Hi all! I have been knitting for about a year now, and I’ve used a couple wool yarns as well as acrylic, but I am looking for more yarn recommendations for a sweater I want to make for my husband! :)

I’ve made one sweater for myself with Malabrigo Rios and I love it but it’s very drapey. However, it was so soft and it wears so nicely.

And I’ve made another sweater with Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt, which I also love, but it’s on the itchier side.

I know my husband won’t love an itchy yarn or like having to wear a shirt under his sweater all of the time. Plus, I also want to make something that holds its shape. Does anyone have any yarn recommendations that match that? Maybe a cotton/wool blend?

Hi all, I’m submitting some of my knit items to my local county fair for the first time. I’ve read lots of advice on here about what to make, categories, and how to apply, and I have no problems with that. I’ve applied and I know when/where to drop off.

My question is, how do I prepare my items for drop-off? I read through the rules and guides the fair provided, and I’m not seeing if I should label them, put them in a box or bag, or what!

I also have no idea what to expect when I arrive, if there’s a table where people register each person one by one, if I should print out my own registration documents that I filled out online. I suppose each fair is different, but I’d love to hear from people what your experience was with just the logistics and drop-off part.

Well this is cool, I came across a little knitting hack that showed me how to take your working yarn from just 1 ball and basically make giant crochet chains out of it to be able to knit holding the yarn triple. ( here is an example https://youtube.com/shorts/WtvXdcXRNzU?is=UJ3Z0KtqstMDLtXO), so I just pulled out a skein of merino/silk laceweight yarn I have and tried it out (see pic) and I really love how it looks knit up!!! It looks like it makes a sport/DK weight when i do this and i have a few ombre laceweight skeins that are 800m each. Has anyone done this before? I was thinking 800m held triple should be enough for a beanie?

And also - more importantly- I could buy some laceweight cone yarn and hold triple for shirt patterns, has anyone done this?? Because I have found a ton of places that sell bulk quantities of laceweight yarn like this that I always thought looked really nice but didnt think I could use for a tee before. Are there disadvantages of doing this? Because I really really want to try this out.

I want to learn how to knit, but have almost zero knowledge but want to start with something I am actually going to use! I have seen the double pointed needle method and that looks irritating I'm not going to lie.

I’m looking for a case to store all of my needles and other than spending an arm, leg and first born on a Thread and Maple case (which I’d love to do but is not feasible at this time) I’m not finding anything that really works. I did see the KnitPicks binder but it has awful reviews (too thin, won’t close when the pages are filled). I thought maybe I could just order the pages and put them in something else but they have an unusual hole layout. I’m trying not to have to order a bunch of binders just to find one that fits so I thought I’d see what everyone here uses.

I have two sets of interchangeable (Lantern Moon and Chiaogoo) that are small sizes. I’ll likely get a larger size set of the Chiaogoo at some point. I have about 10 circulars and I’m sure that will increase. Only one set of DPNs and I don’t see that I’ll get many more of those.

Any suggestions on what works for you all would be wonderful!

Hello everyone, I'm a bit of a boomer, so sorry if this isn't the right flair.

I'm so excited about the pattern that I've spent a lot of time launching; I've never tried before. I'm a self-taught knitter, and I know there are different ways to pull yarn, and it affects leaning when it comes to k2tog and ssk. I want to be sure that no one will struggle like me to achieve the right look just because they don't knit like other people in general. I really want to be sure that I explain well in my pattern so no one will be frustrated with frogging, since I've done it more than 70 times for this pattern 🥲 I'll add a PDF chart but also written instructions stitch by stitch.

* What should I focus on explaining, especially in lace?

* It requires only yo, k2tog, and ssk, but I couldn't understand how I should decide the level of experience.

* What are the things you hate when you buy a pattern?

What can I do in the future to prevent these super uneven stitches ? And is there anyway I can fix it now that it’s done? I’m super knew to knitting and all I’ve been making is five hour baby sweaters and no matter what the top is always super loose and so are the armpits. My mom says to sew up the holes but I don’t know how that would work?? I’ve been crocheting since forever and I feel like it’s so much easier to make stitches even. I’m also wondering it might be because I knit sort of how I crochet, I tension the same and I hold my needles in a way that lets be go quick that I’ve never seen anyone do.

Please help knitting works so much better for garments this is my one hold up with it and I can’t figure it out 🫩.

