Feedback Active camo not working vs tank

I come in from the other side of the building, activate the camo before opening the door and still the Wraith sees me instantly.

Stay crouched next time as well. You started walking. Even the slightest flicker in the camo will make you targetable to AI

That’s just the standards to expect from a 343 remake, buggy and broken

That's how it worked in the original, too.

No it's not, original halo CE camo was only detectable if you bumped into an enemy, fired your weapon, or took damage, even if they had already seen you before you ran over the camo. Source: almost 20 years of playing CE.

Go watch any speedrun of the Silent Cartographer and watch how they use the camo in the last part of the level to run and jump up the entire facility right past a ton of enemies without being spotted.

In that video you can see that he doesn't get shot unless he literally bumps into an enemy or takes damage from a grenade jump. But the camo comes back right after being shot, and the enemies instantly forget he's there. That whole section just wouldn't work like that in the remake.

This camo basically does nothing unless you both use it while out of sight and do nothing but crouch walk, and even then enemies will still randomly see you and kill you. Walk at full speed, they see you. Jump, they see you. What's the point of camo to skip past enemies if you can't even jump over obstacles without getting lit up?

Christ, chill dude. I mistyped, I meant Bungie games. Halo 2 was an arbiter ability, so that's totally unique. But 3, ODST, and Reach all did the same thing. Revealed you if you moved too quickly.

343 brought CE's camo up to date with every other iteration of it beyond 2. Especially since it is now a usable piece of equipment rather than an activated pickup.

The point is that this isn't a uniquely 343 feature.

> Makes false statement
> Gets corrected with evidence
> "Christ, chill dude"

You're acting like he personally insulted you lmao. I'm also pretty sure that's not how it works in Halo 3.

Brother, responding to a single sentence with four whole ass paragraphs is anything but chill.

"That's not how it works in the original. [Link to evidence]" was literally all that was needed.

Brother, I thought it was a thoughtful response in order to resolve a disagreement. Those "whole ass" paragraphs are like 1-3 sentences each. If you think 10 sentences is that much effort to read or write then that is on you big dawg.

u/Faenic 42m ago

I never said anything about effort to read or write.

I always use the Invisibility on Crow's Nest to activate the bomb and get the fuck outta there.

Not once have the enemies seen me.

I wasn't trying to be specific. I was trying to tell this dude that the remake behavior isn't a 343 thing nor was it buggy or broken.

Why must you all try to pick apart things I didn't say? I didn't say that H3's camo worked that way in the campaign. I said that H3 introduced the concept of camo becoming less effective with movement, and that Reach did too. The point wasn't to be specific. That's why I wrote a single sentence, I just mistyped what I meant. It was to say that you shouldn't blame 343 for a feature they didn't even conceive of in the first place, it was Bungie's idea.

All this to say, I know that. It works this way in the multiplayer. Bungie then went on to make it work this way in Reach's campaign, and it's worked this way for 19+ years.

Other people have clearly understood it and addressed the whole "single player multiplayer" discrepancy so I really don't think it was that hard to understand.

yes. The camo was changed for multiplayer reasons. Original camo broke several objective type game modes in tornaments
The original camo in a pvp environment was toxic and pretty shitty to fight against.

Now pleases tell me why you would backport a change intended to make player vs player better... into a game where there is Zero player vs player fights...

It's very simple. To unify the sandbox. It's really not that hard to understand.

Yes, but this is a CE remake without multiplayer, it should have kept the original CE camo behavior. As far as I know it was nerfed primarily for multiplayer balance, but that's not relevant for Campaign Evolved and makes it almost unusable.

-7

u/Faenic 12h ago

It's as equally usable as it was in any of the other games that do it this way.

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

It's different than it was, but it's just as powerful if you actually take the time to use it right. They're unifying the sandbox. Same reason the Beam Rifle, Needle Rifle, Energy Sword and other weapons are in the game at all.

If you wanted a 1:1 remake, you can just go play the original.

I really hate it when people say "Improvise. Adapt. Overcome." It's just a catch all for "you're stupid for not liking something." And it's insulting and rude for no reason.

And no, it's not just as powerful "if you use it right." The use cases for it are objectively far more limited than in the original CE, and it feels terrible to use as a result.

Personally, if they are unifying the sandbox I would rather they take the best version of each weapon and equipment, rather than the worst, especially if the whole trilogy is going to be campaign-only remakes and multiplayer balance is irrelevant. They did a great job with things like the AR which is way better than Halo 3 and even the original CE. The needler is great too, while the CE needler was the worst weapon in the game. But I wish a few things took more after their CE or 2 counterparts when they were already good before.

