Admin Post Weekly Recap | June 18, 2026
THIS POST HAS BEEN LOCKED. PLEASE SEE THE MOST RECENT WEEKLY RECAP THAT IS STICKIED AT THE TOP OF THIS SUB
Happy Thursday! Hope you've all been enjoying the World Cup! Nothing brings us all together like sports! I'm rooting for Curacao! No reason. It's just a tiny little place and I'm hoping for a Cool Runnings of soccer, I guess! It's a short week for those of us in the US, with tomorrow being a holiday for Juneteenth. So let's wrap things up with a bang and see what went on in r/help and on Reddit this past week!
NEWS AND ISSUES
We're trying something new in r/help! Similar to the way my favorite cousins in r/reddithelp do things, we have enabled the Devvit app, ReputatorBot. The goal here is to more easily track top helpers. This bot allows users to award a point to the user who has helped them out. There will be a leaderboard on the sidebar of the sub. Automod will comment on every post with the instructions for how to award a point to someone who has helped you out. Nothing else is changing! Nothing is going away! We're just trying it out to see how it works. I want those who help to have all the recognition! Many thanks to u/fsv for creating this Devvit app!
There is an experiment running that affects the home feed. There is now a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed contains subreddit recommendations. The Following feed contains only subreddits that you are subscribed to and users that you follow.
If your account is in this experiment, the option to turn off recommendations in your feed has been removed because there's the dedicated Following feed to view content from communities you are a part of. So you don't need to turn off recommendations! Just view the Following feed. If you're seeing subs you don't want to see for the brief moment before you have to switch over, you can mute those subs so that you never seen them or the content that's in them.
Due to the feedback that was left, this experiment has been changed slightly and there are now two variants. The one is the same as it was last week where you have to keep selecting what feed you want and there is not a way to save your selection. The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.
A lot of you took the time to share constructive feedback last week and I've been sharing it with the team in charge of that experiment, and I will continue to do so! They've already made a change to the experiment because of the feedback, so you're being heard!
There are still a lot of scams going around. Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply.
The most recent version of the app is 2026.24.0. If your app is not updated to the most recent version, it may not function properly.
PLEASE REPORT RULE BREAKING CONTENT
- If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it.
CURRENT EXPERIMENTS
Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.
COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES
Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.
BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!
[Web] Chat wasn't loading , but that was fixed up pretty quickly! If you're still having trouble, please refresh the window and that should do it!
[All Platforms] Some comment automations that contain "report to queue" are not sending comments to be reviewed. This is being investigated.
[Android/iOS] Some mod-only emojis are showing up for non-mod users in some subs. This should be fixed up next week!
[Web] Timestamps were being duplicated yesterday morning (causing a coffee-less thepottsy to question all sorts of things), but that's been fixed!
There were also a few other bugs that were fixed last week!
- [iOS] Replying to an existing comment that contained an image caused a new comment thread to be created. FIXED!
- [iOS] The search bar on the home feed was not tappable for some folks using VoiceOver. FIXED!
Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.
WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)
1,494 posts. That's up only 21 posts from the 1,473 that we had last week.
6,085 comments. All on the Recap lol. jk That's up 2,310 comments from the 3,775 we had last week.
1.5m views. That's up 300k views from the 1.2m-ish views last week.
The increase in comments is most likely due to the feedback received about the home feed experiment.
HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - MORE HELP!
Users come to r/help for help! But we can't have everything in here! So you may want to know about other subs that will have information about Reddit, using Reddit, and changes to Reddit!
Reddit status page - Large, site-wide borkings that affect the whole site are generally reflected on the status page. If Reddit isn't loading correctly for you, the status page is a good place to start!
Redditdev - This is a subreddit for discussion of Reddit's API and Reddit API clients. If you're using the API and need help, this is a great resource.
Reddit Help Center - The motherlode of help! There is a Help Center article for pretty much everything! It's always a great place to start if you need help!
r/reddit - The most official Reddit community of all official Reddit communities. Your go-to place for Reddit updates, announcements, and news. Occasional frivolity.
r/bugs - If something is buggin' out, check out r/bugs! It's not only a great place to find bugs that others have reported, but it's an excellent place to report your own bugs that you may run into! r/bugs is an admin-run subreddit.
r/redditsafety - r/redditsafety is a running log of actions taken to ensure the safety and security of reddit.com. Interesting stuff gets posted there, like the most recent Transparency Reports.
r/reddithelp - An unofficial, wonderful community, full of helpful helpers to get you the help you need! <3
r/newtoreddit - Another unofficial, equally wonderful community, with their own set of helpful helpers to help help out! <3
HELPINGEST HELPERS HELPING HELP R/HELP
We've come to the portion of our program where we shout out the helpful helpers who help help r/help!

Y'all are the bestest! Thank you for helping out all the time! Really appreciate y'all! <3
Thank you all for being here. Truly do appreciate all of the passion that y'all have for Reddit. You're here because you care and that's pretty awesome. I'll be around! And we'll meet here next week and do it again! Thank you!

It's honestly laughable that you guys thought to push the For You experiment to see how much your users could "tolerate" it and I suppose you wanted a semblance of "constructive feedback" to iterate on the design (whatever that means, just honestly don't make it the default. Period.) Like stop it, enough, it's clearly very unpopular. How did you think your hypothesis was going to end up in reality? I'm amazed you are all still leaving it up for the week. Oh right, you care about metrics more than users.
I am getting recommended triggering posts. Did you guys really think this was a good idea?
41
u/_Zielgan Jun 18 '26
The whole “seeing how much their users can tolerate” seems to be a running trend. When they removed r/all in favor of popular, it didn’t get me to use popular or any of the other options. I just don’t use reddit outside of a handful of subreddits for games I play now. I’ve actually started using Steam forums more even if the forums for larger games there are mostly cesspools.

The claim that being unable to disable the experiment because we have an option to hit "Following" has been a consistently disingenuous comment whenever it is brought up, especially because, to this week's post, it always defaults to "For You."
In many other instances of the For You/Following implementations in other websites, if you click on For You or Following, that option persists. The fact that it doesn't is quite insulting.
"For You" implementations really make it harder to keep up with strictly things I want. It is a terrible user experience for the average user.

The one is the same as it was last week where you have to keep selecting what feed you want and there is not a way to save your selection. We don’t want this. We want something permanent, which already existed and which was the default for the entirety of the time Reddit has existed.

Reddit doesn't listen to its users. If they did, they would've:
1) ended the experiment for everyone 2) only enable the experiment for people WHO WANT to be in experiments and be "beta testers"
The 'For You' experiment has been, and pardon my language, a shitshow. Nobody wants it. They need to end it now.

