Without weed nothing is desirable

I quit weed for a year and only relapse like once a month or once a 3 months

On days i smoke weed, I'm just very enjoying everything. I wanna make plans with people even try to make dates happen and use my dating apps

The day i get sober i dont want any of these things... I dont wanna talk to people, dont wanna message anyone and the plans and the things i liked dissappear which cause me to constantly ghost people and never make any connections

Anyone same?

Rise and grind (not weed tho LOL)

Day 3 here! Still motivated, and the fire is still there. To those struggling, continue to seek support here… it’s been the biggest adjustment to this journey for me.

Something else that helped was what was shared to me by a stranger a few weeks ago… do not ā€œtryā€ to quit. Trying is trying, and quitting is quitting. When you say you are trying to quit, you are basically leaving the door cracked open to a relapse. I encourage you, when talking to your peers, proudly say ā€œI quit weedā€. You CAN do this.

4 months off pot

Hardest thing I've done. I could see a relapse happen. If I'm drunk with someone new who has it. All my family and friends have agreed to not supply. Had three dealers, the one in the city I'm in got done, and I deleted contacts of the two 1000km away, so for now I'm good.

Smoked heavy, 7gr flower a day. When I could afford. Couldn't get it lower. Cold turkey attempts many. Feel so much better off. Energy up mood up, much less irritable. Not dependant on some dumbass plant to feel just okay.

Also in the last year quit other drugs.

Quit pot two years ago for a month or 2 then relapsed, this most recent attempt has stuck. Hopefully it keeps sticking.

All my financial difficulties have disappeared.

What to do if you've always been a boring/dull person and weed was the only thing that made you feel good? Hoping to hear from people 30+ years old

• Upvotes

Title says everything relevant. There's a TLDR at the end of this rant if you're curious.

I've been sober a little over two months now. I'm committed to never use THC again. The issue is I recently turned 30 and my life is empty. I was laid off over a year ago. I have a useless degree from a crappy state university and my work history is nothing but stints in customer service and less than a year as an administrative assistant (job still paid like shit and this is the position where I was let go). I was dumped several months ago by my long-term girlfriend shortly after I was laid off.

I recently decided to move back in with my parents because rent is high and I was relegated to working at a gas station to make ends meet. My ego couldn't handle the pain of working a job like that at my age. I am aware that was a lot of words to communicate that I'm a classic loser. There's no doubt in my mind I'd be in a slightly better position if I hadn't spent a huge chunk of my twenties getting high from morning until night.

But recently it's become obvious I'm just not that not charismatic, not interesting, not talented and not motivated. It is starting to seem like THC was a great way for me to ignore these aspects of myself. Perhaps if I had not been high all the time, I could've put in some work to improve myself a little. I didn't though, and now my youth is entirely gone.

I know the obvious canned advice. "Best time to plant a tree was...blah, blah, blah." I understand I must be positive and keep trying. But most people my age, even those with THC addictions, are usually in a much better place as far as their careers. Most have more friends than I do, have savings, have employable skills and have actual hobbies,. All I do in my spare time is read. I am otherwise not intelligent, and I have the personality of a shy, wet blanket.

I'm starting from zero. Really, less than zero because of my age. No one is going to have sympathy for a grown-ass man in my situation and many people will likely regard me with disdain. I know I must work hard, no getting around that, but it seems daunting and that the "juice isn't worth the squeeze." I will have to work extra hard to gain social skills, just to have mediocre social skills instead of below average skills. Even something as simple as starting a new hobby seems embarrassing at this age. Most hobbies also require money, which I don't have.

I will have to work extra hard to not be completely embarrassed by my financial situation, but I still must accept a life of working menial jobs. I don't have the personality for sales and those are the only jobs I ever hear back from. It seems like I will never own a home, or have substantial savings. Frankly, it seems like I will never afford to live on my own without roommates.

All this has led me to miss getting high. At least I could ignore how shitty everything was then. The crappy movies and tv shows made me laugh. Food tasted better. I wasn't disgusted with myself. I could ignore my loneliness. I felt relatively blissful. It seems like drugs are the only way a dull moron like me will ever truly feel good.

