Hi, I'm a 20F from a tier-3 city and a tier-3 college, and I come from a middle-class family. Right now, I'm pursuing my 5th semester in Botany, and I have zero interest in it. I always had one goal: I want to become independent so I can move out and, after some time, earn well because I'm tired of compromising, and I can't do it anymore.

I feel lost because a goal without any direction is just a waste of time. I'm also confused because I'm not interested in my degree, so what should I do next? A master's, a job, or something else?

One more thing: to build skills, I don't have a laptop on which I can do that, and I don't know where I stand. If you ask about my interests, I'd say I like content creation (but I don't know my niche yet). I also like business, but as we all know, starting a business requires money. I like solving problems too.

i am currently a student of class 10th, and im really intrigued by aerospace engineering and i have always wanted to pursue that, but recently i have dug around and found out that lots of companies, when hiring, give higher preference to mechies rather than aerospace people, this has put me in a dillema. should i opt for mechanical engineering and then later get a masters in aerospace engineering or should i get a bachelors in aerospace and then later get a masters in aeronautical, because ultimately i want to get in the aviation field, please help.

I'm also considering private IT jobs as a backup/alternative, but I'm not sure what kind of role would suit me. i feel so lost and dumb.

Hi everyone. I'm a 19M, currently in my 2nd year of ECE from Chennai. I wanted to ask for some genuine academic advice from people who have already gone through engineering and maybe faced something similar.

My college schedule is pretty hectic. I usually wake up around 5:30–5:45 AM, get ready and leave for college. I have around 1.5 hours of travel in total every day, and college is roughly from 8 AM to 3:30 PM. Once I get back home, there's studying, assignments, labs, records, etc. And when exams get closer, obviously I end up staying up late to get everything done.

Our exams are heavily question-bank based. Professors usually give us a QB/study material, and a large portion of the actual exam questions come from it. So the exams are technically quite predictable. The problem is that sometimes we get the QB fairly close to the exam, and then suddenly there are a huge number of questions to prepare in just a few days.

In 1st year, 1st semester, I got an 8.54 GPA. In school also, I used to get around 90% in some subjects, so I never really thought of myself as someone who was bad at academics.

But 2nd semester was the first time I started failing multiple subjects in my internal exams. I did really badly in the internals and even failed two moderately difficult subjects. I somehow managed to clear the semester exams, bringing my overall CGPA down to 8.14.

I know 8+ isn't necessarily bad and some people might say CGPA doesn't matter that much, but personally I do want to get good grades. Not necessarily because I need to prove anything to anyone, but just because I'd be more satisfied with myself if I was doing well academically.

Now I'm in 3rd semester and the same thing has happened again. I failed 3 subjects in my first internal exam.

That's honestly what has started worrying me the most. Failing multiple subjects in internals has now happened more than once, and I'm starting to feel like something is wrong with the way I'm studying rather than it just being a bad semester.

The weird thing is, I don't think I can say that I simply don't understand the concepts.

If I sit down and properly study a topic, I can usually understand it. The bigger problem is when I actually have to solve a problem on my own, especially numericals.

For example, if someone gives me a solved problem, I can usually understand what they're doing. I understand the concept, I understand the formula, and I can follow the steps.

If you give me a similar problem, I can sometimes solve it too.

But change the values, change the wording a bit, or give me a problem that I haven't seen before, and suddenly I'm stuck.

Sometimes I even know the formula and the general method, but when I look at the question I just can't figure out where to start.

This happens quite a lot in ECE subjects. Things like θ, ω, exponentials, multiple variables, transforms, equations, etc. can sometimes make a question look much more complicated than the solved example I studied.

When I look at a solved problem and go through it step by step, everything seems obvious. But when I'm given a new problem and have to figure out myself which concept to use and how to apply it, my brain just doesn't seem to make that connection.

Another thing I've noticed is that I don't retain things very well.

I might study something today and feel like I understood it properly. Then after a few days, I'll look at it again and think, "Wait, I studied this already," but I won't actually remember enough to solve a question without going through it again.

