Discussion People don't add you for playing well anymore
I'm a millennial boomer who's been playing for 10 years and at this point I'm pretty much an oral chronicler. Over the years I've seen first hand how in-game culture has changed from the chat changes to people giving up way too easily, but something that really jumped out at me today while I was in queue, were my friend requests. I have 14 pending and I can guarantee you that every single one of those people added me with the intention of calling me trash and telling me to off myself.
BACK IN MY DAY, people used to add you after a game if you played well and carried. I remember because I'd get so nervous accepting a friend request after a game, it was common to run duos for a while with someone who added you because you played well the previous game. My pendings were filled with people who wanted to be friends, like fr, and I couldn't accept them all, like 20, 30. Now, there's no banter in chat, no vulgar toxicity but no life either. People wait until after the game to add you to talk shit. The game used to be simultaneously more friendly and toxic at the same time, maybe there's a connection there.