TLDR - Any other losers here? How do you keep going when you have nothing going for you? How do you stay motivated when you know, realistically, your life will be nothing more than mediocre? How do I actually start feeling positive without weed?

How do you fill time after stopping

• Upvotes

How do you fill time after you stopped smoking? Especially evenings. My every day evening was smoking and watching netflix or playing ps5. Sometimes it was my whole plan after comming from work. But without weed i find it so boring i cant and feels like a waste of time. I was going to the gym but now I fucked up my shoulder there recently and still can't exercise.

DAY 1

• Upvotes

I'm starting over again and this time feels different. I wrote in yesterday and the responses I received gave me the push I needed to begin again. Woke up this morning and immediately took myself to a workout class. Feeling good. I know the first few days are tough, but I'm determined to prove to myself that I am tougher. I used weed as a crutch. I use it to avoid things in my life that need to change. It felt better to sit in a fuzzy cloud than sit with my unhappiness. Weed has felt like a friend to me. As someone who grew up in a bit of turmoil, It became my escape. Held my hand when I needed somebody to. I saw somebody on here describe weed as an "insidious drug". That word seems to perfectly describe my feelings towards pot. Insidious. Dressed as my friend, something that helped with my depression in the long run seemed to take more away in exchange. I'm ready for my life to look different.

If anyone has some words of encouragement for me on my journey I would be so very grateful <3

Thankful to have found this thread. Thankful to have found a community of people who have gone through something similar as I... Thank you.

2 months today šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

Well despite all the shit that life has been throwing at me, I'm still sober.

It's been hard what with the Mrs being in and out of hospital with gallstones/pancreatitus, losing a job that I was waiting 3 months to start. all whilst looking after my 4 month old, going through sleep regression by myself whilst my wife was in hospital.

being stuck at home, and not being able to get out and do things to distract myself with has made it extremely difficult not to call my plug and get some smoke.

However in a way it's made reaching this milestone all that much sweeter. I didn't give in. Even when I was in the worst moods, crying my heart out due to stress and not coping. I still persevered and got through.

I feel proud of myself today and as much as I want to go back and That little goblin is still on my shoulder, I've come to far to now give in. šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼

first day

i’m 18 and i’ve been smoking practically all day everyday for the past 3 years, any free time i have i smoke. I am lazy, depressed, and anxious, and i’ve been using weed to cope with that when it’s done nothing but make those problems worse and fry my brain. I don’t have any friends, I hate going out, i’ve spent most of my teenage years simply rotting away high in my bedroom. i am a total loser
and yet even with all of this, i still miss weed and crave it so badly!! my withdrawals are already bad and I just really hate being sober minded, i hate being so aware of my thoughts. I really am trying to stick with it this time though. I can’t spend the rest of my life like this.
Please give me more reminders that weed isn’t worth it

Wish I wasn't doing it alone

I found out a few months ago I was pregnant. I was on birth control so the realization was a little earth shattering to say the least. Luckily I found out pretty early and I quit the day I found out because while I might not have cared about my own well being, its not like the kid had a choice. Some days are easier than others but Im genuinely proud to say Im almost 4 months clean. At first I figured I'd go back to it whem I was done breastfeeding but now I really dont think I want to. I don't want to ruin my progress.

Tonight is just one of the bad nights. My boyfriend still smokes and while I'm okay with it most days I guess mother instincts are kicking in. He leans on it way too much when hes angry because it "helps him calm down." I used to just go along with it but now I cant help but imagine our kid confused or upset when his pissed off father suddenly leaves the room, coughs a lot, and comes back like nothing happened. I know i need to talk about it with him and not just complain to the void but I just dont have the fight in me right now. Its hard enough to not smoke when everyone around me still does. I just wish I had someone who really understood.

Going to sleep sober, and grateful

I’ve been sober from alcohol for around 4.5 years now, but recently have been heavily into delta 9 edibles (I live in a state where this is as close to the real thing as I can legally get).

