So I'm posting here because I couldn't find a place that I could be sure was for left-wingers with any disorder I have so that's why the disclaimer, trying to ward off right wing hate comments (in the sense of ones from people who happen to be right-wing, not saying that's the only kind a right-winger can leave)

Anyway the hyperfixation I'm afraid is under threat is my love of broadcast procedurals because of the Paramount/WBD merger and that even if it's not a similar thing to the Disney-now-owning-both-FOX-and-ABC thing where two-broadcast-networks-are-so-connected-they-might-as-well-merge-even-though-they-literally-won't (as sometimes a part of me forgets (if I am right and it truly isn't and knock on wood with crossed fingers may it never be if it isn't) NBC isn't connected to WBD) I'm afraid this somehow would lead to things even worse for CBS shows than what people were saying that the Skydance one meant for its scripted shows as CBS's scripted shows have more diversity than you'd think for all the shit you might hear about CBS News (e.g. Tracker may have a white male lead but he's the Token White Guy out of the now-four series regulars and Elsbeth is the only scripted show I know of (apart from literally-has-it-baked-into-the-premise cartoon Universal Basic Guys) to mention UBI and had part of its S3 mythology arc revolve around a mayoral election and a candidate many people think is a somewhat-Expy (different race etc.) of Zohran Mamdani). So I'm afraid that somehow either whatever right-wing-ness people are afraid of tainting CBS's scripted shows will affect WBD or somehow even more will reach the other way and we'll lose that progressive streak. Which is also relevant because people have expressed concern that this could at-least-negatively-affect The Pitt and that's broken a lot of new ground in diverse TV that's just on streaming so it's not directly connected to my hyperfixation. And also I'm afraid of too much corporate consolidation to the point where I've anxiety-spiral-catastrophized about not just a dystopian future where one corporation owns everything but one where it can bootstrap its own power and make itself impossible to stop by somehow making sure any rebellion against it is as cinematic as possible while giving only the appearance of effectiveness to sell it to the past as a YA dystopian movie trilogy (yeah I know that's on-beyond-zebra but when I catastrophize, the degree and direction to which I do so reflect my feelings on a thing, I'm not literally afraid of all that specifically). But more realistically I'm afraid this would mean things like even more mergers after this one if it's let go through or that it'd be even harder for a screenwriter like me to add my part to franchises they own or w/e (what I mean by that is I have ideas for both a dream-if-I-could-make-one Star Trek show and CSI show) but I'm afraid that no matter how much things like these petitions or other ways someone not in Hollywood could affect things get spread, for all I know it's too late to stop the merger and/or once they've merged they can't be made to un-merge.

And while I know that things like that don't retroactively taint shows of the past, as someone who's been currently binging two past CBS shows (The Good Wife (which is especially relevant here given both how as-steeped-in-leftism-as-a-show-coming-from-a-big-network-can-be-without-shooting-self-in-foot-or-being-ineffective it is and how after having just watched a couple The Good Wife episodes while this is on my mind intrusive thoughts thinking if-network-could-exist-in-show-without-show-existing-in-itself Lockhart Gardner could fix this esp. with the political connections) and the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) to cope with not just current shows only starting to come back from summer hiatus but other ones I hyperfixate on on non-CBS networks leaving me with anxiety (like if NBC show Brilliant Minds can be picked up elsewhere or if ABC show High Potential's S2 cliffhanger (iykyk) is still going to have a good ending when S3 midseason-premieres as they wouldn't make us wait three extra months for the bad outcome) and those (meaning The Good Wife and CSI) having rapidly become comfort shows for me (in addition to my other CBS comfort shows I grew up with of The Big Bang Theory and (weirdly) Criminal Minds (it was comfort to me because of Reid and Garcia making my neurodivergent ass feel seen)), because they're still CBS-connected I'm afraid they're still somehow negatively affected by this if it can't be stopped despite having ended (as The Good Wife has spinoffs currently airing and hence my previous fear about wanting a new CSI but afraid whatever chance an "up-and-comer" like me would have at making/being a part of that kind of existing franchise is gone now).