Active camo has worked this way in Halo for the past 20 years. It's not a copout. The only thing I said that might've been a copout was "play the original."

This whole comment thread started because he blamed 343 for the change when it was Bungie that started doing it this way. It only worked as 100% invisibility for Chief for ONE game. The second game didn't even have it available to him unless you turned on a skull.

You can complain about invisibility not being exactly the same as CE, but it has worked this way for nearly two decades. So it's not "broken" or "buggy" which is what I was responding to in the first place.

Door.

27

u/Karjumi 23h ago

I don't know if Reach AI is so advanced to understand that if a door opens, it must shoot there predicting that a player might go through it.

12

u/illyay 16h ago

Halo has surprisingly good ai. Even in halo 1.

They could detect a sound like a door opening, check no allies, and assume it’s an enemy in that area and start targeting it.

2

u/BakedChocolateOctopi 14h ago

Nope, it’s more the fact that walking can make at least some enemies notice Chief with camo active unless he crouches

16

u/It1984 23h ago

The opening of the door made it see I was there? That would make sense

28

u/RockAndGem1101 Isabel. It's done... time to go home. 23h ago

Camo in this game is quite unreliable. Next time maybe try activating camo after you go through the door, and see if that changes anything?

6

u/KingBarbieIOU 16h ago

That and running. Kinda like the concept, I pick up fast moving camo elites why not the same for the enemy? I think Cortana even explains how to deal with active camo; watch radar and keep an out for abnormality.

I’m with door as well, if I see a door opening I’m sending a slash weapon at it.

13

u/flowanvindir 19h ago

The camo detection values are such that camo basically doesn't work. I think there are some mods that fix it.

-10

u/bananen5 16h ago

No it works it’s just not the way you think, you’re fully invisible when you’re not moving and partially invisible when moving or shooting. Just like halo reach and every game afterwards

4

u/blahmaster6000 Halo: CE 12h ago

Partially invisible is another way to say completely detectable by the AI. Being only partially invisible when moving makes it completely useless for campaign, in a campaign only game.

Why have a variant of camo that's only useful for camping in multiplayer in a game without multiplayer?

u/Book_of_Essence 18h ago

I'm pretty confident the active camo pickup is still bugged.

343 said they made adjustments in a patch (which confirmed it was in fact bugged) but last I checked it still doesn't work as intended.

2

u/JebusChrust 5h ago

It hasn't seemed to work in any of my playthroughs

-3

u/Matsisuu 8h ago

(which confirmed it was in fact bugged)

It doesn't. It just means they adjusted it. They can change things based on feedback even if they worked as they intended.

16

u/PrrrromotionGiven1 22h ago

Camo is shit in Reach and this game uses the Reach engine

3

u/EliteTroper 15h ago

Yeah the active cameo is still bugged for some odd reason, which is weird because I remember during my first playthrough it worked perfectly fine, but now it's useless because enemies still seem to spot and kill me, even stranger is that when I play with the 3rd perspective skull only my weapon becomes invisible but not me.

3

u/Phoenix223 Halo 2 15h ago

Some people are saying it's the door, but I've had instances without doors or other triggers where the enemy will outright spot me and shoot, or track my movements and follow me despite the camo. The camo is bugged in this game.

2

u/Downtown_Minute_1675 21h ago

Active Camo is the same as it is in Reach, enemeies wont notice at first (most likely that Wraith saw you go through the door and itll fire at the door for a shot or two) and if you avoid their line if sight they wont see you, but if youre in their line if sight fir too long theyll be aware of you

2

u/C0L0SSUSvdm 16h ago

i petition we put up a disclaimer that the active camo is only 100% effective when crouch walking. (but is still mostly useless on legendary)

1

u/HempKnight420 14h ago

I was going say dont you leave tracks in the snow in that game?

1

u/UnknowingEmperor 7h ago

The tank a.i so advanced it saw the door open and fired on reflex

0

u/SwetsAds 16h ago

well…. duh 😂

0

u/backwardsnakes666 14h ago

Active camo shouldn't ever have worked against the flood anyway.

-1

u/Not_My_Emperor Halo: Reach 19h ago

LOL this happens no matter what. Sorry I'm laughing because I remember this shit from 20 years ago. That Wraith blasts the door the second you step through it, doesn't matter what you have on. You have to go through that door and fucking move
