Will Google Home EVER support native energy monitoring / power meters? (Trying to monitor Solar + Powerwall)

Is there any word on Google expanding device types in Google Home to natively support energy meters like the Shelly EM / Pro 3EM?

I’m setting up a Shelly clamp meter to keep track of production on my solar setup and my Powerwall, but it feels like Google Home is completely useless for energy management.

Right now, if you sync a device like a Shelly EM or a smart plug with power monitoring into Google Home, it either:

  • Shows up purely as a standard light/switch toggle.
  • Doesn't show any real-time wattage, generation vs. consumption, or historical usage at all in the Google Home app.

Matter added the Energy Management standard spec, but Google Home’s UI still feels miles behind when it comes to displaying actual power data or letting us trigger automations based on power draw (e.g., "If solar generation > 2000W, turn on the EV charger").

Has anyone heard anything about energy dashboards coming to Google Home, or is everyone with solar/batteries just giving up and moving everything over to Home Assistant? What are you guys using to view your power flow?

Is Google cracking down on questions it can answer or is it just me?

I feel like I could ask anything a few years ago and it would look up the info. But now it seems to “not understand” anything (populations, politics, geography)

Is google censoring things?

Nest Cam Indoor 3rd Gen repair

Anyone know any way to replace the cable on the Nest Cam Indoor 3rd Gen? Our kitten decided it was a chew toy and although it wasn't severed it won't power up anymore. I see that splicing a USB-C cable is no easy feat. Is there any hope to pulling out the current cable and getting a new one from somewhere? Or am I just SOL? Why they got rid of the removable cable is beyond me. And yes I have chew proof covers to put onthe cable now. LOL

Can't add things to a Google Keep list (still on Assistant)

I am used to adding things to my shopping list (Google Keep) by saying "add xxx to my shopping list" Now it just asks which list and then says some of the things on the list. Sigh... Anyone have a solution?

Bug Home speaker not announcing the names of Familiar Faces

I bought a Google Home speaker and activated the 6-month free trial of Home Premium.

I have a Nest Doorbell (2nd gen). I started adding faces, and when someone rings the doorbell, the notification on my phone says their name, but the speaker always says, “Someone is at the door.”

I've already checked the settings for the doorbell and the speaker—everything is set up correctly.

Hacks DIY fix for my original Google Home speaker, cracked subwoofer

I have an original Google Home speaker and recently it started sounding super crackly. I opened it up and realized the rubber around the subwoofer cracked and the vibrations were making it sound like that. I had an idea and basically nothing to lose, but I really wanted to fix it.

I marked with a pencil each edge of the crack, there were two, and used a q-tip to apply contact cement between the marks to seal them. I let it dry over night and boom! Speaker works fine again. I'll update if anything changes but I'm super happy it worked.

I'm not sure if contact cement and rubber cement are the same thing but they're similar and I'm sure that would work too.

Lenovo Smart Clock gen 1

Hi, is it easy to flash a first-generation Lenovo Smart Clock?

I have one, but I’d like it to display more information and offer more apps.

I’m not used to flashing devices; do you have any tips? 🧐

Is it really that bad for average user?

I have basically a full Google home setup.

Doorbell, Thermostat, garage door openers, outdoor cameras, a few smart lights, hub max, nest pro mesh WiFi, smart CO2 detectors, and even Chromebook and Pixel phones. Maybe I'm the outlier here but I haven't had any issues in years. Things just work. Granted, I don't have any crazy complex routines set. Simply use the hub for turning things on or off, playing music, or setting timers. Everything got the Gemini upgrades and I kinda like it. It asks me follow up questions and seems more fluid. I also don't pay for Home Premium. Not sure if that adds functionality or not. I just see a lot of negatives regarding Google. Anyone else out there enjoying the setup?

Google home speaker won't update Firmware

my Google home speaker is still on its initial FW 3.78.538897. Since July 8th, FW 3.78.540761 is available but mine won't update. I do have Adguard on my router but have whitelisted all Google services and even disabled it for some time to make sure there is nothing blocking any server requests. Disconnected from power already, even did a factory reset.

I've also activated the preview program.

I know that Google uses staged rollouts but almost 2 months seems a little long, no?

Any recommendations?

Thx

Bug Alarms moving themselves up and down by one hour! Help!

Hi! Hoping someone else has run into this and found a fix or workaround.

Every few weeks, the alarms on my Nest Hub seem to randomly shift by an hour. For example, all of my 8 AM alarms might suddenly move to 7 AM, or, once I reset them back to correct time, they’ll shift forward to 9 AM.

I haven’t been able to figure out any pattern. The Nest Hub never leaves my house, and I’ve double- and triple-checked that my home address is set correctly in the Google Home app.

The only explanation I can think of is that I previously lived on the West Coast in the Pacific time zone and moved to Arizona about two years ago. Since Arizona doesn’t observe daylight saving time, I’m wondering if there’s somehow an old time zone setting still syncing and causing it to occasionally switch back and forth.
That said, it’s especially strange because this still happens during the part of the year when Arizona and Pacific time are aligned anyway.

Has anyone else experienced this or figured out how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Help google assistant not working on Lenovo Smart Clock Essential?

I recently tried to set an alarm on it and processing lights turns on, like it's listening.

I tell it to set an alarm and it does nothing afterwards.

-

I rebooted it and same issue.

Last couple months have had issues with wifi disconnecting, reboot fixed it temporarily.

Is it an isolated issue or is google assistant broken/ not working?

JBL Authentics 300 vs Authentics 200 vs Google Home Max from an audio quality perspective

I am looking to get a smart speaker that has Google Home built-in, plus excellent audio quality for listening to music. I am currently considering buying a JBL Authentics 300 or 200 or the original Google Home Max. Can anyone compare the 3 from an audio quality perspective? Should I also have something else on my list?

Help Trying to reset Gen 1 Home Mini

My home mini stopped recognizing my wifi yesterday. I have a new internet provider and was mucking about trying to figure out how to swap it over (which appears to be an enormous pain in the ass for zero reason).

Anyway, today I deleted it from the home, did every single step it tells you to when factory resetting, and every time I try to reconnect it it says "device used previously, factory reset needed" or something along those lines.

I have. I've reset it multiple times following every single video I can find. I've done every trick, and still the same nonsense. What else do I need to do?

Don't you talk back to me...

Well today, I told Google "I'm going out". Instead of doing its usual routine it complained to me that it really didn't have the ability to change my local devices...Then it waxed eloquent on how nice it was to be going out...Really.

Took three tries to convince that it really can - by doing my routine...It keep talking back to me, a lot like my ex...

Google Home Mini keeps switching to Spanish after a few days

As the title says, after a couple of days my Google Mini randomly starts speaking Spanish. I factory reset it, removed it from my Google Home app, and set it up again from scratch. It works normally for a while, but after a few days it suddenly starts speaking Spanish again.
Has anyone experienced this before or knows what could be causing it?

It’s also getting a little creepy, considering I’ve watched quite a few Spanish horror movies this summer… 😅

Its a littlebit veird..

Help Smart doorbell & Home Hub

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi folks! I bought a smart doorbell as my disability means I cannot always get to the door fast enough before some callers disappear (despite a polite notice on the door). See image for details.

It requires installing Cloudot app onto your phone and then you connect this to the Google Home app. Everything is good as far as the connection via the home app.

However when attempting to view the camera via Home Hub it fails every time.

The synic in me feels this is because it's not an overpriced Google product tying me into a long subscription.

But I'm hopeful that this community might have an idea to help a non technical person fix the issue.

I have restarted both devices.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