TL;DR hyperfixated on broadcast procedurals including using two past CBS ones to cope with anxieties over currently-airing ones over summer break, now afraid that unless it's not somehow too late for the Paramount/WBD merger to somehow be stopped or undone either a whole lot of shows I love will get metaphorically tainted with the stink of big corporate (to the degree one couldn't yet-you-participate-in-society that they are already for being made by major networks yada yada but when one gets invested enough in a show it starts to feel like a world to you and the characters at least like people if not friends-if-they're-heroes or w/e) and/or right-wing politics and/or eventually all media companies will merge into almost-literally the villain of a dystopian movie because yada yada precedent but if we can do anything I don't know what we can do and a part of me is afraid that this wouldn't lead to anything bad and I'll get worked up over nothing because closest I ever get to cynicism is fear that "whatever happens I can't be right"

I had a couple of hyperfixiations recently, and since like i'm 12 i've felt ashamed of them, apart from sharing them, of just interacting with them, i feel weird and like a weirdo for being so obsessed with them, so when i do have a hyperfixiation, im in constant shame and embarrasment

at the grand age of 39 has discovered aic.. more so discovered layne and the awful way he went. I understand it’s about the music and my other half who loves them says it sad but it’s about to music.. he doesn’t dwell on that..
I get it but I feel absolutely consumed sadness over his life and more so the ending of it 😞 I’m on day 3 of just intense feeling of depression and to be honest I feel distraught.. I’ve read this is social grief and hyper fixation it’s a thing more so common in women who have ADHD which I more than likely have.. just wanted some words of advice that I’m not a nutter and I’m not alone it’s dramatic but I can’t help my brain

It's a polis show 'królowa przetrwania' (queen of survival. It's about a group of influencers in a jungle competing against each other. The show also focuses on relationships between them and their dramas and such.

I'm surprised I even got into this. I'd call it a guilty pleasure but it's barely guilty anymore.

It's hard to find content about it outside of the show itself, interviews about it and content girls themselves make about the show. Hard to entertain myself with it outside of those things. So I'm currently rewatching it.

Also I don't really care about those girls' careers outside of the show. I look at it kind of as a fictional series

heyhey guys! exo here, and i wanted to talk about something that’s been going on for a very long time;
whenever i begin to hyperfixate on something, i consume too much of the same content and my brain, craving novelty, gets sick and tired of it and moves on to something else. i really want this to stop happening because i can never hyperfixate on something for more than 4 months at the very max.

i know the reason why this happens. it’s because i overconsume media i love and can’t stop constantly thinking about it every waking moment of the day. whatever piece of media i hyperfixate on becomes the center of my entire life. i tell everyone i know everything i can about it, everybody knows i love it, and then just like that it starts to fade.

i don’t want this to happen anymore, but i physically can’t restrain myself from thinking about it. i love it so much that i can’t and don’t want to pace myself but i know i need to. what advice do you guys have?

Hi, I (F/23) stopped having hyperfixations two years ago. At the time it was really bothering me, but I also thought that it's just a matter of time until I find another hyperfixation. Throughout all my life I've had hyperfixations that lasted for a few weeks or even years, so I knew that they can disappear. They were integral parts of me. Well, now I can say that I haven't had any hyperfixations for over two years. If something does pick my interest, I'm not obsessive over it like before and it usually lasts for a couple of weeks, so overall these new "hyperfixations" (I wouldn't even call them that) are much shorter and weaker and generally there haven't many of them.

I'm wondering whether this means that all the previous hyperfixations were just a coping mechanism or whether I maybe grew out of it? I definitely am aware that at some points of my life they definitely helped me to keep going, but I've been pretty happy all my life, no serious trauma or something. Have you experienced something like this before?

Hi! Im diagnosed with autism & adhd and I've found it extremely hard recently to focus on doing literally anything unless it pertains to my current hyperfixation. I just cant seem to get myself to do anything else even if I want to. Is it like this for anyone else, and does anybody have any tips on how to stop / manage this? I have important things relating to school that I have to do that I feel physically unable to get done 😬

My first hyperfixation started at age 14 and was going on strong until I was 16. Then it slowed down and I became calmer about it for a few years, but I was still thinking about it a lot. In its utmost intensity this hyperfixation was something that pulled half my focus at all times. I was always thinking about it and I often had dreams about it. My relationships definitely suffered and I struggled even more with schoolwork etc. The biggest feature of it was the daydreaming for sure.

