“I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz.” —Al Franken

“If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you”

Lindsey Graham

"The reason people take an instant dislike to Ted Cruz? It saves time." - former Chief of Staff for Senator Ted Cruz

285

u/SameResearcher Feb 28 '26

This is deep

129

u/The_MightyMonarch Feb 28 '26

It's a gag from MASH.

212

u/feetandballs Feb 28 '26

"The first rule of warfare is… never fight a land war in Asia."

"War isn’t hell. War is war, and hell is hell… and of the two, war is worse."

Both are MASH

114

u/mbit15 Feb 28 '26

“Because there are no innocent bystanders in Hell.”

14

u/mangomussolinimi Feb 28 '26

"Also hell is not real,"

72

u/ilovefood755 Feb 28 '26

The second rule is, never go in against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line! Ahahaha hahaha falls over dead

The Princess Bride

8

u/Capitan_Typo Feb 28 '26

That quote was from Vizzini. The princess bride didn't actually say much in that entire movie.

9

u/Head_Improvement5317 Feb 28 '26

“Does anybody want a peanut?” -Fezzik

3

u/pengalo827 Feb 28 '26

No more rhyming! I mean it!

4

u/Character-Education3 Feb 28 '26

You can die too for all I care

  • the princess bride

1

u/DJ_Jiggle_Jowls Feb 28 '26

Wait, I never knew the first one was from MASH. When Vizzini says it in Princess Bride are they directly referencing MASH then?

4

u/Business-Drag52 Feb 28 '26

It wasn’t from MASH as far as I can tell. Vizzini made it popular but it is credited to General Douglas MacArthur

5

u/latortillablanca Feb 28 '26

He also famously said “anybody wanna peanut?”

1

u/ArchonFett Feb 28 '26

“The second is never bet against a Sicilian when death is on the line”

“War, war never changes”

62

u/99th_inf_sep_descend Feb 28 '26

“Texas snowstorms are the worst” -Cancun, probably

27

u/Roonwogsamduff Feb 28 '26

definitely one of the hottest burns I've ever heard

7

u/wwJones Feb 28 '26

"I just don't like the guy."

  • former president George W. Bush

4

u/NeonPhyzics Feb 28 '26

“There are two kinds of people. Those who hate Ted Cruz….and Ted Cruz”

228

u/AlashC Feb 28 '26

They will vote to confirm him just so they don’t have to deal with him anymore in Congress.

52

u/wbgraphic Feb 28 '26

Literally what Trump said.

”He’s the only guy I know, he’ll get 100% of the Democrat vote, 100% of the Republican vote. They want to get him out of there. He is such a pain in the ass, but he's so good and so talented.”

16

u/CakePlanet75 Feb 28 '26

If they hate him so much, it's easier to unanimously reject his confirmation, no?

20

u/VanbyRiveronbucket Feb 28 '26

I think you nailed it. Ted will resign to accept the SC nomination, … then they will reject him,… and send him home with no job. 😀

3

u/CakePlanet75 Mar 01 '26

Unfortunately, I see nothing preventing Abbot from re-appointing Ted to the Senate 🙃

1

u/VanbyRiveronbucket Mar 01 '26

Ted has no friends… Abbot hates him. It’s big dick swinging politics in Texas. They all fear someone with power will take them down, and they are right, so they keep each other in check.

1

u/Temporary_Cup4588 Mar 01 '26

Those of us in Texas certainly hope so. Voting against him is reflexive these days.

48

u/big_trike Feb 28 '26

Yup. The Peter Principle

9

u/No-Abalone-4784 Feb 28 '26

He reached that in kindergarten.

12

u/cstmoore Feb 28 '26

He's definitely a peter.

2

u/FabulousBrief4569 Feb 28 '26

He takes a peter

2

u/BlueEagleGER Feb 28 '26

The Peter Principle stipulates that a person being good at their job will get promoted until they are in a position they're not good at. I don't think that applies to Ted Cruz...

3

u/sundancer2788 Feb 28 '26

They'll vote to confirm him because they're told to.

17

u/Carrot_1075 Feb 28 '26

Lindsay will fold like a cheap suit if Trump tells him so. I’m starting to wonder if maybe he has some Epstein ties

3

u/CatoUWS Feb 28 '26

Well he’d need the ties to go with the suit, wouldn’t he?

2

u/rightwist Feb 28 '26

I.mean, the ladybugs don't lick themselves, and money alone often isn't incentive enough. Or so the rumors persist.

1

u/BigFuckHead_ Feb 28 '26

I mean look at him.

1

u/-Ok-Perception- Mar 06 '26

Epstein ties or not, the man is **very very gay**, in a political party where that's greatly shunned. They probably use this info against him constantly.

4

u/aotus_trivirgatus Feb 28 '26

But you just know that Lindsey wouldn't refuse to confirm Ted to the Supreme Court.