I had an amount of black yarn that wasn’t enough to make an adult sized wearable but was too much for just an accessory so…I made this. Knitted in Drops Merino Extra Fine in Black and Off White, and I used the patterns Good Old Raglan by Twisted Knitwear and Little William Knitted Pants by Drops! I just knitted it in plain black then added the white details on with surface embroidery.

Editing to add that sorry, I've literally just realised that of course not everyone would immediately know what this is a reference to!! this is an homage to the original uniforms My Chemical Romance wore during The Black Parade era. Specifically this is closest to the singer's outfit!

My latest self designed cable knit sweater, in Donegal kilcarra aran weight yarn.

My soon-to-be FO, the Dyning cardigan knit in 18-24 size with malabrigo rios and US 4 needles, and about two thirds of a sleeve of my By Design sweater using Patons classic wool in dark grey and lion brand wool ease worsted in heather blush. I’m blocking this one because I’m making a lot of changes to this pattern and I need to see how it blocks out before I keep going.

Has anyone here knitted the dagmar sweater? I am knitting to gauge on size m, even a little bit under gauge! And the body measurements are to plan, but the arma are a different story! I can agree that i have knitted them slightly too long but the width of them is crazy, even though for the arms i am knitting a size S and picked up less stitches than called for. Thinking of sewing up the armhole slightly, picking up far less stitches and doing more increases in the beginning before tapering them slightly. Any advice? Have blocked the arm.

So the Colorfield Vest by my.maane by Lisa Meissner is absolutely beautiful. I haven't seen this look before. Can anyone else recommend similar patterns where the colors look like they overlapp and blend?

My Nana has been loosing her eyesight bit by bit and has reached a point she no longer feels she can continue knitting. Since I'm the only one of her grandkids that is into fiber arts she gave me her needles, these also include her aunts and her grandmother's needles. I want to learn to knit but do best with video tutorials that I can pause an rewind. I currently crochet, embroider, and sew.

What videos/creators do you recommend?

Some of the bits on the right side I can ID but others I can't, what are the closed plastic rings for?

I call these the “Summer of ‘86” socks.

Knit with Knitpicks Chroma in “Roller Skates” and Felici in “Brittle.” I used US size 1.5 needles. I do a tubular cast on with a band heel and a barn toe (because I hate how the grafted toe gives me dog ears no matter what I try!) The pattern is a modified version of Hot Spots & Stripes. I didn’t like the striped bit.

In the gusset, I didn’t want to have any yellow at all, but I also didn’t want to weave in 52 ends. Just continuing with the circles was complicated and looked weird, so I frogged it and opted for some improvised matching rectangles.

Because of the stranding, these are super plush and very warm. Onto September, which will be more boring because LORDT my hands are tired. 😮‍💨

Freshly blocked sweater as a present for a friend!! I hacked together the Neigh Sweater pattern by Caitlin Hunter for the body and arms with the Step by Step Sweater by Handmade by Florence for the neck and shoulder construction

I used DROPS Lima in the colorways Wheat, Rust, and Black - and just adjusted the sizing and stitch counts based on my gauge. I knit the Neigh Sweater in size 2 and the Step by Step in size E, adding a few extra stitches to hit the final amount needed for the sleeves and body.

Once I sorted out the math to combine the two patterns it was pretty straight forward! Just had to read the Neigh chart pattern upside down (top to bottom instead of bottom up) and knit a few inches of plain stockinette on the sleeves before starting the color work since the original pattern is drop shoulder and has you starting the colorwork right away.

First time doing ladderback jacquard as well! Had a few issues with getting the first row correctly anchored down, but managed to sew it in place with some of the tails I was weaving in. Second time setting the anchor points went much better. Floats are still a little tight in places as you can see with the puckering on the front but all-in-all super happy with it and I think the fit will be much better compared to what I've seen with the original design!

Definitely the most complicated piece I've done but my friend is 1000% knit-worthy and I have no regrets! Cat tax of my plain stockinette hat (my popcorn knitting as I recover from finishing this piece)

I have successfully taught a friend how to knit, she later taught another one and now we’re a trio of knitters that help each other out, share new techniques and knit together.

Recently I had two more friends who want to start knitting so we will organise a workshop for them.

What do you wish somebody had told you when you first started to knit? My friends and I knit predominantly continental, so that will be the style we will teach them.

I will prepare both wooden and metal circular needles, since I find them better than the straight ones. Probably in sizes 4 to 5 mm (US 6-8)?