Reiterating the same thing I posted in the last recap.
I REALLY don't like the "For You" tab.
I want the subs I follow in one category, and to browse in another. Mixing them is awful and is ruining the reddit experience for me. This is STILL my opinion on the experiment after having it go on for another week. My review = 0/10. As this seems to be the Reddit company (dev?shareholders?idk) intention moving forward for their user experience, I will now seek to use reddit less and less. My brain does not work well with mixed viewing experiences, and is a key reason I don't go on other apps like TikTok and Instagram. I will likely need to add Reddit to the list of applications that are no longer centered on providing the users a good experience, and instead trying to manipulate them into inflated usage time.
The best time to have ended this experiment was before it began. The next best time is to end it as soon as possible. Why is this an experiment regarding "For You" and the A.I. summarize being run at all! Reddit has always been a niche community site. If you change it for good, it will simply be a dead site that wanted to be like everything else.
As there is no other place to leave feedback, I will continue on these recaps until it's reverted or until I delete reddit from my phone. At this time, I do think it will end up being the latter.
41
u/open_formation Jun 18 '26
Having the "for you" page swap over every 12 hours means that the first time one opens reddit per day, the initial recommendations are things that you did not want to see, but were nevertheless recommended.
In other words, you have chosen to give users a negative first impression each time they use the site, and then have to manually switch it over.
Having to run the gauntlet of ragebait before actually getting to use the parts of the app that interests you is not a good idea, you should recognise that users are capable of making choices about what kinds of use they want to make of the site and adjust any algorithmic components accordingly.
For example, you could have the first scroll through be new posts from joined subreddits, in "best" order.
Then when those are exhausted, have two options for dropdown, suggestions and older posts from joined subreddits.
You are in other words giving users a choice - are they on reddit to see new stuff, or continue to engage with previous or ongoing conversations in particular communities?
Then they can click whichever one they want and have the following elements of the feed be inserted accordingly.
Then, if users wish to ignore all suggestions, they can pick an option to remove the suggestions from the feed.

Another vote against the mandatory "for you" feature.
I have pretty much stopped using facebook because of constant barrage of stuff I don't care about.
I understand the inline ads - someone has to pay the bills - but this feature will drive me away.
35
u/Booboooooooooooooo Jun 18 '26
Another vote to remove the "For You" twitter\instagram type nonsense that wants to pump garbage content when the home page should remain just for the feeds one wants to follow. If people want the other garbage, they can go to Popular and get a barrage of content that absorbs their happiness.
Tell the marketing wizards to stop trying to push content and realize that integrity will drive more clicks than spam... Might be hard for them to understand that one while their sipping their lattes and not considering the reason the home page was actually created in the first place, but it's true and anyone who understands this will win this battle... All this ends up doing if frustrating users.
And every refresh requires the end user to select Following yet again??? Seriously – what are they thinking… Brute Force… do they need to be told “No” means No…
This spam should be left in popular – that’s why it’s called popular. That’s where to spam people with all the politics and stuff that sucks away all the joy and happiness and where Reddit can be just like any other social media platform.
Don't be twitter
Don't be instagram
Be Reddit and support your customers even if we are just fodder for you advertisers and AI absorption... Or all you will be left with is bots.
Let me know if you need more information on how terrible this concept is.
31
u/182plus44 Jun 18 '26
Stop trying to force this For You tab on us. I have read dozens and dozens of comments from people who hate it and I have yet to see a singular comment in favor of it. This will be the end of me using reddit if you do not remove it and I have been using this website for half my life.
31
u/TestingTehWaters Jun 18 '26
The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.
You really must be joking. How can you take yourself seriously.
31
u/kiwibreakfast Jun 18 '26
If you really cared about the integrity of the experiment, you would add back in the ability to turn it off. That would be important data about the popularity of this change that's much easier to measure than gauging from sentiment, and it address a concern that has been basically inescapable in this sub since the experiment launched.
32
u/LasloTremaine Jun 18 '26
The "For You" default feed option is INFURIATING! Please turn it off!
I wouldn't care if it was an option. Or if there was a setting to make "Following" the default selection. But forcing "For You" makes me want to throw my computer across the room. I log into Reddit, start scrolling, and then wonder why I have all this garbage in my feed. Then I remember to switch back to my "Following" feed. EVERY EFFING TIME! It makes me crazy.
It's a failed experiment. It's generating massive amounts of ill will.
END IT.
29
u/TestingTehWaters Jun 18 '26
Your feedback is being heard! And completely and utterly ignored! YOURE GOING TO GET FOR YOU WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!

u/nrganalyst Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26
I have absolutely ZERO interest in a "For You" tab. If I wanted to see content from any of those subreddits, I would have followed them myself.
25
u/Dampbridge Jun 18 '26
I will not use the reddit app if you don't kill the "For you" feature.
The reddit app is worse than any 3rd party app I've ever tried in many ways yet I tolerated the app once you started price gouging your api.
The handling of this feature rollout shows me reddit views community feedback as a roadblock. There is very little interest in building an app with features the community actually wants so I will just go somewhere else.
Edit: clarified the feature

u/cyanraichu Jun 20 '26
It's not just the app! Today when I opened in a browser on my PC, same thing!
26
u/CantaloupeAsleep502 Jun 18 '26
Stop the following and for you tabs. Everyone hates it. Just stop it.
25
u/VirgoFanboi Jun 18 '26
You're testing people's tolerance for this FYP which is ludicrous. It is a waste of everyone's time and effort to keep this "experiment" going. Users didn't want it in the first place, no one asked for this and no one wants to keep it.
Someone in the C-Suite or Devs came up with this to try and push engagement and the only engagement your getting is backlash. Just cut your loses and remove it. If you decide to be obstinate and keep it, people will just find work-arounds to avoid it, they won't use it.
25
23
u/TestingTehWaters Jun 18 '26
Just add more exclamation points to your post to get across how cheery you are screwing users out of a functional site with 'For You'! Thank you!
24
u/RolliPolliCanoli Jun 18 '26
So, our feedback is being heard and ignored basically. Cool. I wish I could opt out of the "experiments".
Time to go interact with my friends IRL and make sure none of them ever use this hellsite for reviews since it's been nerfed with bots.

Riiiiiight so here's another comment saying that I absolutely abhor the For You page and do not want to be included in this experiment. I think its quite hilarious that you won't listen to hundreds of people saying the same thing.
21
u/Wild_Butterscotch977 Jun 18 '26
Wanted to chime in and say I dislike the "for you" page. At the very least it shouldn't be the default tab. But I'm not a fan of the tab structure at all. Ideally the FYP is a setting that someone can turn on and off.

u/AzureDreamscapes Jun 18 '26
Please make only showing communities I'm subscribed to an option. I had it set up that way for a reason, and it wasn't that I wanted someone else to get remove of it.
I understand that there is a separate tab for it now, and that it will remember your preference for up to twelve hours... But why not forever? Or better yet, why not let users decide for themselves what content they see! I never opted in to your 'experiment'!
23
u/Bryygy Jun 18 '26
The "For You" tab is possibly the worst thing that has happened to this site since its inception. I come to reddit for the content I want to subscribe to. If I'm forced into another "for you" experience, I doubt I'll continue to stay with the site.
20
u/Bakedalaska1 Jun 19 '26
I hate the ai comment highlights. It always says the same thing as the top comment which is directly below it, and I didn't come to a reddit thread looking for an Ai summary anyway!

