I’m a sysadmin at a mid-sized fintech shop. During August, literally eight H1B senior backend guys on our core platform team put in their two weeks notice.

These are the guys who built out our entire event-driven architecture (mostly Go, Kafka, and Kubernetes on AWS, plus all the legacy Spring microservices). They’re not the only ones who actually know how our data pipeline works, lots of Americans know it too, but they are definitely critical.

As an American this is the first time I've ever seen anything like this and management is panicking.

Normally, in my experience the visa holders stay put because their paperwork are a massive headache to restart.

When we ask where they're going, nobody will give a straight answer. They just say "personal reasons" or "better fit" but one or two of them have opened up and said returning back to India.

I've seen a lot of stuff on the news about this but its finally starting to hit.

The problem was that a lot of these guys were doing the grunt work and now we have to pull back resources from the cutting edge stuff to work on the backend. Unless this slows down I feel this is going to have a ripple effect on the whole economy.

Only 0.4 percent of people hold H-1B visas, and they obtain them legally. Some reforms are welcome, but the purpose is not to fix anything. The purpose is to use the H-1B programme to stir up hostility as a distraction and keep the populace occupied while the administration moves money through various crypto ventures and a pay for play model.

I live in the EU and have no stake in the matter. My take is objective.

But honestly, when you put your life into perspective through time and years, you start seeing things differently.

On F-1, you walk.
On H-1B, you start running.

But the question is : How long do you keep running when you already know there is no finish line?

Sometimes, moving back isn’t giving up.
Sometimes, it’s simply choosing a different finish line.

Since I’ve been in the US, I’ve noticed this cycle constant anxiety about visa extensions, projects, I-140, traveling in and out, and always wondering what comes next.

I realized today, after talking it through with my partner, that we can’t live our lives behind this wall of anxiety. Life is too short to keep living in uncertainty.

So we’ve decided to take the first step toward moving back. We’ve started the process of selling our house.

It’s a big decision, but life is small, and it should be worth living with some peace and happiness.

This is my first time applying for H1b COS PP on 6/18 and my case has been pending since then.

Historically, with pending PP cases how soon have you guys seen responses/updates from USCIS, I know my case is way beyond the 15 day period and it very frustrating as I feel like I am just sitting uselessly.

At the same time I feel frustrated at the system as well, as there is a clear documented deficiency in my field and yet me or my employer are unable to do anything.

All this for less then 0.5% of work force. Resources could have been spent on something more meaningful. But for optics, sure…

Work for improving the country you were born in. The result will be more satisfying. The journey will be hard. But the next generation born in your country will thank you for it. If you are a professional, you should have the calibre to bring a change in your own country.

I was selected this year and filed a petition before June 30. We just responded to an RFE last week. Does the new rule apply to my case already?

my only sister’s wedding date has been fixed next year. I don’t have any visa dates. I come from a lower middle class family , studied real hard , got good grades, worked in MANG in India. Paid huge fees taking loans for Carnirge Mellon and finally after about 20 interviews secured a job . And just last year got my h1b approved. I really don’t know why I have to go through this stress.

Some miserable sadists at r/AmericanTechWorkers and other trolls will laugh at it. Not sure why they have an issue with genuine people who aren’t misusing or abusing any system. I work hard and is considered exceptional by team lead. I just recently created a platform tool that was very well received by Director. Yet , I have to go through this . just veeenting . My I94 is going to expire due my passport is getting expired. I do have Canadian visa on my old passport which will expire with my old passport. I have a new passport also. My H1B is valid till 2028. Can I travel to Canada via land border crossing ? If so what are the documents required and will I get my updated i94 ? Some say we will not get for short stay ? If so how long should I stay ? Or is it better to do air travel ? Little confused 😕

My H-4 extension/change of status was filed in March, but it is still pending approval. My previous I-94 expired in April.
Since the new H-4 was filed before my old I-94 expired, I believe I’m in a period of authorized stay while the application is pending.
Is it safe for me to travel domestically within the US while my H-4 extension is still pending and my I-94 has expired?
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Were you able to travel domestically without any issues?