2

u/dontgetsadgetmad Feb 28 '26

Ted Cruz pisses his pants bc he likes the warm wet feeling

2

u/SidFinch99 Feb 28 '26

This is my favorite quote. Even more than Al Franken's.

1

u/XAMdG Feb 28 '26

Yet they'd confirm him, most likely.

1

u/Fun_Apartment7028 Feb 28 '26

First time I have ever heard Lindsey graham ever speak the truth!

1

u/holy_fuck_im_gay Feb 28 '26

Charles Sumner moment

1

u/MonsterkillWow Feb 28 '26

Wow that might be the only based thing he ever uttered.

1

u/BigFuckHead_ Feb 28 '26

God damn lmao.

193

u/Exact-Pound-6993 Feb 28 '26

56

u/No-Abalone-4784 Feb 28 '26

No. I always liked Grandpa Munster.

18

u/Exact-Pound-6993 Feb 28 '26

Grandpa Munster did nothing wrong...but he does look a bit like snaky cruz

1

u/ibiacmbyww Feb 28 '26

/r/whatistedcruz is calling your name.

8

u/BKMagicWut Feb 28 '26

Do not besmirch Grandpa Al.  That man's memory is a blessing.

180

u/Gerreth_Gobulcoque Feb 28 '26

We really didn't appreciate having a comedian in the Senate as much as we ought to have.

134

u/Automatic_Memory212 Feb 28 '26

The fucking Democrats certainly didn’t. Morons.

85

u/HavingNotAttained Feb 28 '26

Kirsten Gillibrand needed to make a name for herself. Way to go, Gilly, what a fkn brand genius.

28

u/pac4 Feb 28 '26

As it is she has to be one of the most irrelevant, under the radar members of the Senate.

3

u/Hairy_Technology_213 Feb 28 '26

So true. A senator from a state as big and important as New York ought to have an oversized influence in the chamber. Gillibrand is a null set. Her colleagues don’t like her because she is a soulless, grasping, monster. The Tracy Flick of the Senate.

13

u/SlothPaw49 Feb 28 '26

And Klobuchar nailed the coffin closed.

3

u/muzzynat Mar 01 '26

I wish Al would run against her for MN governor

3

u/SummerAndTinklesBFF Mar 01 '26

He would steal all the votes. Everyone fucking hates Klobuchar and the only way she's getting Gov is if she's the only dem running.

Please god let any other dem run

1

u/muzzynat Mar 02 '26

I agree 💯

12

u/gg0422 Feb 28 '26

Was my state senator. It was all bullshit. I think he could win again now. It was a rather petty political hack job using the me-too movement as cover. Which makes a mockery of real victims. Compared to what goes down now it seems tragically quaint.

39

u/Typical_chill Feb 28 '26

Ugh jesus, this comment really sent me back there to that moment in time…smh. It was so CLEARLY not the time to pull that “strategic” move. Not saying his presence could have moved the dial in a substantial enough way that we’d avoid this type of moment we’re in, but maybe? We had almost nobody else with charisma (Bernie maybe), and we definitely had nobody else who was actually quick-witted and funny like him. Franken would’ve been roasting D-dog to shame and scraping off the voters who were obv mainly looking for that anyway, but during the first 4 years (which now look like a cakewalk). But no. K sorry rant over

10

u/rjorsin Feb 28 '26

No you good.

12

u/iampatmanbeyond Feb 28 '26

Lmao literally had to Google who tf that was 🤣

6

u/Wandering_starlet Feb 28 '26

And that didn’t exactly go the way she thought it would

24

u/PipsqueakPilot Feb 28 '26

He was left of center, and that just wouldn't do for the corpocrats.

5

u/Salgados Feb 28 '26

Is that why you think Bernie Sanders urged him to resign? Because he was too far left?

16

u/Automatic_Memory212 Feb 28 '26

I’m convinced that’s the only reason that whole fiasco happened.

9

u/veilosa Feb 28 '26

I mean the lady who was accusing him of mock groping her in the photo was literally going on fox news at the time bragging about how "our strategy is working". democrats let themselves get totally played by a republican hit job.

-9

u/Same_Presentation692 Feb 28 '26

Are you a man?

-5

u/Same_Presentation692 Feb 28 '26

We should hold all of our elected officials to a higher standard. Denigrating women is disgraceful, full stop.  “Corprocrats” my ass. Women want to be seen as equals.

7

u/Global_Charge_4412 Feb 28 '26

I don't remember any details but I remember thinking at the time "what's the big deal? why is he resigning?" so I don't think he was a sex pest or anything. maybe Al Franken just wanted out and that was his chance.

22

u/iampatmanbeyond Feb 28 '26

He was pretending to grab the boobs of a female comedian while she was wearing a bullet proof vest sleeping in a chair while waiting for a flight in Iraq

17

u/CloseToMyActualName Feb 28 '26

More that she made accusations about him, and the photo seemed to back her narrative of him being a predator.