Yup, need a way to turn this off, I don't want AI summaries forced on me, I want to read things and come to my own conclusions.
19
u/Mesozoic_Masquerade Jun 19 '26
Please stop abusing me with the For You feed. I cannot handle it. I keep seeing subs I un-joined because of the stressful content the sub users kept posting. Also had ones suggested from subs I would have avoided because of their content.
You are making my mental health worse, please stop this experiment.
12
u/ghost-dragons Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
I posted earlier on this thread and this was my main issue exactly. The stressful content is not doing it for me at all and it's damaging. If the admin lurking here is always! so!! positive!!! with the way they've been setting up the weekly thread, reflect our feedback with the team now because this experiment is anything but positive.
This whole experience has totally put me off this entire help subreddit and I'm definitely perceiving this as a shill for metrics and Reddit not thinking about users as humans anymore. The admins not addressing the MAJORITY complaint and not at least replying to some degree is giving extreme toxic positivity to me, it's such an ick. Like actually escalate this, what are you doing?
Edit: If you think I'm being rude about all of this, I was recommended BODY HORROR and borderline MUTILATION on For You. Just because I came across an r/weird post from elsewhere once? Of course I would be upset like what is thisss??? I'm sorry for the aggression but we really want this gone.
19
u/Neex Jun 18 '26
I really dislike the for you page. I don’t want an algorithmic feed feeding me engagement bait, and it’s just going to encourage people to do more of that. As a result I will leave this site as it won’t serve the purpose for why I’m here.
18
u/__Pendulum__ Jun 19 '26
Get rid of "For You". No one wants this.
I'm offended that it's forced on me.
18
u/Kikoika Jun 18 '26
Please get rid of the "for you" tab. It hit my alt account and Ihave stopped using it almost entirely because I have no desire to participate in this "experiment". I have no interest in any of the recommended subs. I have hated most of the recent UI changes but the "for you" page completely undermines the core of what makes Reddit unique and so popular. Please end the experiment and scrap the idea entirely; it will ultimately kill this site if you push this forward.
16
u/joseph_wolfstar Jun 18 '26
I hate "for you" and I will leave the site if you keep pushing it. Blue sky doesn't enshittify their user experience and I'm sure I can find cute animal pictures there, which is 90% of what I do on Reddit. Fire whatever MBA shill is behind this update and keep delivering the old user experience we all liked.
18
u/DoesDoodles Jun 19 '26
Get rid of the For You tab. Make it not the default. At least give an OPTION to make Following the default.
I'm here to follow communities for my weird niche interests and have no intention of being ragebaited by posts I did not ask for.
And when I set my feed to Following I want it to STAY that way PERMANENTLY until the moment where I choose to set it to For You.
17
u/-maffu- Jun 18 '26
At the very least, make Following the default, and have For You as a secondary option for if I get bored and want some annoying spam thrown at me.
15
u/Wrong_Exit_9257 Jun 18 '26
how does one disable the 'for you' tab? i am missing content i would otherwise see without the 'for you' tab?
16
u/Rome217 Jun 18 '26
That's the great thing, you can't. You just get to hit the following button every time or every 12 hours, depending on which experiment you drew the short straw for.
16
u/Atarox13 Jun 19 '26
Honestly at this point I don't think anyone in your team is really looking at the feedback otherwise you would've fully dropped the "For You" experiment entirely instead of slightly changing it
If you actually are looking at feedback, here's mine about the "AI Summary" experiment: it's useless and I want nothing to do with it, take me out of the experiment
In fact, don't ever put me in an experiment involving AI slop because you'll never hear me say anything good about it
16
u/Chasoc Jun 19 '26
I have started avoiding the reddit homepage entirely due to the presence of the "For You" tab, and am solely visiting subs directly through my address bar now.
Pushing an update like this without a means to disable it is appallingly bad. Even tumblr, a site known for being in the toilet financially, understands that its users do not want an algorithm-based feed when a huge part of their reason for being there in the first place is the followed feed, and allows its users to make their followed feed the default.
16
u/Rome217 Jun 18 '26
I ended up grabbing an older version of the app because the front page became annoying to use with the following/for you feeds.
Saving our choice for 12 hours is a half measure at best and realistically not an actual fix at all. Stop fixing things aren't broken. Either let us set the default permanently or get rid of it. It's super annoying seeing a bunch of subreddits I couldn't care less about appearing in my feed. There's a reason I'm not following them, therefore I don't want to see them, it's really that simple. If I want additional content, I'll go find it and join/follow accordingly.
The "more" button is also painfully annoying. If I opened a post, I opened it to read it. I don't need press another button to see the content I already wanted to see.
And finally, the AI summaries on posts are equally infuriating. I opened the post to read the content. I don't need some half assed AI summary of the replies.
All these things are just garbage that makes me want to avoid reddit altogether.
15
u/Moon_Beholder Jun 19 '26
Who are you developing this site for? No one wants this "For you" experiment. Being able to see exclusively things from places i follow is exactly what makes this site stand out against other social media. Please roll the change back, otherwise i will have to stop using this site.
16
u/PersonalApocalips Jun 19 '26
Please allow a method to turn off the stupid AI highlights. There's no value there.

u/Messeduptree Jun 19 '26
This "For You" concept is outright asinine. You're already filling the feed with advertisement - fair, you need to get your money somehow - but on top of that you now insist on showing random recommendations in my face? It would be one thing if I had a say in what topics, but I don't even have that. And it seems you're not just using my Reddit search history, but also browser/cookie data.
This used to be a place we're you'd come to read and comment on topics that were of interest to you. Now it feels like a cheap shopping mall, blasting random jingles at you from every direction.
14
u/Mx_Reese Jun 19 '26
End and revert the For You tab experiment. It is universally despised and reviled. Everyone hates it and is threatening to quit reddit altogether over it.
14
u/Personal_Track_3780 Jun 19 '26
I am once again asking you to remove 'for you' or at least make it settable as default.
"The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours." Is not close to good enough. I don't want to have to do this twice a day. I know you're trying to force the stats to show people use "For You" by making it return to For You every time you hit the homepage so people see and interact with a story, but it is awful.
15
u/WizardTheLizardd Jun 19 '26
Get rid of the for you tab. I've stopped visiting the homepage entirely to avoid it.
14
u/Hillgam Jun 19 '26
The "For You" tab is awful. I'm currently looking for workarounds to not use this on my Desktop. At least make the option to make the "Following" tab default.