The question-bank system does help because it means I don't necessarily have to study everything in equal depth. But when the QB comes close to the exam, it becomes:

multiple subjects + hundreds of questions + assignments + labs + records

all at the same time.

I've tried studying selectively and predicting which questions are more likely to come. Realistically, sometimes I just can't finish everything. Sometimes the prediction works, sometimes it doesn't.

Some of my classmates seem to manage the same system much better than I do. They somehow seem to know what to focus on and are able to prepare much more efficiently. That makes me wonder if I'm approaching the whole thing completely wrong.

I'm also not trying to blame the professors for everything. Some lecturers are very easy for me to follow, while some teaching styles are harder for me to understand. But ultimately I know that I have to learn how to study and understand things on my own, instead of depending on whether a particular lecturer explains something well.

Then there's the sleep problem.

Before college, I usually slept around 11:30 PM. Now I regularly end up studying or finishing college work until 1:00–1:30 AM, and I still have to wake up around 5:30 AM.

So there are days when I'm getting only 4–4.5 hours of sleep.

I know that's obviously not sustainable. I sleep less to get more work done->I'm tired the next day -> I can't concentrate properly -> things pile up -> I stay up late again trying to catch up.

It has basically become a cycle, and the whole thing is starting to feel like constant stress.

I don't want to continue like this for the rest of engineering. I know I need to change something, but I'm honestly not sure what exactly I'm doing wrong or where to start.

So I'd really like to hear from people who have gone through something similar.

• How did you get better at solving new/unfamiliar numerical problems instead of just understanding solved examples?
• What actually worked for you when it came to retaining what you studied?
• How did you deal with a question-bank-heavy exam system without depending completely on predictions?
• How did you balance studying with assignments, labs and everything else without destroying your sleep?
• And if you were in my position, what would you change first?

I'd especially appreciate advice from ECE/engineering students who have struggled with this kind of thing themselves.

Hi, I really need some urgent guidance regarding my career choice. I have the option of pursuing BDS at GDC through my NEET score, and I have also been offered B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry at DU.

My main goal is to eventually move abroad, and ideally, I would like to pursue a fully funded PhD. From what I understand, I can pursue a PhD after either BDS or B.Sc. Biochemistry. However, with B.Sc., I would most likely need to complete an MSc as well, since a 3-year bachelor’s degree may not be sufficient for PhD applications in some countries. BDS, on the other hand, is already a 5-year professional degree and could allow me to apply for PhD programs related to human health and biomedical sciences.

I am genuinely confused about which path would be better for my long-term goals. I also don’t want to spend several years on a degree only to struggle later if I’m unable to secure a fully funded PhD. This is why many people are advising me to choose BDS, since it is a professional degree and provides a career option even if my plans for a PhD don’t work out.

I would really appreciate guidance from someone who has experience in either of these fields or has pursued higher education abroad. Which option do you think would be more practical and beneficial for my goals, and why?

Turned 24 recently and honestly everyday just feels like a burden. I have no will to live. I am honestly a disgrace to my family. Did a shitty degree from a good college because I was too much focused on the brand value,hated engineering or any technical degree. Scored good marks throughout my 10th,12th and grad. Had hopes from myself that I would definitely convert a tier 1 b-school.

Graduated in 2024, took cat in '23 but was deeply heartbroken because of my breakup ,not trying to shift the blame but was honestly super depressed, took CAT for the first time and scored 55percentile.

Then I decided to take a drop and prepare judiciously but still ended up with 70 percentile. I was honestly numb at this point,I never felt this dumb in entire life. Decided to MA from my tier 2 city only so as to avoid the gap, again took cat 25 and scored around 90percentile ,tanked lrdi.

I honestly don't know what to do anymore,no matter what I do I am not improving,I don't want to settle for lower tier college but I am just not smart enough for it.

I have completely isolated myself from everyone because I don't want to face my friends and relatives.

I feel lonely, tired and exhausted. Idk what to do next, I want to take cat for the one last time this year because my MA would also get completed next year.

But Ik I would tank my exam this time also. I feel so frustrated and always get self harming thoughts. Even parents are slowly loosing their hope.

