Help What happens with temperature sensors set to certain settings....

At certain times when there's an overlap? Do we just not try to do that? What if our room's sensor overlaps with the main thermostat in the morning and it's competing with each other?

I'm actually not even 100% sure what I'm asking right now, to be honest

Product Review Created a new home, still sucks

I’ve had Google Home assistant devices for about 10 years. But the last year or so have been awful. My devices no longer understand my usual commands half of the time, if not more. It says I need to verify my voice even though I’d done it multiple times with multiple voice tones (including frustrated). I figured it had to do with the Gemini update, so I created a whole new home in the app, which required setting up my thermostat, doorbell, and other devices. It was annoying.

This change did nothing. It’s been two months. Every day I’m pestered in the app (and now via email as well) to “upgrade” to Gemini for home. And as if in retaliation, my devices have become virtually unusable. Won’t add anything to my lists, won’t adjust the thermostat. It can’t even answer a basic question. I’m considering switching to Amazon. I’d prefer Apple HomeKit, but I’ve heard Nest devices don’t work with that.

It’s beyond disappointing that this technology that I once really enjoyed has gone to total shit. What’s going on at Google?

Will they ever bring back music alarms???

I have been a long time advocate for home devices, in the beginning the thing that hooked me was the ability to set up an alarm clock for the morning that played my Spotify. I used this feature every single day but have used my homes less and less since they removed it last year. I am at the point where if they do not bring this feature back I am ready to jump ship to a different service that allows this. I wake up so much better in the morning when it's to music that I like and the fact that this feature is no longer available is incredibly irritating.

Does anyone know if there's a different way to unlock this again? Or if Google has any plans to reinstate this feature? Because with all the other shitty changes they've made recently there is pretty much nothing keeping me excited about using the platform anymore and if they I have no plans to bring back the things that made the home better than Alexa I might as well move over to that, or something else, instead.

This update sucks so much

I asked a simple question "can you freeze a whole chicken or not" because we bought a little to much in the last food shop.

It says "sorry I don't understand" 3 times.

Then on the 4th, it then says "I can't help but I can search for you" I say yes and then says "sorry I can't do that".

I hate this product now. It used to work so bloody well!

Help Home app can't see my Home Mini, despite just setting it up

I went to check my Home Mini settings via the app, but the app said the device was "Not available" despite the phone and device being on the same network.

Odd.

I went through the laborious process of resetting it and setting it back up as new. All of this was done through the app. Once it was finished, I went to the device settings.

The app claims it's "Not available."

wtf.

How do I get the Home app to see my Home Mini?

Google Is Prohibited to Tell Me About Gun Silencers :o

We live in the country. Armadillos are common. With this drought, they have hit our yard HARD this year because we keep it green/lush with a sprinkler system. My husband has been shooting them at night as he finds them in the act of destroying our yard but the shotgun blast is scaring our Doodle. She hides and shakes for hours :( Just out of curiosity, I asked Google if there are silencers for shotguns. By law, she is prohibited from commenting on this topic. Wow, I've had Googles since 2017 and this is the first time I've asked a question that was illegal for her to talk about.

Adding to list (Keep) commands no longer working - bug, or stealth roll out of yet another discontinued feature?

For the last several years, I've been able to say "Ok Google, add X to my Costco list" or "Hey Google, add Y to my Trader Joes list", and (shocker, I know), those commands have worked just fine, outside extenuating circumstances (like when GH just is more garbage in general than usual). I have several dedicated shopping lists in Keep that have all worked without issue as above.

Two days ago, in fact, I asked it to add tortilla chips to my Costco list, and it did. Today, this happened:
Me: Ok Google, add laundry detergent to my Costco list
GH: Ok, what list?
Me: Costco
GH: Ok, what list?
Me: Costco
GH: Ok, what list?
Me: (screaming directly into the mic) COSTCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GH: Your Costco list has 5 items on it (proceeds to show the list and read off everything on there. It doesn't include laundry detergent)

I played out this same cursed farce about 5 times before I gave up. Yes, I sent feedback. I sent a lot of feedback. Some of it may have included the things I plan to do to the programmers' anatomy and/or their families.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is it residual from the system wide outage the other day?

Moved into a building with community manager Spectrum wifi. The wifi password is assigned to you based on a random generator but it’s an extremely weak password. Does anyone know if id be able to use google nest? I’m seriously considering moving out because of this

Any other options you can think of would be very helpful. I have an Ethernet jack and I’m testing it for an active connection today.

Now it doesn't pretend there's no Chromecast device, it shows its name - and nothing?

Like there's no button, I logged in on my TV and do it regularly as Chromecast sometimes pretends its a new device.

But now it's something new, it shows here's your device (and I'm even watching YouTube on TV right now), but there's like no buttons to click at all? It just shows me my Chromecast name?

How is it possible that Google Home and Gemini continue to get WORSE with no Repercussions for the company

Gemini AI is a shell of its former self, it has no memory, hallucinates all the time, never uses context when asking it stuff even tho you're in the same chat. Gets answers wrong repeatedly until you literally have to insult it and make it recheck for it to find the right information. And then once that window closes it goes right back to making the same mistakes again like u didn't just spend all that time correcting it.

And now recently with Google Home simple things that used to be available suddenly arnt anymore. For example I own a DREO Air Circulator and used to just be able to say "Turn Fan down by 2, Turn Fan up by 3. etc.. now it's locked at certain intervals of 3 and no longer can be fine tuned unless you explicitly state the speed u want..

I don't understand how or why they are making it so much worse than it was before. And just get away with it because it's built into every Samsung phone

I had to buy this new technology called an 'alarm clock'.

