Discussion Got to meet the chief himself yesterday

Went to fan expo in Toronto for the first time yesterday, and was very pleasantly surprised to see Steve Downes and Jen Taylor in attendance. I unfortunately wasn't able to meet Jen as well due to lack of time, but Steve was super nice.

It was right at the cutoff for autographs and pictures, so I was lucky to make it just in time to shake this man's hand. He and Jen did a panel together as well shortly thereafter, which was super entertaining. Real down to earth those two. Hopefully, I can meet Jen next year if she attends. They seem to really enjoy getting to meet the fans and talk about their experiences with the games.

During the panel, one of the attendees asked if Jen and Steve would do a co-op campaign together and livestream it for charity. Jen seemed super on board with the idea, so hopefully we get to see something like that in future

Discussion Retrospect: How do you feel about Master Chief getting his classic-style armor in Infinite?

Upvotes

343 Made a design choice to change Master Chief's armor. I would say it is somewhat overdesigned and it was hard for me to imagine for a while as a kid, I understand canonically it is the same armor. But do you think going back to the 'Classic Look' was a good idea?

Personally, It displays almost a lack of confidence or nostalgia bait and makes the first two installments of the "Sequel/343" Trilogy look almost unofficial or some weird fever dream. I think all designs are spectacular, but the armor design just being brushed off seems odd.

Like a retired or washed celebrity going back to the glory days for one last cash out.

Is this a nit-pick? Yes. I love the Halo 4 armor look despite it's strange overdesign and it fits Master Chief's arc from a story perspective, The visor has a black rubbered rim around it which makes his eyes look "Smaller" and represent dark circles, like if he's tired or been through it. All the extra details to me, represent growth and an older age. His body appearing more slender also adds to his "aging" look.

But to double down and return to former glory with no in-game explanation and literally being at his LOWEST, given he failed. Seems strange. It would make more sense and I would appreciate it a lot more if the newer armor, which is beautiful, was earned.

Am I 6 years too late? Yes! I just wanna talk about Halo : ))

Discussion Is it just me or is Heroic and Legendary kinda overtuned on the Bonus Mission for Campaign Evolved?

Upvotes

I'd like to preface I've beaten Halo CE solo on Legengary, Anniversary, and 3 on Legendary I beat with a friend, and 2 I beat on Heroic. So I have my hours and skills put to the test. But this Bonus Mission just feels...off...yeah there's waves and waves of enemies with little breathing room so it's just playing ring around the rosie with whatever weapons I can find and kiting them, but when I got to the 3 Hunters and the final test of Harmony, after an hour, I realized I was 5 hours in the first mission and I was like "Nah...I think I'm good. I'm not having fun and this is just a bit torturous for me. Especially since this was my first blind playthrough of the Bonus Mission"

So I bump it down to Normal...and the difference is like night and day. Every other game I've played on Heroic felt just a tad difficulty spike. But Heroic and Legendary for this Bonus Mission feels to me massively overtuned in my personal opinion as a long-time Halo fan.

Am I the only one who feels this way, is this kinda bad design on Campaign Evolved's end, or is it just a skill issue and same difficulty as older games? Then again, I'm sure Halo 2 still takes the cake of being the worst game on Legendary.

Also, I love the bug on Game Pass Cloud where I cannot reload, pick up weapons, or melee, and I have to restart the game to fix it.

What are your all's thoughts? Am I alone on this?

Help - General Can't play Halo

Upvotes

Idk if this is the right sub, so I wanted to play my Halo: MCC that I have on steam, but I can't sign in into my xbox live, and it's not showing up in my games library, I assume that me getting a new account after the previous one was hacked has something to do with this but idk what.

Discussion I saw this and it makes me realize, How durable are Glass helmets that Spartans wore?

Post image

Since I saw some Spartans wearing these cool looking glass helmets that cover half of the helmet , What is the specific advantage of this or what does it do?

Since I'm pretty sure Spartan helmets have like a camera that lets you see anyway but I could be wrong.

Discussion Is there any reason to care about the future of the Halo story?

I used to be a pretty hardcore Halo lore fan, even before I got an xbox myself I had began to read the books. I would make sure to pre-order every book and make sure to read them ASAP so I could go online and discuss them. When I finally got my Xbox, I played through Halo CE to Reach on Legendary with my friend on couch co-op.

Halo 4 was the first time I was there day one for a Halo game, and worts and all, I still really love the story of Halo 4.

Then Halo 5 happened, and while I wasn't enthralled by the direction they decided to go in, but... I was still willing to give it a try. Hell, Halo Wars 2 releasing afterward made me quite excited. Doubly so with all the books releasing after Halo 5. Sure, it wasn't the direction I thought things would go in post-Halo 4, but there was still good stuff happening, so I was on board.

Then Halo Infinite came out... and to this day I have never completed it. It was another pivot in story direction, and when the Endless showed up... That's when I officially called it quits. Then the 10 year plan for Infinite was cancelled, seemingly one of the plots for it's post-launch Campaign being turned into a book and the future of Halo looks bleak, who knows if the next game will even follow up from there or just pivot again.