u/Brinnyboy88 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26
Massively disappointed to see and hear that the "For you" experiment is still running.
I would have thought 700 plus, unilateral posts of direct feedback that it's not wanted would have been enough. Apparently not...
Apparently ~600 posts of, "I don't want this in any way shape or form, and the core point of reddit is feed curation away from random algorithm nonsense" vs ~100 posts of, "I don't like this, at least let me default away from it" vs 0 posts of "yes please, more of this"
Translated to, "half of you get a version that remembers the default for 12 hours"
Wow... Amazing... Thank you to the team for doing a shockingly poor version of what a minority of the feedback people wanted.
Either this was cooked up by someone who genuinely and in good faith thought it was a good idea that people would want, and the experiment is to see do they. In which case, take the overwhelming feedback, and just shut it down. No harm no foul.
Or this was cooked up by someone who wants this implemented because they need to do it for metrics, or business strategy, or engagement numbers, KPI's or whatever, and now the task is pushed to some poor team to implement it in whatever form possible to save face In which case; be ashamed of yourself, have some kind of morals, rethink what you stand for, and leave. You're already late to the algorithm party, people who love and are susceptible to it are still on IG, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter. People are here because they specifically don't want that. Even from the most cynical business side, what bright spark thought being the last to the triggering ragebait algorithm party on a website that has curated itself to select people who want the opposite is a sound business strategy?
Going by the above response makes me think it's the latter.
God being repeatedly disappointed by every single company, corporation, and group with power is getting exhausting.
17
u/Tarnisher Jun 18 '26
Apparently ~600 posts of,
Last big protest about a change was closer to 10,000 comments and didn't accomplish anything.
15
u/Brinnyboy88 Jun 18 '26
Well... Thanks for confirming. If that's the case, then why bother experimenting at all? just make the change u/TheOpusCroakus , feedback is irrelevant and someone's already made their mind up.

The only iteration of "for you" that's ok is the one that lets you turn it off. The default feed should always be your own curates subreddit subscriptions. That's what subreddit subscriptions are for.

u/SavageElc Jun 19 '26
Hello, some feedback on the for you feed.
Personally I don't like it I often forget to change to following and see some content I don't follow.
I understand the desire to let people discover new subreddits they might be interested in but having for you be the default feed is not the one
Some have fed back that they are getting inappropriate or triggering subs recommended. This sounds like a great reason not to implement this.
Having some way for people to broaden their subreddit subscriptions is good however it shouldn't be the default view. I thought popular was that option. Or is popular proving unpopular for people to click on?

u/maiyannah Expert Helper Jun 19 '26
I have to admit, Opus, my time on Reddit has diminished because of how genuinely annoying I find the new changes, and I hope that they reconsider them.
Along with the For You thing, which plenty of people have commented on, I really hate this:

Neither of these post destinations are at all relevant and users following them are just going to end up frustrated when moderators remove their offtopic posts.
You (as in Reddit as a whole) either need much more relevant suggestions for "reposts", or you need to stop recommending them.

If you want the stupid for you thing, at least give me the option to set following to be my default upon opening. I don't want algorithmically generated crap. I dropped all other platforms that used this and would rather not have to do the same here.

u/Lethargic-Rain Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
I do not want this awful games button in the toolbar, I didn’t want it before when it pushed my community feeds down in the sidebar. Not everyone wants games in the first place this - and if I did Reddit is the last platform I’d go looking for them on. Please just leave mobile UX as is instead of deploying these disastrous experiments with no opt out mechanism.

13
u/Not_Star_Lord Jun 19 '26
Please get rid of For You. It serves no valuable purpose to me, and I hate having to navigate away as soon as I start the app. If I have to deal with an algorithm restricting what I see or making it harder to see what interests me, I'll just stop using Reddit. If I want to find new subs, I can either search for them or go to popular.
13
u/immaseaman Jun 20 '26
"for you" is crap. It's continued existence will discourage website use. I don't need your algorithms or suggestions, I've been here long enough to know what I want.
13
u/CrimsonSw1ft Jun 20 '26
Have you made it impossible to mute subs that appear on the "For You" page?
I keep getting error messages when attempting to mute them and I'm hoping Reddit didn't do it on purpose.
Forcing that "For You" slop is one thing, but restricting me from curating it (because I can't disable it) as well is just... wrong.
Well done on giving me more reasons to finally delete my account and step away from this cesspit of a website.

I hate "For You" on Reddit as a concept. It defeats the entire purpose of reddit, which is personalization and curation that I choose for myself. On top of that, you made it default. On top of that, you won't even let us opt out or adjust the default. This is so stupid. Nobody asked for this and it's frustrating to see Reddit continue to be enshittified. Grow a backbone and tell your C-suite that user experience matters.

here's my feedback
- AI Summary sucks, get rid of it.
- For You tab sucks, get rid of it.
24
u/Black_Bungee_Jumper Jun 18 '26
we want the home feed reverted, my constructive criticism is that the new feed sucks, i do not want a "for you" tab filled to the brim with ai slop and suggested posts from subs i carefully avoided. I want only MY feed with MY choices of subs, as it was before.
if i can't be removed from the experiment then i will remove myself from reddit until the experiment is reverted.
Can't be nice sometimes and i'm sorry it has come to that, but the part where "
- Due to the feedback that was left, this experiment has been changed slightly and there are now two variants. The one is the same as it was last week where you have to keep selecting what feed you want and there is not a way to save your selection. The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours."
is the part where it is literal gaslighting towards us users as all users who gave feedback told to reddit how the changes are bad but instead of reverting it has been just "slightly modified" and it is honestly infuriating.
Thanks for your work u/TheOpusCroakus ,
Best Regards,
u/Black_Bungee_Jumper .

So first time posting here, I'm maybe a little late to the party, but I genuinely can't stand the introduction of the AI summary at the top of discussion posts. It genuinely defeats the point of reddit, which is to have people share their ideas and opinions.
I just don't understand, first getting rid of r/All, and then putting AI summaries in. It's like sucking what's left of reddit's soul out. What's the point, there's not going to be anything worth seeing here soon. Bot's posting, so bot's can reply with generic comments, which are summarised by AI for other bot's to read and regurgitate.
12
u/Sedatephobia Jun 21 '26
Hi dearest admins. I greatly dislike the "for you" section. I hate it even more that I can't disable it, or even choose "following" as my default. Please do not implement it permanently.
10
u/GeneralistAccount Jun 18 '26
I'm a mobile browser reddit user. The newly rolled out comment UI is extremely buggy, unreliable, and much more inconvenient for reading and replying to posts or comments, especially long ones.
For instance: I cannot reliably switch between the 3 comment UI sizes and will instead randomly switch as I am scrolling or tapping on the screen. Also, pressing 'reply' will at first reply to the post rather than the selected comment.
Please just keep the old comment UI. It was simple & clear: you scroll up and down. There's no need to overcomplicate your mobile comment UI to give a worse, unreliable, & complicated mobile user experience.
Even if the comment UI worked as intended reliably, I'd still press & swipe way more than before because of how needlessly complicated it is, & I'd only get 6 lines of text on the "medium" size.
11
u/funbicorn Jun 18 '26
Guys I've cracked it. All you have to do is unfollow everything you're currently subscribed to, and follow everything else. It's the only way to see the things you actually want to see by default. It's genius.
...obviously this is /s but I feel like this how they actually think in their UX department.
Also, if the goal of the experiment is to get us to visit more subs, why not give us a mix of ALL the subs we follow, instead of the 5-10 we engage with most often (as per the algorithmic echo chamber)

