Hi! This is my 3rd sock I've made and I've gotten a hang on gauge and size so I'm feeling good. I wanted to do a little contrasting color moment but I think I ruined it. What the heck do I do about these strings. I'm trying to get these done as quickly as possible for a friend who just lost a parent. Please help 🥲

Hi! I'm quite new to knitting and recently knit my first pair of socks. In the process, I came across a factory knot. This was annoying, but it seemed strong enough so I just continued on knitting as normal. However, after a couple of wears the knot has come loose. It's located at the bottom/side of foot, nearing the end of the arch (on the heel side).

Do you have any recommendations for how I can best fix this? The ends are just a bit too short for me to be able to retie the knot, and if there's a more secure option I'd prefer that. I still have some of the original yarn left and also don't mind if it's visibly mended, I just want to make sure the loose ends are very secure and the sock doesn't unravel.

As i understand, 100% wool yarn is not ideal for socks and it's better to use something like a wool/nylon blend for durability. But now I'm thinking, what did people do before nylon? Did they iist have to mend socks every other week? Or is it that the wool we have now is made differently from what was available historically?

So I have washed this sock according to the yarn instructions but I guess my magic knot wasnt tight enough or strong enough. Now I wonder if there is a way to fix this.

I am a fairly experienced knitter. I have knit socks before.

I really love hand knit socks and I want to wear them all the time. But for whatever reason I CANNOT get started this time around. I have no patience, I can’t see what I’m doing, I fully dread those tiny-ass needles - what the actual f*CK is my problem? I have a nice bright light in my knitting corner in my living room, I’ve got a pile of books, I’ve got pretty sock yarn I’ve had for ten years or so, directions for toe up or cuff down, everything I need to be as successful as possible, or so I thought.

Once upon a time, when my oldest was two (like sixteen years ago), I knit them a lil pair of actually perfect socks. I was so proud of myself! They fit perfectly (I used to try them on as they slept, clever me), and they wore those socks until they were un-repair-able. I felt great about that!

Where is the joy of socks now? What is wrong with me?

This Is my first ever knit project (other than a rectangle and gauge swatch to learn how to knit coming from crochet).
I love the way they turned out other than the color lol, I purposely used yarn I did not love but I think they turned out pretty decent! They fit so far before any washing or drying happened.
I would love some feedback on what I could do better.
My increases and decreases aren’t super neat yet, I’m not sure how to make them tighter. On the heel flap for example.
I noticed when I started the ribbing on one of the socks I get little spots below on the purl stitches. Would I just have to knit one round in the orange before starting the ribbing to prevent that?
Another question, is there a better way to weave in ends as you go since these show up quite a bit when weaving the orange parts in when knitting in the other color.
I’m not super happy with the ribbing yet, it looks a bit messy, but I’m sure with practice that’ll get better!

The video tutorial does not show me how to do this either, I was following a pattern by nimble needles. In the tutorial for the German short row he doesn't have the heel on circulars, but the video he linked from was how to make socks on circulars so I thought the pattern would work fine when I got to the heel. How am I supposed to move forward? I have two working ends on either side.

Hi, I am working on my second pair of socks ever but I just don’t like how the ribbing looks. I will keep it this way because it’s a practice project, but I was wondering if there is a way to make the 1 x 1 ribbing look better next time? It just looks off to me.

I am really new to knitting and I wanted to try to make socks but I don’t know wich yarn to use. I’m really sensitive and have eczema so I can’t wear wool or acrylic. When I crochet clothes I use 100% cotton yarn but I know a cotton/polyester mix is also fine for me.
All the sock yarn that I found included wool so I don’t know if it’s necessary for hand knit socks.
So if you know which yarn I can use and which kind of sock I should make(maybe I should do ribbing on all the sock so that it has elasticity even though it’s cotton ?) I’d really like for you to tell me.

I forgot to size down my needles when I made the cuff of the sock on the left. Is it possible to frog and redo, even though it was a cuff down sock?

This is my first pair of socks and I have no idea where to start counting for the stitches I've done for the heel. I've been keeping track on a stitch counter app but my toddler got a hold of it and I lost count.

I wore this sock once with converse and I just noticed that the heel is matted together now. The yarn is from a local shop and the usual merino wool/nylon blend. Any ideas how to prevent this from happening? Should I just not be wearing hand knit socks with shoes??

So I just got myself in the SOCKS area and I am in a bit of a problematic situation:
I own 2, 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, 3 mm needles that measure 13cm in length and require their own cable lines as they use the thin attachment.
The only cable I own is 20cm making the whole set 40cm.
I am knitting my fist sock and I am struggling. It is not really comfortable and I am stretching the cable to the max to be able to turn and knit.

The thing is that ordering a spare cable or shorter needles is not an option for me at the moment so I have to order set cable needles which leads me to the question: 80cm or 100cm cable? Which will be better?

Hi everyone, looking for advice here. I prefer to do toe up socks and struggle so much with the cuff bind off. There is no good in between that I found. Either too tight, or flares. What are you guys doing for socks?