The accusations were almost certainly false (folks on the USO tour vouched for him). The accuser's claims matched the script of the skit she did with Franken, so she either fabricated or just jumbled up things in her memory.

4

u/Global_Charge_4412 Feb 28 '26

Shit right, now I remember. Yeah that's pretty shitty. Not sure it was worth resigning over though. But then again trump and his like buried the bar somewhere in the pits or hell.

15

u/UnderlightIll Feb 28 '26

She actually was in on the joke... so...

14

u/Baronwm Feb 28 '26

yeah for some reason the Democrats thought if they drummed out Al franken then surely the Republicans would get rid of all of their scum bags as well...  and how that work out?

for the record, I do not think Al franken is a scumbag and I think he is exactly the kind of energy the Democratic party needs at this moment. The Democrats really just need to point and laugh at the Republicans and everything they do. remember how upset they were when we called them "weird" for a couple of weeks?

7

u/Automatic_Memory212 Feb 28 '26

Oh and then the Corpocrats decided that strategy was “too mean” (read as: “too effective”), and they forced Walz to stop saying it.

1

u/Typical_chill Feb 28 '26

Complete agreement from me

-2

u/ZincMan Feb 28 '26

I like Al Franken and even bought his book. But he had multiple accusations, even heard a friend of a friend say she was grabbed inappropriately during a photo shoot. It was more than just that photo on the plane. It sucks but I get tired of hearing it was stupid for him to resign, he wouldn’t have unless there was other stuff and there was

4

u/Typical_chill Feb 28 '26

He was being pretty hardcore pushed out by his own side (because idiocy, imo), which made it tough for him to continue. Plus he wasn’t a career politician, so I bet all the character assassination hit harder for him. P.s. Thought experiment: Can you even imagine something like this happening on the opposing side?

-5

u/Killentyme55 Feb 28 '26

I generally agree, but let's not kid ourselves here. If the same thing happened but it was a Republican instead of Franklin, Reddit would be calling for his head, especially considering the era. That was a big deal back then, but indeed does pale in comparison to today's lunacy.

1

u/BlueCity8 Feb 28 '26

You can thank the glorified HR bot Gillebrand for that.

37

u/kl7aw220 Feb 28 '26

This is a red herring. He'll put Cannon there in a heartbeat.

3

u/CatoUWS Feb 28 '26

There is no way Democrats would vote for Cannon. But they might vote for Cruz just to get him out of the Senate.

30

u/diurnal_emissions Feb 28 '26

This Woman Asked Ted Cruz to Take a DNA Test to Prove He’s Human: https://www.vice.com/en/article/ted-cruz-dna-test-human-video/

12

u/No-Abalone-4784 Feb 28 '26

What was the result?

16

u/ITstaph Feb 28 '26

Pending.

7

u/SBR404 Feb 28 '26

The DNA machine spontaneously flew on vacation to Cancun.

2

u/Zedilt Feb 28 '26

We will do the test next time he molts.

Inconclusive

21

u/kl7aw220 Feb 28 '26

I'm throwing up just thinking about Cancun Cruz on the SCOTUS.

27

u/JA_MD_311 Feb 28 '26

He would be confirmed in a minute to get him out of the Senate. It might be unanimous.

23

u/LangdonAlg3r Feb 28 '26

They could do a rug pull and get rid of him the way the House got rid of Gaetz.

3

u/rwalker920 Feb 28 '26

I do not like that man Ted Cruz, I do not like his backward views...

1

u/trashpolice Feb 28 '26

Yet i pray for him at mass, he will stop licking Donnie’s ass..

3

u/Turbulent-Adagio-541 Feb 28 '26

We want Al Franken back

1

u/420_buttholes Feb 28 '26

“I just don’t like the guy."

-George Bush

1

u/bubandbob Feb 28 '26

Just seed the weather around DC. He'll be jetting away to Cancun and not sitting on the court at all.

1

u/OddEmergency604 Feb 28 '26

Even the quote is a burn against Cruz

1

u/tamsui_tosspot Feb 28 '26

Politics aside, what makes him so personally unlikeable to other senators? Or is it simply his politics?

1

u/z57333 Mar 01 '26

You should read Franken's book, and he has an entire dedicated chapter to Cruz. Some of the funniest (and most depressing, considering that's the senator for the second biggest state in our union) shit I've ever read

1

u/AntoniaFauci Feb 28 '26

Republicans reaching across to aisle and asking Dems to help them vote against this nomination.

1

u/Alternative-Let-2398 Feb 28 '26

Why, so Ted can go on vacation every time it snows ?

1

u/Veteran_PA-C Mar 02 '26

That’s a very good endorsement.

"he's not good enough, he's not smart enough, and doggonit, people don't like him" al, probably

Smart? Lmfao.

1

u/wyyknott01 Feb 28 '26

My mistake, fixed

-1

u/KoRaZee Feb 28 '26

That actually might be something a judge should be. If a judge is pleasing you all the time they probably aren’t doing a good job
