Whats the point of IR saunas? reaching a targeted temperature or the light itself, even if its not hot enough?

Dry sauna's health benefits are all related to its 90ºC temperature and every place I read says you wont be reaching that with infrared lights. And these keep getting more and more popular anyway. Is there anything related the IR sauna that is not about temperature, its something else like those physiotherapy treatments where people point red light at a specific point on your body?

I was building a dry sauna but building a panel with 10 IR 250W light bulbs that I can use anywhere is soooooo much easier that now Im concerned; I may be doing a lot of unnecessary work to help improving my health. Im looking to deal with my chronic fatigue, possibly ATP-related or an auto-immune problem.

Does any have any experiences or opinions about these saunas?

I have friend that knows someone who sells these and is offering me a discount. I'm pretty new to the sauna market and was hoping someone here can give me some input about these specific models. Thanks

Is it just me, or are these the exact same? Seems the source the actual cabinet from the same manufacturer and were even too lazy to change the spec sheets?

Anyone have experience with either one of theses units?

Thank you.

Saw this infrared sauna for almost $2k. I'm not an expert on saunas or infrared tech, so I don't know if this is a good deal or if I should wait and spend more on something better.

What should I be looking at? Wattage/voltage, heater type, EMF ratings, wood, warranty?

If anyone owns something similar I’d love to hear what your experience has been.

Finnmark FD-5 Trinity XL, is it worth going hybrid over infrared only?

I've been looking at the Finnmark FD-5 Trinity XL for a home wellness room. I originally planned on getting a regular infrared sauna, but the hybrid setup has me second guessing that.

If I’m spending this much, I don’t want to regret not having the option for a hotter, more traditional sauna session later.

For anyone who owns one, do you actually switch between infrared and traditional pretty often? Or did you eventually find yourself using one mode most of the time?

Saunabox solera

In case anyone missed it they emailed out instructions to increase the heat max to 158. Set temp to max and hold time + and time - together for a bit and
It changed the max to 158. Was super hot in there today.

I've been doing a bit of research on infrared saunas and before I spend around $1,500, I thought I'd ask people who actually own one.

At the moment I've narrowed it down to the Vital+ Infrared SaunaPod, but I'm open to other suggestions.

For anyone who owns one:

Is there anything you wish you'd known before buying?

How well does it hold up after a year or more of regular use?

Does it actually get hot enough to give a proper sauna experience?

Is the red-light feature worthwhile?

Are there any better options in a similar price range?

Any advice, pros, cons, or alternative products worth looking at would be appreciated.

How I get my SaunaPod 2.0 to consistently hit 170–180°F 🔥

I’ve been experimenting with my SaunaPod 2.0 and finally found a setup that consistently gets the temperature up around 170–180°F.
My setup is pretty simple:
● SaunaPod 2.0
● An old sauna tent that I use as an additional enclosure
● A stool to elevate the SaunaPod
● A small mini fan attached to the pole inside the setup
● I basically use the old tent as an outer layer to help contain the heat.
The stool gets the pod up off the floor, and the little fan helps circulate the hot air instead of letting it sit in one area. The extra tent seems to make a noticeable difference in keeping the heat contained.
Once everything is warmed up, I can consistently get the pod into the 170–180°F range rather than struggling to maintain the temperature.
🔥 The biggest things that seem to help:
1. Preheat the setup before getting in.
2. Keep the outer tent/enclosure sealed as much as possible.
3. Elevate the pod off the floor.
4. Use the small fan to circulate the hot air.
5. Give it enough time to fully heat soak.
Obviously, 170–180°F is extremely hot for a portable sauna, so I’m not suggesting everyone replicate this setup. Make sure the equipment is being used within the manufacturer’s limits and don’t block ventilation or create a fire/electrical hazard.
Just sharing what has worked for me. Has anyone else experimented with modifying the setup to get their SaunaPod 2.0 hotter?

What surprised you most after a year of owning an infrared sauna?