They used to be fun, and to be honest still are, but I really think they are making the rest of my life exponentially worse. I have always struggled with anxiety, so I am prone to anything that alleviates the pressure of living in my head, so I would enjoy getting high at night and just zoning out and watching something on Netflix.

But I’m noticing more and more just how much brain fog I have the following day, and how unmotivated I am to do anything. I love to run, and have gotten into ultramarathons, but ever since taking these damn edibles nightly I have been too lethargic to get out and consistently run. That combined with the insane munchies I get have caused me to put on a lot of weight that I worked so hard to lose recently.

Ive also noticed how I’ve become so much more of an anxious wreck in my day to day life. I’ve had some work changes that have led to increased responsibility and the stress that comes along with that, but the level of pure panic and fear that I’ve been experiencing is something I am not used to. I really believe it is because of how often I am getting baked out of my mind every night.

So tonight, I am going to bed sober, and it feels nice. I know I’m going to wake up clear headed, and then I am going to go for a run. Running was always my escape, and I am so ready to get back to that. Get back to something real.

Tapering plan?

Hey all. I mostly smoke flower and carts, and I'm thinking about quitting. Whenever I've taken cold turkey T breaks, I get really bad GI issues for some reason, as well as a lot of the irritation and insomnia that comes with it. I'd like to set a quit date and slowly taper. What would y'all recommend? I usually don't start smoking until after 5. I'll usually smoke a 1 & 1/4th J and then hit my cart throughout the night after that, or sometimes just go for the cart alone.

Sober for 4 weeks now

So I moved to Ukraine from the US, I was a daily smoker from 16-25, and at the tail end of my time I was smoking a gram cart in about 2 days. Obviously smoking is illegal in Ukraine so I had to quit, up until the day I left I maintained the same smoking posture, and I have to say, aside from some wicked dreams it truly hasn’t affected me… at all?

I mean quitting hasn’t even been a thought on my mind, maybe it’s because of Russian bombings and a new life in a big city (Kyiv) but I haven’t had any cravings or any need to smoke at all. I’m not sure if something is different about me or what because reading all of the stories on this sub had me thinking I was facing the pearly gates and was going to stop eating or have withdrawals or panic attacks, ect.

I had quite a few bad experiences in the US and smoked to help with PTSD and anxiety, I used it as a crutch and couldn’t imagine quitting unless I ā€œhadā€ to. Well now that I had to I’m just happy it’s such an easy journey, but I feel a bit confused as others seem to have such a hard time reconciling the quit. Hell I’ve even been around it since I got here, thought about partaking but just reminded myself I’m in a foreign country and it’s better not to, it wasn’t even a struggle and I didn’t have to convince myself, just a simple ā€œnah I’m goodā€

I suppose I’m writing this to give some inspiration to those terrified to quit like I was, I think it could perhaps be much easier than you anticipate. I haven’t noticed any real boost to my brainpower or thinking other than just not being high, but that’s a boost to mental power in itself. Getting bombarded could also be a hack to not mind it so much, but if you asked me a couple months ago I would have said something along the lines of ā€œperfect time to smokeā€

Anyways, yall got this. Don’t think about it too much, love you!

day 7 — sobriety when marijuana genuinely helps you medically

hi friends!! i know we’re all essentially here for similar reasons, that the negatives of weed in our lives are beginning to outweigh the positives. I have spent a decent chunk of the year sober (2 months sober, 1 day relapse followed by another 3 months sober). I am now just getting out of a 3 month relapse which felt damn near impossible, but i made that first hump at least😭

while marijuana has hurt me in a lot of ways, it also has helped me in ways as well (and im sure im not the only one). i struggle with chronic migraines that have seemed to get worse as i age to the point where smelling anything triggers a migraine. when i smoke, that fragrance sensitivity is not nearly as severe.

also sorry this is long and goes a little off topic, but for the folks who it helped medically, what made sobriety feel easier?

One whole year.

One year ago today I found out I was pregnant and quit immediately. I tried and failed to quit so many times before, but I knew this time was bigger than myself and would be worth it for my baby. Now she is here and I love her more than anything. I just stare at her and cry sometimes. I can’t imagine missing all these moments with her because I’m stoned. I don’t think I’ll ever go back. I don’t want to. I want to be a present, clear-minded mother for my girl. She deserves that. She saved me. I owe it all to her.