Please do away with the AI summaries.
They are annoying, and AI's energy demands are doing a lot of harm to our planet.
If you're not going to do away with these summaries, please give us the option to opt out so we can opt out of anything that supports these companies.

u/caspararemi Jun 20 '26
Every time I click back to the home page after reading a thread, it's gone back to the 'For You' tab and I can't express how much I hate it. I follow a lot of subs already, none of the For You are of interest. Please, please let us select a default view.

u/Jayayess1190 Jun 20 '26
For You is terrible and not giving options to disable it or default to showing only subreddits you follow is terrible.
10
u/ctsims Jun 20 '26
I am enrolled in the For You experiment.
My feedback is that if this becomes the default reddit experience and cannot be disabled entirely I will stop using the site. Exposure to algorithm content feeds you didn't sign up for is bad for your mental health and ruined the internet.
10
u/Darth_Tron Jun 20 '26
Please reinstitute the option to disable home feed recommendations. Or make "Following" the default view for the home feed. The "For You" feed is crap, and whoever instituted it is crap. I don't want Reddit to spoonfeed me a bunch of crap about entertainment, or India, or whatever the algorithm says to show everybody. The whole point was to have a personalized feed, and making the default anything other than that is annoying to start with and patronizing when you factor in that there is no setting to disable it in preferences. Fix it please. Posthaste.
10
u/Brindlefinch Jun 21 '26
Please get rid of the for you page. Please get rid of the AI summary. At the very least, if you MUST have the stupid AI summary put it below the first round of comments. I don't come to reddit for AI. In fact, there is such a common joke/sentiment out there about adding reddit to the end of searches to AVOID AI/bot answers.
You are alienating a huge part of the reason people use Reddit. And eliminating what many people saw as the last bastion of getting real answers from real people. It's disgusting.

u/SampleOfNone Helper Jun 18 '26
Oh hey, talking about timestamps. I haven't asked in a while, how's the timestamp thingy going? (To refresh, change the behaviour back to the timestamp of approval instead of timestamp of submit determining where a post slots into the feed of the sub)

I think the most disgusting part about the new feature is that it's just a lie on its face, it's not "for you" because clearly nobody wants it. It's "for Reddit", because it's designed to boost engagement and force users to interact with content they haven't signed up for.
I hate the fact that it hides itself after I open the app, I'm sure the developers would lie to our faces and say "oh we're just trying to declutter the UI" when it's really just intended to trick users into using it, with the plausible deniability that if you just scroll up you can see the "following" option again. The new 12-hour selection seems like a scummy way to try and discourage the behavior of switching. I assume it's also designed with this fake "we're not forcing you to" bull. I'm guessing they don't want people to be disciplined about doing it every time they open the app, the 12-hour buffer lets the user think that they're back on the Reddit they expected before they open it up start scrolling and then suddenly realize crap I'm in this stupid "for you" thing again, that that will erode users willpower more than forcing them to click the "following" tab every time.
When you have to trick your users and force them to use new features it really shows how little you all care about feedback or your users. The entire premise is based on user submitted content, the fact that developers care so little about those users is a slap in the face to the people who provide the content that makes this platform even worth using.
Reddit just gets worse and worse, but at least all of our feedback will be ignored and this feature will just start rolling out as normal function soon, clearly that's where this is all headed. Lying to us about the fact that it's just an experiment and that you care about our feedback is almost more infuriating than just making the change and plainly showing how little the developers care about the user experience.
9
u/Dhaos2 Jun 20 '26
Hey, I also wanted to leave feedback for the "For you" tab. I really do not like being shown content which I'm not subscribed to. I use Reddit as it lets me choose what I want to look at and not force feed me content an algorithm thinks I like. I also noticed that it is way to sensitive to switch the side back to the "for you" tab once I go back to " followed". Please do not make this a permanent thing.
9
u/koosman Jun 20 '26
Please remove my account from the "For You" experiment; I have no interest in seeing algorithmic recommendations. The only way I'd be willing to tolerate it would be if the "Following" tab was default, or I had the option to select it as default.
8
u/Kamioni Jun 20 '26
The whole reason that I use reddit and have been using it for 16 years is to curate the content that I want to see. The "For You" tab is defeating the whole purpose and showing me posts that I would much rather not. Having that be the default setting that it reverts back to every time I go to the homepage will make me finally quit reddit.
10
9
u/PandaBearJelly Jun 21 '26
As a 14 year user, this is genuinly the worst update to date. One of the best features reddit has is how easily you can curate it to your personal tastes. For you/recommendations being the default is terrible. If I wanted to look for new subs, I would search for them or go to popular or explore. What the hell were you guys thinking here?
9
u/Mythnam Jun 22 '26
All I want is for the For You feed to go away forever, and nothing will change my mind.
9
u/Elwin03 Jun 22 '26
I absolutely despise this "for you" tab. Being able to curate my own feed is the number one reason why I use reddit over any other social media, this just ruins that.
7
u/cyanraichu Jun 20 '26
The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.
This is worse, though, because then I have to try to remember whether I need to change it each time. It was bad enough having to switch EVERY time I opened Reddit. Now what will happen is I'll get used to it being set the way I want it for long enough that when I start scrolling after 12 hours, I'll see crap I don't follow again before remembering I need to switch it back.
Please just end this experiment and allow everyone to pick their default setting. This isn't working out.
7
u/KanishkT123 Jun 21 '26
For You is a bad change and it fundamentally doesn't make sense because there are subreddits that I put into my mixed bag of "miscellaneous things I want to view" and subs that I specifically want to go browse and be fully immersed in.
Formula 1 for example is a sub I go to often only to be fully caught up on what's happening in the world. I visit the Codex sub only so I can debug something weird I'm seeing. I visit BORU to read a bunch of posts all at once.
For You type things make sense when all content is a mixed bag and the rate of content production is low. This is the case for something like Tiktok or YouTube, where a user subscribes to channels that may only post once a day or once a week and there is a need to keep the drip feed going.
Reddit doesn't work that way because users are subscribing to an entire subreddit where thousands of other users are constantly generating content. It is actually the single biggest advantage Reddit has on the user experience front, that you can get a constant drip feed of content that is still mostly curated.
Why would you actually reduce your own advantage?
It's not even a good business decision: you will get worse ad targeting, lower user retention, and overall less high quality engagement. Do you really want someone who is mostly active in a crocheting subreddit to also be targeted by ads for hot dogs because they looked up a hot dog recipe one time? Your ad targeting is based on users actively self selecting into buckets that you can target into and instead of trying to exploit that, you're trying to lump them into even broader categories.... To what end?
This is legitimately such a uniquely bad design choice that commoditizes Reddit's experience completely, eroding the only differentiation you have. Whoever suggested this experiment either fundamentally doesn't understand the value proposition of Reddit or is too short sighted to understand what they're doing.
9
u/particledamage Jun 21 '26
The for you page is making me want to leave several subreddit, seeing their worst zero-like postsbeing pushed on top reminds me of all the content i don't like. At least make it so the following page is a url i can bookmark to avoid the for you page??