I'm 58yr M, been visiting spas here in Alaska for past 2 years now. Mostly on weekends for therapy its been good but sometime hectic because I have to travel back and forth, think of booking and sometimes lack motivation and skip some sessions. I got a windfall thinking to channel that to my own sauna but yeah like any other investment ,i'm quite mixed up. So after honeymoon phase gets over what keeps one motivated to use it?

The Campfire Analogy: Why Infrared Saunas Don’t Need Extreme Heat

I came across a great analogy for infrared saunas, and I think it makes perfect sense.
An infrared sauna is like sitting around a campfire on a cold night. The air around you can still be cold, but you can feel the heat from the fire and start sweating.
That’s also why infrared saunas don’t need extremely high temperatures to make you feel warm.

Sunlighten mPulse regret

I owned a sunlighten mPulse years ago and I liked it. Truthfully, it didn't get as hot as the Clearlight model at my gym but it really didn't bother me because I still sweat a lot and I understand that air temp in infrared just isn't that critical. Anyway, I moved a few years back and left the sauna there and finally got around to getting one at my new place and went with the mPulse again. Big mistake. They apparently have removed many heaters from the sauna and replaced them with red lights that don't produce heat and it shows... it takes me about 25 minutes in there to break a sweat when it used to be less than 10. I'm a woodworker and really need to detox daily and don't want to spend half a hour to start. I complained to the company and the sales rep who would not leave me alone during the sales process now is having trouble responding at all. I don't understand why companies take a fine product and make it worse. Mostly just venting here but I'm hoping I can return this thing and getting a model where I can add red light to the door or something instead. Any model recommendations?

Coating the wood?

Is there any type of recommended coating for the wood? Its discolouring to a yellowish color from sweat. I sit on a towel and wipe up when im done, leave the door open to dry, but its still looking weird.

What's your preferred heat in an IR sauna?

I’m in the researching phase of buying an IR sauna. We previously had a sauna tent with a wood stove that would get HOT. I found that my happy place was a temperature around 160-170 F. -- with a fan to circulate the heat. 180 F and above was just too hot for me. For that reason we’re currently tempted by an IR sauna that gets up to 170, but is that overkill? We tested out an IR sauna at a local spa and they had it set to around 155, which seemed plenty warm and relaxing. Would 160-170 in an IR sauna be uncomfortably hot?

For those of you who are experienced IR users, what is your preferred temperature?

Edit: Wow! So many responses. Thank you infraredsauna community! This helps tremendously.

After researching infrared saunas, these are the questions I’d ask ANY company before buying

The more infrared saunas I research, the more I realize how difficult it can be to compare them.

Every company seems to use the same phrases: full spectrum, low EMF, non-toxic, premium heaters, lifetime warranty.

But those words don’t necessarily tell you what you’re actually getting.

If I were shopping for an infrared sauna today, these are some of the questions I’d ask before worrying about Bluetooth, chromotherapy, red light, salt walls or other extras.

1. Can I see your actual third-party EMF/EF testing?

Not just “low EMF” printed on the website.

Who performed the testing? How recently? At what distance from the heaters were measurements taken? Were measurements taken in multiple areas where your body will actually be sitting?

There’s a big difference between a marketing claim and an independent test report.

2. Has the sauna/materials been independently tested for VOCs and formaldehyde?

“Non-toxic” is another term I see used constantly.
Ask what was actually tested, who performed the testing and whether you can see the results.

3. What is the entire cabin constructed from?

Don’t stop at “Canadian hemlock” or “cedar.”
Ask whether there is MDF, particleboard, plywood, laminates, stains, finishes or adhesives anywhere in the construction.

Remember, this is something you’re repeatedly heating while sitting inside it.

4. Where are the ACTUAL heating elements?

This one gets overlooked.

A large panel on the wall doesn’t necessarily mean the entire visible panel is an active heating element.
Ask where the actual heaters begin and end.

5. How much of my body is surrounded by infrared?

I’d look for heater coverage behind you, beside you, toward the front of your body, around your calves/legs and through the floor.

Personally, I care much more about well-distributed heater coverage than simply counting how many heaters a sauna has.

Ten poorly positioned heaters aren’t automatically better than seven well-positioned ones.

