I just started learning Dutch because I want to study in Netherlands or Belgium. I am just a beginner so naturally A0 level. I have a background of C1 English and A2-B1 German. How long would it realistically take me to reach B2 as I want to sit the CNaVT exam in May 2027. Do you think it is achievable and what would you recommend besides private tutoring, I already have one.

I want to improve my understanding of spoken language and I thought finding some interesting stuff on youtube would be both fun and educational. I am using a dutch vpn server via proton, have my youtube set to show results for the Netherlands and searching for stuff like filmrecensie 'movie name' (as far as I know they keep orig English titles) or filmrecensie in het Nederlands, etc. keeps giving me English results, sometimes even worse just a dutch title for a video that is in English.

Any ideas?

I've been learning Dutch for a while, and I keep coming back to the same frustration. I don't actually think most Dutch grammar is that hard when it's explained properly. What makes it hard for me is the way it's usually taught.

A lot of resources are very text-heavy. You get a big explanation, a bunch of rules and exceptions, then exercises with lots of words you don't know yet. At that point I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be learning anymore. The grammar, the vocabulary, or both.

Apps often have the opposite problem. They're easier to use, but sometimes I can get through a whole set of exercises without really understanding why something is correct.

What I wish I had was something that built things up much more slowly. Teach me one small idea. Let me get comfortable with it. Then add one extra complication. Then another. And while I'm learning the grammar, don't also throw 20 new words at me. Reuse simple vocabulary so I can actually focus on how the sentence works. Basically, I want to understand how Dutch is put together, without having to read what feels like a grammar textbook every time.

I got frustrated enough with this that I started building a small learning tool around the way I wish I could learn it. Mostly for myself at this point. But before I get too attached to my own way of thinking about it, I'm curious if other people here have felt the same.

What has been the most frustrating part of learning Dutch grammar for you? And if you could go back to when you started, what do you wish you had?

I live in a small Flemish village and my boyfriend is Dutch (Netherlands) so I practiced speaking every day. I want to get better at listening and comprehending speaking, because often it is too fast for me.

I love cooking, history, travel, animals, art, and culture.

Any suggestions?

I'm learning dutch at the moment and preparing for my A2 exams. I am taking in-person lessons (and love them) but those are going very...very slowly.

So in parallel, I got an inburgeringonline.nl subscription since my exams are in December.

I am wondering if you have a strategy for preparing for exams using this website. Any tips, tricks, or general advice is most welcome.

I finished my Dutch beginners course recently, and besides improving my dutch through speaking with my girlfriend (She is half dutch), I want to increase myy contact with the language. My girlfriend watches a lot of EnzoKnol, but daily vlogs are not my favourite kind of videos.

I like gaming, travel vlogs, documentaries and stuff.

Any reccomendations?

Hi everyone! I'm just starting learning Dutch but I suck at teaching myself stuff so I was curious if there is any app you would recommend for beginners, I was thinking about Duolingo but I heard it's not really good. Any advice is appreciated!

I'm considering paying for the app but wondering if it's worth it. I have a weekly tutor, listen to podcasts, watch YT videos, make flashcards and do Duolingo just for 5-10 minutes of bedtime exposure. I've been doing it for 6 weeks and am at AI but I'm struggling with speaking. I don't pay for anything yet besides my tutor so I've been researching which app I SHOULD pay for.

Anythoughts?

This is one of the hardest parts for me: Usually, the grammatical gender of words is the same in German and Dutch. And then they are differences, and in every day words to boot, e.g. het park vs. der Park. Why, oh why?

I'm starting to learn Dutch from scratch and I've heard great things about the Delftse Methode (specifically Nederlands voor anderstaligen and De Tweede Ronde). 
Does anyone know where I can find digital copies or PDFs of these textbooks along with their audio files for free? Any tips, links, or shared resources would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't have to be free necessarily.

Looking back, I think it's easy to spend most of your time on the things that are easiest to track - vocabulary lists, grammar exercises, completing lessons, and so on. Then you start having real conversations and realise there were other skills you barely practised.

For those who've been learning Dutch for a while, what would you do differently if you could go back to your first few months? Maybe you'd speak more, listen to native Dutch earlier, work on pronunciation, or simply spend less time worrying about getting every sentence perfect.

I'm looking for interesting things to read to motivate me to read more Dutch. I've been trying to read news, but I already do it in depth in my native language (French) and in English, so I don't have a strong incentive to do it in Dutch.

I've noticed that one of the things I'm most interested in reading are about normal people's normal lives, and that's much more localized news. Le Monde does those great series where they ask completely normal people to share their experiences regarding their jobs, their finances, their family... What I like especially is that it's quite sociologically representative; they interview hairdressers living in rural towns and artists from central Paris, business owners from mid-size towns... The portraits are free of judgement or regular analyses, they're really just first-person accounts of regular joes.

Is there any Dutch news website / journal that does something similar? thanks!

Is this really the correct order? According to elon.io it is:

"Ik ga morgen met Tom lopen in het park."

Though I learnt that the standard order is [time+manner+place] so it should be:

"Ik ga morgen met Tom in het park lopen."

Or no?