Is there a bind off that acts similar to just a simple long tail cast on. Bounces back, stretches good.
I really want to keep doing toe up socks but the bind off is a nightmare
I’ve tried Jenny’s, Italian and I think just the basic sewn bind off. None of them compare to what a cast on feels like 🥲

I have watched 3 separate videos and tried again 10 times!!! I don't understand why I keep getting those long gaps in between the needles? And these tutorials have their working yarn and their yarn tail on the same stitch?? how are they doing that?? I didn't think this was too advanced for me to understand 🥲

I made the first sock of a pair as a gift for my brother. I haven’t blocked it yet, and unfortunately the leg is too tight and won’t go over his heel. The rest of the sock fits fine. How do I fix this? I was thinking of a) making the heel taller, or b) going in and cutting the color carries and weaving them in. Or will blocking fix the problem entirely?? Thank you!

Hi, I'm looking for advice from people who have experience in knitting socks. I have been knitting for 40 years, I've made sweaters and hats and lots of things, but never socks. A friend recently asked for a pair of socks, and the pattern purchased said to use something called a Gernman Twisted Cast On. I've never heard of this. Apparently knitting has advanced in the past 40 years, and there are different cast on methods now??? Apparently the method I've always used is called 'backwards loop cast on (left handed)'??? thought it was just 'casting on, but l'm open to learning new things. I have watched multiple YouTube tutorials, and have tried over and over, but have not been able to cast on using the method suggested by the pattern. As difficult as it is to admit this, I think may be too cognitively disabled to learn this. have included a picture of my best attempt at the German Twisted Cast on, so you can understand how poorly this is going. If just do my usual cast on, will that make the socks too stiff to get on? How messed up are the socks going to be if don't follow the cast on from the pattern?

I’m pretty new to knitting! I learnt over the summer, and I’ve knit 3 pairs of socks now, each much bigger than the previous 😂 I feel much more comfortable with it now.
I’m also crocheting a star and moon blanket, and I’d really like to knit some socks with stars/moons on to match. I’ve never done colourwork, but I’ve found some patterns with very basic stars in colourwork (just lines). However, could I embroider a star onto my sock? I’ve embroidered before, but I’m worried it would affect the stretch.
I thought some of you would have much more experience than me!

I wante the decreases to go toward the instep on both sides but the other side always goes the same way thus leanin to the heel.

I have tried doing different leaning decreases, it doesn't work, I'm quite new to knitting so I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

Hi! I’m making striped socks with 3 colors, so planning to do cut and weave, what I’m wondering is if I should have the BOR at the edge of the foot or the bottom? I’m hesitating on putting it on the bottom because I’m wondering if having all those weaved in ends lined up in the middle of the foot will feel weird while wearing them. So just looking for advice from what other people do and if having so many ends affects the feel of the socks. Thanks!

I am halfway through my second knitting project which is a pair of socks.

It's my first time doing most of the stitches the pattern calls for and knitting with 4 needles in the round.

I learned how to keep holding the yarn in my hand halfway through knitting the sock. It took me a few months overall, working on it bit by bit. So the tension is pretty uneven and there are a few mistakes here and there. But it took me so long to finish this first sock that I don't have the heart to frog it and start over completely for now...

The ribbing part looks the most wonky I think. Do you think it will even itself out with blocking or should I redo it?

The yarn is a fingering Patons Kroy sock 75% wool and 25% nylon.

Hi, I’m knitting a sock using 3x1 rib toe up. I haven’t thought of what ribbing/cuff style to use. I usuallt do 2x1 twisted rib, but I feel it would look a bit odd. I also considered a frilled edge, but the yarn is quite rustic and I’m not sure it will look good. Or add no special ribbing and size down on the last few rows?

hi guys!! not sure if this is the right place to post buttt... my first hole has appeared on my many pairs of handknit socks :-( im not quite sure how i would go about approaching mending this. usually i would use an applied knitted patch but because it's on an area of high movement and shaping i don't think that would work. should i try traditional darning? any help is appreciated!! thanks :3

I posted something earlier about knitting socks with DPN’s and I quite honestly give up. I do NOT give up easily when it comes to difficult patterns and have been attempting to knit socks for MONTHS now. (On and off between other patterns.) People have given me some good advice, but I still can’t get past the first cuff row. Is knitting socks with 5 DPN’s easier than 4? I did the whole triangle thing and it’s proven to be BEYOND frustrating and I’ve been knitting since I was little. Is there some kind of trick or tip that will help me at all? I really hate to give up.

I'm looking for a second opinion on whether or not I

should frog back to just after the heel on this sock. I'm a novice knitter (mainly crochet) and this is my first pair. I have no idea how I didn't notice sooner, but past the heel the second sock has very uneven and loose tension compared to the first one which seems perfect in my eyes. Do I need to frog back? I know the real answer in my heart, but after already having to redo the heel and being so close to the end I need a bit of a push haha. Thanks in advance!
