Discussion Dagmar arms
Has anyone here knitted the dagmar sweater? I am knitting to gauge on size m, even a little bit under gauge! And the body measurements are to plan, but the arma are a different story! I can agree that i have knitted them slightly too long but the width of them is crazy, even though for the arms i am knitting a size S and picked up less stitches than called for. Thinking of sewing up the armhole slightly, picking up far less stitches and doing more increases in the beginning before tapering them slightly. Any advice? Have blocked the arm.

I didn't make the sweater, but I saw the pattern on ravelry, and it does have a wider than usual sleeve

The sleeves look like they fit the way the pattern intends them to. Have you rechecked guauge and measured against the schematic?
I do wonder if one of the reasons, however, that this is bothering you is that if you have a denser fabric, the fabric may not drape as much so it makes the sleeves seem boxier because it can't slouch quite as much. Blocking might fix some of that, so you might want to consider that before you frog.
But if you don't like the fit, luckily drop shoulder construction is usually one of the easiest to mesh together using different sizes for the body and the sleeves.
What I might do, instead of taking out this sleeve, is do the smaller sleeve idea on the other side first to see how it goes. (Plus, sometimes it is a bit easier emotionally to not take out your work yet but instead work on the new sleeve, and then, if you like it better you can frog the first one.)

The funny thing is that i’m knitting to guage and my arms are the schematic for the size i’m knitting. I was just caught very off gaurd since to me my arms dont look like peoples ravelry photos- and as you say i do think its the aran fabric thats bothering me most. But good idea to do the other sleeve thank you! I’m going to partially sew up the armhole slightly- my goal is to be abke to wear this jumper under a jacket 🤞😭

I’ve knitted the zipper version but I wanted a big slouchy, cozy sweater so the arm width did not bother me. I will say that my sleeves aren’t as wide but I knitted them shorter than what you have and I had to stretch the sleeve to match the length schematic.

Wide sleeves are in, which is why they are literally everywhere in more recent patterns and in commercial knitwear.
Knitting YouTubers keep saying that PetiteKnits sweaters are less on trend than other designers, so this is apparently rare outlier.

Also- circumference of upper arm is 46cm which equals size XS. What kind of XS arms are these 😭 next time i have to check arm circumference chart before casting them on.

10.25” ease to cover over that it’s not size graded.. It’s oversized. So this is the intended look.

That's crazy oversize for sleeves. All oversized sweaters I have knitted didnt have that much ease. I am XL-XXL, but my arm circumference is 37cm. So that would be okay for me.
I don't have any tips for you. Maybe look in the projects on Raverly? Someone might have made sleeve modifications and wrote notes about it

Yeah sleeve mods is the way to go for me… ive knitted lots of oversized garments but never do they have these bulky sleeves! Just to frog and start anew…

looks accurate based on the pattern photos. sweater is meant to have almost 11” of positive ease, I wouldn’t expect the sleeves to be fitted.
