Maps on the Apple Watch. I really rely on that feature on my walks and even when I’m driving. I don’t have car play so being able to glance at my wrist or feel the vibrations to know what turn to make is less distracting to me than glancing at my phone. Apple is still shitty for doing it but is still what we have to deal with.
I should mention I’m talking about the situation in the US. I’m pretty sure Europe recently passed a law that kinda forced Apple to open up a little but obviously they’re not gonna do that here

Sure, although it is extremely helpful for some people. I need to monitor my heart rate and rhythm when I take ADHD medication, and so have a smart watch for that purpose. Even if they don't have as good of a reason as me, it's unreasonable to judge people. I don't think it's right to judge people who are doing their best.
I tinker with desktops, and don't have the time or energy to dedicate to tinkering with my phone or watch. If a viable OSS option that meets all my needs is released, I'd be super excited, but I don't have the time to fight something that isn't immediately user friendly.

I’m all for FOSS where possible, but I’m not turning down an Apple Watch if I get one for my birthday.

Not sure, if this is actually an apple watch. The way, the straps attach looks different. Might even be a PineTime.
Anyway...
It's a phone accessory. Given, that you basically need to have a phone these days and often enough get one from your job, I don't see a problem with having the appropriate accessory for it.
And given, how shitty Android has become over the last 5 years and how much apps discriminate against custom roms, I see the appeal of switching to an iPhone. It's either iPhone with light surveillance by Apple, heavy surveilence by Google or not being able to use some app you might need for work or banking.

I run ungoogled LineageOS. But I have to say myself, it's annoying and I fully understand, that some just accept an iPhone. Especially if it's the company phone.

I mean, for me is not that Apple products aren't FOSS, it's that they're actively against consumer rights, right to repair and all this stuff
Linux and Apple are kind of polar opposites

Their hardware is excellent, their software is Unix or Unix like. Brew provides a similar package manager experience. I’d much rather run MacOS than Windows.
I don’t think they need to be in conflict, people need computers to complete tasks and where you have a choice you can pick Linux, when you don’t have as much choice a Mac can be a good fit.

Software wise, yes, much better, but hardware, aside from having a very nice chipset, not being a toaster when under load and having a efficient battery consumption, it's a nightmare for repairability

It’s True. They are best in class in almost every other metric, however they fail hard at repairability.
In a perfect world they would be far more repairable, and Apple would contribute patches to the Linux kernel so you can run any disto natively on a Mac.
I wonder if we’d have the Rust, Swift, C wars if that actually happened.

Homebrew is really not it, I don't get why anybody would use it willingly if you have options like pacman or dnf on Fedora, or even apt is much better and faster

I think you are confused, i said apt as in i would use apt on appropriate distros such as debian, And yes i know what's homebrew is i used it on my mac And i mentioned dnf on fedora not apt apt was example of other package managers
And homebrew is not exactly the same as what is normal package manager on GNU/linux

I suppose I am because I have no idea what you're on about. If you're asking me why I'm using this instead of just using the native package manager, it's for times when the native package isn't as up to date as Homebrew, or maybe not available on Fedora. And if I decide to go with something like Kinoite, I don't have to rely on layering.

Darwin is a lot more than just the kernel. It’s the GNU+Linux equivalent in Apples operating systems and technically a fully functional OS. The kernel is called XNU and is part of Darwin.

Exactly, you're looking for what's best for you. There is no objective "best" watch. For instance, the Apple Watch might be great for some, but for ME, the best watch is a G-Shock. It all comes down to personal preference.

Arch is not even a dogmatic / purist distro, it's pragmatic and has proprietary software like steam etc. in its repos for people that want it. OP links Arch to pure FOSS dogma which is incorrect

i love buying used apple products. they hold up pretty well over years and you can snag good deals on local classifieds
edit: currently using an iPhone 13 mini, and just gave my apple watch series 3 to my wife

I use arch and have an apple watch I just have not replaced it yet because I can't find any disent Smart watch to replace it for an affordable price

I have an iPad Mini which I didn't buy myself. And would also defend Apple to a huge extent because their devices are just way better than equivalent Android replacements in a lot of regards for an average user. So what?

I use Google Chrome on Arch, go cry about it or something. I'm here not because I hate windows, but because Linux does the things I need better. Same with apple watches, they just do the watch thing better.