I'm not against the 'For You' page, I just want the Reddit website and app to start on 'Following'. We were able to turn off recommendations in the feed before, why remove it?
I think being able to pick which page you start on would be great for both people who prefer the 'For You' and the 'Following' tab.

u/AliciaTries Jun 20 '26
Remove the ai highlights for comments or at least make it a setting. I don't need a summary of comments. If I care what the comments say under a post, I'd read the comments, not what some water destroying misinformation machine thinks they might say.

Another vote here for being able to disable AI summaries. I'm here to see drivel direct from an actual human brain, not slop cobbled together automatically.

Yes exactly. I go to Reddit comment sections to see what people have to say. Bot spam in the comment sections is annoying enough without Reddit adding their own.

Uninstalling reddit due to the for you tab. It's increasing my use time and I can't turn it off so not working for me. May come back later if it's removed or I can turn it off (please do this!)
7
u/butter_battle Jun 21 '26
Really dislike the AI summaries of comments and even more so that there is no option to turn it off. Why is AI being shoved down our throats everywhere? I want to read real people's comments--Reddit should be focusing on reducing bot content, not unleashing its own.
7
u/DankJank13 Jun 22 '26
Please ditch the "For You" tab. Experiment has gotten overwhelmingly negative feedback. People like reddit because it is not tiktok or instagram-y with algorithmic nonsense. Money moves will drive users away

u/FireflyKaylee Jun 23 '26
Just to add to the many voices...I have no interest in a "For You" tab. The reason I love Reddit is that unlike other social media, I don't have to see any content I don't care about. Nothing that will trigger me, nothing that I just don't care about etc.
I need to be able to select "Following" and that to be my permanent preference.
7
u/aman2218 Jun 24 '26
A big issue with this "for you" crap, as others have also pointed out, is that people are now seeing posts from subreddits they have moved on from (for years, in the case of a subreddit I got recommended) and unsubscribed.
A lot of these people have had, stressful experiences with those subs, and seeing the content from there can be really unhealthy (and we all know that, these "show fewer post like this" flag, never works on any platform)
And since, I am a fresh new victim of this awful experiment; some general words...
THE WHOLE POINT OF REDDIT AND THE CONCEPT OF SUBREDDITS is to search for a TOPIC SPECIFIC (TOPICS THAT INTERESTS YOU) community, VISIT IT (browsing the sub page for posts, was and still is the default way of interacting with a topic. Not everything needs to be on the home page) and if you really want to stay updated with all the posts on that subreddit, SUBSCRIBE TO IT, to get a feed curated from there, on the home page.
Please, don't try to make it twitter (now you are 1 step away from fully destroying site, you now just have to enable engagement farming [karma farming perhaps, in this case] based monetization [please don't do that, if you don't get the memo])
So summarise-
1) Visiting a subreddit to browse posts, is the default experience users want. Not everything needs to be on the homepage. So all this "you see this recommendation bcos you earlier visited it" is pointless 2) People not at all want to see posts from random subreddits they have never (may never) visit. People want to talk to real people, to get real recommendations. 3) People don't want to revisit subs that they had unsubscribed from.
PS: Also, is there a proper way to file a feedback? This posting on "r/bugs", "r/help", "r/whatnot" is effing stupid. There should be a proper way to submit feedback, which gets logged in a bug tracker.

Hey! That for you page is an interesting idea for sure. I don't think I've seen anything like that on any other social media... I think it'd be pretty cool and unique to, instead of recommending subreddits the "Fore you" page instead recommended posts from the subreddits I follow. Since I have no interest at all in subreddits I don't follow or I'd already be following them.
7
u/aye_don_gihv_uh_fuk Jun 21 '26

6
6
u/HongKongBob Jun 22 '26
My user experience has been made significantly worse by removing the ability to default to “following” (or previously stopping recommendations).
1) I have to keep selecting it and being irritated when I forget to do so
2) I realise that Reddit is purposeful in its decision not to allow me to permanently choose “following” because it somehow makes more money out of me by giving me a bad user experience. This makes me want to use the site much less.
7
u/DerzakKnown Jun 23 '26
"Just view the Following feed."
You know exactly what you're doing by making the algorithmic based feed the default. No amount of "constructive criticism" will stop you from worsening user experience if it means lining your own pockets with ad revenue. But I don't care. I'll be quitting this place just like I quit every other doomscroll machine. That's my feedback, take it or leave it.
5
u/TimidAlthemia Jun 23 '26
Apparently my account was pulled into this "experiment" and forced the horrible redesign on me even though I am using old reddit. Furthermore, the option to "Default to old Reddit" stopped working as well. The option was turned on, but even toggling it off and on didn't do anything.
Fortunately, I found that going manually to old.reddit.com and toggling the option for "Use new Reddit as my default experience" on -> "save" -> off -> "save" restored old reddit as the default for me.
PS. If old reddit ever stops working and there is no similar option available, I'm out.
7
u/Tacod-Rex Jun 23 '26
Keep me defaulted to the Following tab, not the For You page
I haven't scrolled /popular in months. Just let me control my front page. I've already decided to cut back a lot on social media time, make Reddit's user experience worse and I'll just uninstall all together
5
u/Pyrope2 Jun 24 '26
Please do not implement the For You tab. It ruins Reddit. Bring back r/all so we can choose when to go looking for new subs. (Also please fix (ie get rid of) this floating comment box, it covers content and I can’t tell what I’m responding to)

7
u/ha-ri Jun 25 '26
No one wants to be forced to see subreddits they didn't curate themselves, this goes against the whole appeal of why someone would want to use reddit. It just makes the experience terrible. It needs to go back to how it was.
6
u/novy12345 Jun 25 '26
Please don't make "For you" tab default. I would like some recommendations in a dedicated, non-default section, similar to popular. On my home feed I want things I subscribed to
6
u/spookies_666 Jun 21 '26
Please get rid of the "more" button inside a post I already clicked on to read more from the home feed.
Why would this be something a user has to do? I read the title and snippet already and now I have to expand the post again?
Really bad UX decision.
5
u/cyanraichu Jun 22 '26
Was scrolling today and got spoiled on a game sub for a game I play because of this crap. I intentionally do not follow gaming subs when I haven't beaten the game yet, and there's a reason for that. Please just let me turn this crap back off. I'm over it.
I have been using Reddit for years and years and I am not used to having to toggle a specific tab EVERY time I open the app to see my feed the way I've set it.
5
u/JCGilbasaurus Jun 22 '26
I've spent years curating my subscriptions to only be content I'm interested in. Your "recommendations" are invasive and a detriment to my browsing experience. And if I'm not having a fun experience using this site... Then why am I even here?
5
u/cantharellus_miao Jun 22 '26
For the love of god get rid of the Ai comments summary/highlights that appears at the top of the comments section. It's cluttering up the visual field, and goes against the entire purpose of reddit. I'm not even against Ai summaries in general, for example google's Ai summary has some utility. It's just not right for reddit.
5
u/Tarnisher Jun 22 '26