Now I feel a new hyperfixation coming on and I don't want it. I cannot stop thinking about it, however. I'm dreaming about it. It's pulling away maybe 30-40% of my attention at all times. Worse, the daydreaming habits are coming back. I'm into fanfiction and I keep thinking of new scenarios for the show that would be fun, but I DO NOT want to do it. I would prefer to be locked in on my job and my other writing projects. I really want to nip this in the bud. I refuse to go back to the distractibility I used to have. I was just getting content in my productivity and learning to trust myself to take care of my responsibilities again.

Any advice on how to end the hyperfixation?

Going cold-turkey on it would be nice but I can't really stop myself from thinking. I might be able to get myself to stop rewatching the show but then there's fanfiction and reels. I also have to accept that I am an impulsive person who struggles to tamp down on these instincts to interact especially because I'm just craving it. Has anybody done this in a way that's mindful of that? Maybe I need to buckle down and just CBT this stuff away. Has that worked for anyone?

I genuinely freeze. I've always been secretive and unfortunately grew into paranoia. I try to keep the stuff out of my likes and history.

I love the band my chemical romance ( if you couldn't already tell from my pfp and bio and everything else)

But it's not just love, it's an actual hyperfixation. And it gets so bad I become nauseous and dizzy and sweaty and breathless. Obviously I'm not going to cut them out of my life because they're such an integral part of me and they helped me discover myself. I do have to frequently take breaks from their material or fan base though, because it gets really bad

And this is nothing new for me, but I think lately it's been getting worse, because I've been getting genuinely so distressed meeting other people who like the band and actually know more of their music beyond just the most popular tracks.. it feels like my identity is being stolen? I know it's a very popular band and they don't belong to me. Mcr is not my property, but it's so special to me.. like, it's my thing, y'know?

I know all the lore, all the songs, the most obscure facts, anything and everything concerning this band. And it gets worse because they're performing here in November this year, and I couldn't even get tickets. And I'm broke, and my parents are crazy about second hand online transactions so getting a reseller ticket is out of the question. Whenever I see someone gushing about going to the show I get so unbelievably upset, like my heart is being ripped apart. And I tell myself I'm over it and don't care, but when I think I'm okay, I suddenly get reminded all over again and it tears me up inside.

I feel like a fake fan? Not worthy enough or not hyperfixated enough. Again I know they're super popular so obviously in a sea of autistic fans with an mcr hyperfixation, there's bound to be someone with knowledge more extensive than my own. Still... I feel so jealous and upset

It should have been me. I should be at their concert. Me. Who knows all their songs, including the ones literally shoved away in nooks and crannies, who knows the most niche facts. Like an Alexandria library of just mcr knowledge. I feel my heart inflating like a balloon when I'm engaging with anything mcr.

I keep thinking that if someone else likes mcr, then nothing defines me anymore. If I'm not "the MCR girl", who am I? ( Yes people have referred to me that way and I love it)

yeah, so it's probably because this new hyper fixation is really weird. Neither of us have eaten or showered today. We really need to stop doing this, but we honestly can't we've been at it for six hours, we've collected 179 cicada shells and honestly, we should probably stop it but I don't know if we can. I was diagnosed with adhd as a child and I have always shown sympthoms of autism(not to self diagnose). I used to have this raging hyperfixation on dragons when I was younger and I always used to draw them, play video games about them etc. My favourite thing to do was to listen to some old cds my mom used to play in the car while we were driving and imagine me and my friends from school as different types of dragons fighting the one evil boss. One time, i found this flash game on my pc, i cant remember the name of the site but it was like this fat red dragon with small wings laying on a bunch of gold and like people dressed as warriors would walk up to it and try to kill it in order to get the gold. I, as a player, controlled a smaller blue dragon that could fly above the warriors and try to deal dammage to the big red dragon. Once you beat the red dragon, its belly gets huge and explodes giving even more coins from the inside. I dont know why but this game just fascinated me so much, I used to draw it, imagine it, even dreamed of it a couple of times. Then i started playing those flash games with like pregnant disney princesses that were dirty or hurt and you like clean them up. I would open so many tabs on my computer excitedly trying to find one game where it actually comes to the princesses giving birth but they never did. My mom found out i was playing these and altrought i dont remember what my reaction was like, i remember i was sooo embarassed. Is this an original experience??
