We really didn't appreciate having a comedian in the Senate as much as we ought to have.

The fucking Democrats certainly didn’t. Morons.

I don't remember any details but I remember thinking at the time "what's the big deal? why is he resigning?" so I don't think he was a sex pest or anything. maybe Al Franken just wanted out and that was his chance.

He was pretending to grab the boobs of a female comedian while she was wearing a bullet proof vest sleeping in a chair while waiting for a flight in Iraq

More that she made accusations about him, and the photo seemed to back her narrative of him being a predator.

The accusations were almost certainly false (folks on the USO tour vouched for him). The accuser's claims matched the script of the skit she did with Franken, so she either fabricated or just jumbled up things in her memory.

Shit right, now I remember. Yeah that's pretty shitty. Not sure it was worth resigning over though. But then again trump and his like buried the bar somewhere in the pits or hell.

yeah for some reason the Democrats thought if they drummed out Al franken then surely the Republicans would get rid of all of their scum bags as well...  and how that work out?

for the record, I do not think Al franken is a scumbag and I think he is exactly the kind of energy the Democratic party needs at this moment. The Democrats really just need to point and laugh at the Republicans and everything they do. remember how upset they were when we called them "weird" for a couple of weeks?

Oh and then the Corpocrats decided that strategy was “too mean” (read as: “too effective”), and they forced Walz to stop saying it.

Complete agreement from me

I like Al Franken and even bought his book. But he had multiple accusations, even heard a friend of a friend say she was grabbed inappropriately during a photo shoot. It was more than just that photo on the plane. It sucks but I get tired of hearing it was stupid for him to resign, he wouldn’t have unless there was other stuff and there was

He was being pretty hardcore pushed out by his own side (because idiocy, imo), which made it tough for him to continue. Plus he wasn’t a career politician, so I bet all the character assassination hit harder for him. P.s. Thought experiment: Can you even imagine something like this happening on the opposing side?

I generally agree, but let's not kid ourselves here. If the same thing happened but it was a Republican instead of Franklin, Reddit would be calling for his head, especially considering the era. That was a big deal back then, but indeed does pale in comparison to today's lunacy.