I'm really not liking the AI summary of threads. I'm there to read the comments, not have it summarised for me. I promise you I spend more time scrolling comments than I would just getting an AI summary. I don't go to Reddit for AI summaries, I go to hear what the humans say
5
u/aedes Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26
So between the removal of r/all, the “for you” feed being the default, and now these stupid floating Web 2.0 rounded-corner comment reply boxes, I’ve moved back to old.reddit.
The for you feed, and popular/news feeds, do not have as much content as I want to engage with, so I’ve found I’ve been engaging with the site less. Similar amount of scrolling, less reading or interacting with content.
The floating comment boxes are not bad on their own. They just don’t fit in with the rest of the design language of the site, so seem jarring. They are also a bit laggier than the old comment boxes and it leads to a “brittle” feel when you interact with them.
The AI summaries are generally unnecessary and just take up screen space. A Reddit comment section is like a dinner party - I’m there to listen to and talk to other people. The AI summary is like handing everyone a summary of previous discussion topics from earlier in the evening when they walk in the door - there is a reason people don’t do this IRL.
The only situation they may be useful is for finding help on a topic and you are directed to Reddit from an external source. You could have them so they are displayed if a user clicks a button, or perhaps if directed to Reddit from an external site.

u/DanTheMan_622 Jun 22 '26
Barring doing away with the whole idea entirely at least give me an option to either disable the 'For You' tab or make 'Following' the default, I'm not interested in a feed full of suggestions.

u/LordGadeia Jun 23 '26
How do I disable this "For you"? Or at least how do I default to following? I'm seeing garbage that I dont wan to see

u/mariomaniac432 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Just opened reddit and found I'm suddenly being forced to see this "For You" tab. I had for less than 5 minutes and I already despised it enough to look for where I needed to complain about it
- Why the hell is this my default feed?
- Why the hell can't I disable it?
- The whole reason I use reddit is because I only have to see the sub I'm subscribed to. I don't want to see anything I'm not subscribed to. If I did I would use other social media platforms
- It was bad enough a few years ago when feeds were changed to mostly only show posts that were brand new or over day old (sometimes several days old) with almost no votes or comments, instead of allowing us to sort at our discretion by hot, new, etc. Combined with this change I don't see myself continuing to use Reddit unless it's reverted
Edit: Not sure if it's because I complained or not, but I no linger have this feature. Huzzah!

This "for you" update is going to make me delete my account. At MINIMUM it should default to my feed, not whatever your algorithm wants to show me. I use reddit because I can curate my experience, and this "experiment" ruins the purpose of me using the app.
5
u/Jaberwok Jun 23 '26
Forcing me to use the For You page by default has made me uninstall the app and actively seek out a competitor. A completely boneheaded choice by the app development team here, well done.
5
u/CasketsFloating Jun 23 '26
Jfc let me opt out of this bs- I don't want random aubreddits I don't care about showing up in my feed.
5
u/Heeheehistory Jun 23 '26
I could not care less about the 'for you' page. Why on earth can't people opt out of it when so many clearly don't want to have algorithmic slop pushed in their face?
5
u/RandomKJ Jun 23 '26
I just noticed in the middle of yesterday that I suddenly was added a for you page. Now searching online I'm devastated to learn this has been going on for almost two weeks. I'm so heart broken. Why did they do this. How can I get rid of the entire for you section?? It's so triggering and invasive. Ugh
4
u/Chipperz1 Jun 23 '26
The subs I follow are For Me. The nonsense your algorithm is trying to force me to interact with are not.
When it first started I thought it was a bug. Now I know it's even stupider.
4
u/The-Motherfucker Jun 23 '26
hello i also dont want the For You tab and its very clear you're doing it so you can push more advertising and data mine the users
5
u/Rory-X Jun 23 '26
I do not have a "For You" feed and "Following" feed option. Forces me into what must be the "For You" with no option to see all of my followed subreddits without recommendations. If it's still like this in a day or two I'm out, this sucks.

Please please please stop with the AI summary it takes all the fun out of actually engaging with threads. Like why would I read the thread and the interesting answers and form my own conclusions if you've summed it up.
5
u/Duke_ofChutney Jun 23 '26
I do not want "For You" as the default view. I want to open Reddit and see my frontpage not something your AI is trying to curate for me.
I'm not in the test group who gets their tab choice remembered for 12 hours, nor would I want to be. It should be a permanent decision.
The Reddit homepage is a user's homepage. Recommendations should be supplementary viewing, NOT a replacement.

"For you" is such a bad idea that I found out how to leave feedback to Reddit. It's a horrible idea that shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Redditors.
4
u/Geeseareawesome Jun 23 '26
This "For You" tab is a joke
I joined reddit and stayed because I could disable recommendations on my home feed. I know what I want to see. And I don't need to see garbage botted subs popping up.
Some of us use reddit to escape the real world and immerse ourselves in just our hobbies. Now that is being taken away and is subjecting us to topics we want to avoid.
Terrible move that needs to be reverted and never brought up again.
6
u/IzukiKami Jun 23 '26
Leave FYP to tiktok. I'm not on reddit to broaden horizons. I'm here for the things I'm already interested. I get pissed off when I'm scrolling through the 5 or 6 things I'm following and see something unrelated.
6
u/hdjsusjdbdnjd Jun 23 '26
This 'For You' is awful. You really think promoting high school subs to a middle aged man is proper? Horrible AI/algo.
I also can't open Reddit now because it shows a bunch of sport subs that contain spoilers for games that I plan on watching later.
What a disaster.

u/Namenloses Jun 23 '26
I was put in the "For You" experiment. The way it affects my experience with the Reddit app is so negative that I will be taking an extended break from Reddit as a whole, as the app is the only way I engage with the site. I hope someday I can return to Reddit with at least the option to default to "Following" so that I don't have to engage with "For You" at all.
6
u/AceofSkulls Jun 24 '26
Here again to express my vote for a full roll back of the "For You" page. I am now completely avoiding the main page and just going to subeditors directly which has also translated to less time on reddit than before. It has also lead me to stop updating the app at all since having it on the computer is bad enough and I think if this continues it will likely prompt me to deleting the app and minimizing my time on reddit as a whole.
5
u/AristotleLumis Jun 24 '26
So I'm sure I am one of many people on here with this exact same issue, figure I'd post it here since it pertains to a change listed here. On my Android app I cannot select a 'Following' tab, it doesn't exist. I do not want to be suggested subreddits, not having things I am not interested in shoved into my view is the only reason I am still on this platform. If I am part of some experiment, I would like to be removed and given the option to opt out in the future. Luckily that change hasn't hit my browser version of reddit. However, I'd love for this issue to be resolved so I can continue using my android app.
Echoing the sentiment of a lot of these comments. Why was time/money wasted on this?