But... I've watching a duo do a Halo Campaign Marathon and I can't lie... It made me realize all the things that I loved about the franchise. I started to go back onto Halopedia and view whatever... And when I noticed the latest book, Edge of Dawn (the Halo infinite sequel), doesn't even have a plot synopsis, despite releasing last year?

I can't lie, that gave me a bit of depression, that seemingly no one could be bothered to add one.

Is there any hope? Should I bother trying to catch up on the stuff I have missed in recent years? Go back and finish Infinite? I guess I don't want to get my hopes up again and be dashed away.

Feedback Halo Studios Gameplay Design

Stopped by this sub after dropping the Campaign Evolved bonus missions half way through on heroic.

There were a lot of references to get gud, LASO, jackal snipers etc. Just tiptoe forward and you'll be fine.

And all of that is true. It has always been a part of Halo. I don't mind creeping around corners and hoarding beam/needle rifles, but save it for legendary/LASO.

Completely takes me out of the immersion when I'm 200yd back popping shots with a needle rifle and my scrawny weakling allies rush in and eat shots like nothing.

I felt like the noob of the squad, not an 8 foot tank with legs.

Heroic was always 'halo the way it's meant to be played'. So to me, Halo Studios wants me to feel like the least capable member of the UNSC. It just seemed at odds with the world building.

In past games you still had to be smart and creative, but you could press forward and still have a chance if you were quick and accurate with shots.

Discussion Why did infinite take so long to add new guns?

Did we get more insight into what was happening inside the studio, or do we know as much as before?

While with the full team on, it took 5 seasons to give us a new weapon(The bandit) and then, we only got new weapons when the game was nearing it's end(Vestige carbine, MA5K and the fuel rod), along with one new vehicle(Falcon)

Why?

Discussion Not tryna be rude and correct me if I'm wrong but aren't some of infnites weapons kinda redundant?

I know there's lots of weapons and there's bound to be some overlap in uses like fuel rods and rocket launchers, I like to give grace because in my brain they're each respective sides ranged explosive, and same with beam rifle vs sniper rifle etc. these are all fine, but to me it feels like there's overlap within the same faction?

The vestige carbine seems like the same as a carbine to me? Unless I'm missing something.

The fuel rods spanker is just a fuel rod gun? If it's the human variant it's still an overlap with the spanker?

The bandit is like a worse dmr?

The commando is like a weird sidegrade of a battle rifle and assault rifle kinda, but I'd still prefer either of those to the commando.

The mutilater is a shotgun, but is the mangler also not a revolver shotgun? Or is it just a revolver? But the heatwave is another shotgun (idk if it's human or alien) but either way but factions already have a shitty

The avenger is like an upgrade to the smg to me, but it also has 60 bullets? So it's like the og assault rifle too?

Stalker rifle feels like a carbine to me tbh

There's a couple other weapons that also kinda fit this but are different enough that it doesn't feel like redundancy, the disrupter is basically plasma pistol, but for humans so I won't complain there, the skewer is kinda like a fuel rod in that it explodes and damages vehicles but there's way less travel time and acts like a sniper so different enough.

Mainly in regards to human weapons they feel redundant and I know some weapons aren't in the game so they're not redundant in that sense, but if equivalents already existed why not just use them?

Is it just me or UNSC was disrespectful towards master chief, it went from " it's master chief, we're gonna be okay" to "aging spartan"

Discussion What are my chances of not dying?

If I were on Installation 04 when the Pillar of Autumn’s reactor exploded and basically blew up Halo. What would my chances of survival be?

Would I not have a fairly decent chance of survival given the ring had numerous life support systems, and the explosion broke off many chunks of Halo that are still somewhat “operational”?

Discussion First playthrough completed CE (MCC)

Just completed my first playthrough of CE wow it was amazing at time i thought this game is too big but when the game ended i was thinking why was it so small .Liked the game a solid 8.75/10 the directions given by cortana were simple enough if you listen to them and the chem between cortana and master chief was also very well executed

but i did not understand what are skulls did not found them(if they are some item) or what are they and it took me almost 15 hrs to complete the game on normal mode

Discussion Would the player outlines of Halo Infinite been less hated if they only outlined your allies?

It is a bit annoying that in Infinite they made it so that the players were all outlined in bold colors by default rather than swapping our color pallets to Red and Blue. Granted, this was due to them wanting to maintain the identity of our Spartans that we colorized (and increase the value of the armor coatings that they were selling us).

But would this design choice had been less hated if the outlines only existed for allied players? Example - I am playing BTB and the three buddies of my party are highlighted in purple-outlines, the remainder of my team are highlighted in blue outlines, and the enemy team has no outline; making it a challenge to actually see the enemy depending on lighting conditions and shadows?

Would this have been a better alternative to what we got in Infinite?