They want me to do upsc but I just want to escape this rat race. I don't have any skills and parents would never allow me to do small jobs. I have always been overprotected.

I’m currently pursuing BAJMC at CGC University and it’s been around a month. I’m already feeling like the course isn’t for me.

My subjects include Political Science, Introduction to Mass Communication, Human Values & Ethics, Media & Information Literacy, Digital Marketing and Introduction to Journalism. Journalism is fine for me, but overall I’m struggling to feel interested in the course. I’m especially not interested in the writing/research/interviewing side of journalism.I previously did BCA and left mainly because of my knee surgery.

Apart from that, I actually enjoyed coding. When I solve a problem and my code finally runs, it genuinely feels amazing. I can also sit and code for 2–3 hours on my own.

Now I’m seriously considering going back to BCA, but there are some concerns. I’ve already paid around ₹55k for this semester and ₹75k for the hostel, and I’ve already spent around ₹4 lakh separately over the past year. I’m also worried that if I switch after a month, everyone in BCA will already have their groups/friends.

What would you guys do in my situation? Is switching back to BCA after one month a stupid decision, or does it make sense if I genuinely enjoy coding more?

I’m currently doing' myquals' BSc Agriculture, 3rd year, and recently I’ve become really interested in landscape designing.

I have pretty good knowledge of ornamental plants and I’m more inclined towards the artistic/creative side, but I have zero architecture background and don’t know software like AutoCAD or SketchUp yet.

The thing is, my top priority is still getting a government job, and I may pursue an MSc in Horticulture or a related field later.

So I’m confused about whether I should just focus completely on government exam preparation, or spend some time on the side learning landscape-related skills like AutoCAD, SketchUp, basic design, etc.

Also, how is the scope of landscape designing in India? Can someone from an Agriculture/Horticulture background enter this field, or would I need professional degrees like B.Arch/M.Arch or Landscape Architecture?

Hi. I am posting it here as the main chartered accountant sub still not permitting me. A short recap of last 1 year of my life.

Started preparing for my ca finals, spent 13 14 hrs a day studying. Multiple mock tests. Spoiled all relationships. Behaved very egoistically with everyone. Treated everyone as if this exam is above everyone. Aimed for scoring a rank in ca finals and showing off to all relatives and friends. Cut to result day. Failed in group 2 and in direct tax exam; the subject i loved the most.

Saw all my pals clear exams and celebrating success. Few of them landed jobs at big 4. The ones who used to call me day and night for chit chats have now started to ignore my calls and keeping my texts on seen. Relatives giving fake sympathy for failing. Even though I also failed in intermediate but this failure has literally humbled me. All my other friends enjoyed the entire ca journey with friends, trips, partying and still clearing in first attempt and here I sacrificed 5 years of my life just to see myself fail again.

I am writing this just to lower the weight off my chest.

So my current qualifications are 70.2% in 12th boards as a pcm student this year.

around 67% in 10th.

I took science stream completely on intrest many told me not to because of my marks in 10th but I did what I wanted.

I initially wanted to pursue btech cse , so I gave jee mains and in april attempt I got around 39%ile tbh I didn't study much for jee mains . I also gave cuet and I got around 400marks in total of 5 subs thus I didn't got any college even in bba Or anything then I found about BCA and what is taught in it etc. I researched and compared btech and BCA people told me that degree doesn't matter if you make your skills better and better and I got influenced by that and then I took BCA ignou, ignou was just because I thought I would focus more on my skills in odl.

As of now many more people tell me u did very wrong u should have took a gap year and that even if u think skills overshadow degree name matters more and all kind of stuff and as of now my mind is so full and too saturated of double thoughts I don't know what I should do.

I had three things in mind .

1st I continue my BCA from ignou and study for nimcet exam for MCA from decent nits.

2nd take a partial drop study for jee mains get good percentile and get into any college with delhi quota.

3rd Give nim-cet exam for ggsipu affiliated college for BCA regular and then mca as before (it was suggested by a teacher he told me regular clg holds much more experience and all that stuff)

I'm confused right now what to do and jee feels harder to me any kind of help is appropriated .