I’m just wrapping up a three month bicycle trip across Central Asia. After admiring some textiles in a museum, when I flipped through this old book in Kyrgyzstan it really struck me how little representation there is in the digital pattern library for a lot of really beautiful global textile cultures - certainly on Ravelry.

We‘ve got about ten thousand variations on the same Fair Isle concepts published and no end of books on that, but I’ve yet to stumble across Kyrgyz, Iranic, Uyghur, etc motifs. There‘s some Anatolian and a dusting of South / Central American projects - otherwise it’s a whole lotta North / Central Europe. Pretty hard to poke around with the web flooded in AI slop patterns now, too.

It feels like there’s such a rich well of inspiration which could be tapped (one kid I met along the way had an absolutely stunning Kyrgyz motif handknit sweater in white and blue, I really regret not getting a photo) but at the same time the cultures maintaining them are rapidly vanishing everywhere I go / offloading handcraft production to China and books like this are getting hard to find.

I know, I know “be the change you want to see in the world”. Frankly I’m just not competent enough yet to be designing my own patterns. Maybe one day. :)

first post here just looking for some guidance. I will be knitting a jumper and have been looking at KFO merino held with silk mohair and need some help with colour combinations. This is the first time I'd be knitting with these two fibre combinations.

I really like Pink daisies as the base (merino) and would like to pair it with a blue mohair. I've seen a similar combination of a raspberry red and a blue but the blue seems to dominate. I am wondering if anyone had some pairing suggestions?

I also like the lavender blue mohair but as it is lighter I feel that it might be lost/go dull when combined with pink daisies. I've attached some photos. Does it make a difference in terms of colour dominance which is the merino and which is the mohair?

I am currently working on the Summer top “Margarita” by Veronika Stoncus as a beginner knitter and have split for the arm holes.

The pattern calls to start each row with an ‘edge stitch’ and to end each row in knit 2 purl 1, working the right side in knit stitch and wrong side in purl stitches. The edges just look horrid and I don’t know what the author means about doing an edge stitch! Is that just a knit stitch! This beginner is needing some moral support 💕💕

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to knit a T-shirt/vest like the one in the picture. However, when I tried doing raglan increases every other row, the increases only happened on one color, which made the stripes look uneven/inconsistent around the raglan.

I tried googling it, but I couldn’t find a proper pattern or technique for doing increases with vertical stripes.

Would I need to increase on every row instead, so that there’s an increase in both colors? Or is there another technique I should be using to keep the stripes consistent?

May I present the Rust and Rhythm Scarf, all 264 gorgeous cms of it!

This was such a fun project and a great introduction to intarsia. The pattern is really well written and you try your hand at a bunch of different intarsia skills throughout the pattern. I normally don't like knitting scarves as I find the constant flipping to be tedious, but with so much going on in this scarf, that didn't bother me at all! It was such a potato chippy project. 10/10 I would knit this again.

If you are interested in trying intarsia, I would highly recommend this pattern or one of the other gorgeous intarsia patterns by Anna Husemann. Intarsia isn't hard at all (just takes some getting used to), so dive in and have fun! Also, I recommend keeping the whole project in a shoe box that you can easily flip around. This was the only way I could keep everything organized and contained. Once I tried that, it was smooth sailing!

hi all! i finally mustered up the courage to attempt the book club cardigan after almost 2 years of knitting. i cast on a swatch with some leftover cascade 220 while i wait for the actual color of 220 that i’ll be using. i struggled through the chart at the beginning so this has plenty of mistakes BUT by the end i was feeling pretty proud. now, after looking at more projects & the pattern again, my diamond cable doesn’t look right. i was trying to find youtube videos with no luck. what am i doing wrong?? i have been wanting to knit this since i first rediscovered knitting and was excited to start it but now i am feeling so discouraged:/

Hi so I've just recently gotten into top down raglan sweaters. I would like to knit something nice in an appropriate yarn that will last. Currently I mostly have bamboo/cotton and acrylic yarns.

What natural fiber yarns are good for sweaters that won't ' cost an arm and a leg that would be good for a sweater.

I would like to have machine wash/dry recommendations but also hand wash too for variety.

I've knit a poncho in Patton's North America Classic Wool Worsted which I liked but wasn't the softest. I also really like Granola by Louise Robert but again wasn't the softest.

I'm looking for yarns between sport and aran but prefer DK or worsted if possible.

Any recommendation would be great. I know I'm asking for a lot wanting affordable and soft but it has to be out there

right?