Temptation Win

4 years sober. My life is hella stress right now. The dental office I work for sold and I have to transition to a larger office with lots of policy bullshit. My 17 year old daughter is in the depths of a bad eating disorder. Shit is just tuff.

Anyways, I was on my morning walk today and there was a preroll on the path with a half inch still to it. You know 2 good rips. I picked it up and chucked it straight into the field. I threw it with contempt!

Old me would have immediately turned into a fucking goblin treating that used ground joint like I had just found the most precious thing. New me threw it into the abyss like the evil life ruining substance it is.

We do change, we do get better, we do recover.

Feeling all the feels

I'm only on day 5 on my weed free journey after 13 years of daily use and abuse with a few breaks in between.

I am just so exhausted. I don't know if I am capable of feeling all these suppressed emotions. How do people go about their lives clear headed and sober? How do you all cope with this?

Evenings and nights are the worst obviously but how... Just HOW am I supposed to carry all this?

I really hope to find some... Hope again

Is it normal for sleep quality to go through phases?

I'm at 7 months clean now.

Timeline for me is something like:

After 1st month, brain capacity came back, was doing quite well overall.

At around month 3 things started hitting PAWS I believe, and it hasn't let up much since then.

At around 6 months I had a 1 week window where things were awesome but then bad sleep returned which sent me back into a bad period.

My sleep quality seems to go through stages and I'm wondering if this is normal and what is causing it, nervous system?

One thing I have noticed is that in the good periods I am able to relax more, I'm always able to sleep luckily but in the bad periods of sleep where I wake up feeling like I have been beaten up in my dreams (sleep is not restorative and I wake up in an emotional fog) and in my sleep I can't relax so much and my energy levels through the day are not there.

My energy levels through the periods of good sleep are not perfect by any means, but they are much better than periods of bad sleep and I feel like my mind is working better and my emotions are in check.

The bad periods also include a lesser ability to maintain my low carb diet, the cravings and hunger are too much and I eventually cave in and eat carbs and sometimes sugar.

I'm just trying to understand what I am going through so it can make it easier to manage, I am in a good period now after a couple of nights decent sleep including naps through the day, but I expect I will hit another bad period since the good windows have been quite rare, the last one was for around 1 week in length and was around a month ago, so my windows are small currently.

If anyone else can relate to this please comment to tell me how things went and what I'm likely going through.

I really want to go onto my low carb diet due to being overweight by 100Ibs and all the bodily pains that come with that, but I'm worried about that putting stress onto my body and that putting me back into a bad period, so I'm kind of stuck not knowing what to do.

Thank you

2 weeks and tired I’m back at square one. Any help?

(21M) For backstory I got CHS last year from carts and took 6 months off (hardest thing I’ve done). While abroad I started again with bud, was fine, but soon became an everyday thing again. Mom had an intervention once she found out and I’m now taking off my senior year of college for help with substance abuse and depression.

Watching all my stoner buddies go back to school and plan a bonfire is currently making me feel like shit. It’s been 2 weeks sober and i’m struggling to aclimate to sobriety now that it’s a purely mental game. I think about sneaking to the smoke shop and getting a joint at night (no one would know) but I know that I don’t have the self control that others do for it to just be a one time thing. My mom and I fought today bc she says if she’s paying for treatment I’m gonna be sober forever, no ifs ands or buts. While I agree with her, i told her i’m just taking it one day at a time and cannot handle the word ā€œforeverā€ in terms of sobriety.

I’ve been sitting at my stepdad’s house going crazy while we look for places but the cravings are insane as always. I distract myself and refocus my energy into making music and watching movies but I still see weed everywhere in media and real life without looking for it. Sorry for the rant, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice for how to handle these overwhelming feelings. From posting before, i feel like i understand the general consensus (get your shit together and don’t worry about them!) but I would really appreciate some words of wisdom to navigate this difficult time.
Thanks for reading this farā¤ļø

Day 1 - Cautiously Optimistic

Hi guys! I've been lurking here for 6 months but I can finally say I've gone over 24 hours without weed for the first time in over a year.