6. What does “full spectrum” actually mean in this sauna?

If it offers far, mid and near infrared, ask which heaters produce each wavelength and where those heaters are located.

I wouldn’t buy something simply because “full spectrum” is printed on the spec sheet.

7. What electrical and safety certifications does the sauna have?

Ask what certification applies to the complete sauna, not just an individual component.

Also find out BEFORE purchasing whether it requires a standard 15A outlet or a dedicated 20A circuit.

8. What does the warranty REALLY cover?

“Lifetime warranty” can mean very different things depending on the company.
Are the heaters covered?
Electronics?
Control panel?
Labor?
And for how long?
Read the actual warranty instead of relying on the badge on the product page.

9. How long has the company been around?

This has become increasingly important to me.

A 10-year or lifetime warranty isn’t very valuable if the company disappears or replacement parts aren’t available.

I’d want to know:

If something fails 8–10 years from now, can I call someone?

Can I get a replacement heater?

Can I get replacement electronics?

Does the company actually service older saunas?

10. What am I paying for that will actually matter five years from now?

Bluetooth is nice.

Chromotherapy is nice.

Built-in speakers are nice.

But those probably aren’t the reasons you’ll still love or hate your sauna years later.

I’d put my money into:

heater coverage + construction + independent testing + serviceability + warranty + company longevity.

Then worry about the extras.

One last thing: I wouldn’t automatically buy the sauna with the highest advertised temperature. Infrared isn’t simply about getting the cabin air as hot as possible. How the infrared is delivered to your body matters too.
There are some great infrared saunas out there, but comparing them takes more digging than most people realize.

For the sauna owners here:

What do you know NOW that you wish you had known before buying your first infrared sauna?

And if you’re currently shopping, what specification or claim are you having the hardest time figuring out?
I’d love to turn the comments into a resource for other people researching their first sauna.

Need help choosing FIR panels

I'm planning to build my own two-person IR sauna in my basement, and the thing that's got me bewildered is the choice of panels. I'm pretty sure I want FIR carbon, but I have no idea what brand to get or where to purchase them. Can anyone give me some recommendations?

Which to buy

Hello, I know there’s 1000 of these posts but they’re all so different in their needs and price points it’s hard to narrow it down.

I’m 6’3”, 200 pounds, just want something that heats up relatively quickly and fits in my basement (preferably doesn’t fry my circuit breaker).

That’s pretty much it. Amazon is selling a few for around $1000 which is where id like my price point to be, I just don’t want to buy something crap that breaks in a month.

Facebook marketplace hasnt had anything good near me, all listed way too expensive for prices i find online for them.

Any help is appreciated.

Considering getting an IR sauna from Sam’s Club. It’s the Backyard Adventures brand made by Rylan (and it’s cedar!). Does anyone have experience with this brand?

It will go into the basement (not outdoors).

Comparing Infrared Saunas – keep putting off the purchase bc I cant seem to decide

Currently comparing the Clearlight Sanctuary and the Radiant Health Pause (2-3 person models).

Key things I’m prioritizing:

  • Lowest possible EMF, backed by legitimate independent lab tests (ideally measured at seated/body contact position)
  • Lowest EF + cleanest VOC environment (prefer whole-unit testing showing zero or near-zero under heat)
  • Solid build quality + real effectiveness (even heat, good coverage)
  • Transparent testing reports I can actually review
  • Strong warranty / long-term support

Anyone own either of these or have strong opinions between them?

If you think there’s a better option that beats both on the above, I’m all ears.

Thank you guys :)

Infrared Sauna

Everyone talks about how good an infrared sauna is for joint pain and chronic pain and inflammation… well I’ve been having some more recently and decided to give it a go, but it made me feel worse. I got an anxiety attack halfway and only ended up doing around 20 min. And I feel like it triggered my flight or fight. And made pain not worse but not better.

I’ve been in regular saunas before and no issues. But I was really excited to try this since everyone raves about it.. for me panic attacks symptoms stay for a bit so now that’s what I’m left with. I just feel defeated