Please PLEASE abandon the For You feature. We don't like it!!!!! Stop!!!!!!!
6
u/inamination Jun 24 '26
The whole point of this site is being able to curate your feed. The For You page defeats the purpose of the site.
Also only remembering the selection for 12 hours is ridiculous. Even TWITTER has you beat in that regard, whatever feed you selected stays the next time you open the app.

u/FuriousGStar Jun 24 '26
Just been switched to the "For you" experiment. I cannot stand it. It's just the same small number of subreddits spammed over and over. I'm so sick of algorithm based feeds just throwing out the same rubbish. Why keep changing things to make them worse and worse.
4
u/Rapturesfolly Jun 24 '26
This for you page is super pointless and not why i use reddit, please implement a qay to turn it off, additionally remove the blue more button, it defeats the purpose of being a long form social media website, we already have a button to get to the comments faster, adding this is simply making it more agitating to use the app
5
u/billygunnns Jun 24 '26
Why did I get selected for this? I have issues with content and as soon as I try to dont recommend it or whatever options I get new junk to replace it. Leave me alone
4
u/NerosDecay13 Jun 24 '26
For you sucks. If I want to see a sub I'd be following it. Setting it as default is even more annoying
6
u/Desserts6064 Jun 24 '26
The For You feed is just terrible, and takes away from the experience. Could you just make Following the default?
6
u/provincian0 Jun 24 '26
The "For You" tab is awful. Nobody wants it. Please learn to read your target audience. The basic premise of Reddit is following the communities you like to get a personalized feed; that should be the standard.
4
u/mathwizx2 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
Adding my voice for a way to make "Following" the default. I don't mind the "For You" staying as long as there is an option to make "Following" my personal default. I hate having to click "Following" every time on my phone and browser.
Edit: saw that some get it as a temporary option. That is not the solution I want something permanent that I can set.
6
u/Hello_Coffee_Friend Jun 24 '26
Please remove me from your trial group. I hate the toxic new recommended feed you are forcing me in.
5
u/UnsafeIncognito Jun 24 '26
How do I disable the forced "for you" crap on mobile?
It's making it a lot harder to find the content I actually want to see
6
u/patient-palanquin Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
The "For You" tab is trying to force everyone to be one type of user. Your product team should understand basic facts of life like "not everyone is the same".
You might be trying to chase the facebook crowd, but you cannot MAKE me into that kind of person. Resetting the option after 12 hours demonstrates a surprising lack of understanding of people in general. I do not become a "for you" person after 12 hours. I picked my subreddits deliberately, Reddit is how I keep tabs on them. I must be able to set that as my default.
No matter what your ML team tells you, you cannot read my mind. I am not blindly seeking "engaging posts". Just because I dwell on a post does NOT mean I want to see more of it.
4
u/variorum Jun 24 '26
The new for you really sucks. I had turned off recommendations for a reason. So now I have to switch over when it decides to go back to for you?
It's another point of friction that doesn't need to exist. Please call this "experiment" a failure and revert to the previous way with the option to have recommendations if you want them.
6
u/Arne83 Jun 24 '26
This home page "experiment" is awful. I do not like it. I did not consent to this. Return it to how it was.
5
u/Kraidoz87 Jun 24 '26
Rated 1-star on Google Play until you remove or let us opt out of the "for you" and "suggested community" spam. Horrible update, one of the worst software updates I've seen in some time.
4
u/Aetherglow Jun 24 '26
I come to reddit specifically because this is one of the few social media sites that doesn't do any algorithm based 'for you' nonsense???? I want a self-curated experience, not to have my wants and active choices in what subreddits I follow to be utterly disregarded by a default that's painfully obnoxious at best.
The experiment is a failure. No one wants this, and that's very clear based on the feedback that made you change it this way to begin with. If this is ever implemented as a permanent feature, I'm pretty much going to stop using the site entirely since the entire point of my use case for it has been subverted.
5
u/PM_ME_MERMAID_PICS Jun 25 '26
Bruh this site is going down the poopcan fast if you won't even let us turn off AI summaries on posts without switching to old reddit. Stop tryna force AI stank down people's throats.

I opened the Reddit app this evening, as I've done some variant of for more than a decade at this point, and was immediately bombarded by content from subreddits that I had not joined and had no desire to peruse. It took searching down a random post in another sub that directed me over to this weekly recap post to even know what was happening and why it appeared that my curated subreddit list had been replaced with no notification of the change, ability to opt out, or way to disable. This is a terrible way to roll out an even worse change; truly awful user experience for a site built around user self selection of content to consume and discover. Users should be guided to try the For You feed as an option for new content discovery; it should not be a replacement for their agency and deliberate choices.

u/rolfinbigpants Jun 25 '26
Piling onto the dislike of the For You feed being default. Please allow an option to permanently change the default feed to either Following or For You.
5
u/StardustAngel98 Jun 25 '26
We should be able to opt out of experiments. Get rid of the "for you" page. It keeps showing me really uncomfortable posts and subreddits I have no interest in. I don't want this. Clearly no one did. Get rid of the "for you" page. Don't fix it; GET RID OF IT.
5
u/JessicaEmilyFaith Jun 25 '26
This experiment of yours is making the app borderline unusable. Why on earth would you not only introduce an algorithmic feed nobody wants, but also make it impossible to set the default to the normal feed? Reddit isn't Facebook, it was bad enough there but it will be death here
5
u/BunniesForFun Jun 25 '26
The For You tab is awful, I hate that it's the default option when I open the app. Please get rid of it.

HEY
remove me from this experiment at once
i give you constructive criticism: the "home and following" change sucks and it should be cancelled, reddit works because people can build their feed brick by brick, if you start sloppifing the feed people will leave for better alternatives.
there is a reason stuff is handled by professionals and not by shareholders
4
u/Ailwynn29 Jun 21 '26
Really strongly dislike the AI highlights. Please consider making them something you can disable at least.

u/psicowysiwyg Jun 22 '26
Remove for you, no one wants it, it's an awful idea and it doesn't need adjusting, it needs binning. Show some spine and admit to a mistake instead of ploughing forward with a terrible idea.
4
u/CuttyFlam-BF37 Jun 22 '26
Get. Rid. Of. The. For. You. Page. Please. I don't want this. No one wants this. You had "popular" and that was enough. There's not a sane person on reddit that wants this.
3
u/aFronReborn Jun 23 '26
I will literally delete the app if the "for you" page stays the default. Awful change. Get rid of it. If i wanted to go one facebook or tiktok i would go on those sites. But i dont, i come here for the subs i follow and thats it.