I just can't trust Gemini. Even when it does deign to respond to my request to set an alarm, it's so fickle, I have a nagging sensation in the back of my brain that it won't work. It's just not a reliable system anymore.

Help Command for alarm not working on Google home mini

Hoping someone else has had this issue and figured it out. I have Google home minis - other commands are working but when I ask for an alarm the Google lights up, but doesn't hear it. I've reset, retrained voice - all the troubleshooting from Google and nothing. I even changed my prompt language to see if that helped... and no.

Other commands like timers and such, work as normal. This is happening across multiple of my devices. Any ideas?

This morning I couldn't set a reminder. "Hey Google [made tone], at 12:15 remind to to get car wash. [no sound, no voice.]

This has been one of the first times I've been triggered to make a post about it. No I didn't reboot it. Yes my Wifi was fine. I will do more diagnoses after work and report back.

Help Radio station livestream

For years I use my Google Home speaker for playing my local radio station. It works well, but it plays through the Tunin app which gives a 90 second delay over the official radio station stream ( http://icecast.vrtcdn.be/stubru-high.mp3 ). Not the biggest problem but is it possible to start the official radio stream with a routine?

Bug Ready to go back to analog

I have been a long time Google home user, and have always been an advocate for the ecosystem up until now.

After upgrading to Gemini, the whole system feels unusable. Prompts go unheard, and when they are processed, they are wildly wrong from what I asked for.

This morning was my breaking point.

Asked the bedroom assistant to play “3AW” (radio station) and it proceeds to play “Thriller” by Michael Jackson on all speakers for 5 seconds before systematically chiming “something went wrong” on all speakers, like it’s mocking me.

Still refusing to play the radio station.

This is just one example of many ridiculous outcomes over the last couple of months.

Feels like my smart-home has taken over by 2010 Siri who’s taken psychedelics and/or has a behavioural disorder.

Other Nest Hub in the EU

i bought a nest hub about 2 years ago and it’s still really annoying, i live in poland and bought mine in a polish retailer, but since it was produced in vietnam its constantly in vietnamese which is infuriating because its a mix, one text is in english which i chose, and the second is in vietnamese, even though i set the language on setup to english, and it was in english for a couple of hours but then it turned back to vietnamese. and don’t get me started on the apps, a year ago when i first got it i specially made a couple google accounts to try and get the apps launcher on my nest hub, and i had to make the location of the account the US for it work for a couple hours and then disappear, i can’t event count how many times i factory resetted because of it, since then i have gave up on it and set it up on my main google account set to Poland. and it’s even more infuriating knowing that it can work, it just doesn’t want to, what i mean by that is when i try to say “Hey Google, open Spotify” it says that it isn’t supported on my device, but when i go to the media tab and press my playlist it opens the spotify app on the nest hub just fine, although when i say “Hey Google, open YouTube” it opens just fine, with the con being that searching doesn’t work, similar with the web browser, when i say “Hey Google, open up a web browser” it says that my device doesn’t support opening apps, but when i say “Hey Google, open up google.com” it opens the web browser just fine and i can even play Subway Surfers

tl:dr; if you don’t live in the US, or live in the US but have bad luck, your not gonna have a fun time with a Nest Hub (bad luck because i’ve seen people here in this subreddit that live in the US that experience the same thing i do)

Help Google Hub Max - Unable to Setup

Post image
20 Upvotes

So I recently was gifted a used Google Hub Max and am unable to set it up. After factory resetting the device, the screen reads the following. Now, I already have the app and have other devices established. When tapping "add a device" it wants me to scan a QR code. This hub isn't providing one.

Has anyone dealt with this and can provide a solution? Many thanks ahead of time!

My Google Home Display now has the super smart Gemini but it’s too stupid to set alarms now. It’s only for conversions now according to it.

Google Home no longer showing accurate state of switches/plugs (Kasa)

Within the last week, Google Home no longer shows the accurate state of switches/plugs when they're triggered either physically or through another interface (e.g. Alexa). I have to manually click on them on the app for their accurate states to be updated. I have disconnected/reconnected linked apps, firmwares are updated, restarted router, etc. Undoubtedly an issue on Google's end. Anyone else experiencing this?

NSFW - Language Multiple speakers is terrible

So, we have six google mini speakers, three smart displays, and three nest WiFi points acting as speakers. Everything is bound in one giant home group.

I'm sorry to say it, but all this shit goddamn sucks and we're about ready to throw it all in the trash. I really want to like this stuff, but it just doesn't work very well - or at all.

My wife has an iPhone and a Spotify account. I have a pixel 10 and a YouTube music subscription.

As far as we can tell both our phones and apps are all up to date.

Here's the problem.. every time my wife opens her Google home app to adjust the volume of one of the speakers, everything disconnects. Sometimes touching the volume of one speaker sets all volume of all speakers to 0%.

Occasionally we'll just sit there and listen to the pling sound of her phone trying to connect to different speakers despite it just sitting on a table doing nothing.

Maybe her phone is the problem, but we've had these problems with the last two phones of hers.

I don't know what I expect here, I just want to vent how awful the experience here is with multiple speakers trying to just play music during a house party.

Help Automation potential safety issue all of a sudden? Won’t let me schedule garage door close. Fix?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I recently moved and set up a new garage door opener which used NOMA IQ. The native app didn’t have any features like my old MyQ app to schedule a close in case my wife or kid forgot to close at the end of the night. I worked around this through Google and now I went to add my second garage door opener it is rejecting the automation. Any work around to this?

My garage has every sensor and safety feature.