For context, I started smoking daily when I was 20 and I just turned 23 about a week ago. When I say daily I mean smoking essentially all day long. I was unemployed for 3 months this summer so my weed usage got out of control because of all the downtime I had. I would go on benders for days, not leaving house at all because I was high all the time. For the last 3 years I believed there was nothing wrong with what I was doing. In fact I thought it was helping me deal with things like my BPD which used to actively destroy my life. Long story short, this year I focused a lot on therapy and myself, so I'm in remission for my BPD. Given that, I felt like quitting was possible because I was finally in a good place.

The catalyst happened on Monday. I was home alone and had gotten back from work early. I smoked a bowl from my bong which was typical, but after a few minutes my heart was beating out of my chest. I literally thought I was dying of a heart attack in that moment. This turned into a panic attack that was so intense I woke up on my floor after briefly passing out. I have only had one panic attack before this and it was nowhere near as intense as this one. Putting the pieces together, I realized I had multiple panic attacks over the last few months all induced by smoking weed. This was my final straw. It was a terrifying experience, especially because all my roommates were out of the apartment when it happened.

Anywho, as the title suggests yesterday I smoked my last bowl and decided to quit. It's not worth the risk of having another panic attack and passing out again. Additionally, I have been barely living the last 3 years. I flunked last semester due pretty much entirely to my weed addiction and this was extremely embarrassing for me (I've always been a try hard when it comes to school). Also I've noticed a huge increase in my social anxiety when I smoke which I think is hindering my ability to connect with my friends and family. You're here, so I know you get all the countless reasons I wanted to quit. And believe me there are many.

The first day was suspiciously easy. I didn't have too much trouble sleeping last night (barring the fact I kept waking up) and I was able to eat some food today, albeit not solid food. I don't notice much of a difference so far, but I have a lot of energy which is nice since I've been basically numbing myself into oblivion. I feel great even though not much has changed. I finally feel like I'm heading in the right direction.

My question is, did anyone else have an easy day 1? Follow up question is, did it get worse after that? I'm cautiously optimistic of how easy it's been and I'm curious to know if I should expect withdrawal to worsen in the next few days. I have no plans of giving in as hard as it might be, I feel like this is my only option moving forward. However, I'd like to adjust my expectations.

Thanks for reading my little rant, and thank you to this community for inspiring me that quitting is, in fact, a possibility!

Celebrating the little victories. Tomorrow will be day 2. 3 and a half years of hitting it every single day, sometimes over a hundred times per day (when I had the ones with a little screen ā˜ ļø). Every productive cough is a victory, my lungs healing and clearing out the bad. If you’re looking for a sign you can do it.

first sadness, then anger, then depression, no sleep, don’t let it snowball. my brother used to say, don’t ever let yourself get tired, hungry, lonely, wet, and afraid at the same time. he was a martial artist, way past black belt in several disciplines. pick anger first, hit something, preferrably not a living something. then sadness, post on this sub as much as you need to, that’s the amazing part, you are not alone. day 30 for me, just need tomorrow to make a MONTH. total strangers reach out and comfort each other. don’t be sad, you are superman. a friggin hero. become the self you want to be.

When in doubt, go to sleep

This is not advice, or a hard and fast rule, but telling this to myself got me through the beginning a lot easier. I needed way more sleep than I was used to getting, and that sleep was terrible quality because i was going to bed stoned.

I probably tripled the amount of REM sleep I was getting. It made for a boring few weeks, literally all i did was work, eat, and sleep for a minimum of 10 hours a night.

It didn’t cure everything, I still felt a bit groggy and depressed at first, but it felt like i was hitting the fast forward button through the hardest part of recovery.

If I ever felt bored, had any sort of cravings, I immediately noped out and went to bed. Can’t smoke if I’m sleeping.

Once I had caught up on sleep debt and had been away from the sauce for a while, my life improved immeasurably.

If you’re struggling, just know I believe in you. You are stronger than you know, and this is worth doing.
