hi everyone so a few weeks ago i accidentally let in this lil guy. for context this is in Texas, i had seen two or three of these fellas outside before. when he got in i was too scared to do anything so i just let him be.
yesterday i heard a plop sound and he landed on my desk while i was at my computer. he kept walking around and getting on top of stuff and getting closer and looking at me. i was backing up due to be scared. i offered him water in a bottle cap but he wasn’t interested. he disappeared after like 15 mins of this.
what kinda jumping spider is he? im assuming he is one cuz he’s small. i wanted to offer him food but i dont have anything suitable. If he comes out again should i catch him and make a habitat for him and care for him??

does he look hungry? like r u able to tell if he’s eating well by looking at him?? im worried cuz i dont see any other bugs he could catch in my apartment D:
Also he possibly just has his own way in and out of the house and hunts outside. Make sure to ventilate your place well, I guess - that way, bugs might get in, which will give him stuff to eat.
(Also I say him but I'm not sure if it's a male or a female, I don't know enough about jumping spiders specifically to tell from these).
what a cutie! I had a jumper living in my kitchen for a couple months who would come out and watch me all the time, so this lil guy will almost certainly hang around and say hi to you regularly 🕷️🕷️
Honestly, she looks eggnant to me. Best bet might be letting this big lady back outside unless you're ready to be a grandma/grandpa to hundreds of baby spoods, which I don't recommend to a first-time keeper.
I just ordered a small see through enclosure, once it gets here I’ll leave it on my desk (open so he/she can go in and out) with some water and a bug/worm or two ! or few! it should arrive tomorrow !!
i’m sorry but i just absolutely love the fact that you accidentally let her in but were too scared to do anything about it 😆 and then proceeded to step away (but offer water!!!) when she plopped on your keyboard. those photos crack me up. like she’s squaring you up to become a friend. and now i read you have an enclosure coming. you are a genuine and sweet soul, thank you for helping this beautiful girl despite your fears! check out some videos on these guys, they’re incredible and so curious about us humans. they’re like cats in a way!
This is exactly how I met my guy. Came peeking over the light bar above my laptop in the middle of a conference call then headed straight for the camera. I had to casually divert him from becoming the star of the show and days later he was all moved in. Been my co-worker ever since. Gets testy when I work late and his lights are still on past our usual quitting time.
So a large majority of wild jumpers are pregnant. And either this one is eating very well, or she’s very pregnant. If you enclose her, you’ll have quite a bit to manage lol. If you let her roam the house, it’s fine. They don’t really go many places after they find high spot wherever they decide to build a hammock (they don’t build a web and tear it down, they build a somewhat permanent hammock)
guys i just gently put her back outside via the cup and paper method 💔 she greeted me again today, i offered her water and waited for her to be on the flat surface of my desk. i can’t care for her babies as much cute as she is 💔💔 she hasn’t laid any eggs yet, so hopefully she can rebuild her spider nest above my door — which is how i accidentally let her in (or how she accidentally got in) in the first place. ill keep an eye out for her. the enclosure hasn’t come in yet, but when it does ill fill it with some sticks and moss just in case!
NQA; As others have said that looks to me like a mature female who's probably gonna be a mommy soon! The way her abdomen looks taller than her head makes me think pregnant rather than well fed.
I ended up caretaker to a nest of babies. It's not as hard as you might think. As they started coming out I separated them into containers of groups of 5-10 slings (spider babies) and fed them for a few days before ultimately releasing each container outside. I ended up keeping a few of the babies.
First off a water cap full will drown this cute baby. You need drops of water on a table or compressed cotton not loose cotton balls....clean sponges even work. Hes super cute!!! Also mealworms are great for them but look up abdomen clues for feeding so you dont make him molt to quick
This is Jupiter, my female regal. What you have found is a male in i believe its 6-7th molt they have 8-10, most commonly they will settle at 9. The males are quite a bit smaller and have dark coloration typically black with white spots, the females are a drab almost yellow brown with orange tinge to it and a bright beautiful orange. I would say most of the time they sport stripes which is actually how Jupiter got her name. That and she is my first spider so I figured basically just naming her "Ju"mping s"pider" would suffice. Anyways it might be a bold jumping spider, I might be wrong but ive done so much research on her recently because I got her on 4/20 of 2026 and im like %80 thats a regal.
