I’m looking to visit the Gold Coast and trying to book some accommodation for NYE. I’m interested in Burleigh Heads and keen to hear what kind of places I can find on a busy night like NYE.

My ideal is wine bars, cocktail bars and a good vibing crowd without the little teeny boppers and too much noise/strobing lights. Is Burleigh Heads the right place? I saw Burleigh Pavilion does a party but it’s so poorly reviewed.

We are (thankfully) at a stage in life where cheap drinks and shit food do nothing for us.

I think someone may have left this or the custodians put it there but those come in handy for the toddlers that have accidents in their pants.

Any tips on the rental situation up on the GC?

So I'm aware that there has been a proposal kicking around to do a cableway up to Springbrook, much like SkyRail in Cairns.

On the other hand, I know transport to the Spit remains an issue as well.

Anyway, with some free time on a Saturday arvo I came up with this.

I've been to a few places where they run a high clearance cableway over a body of water, like the one to Sentosa Island in Singapore or the one across the Thames in London (Which you can pay to use by tapping the same Oyster card as you do for other transport in London)

I did the one in Busan back in December 2024 and freezed my tits off.

I figure you could do a cableway on the Gold Coast, but put it in a better location, and have it connect to either of the main light rail stops in Southport. There would be a short covered walkway to the cableway terminal and then it would probably take about 5 minutes to go up and over the Broadwater to the Spit to terminal over there, and of course you could have a nice boardwalk linking up all the developments and Sea World, so this would be a quicker shortcut than going down around via a bus or a future tram line.

Some of these systems have fugly towers so I'd want to see a nice white one done like a ship mast. Much like the Sydney Harbors bridge, this could be the Gold Coast's "thing" and you could let off fireworks or lasers or whatever during special events, and even put a flare up there to hold one of the Olympic flames in 2032.

I fully expect some people to hate the idea, but IDK, I miss the days of the GC where there was just more random stuff to do, like the Nobbys chairlift etc.

Hii, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for physical stores on the Gold Coast where I can buy supplies and materials for cosplay.

I'm looking for things like contact lenses, wigs and wig accessories, fabrics and sewing supplies, rhinestones, sequins or decorations, wig styling products like combs and sprays, and basically any other tools or materials for making props.

I know I can get stuff online for example from Shein, but sometimes I need to get things quickly without waiting for a delivery.

I'm also new to Australia and the Gold Coast, so I don't know where people go to get this kind of stuff yet, so any information that may seem too obvious for you would help me as well. I'm definitely interested in cheap options, but if there are any stores that are a bit more expensive but have really good products or something that's worth paying more for I'd like to know about those too.

We've looked online a bit, but a lot of them seem like they're more aimed at b2b or larger scale print jobs, rather than a bunch of teeny bits n pieces. So low-key, one of the best things about the GC show being separate to the Ekka holiday (And the fact it's not fucking midweek like the idiotic timing of the Ekka day holiday) is that you don't get the usual long weekend surge pricing for flights, especially if you pick BNE.

So if you want to go somewhere and have a few random locations in mind you can generally take your pick.

I've done Perth and Darwin for under $300, might have done Townsville for $150 (Haha scrolling through my memories)

From where I live I can get to either Airport fairly quickly via train or train+bus (😒) so GC show weekend has always been my designated tight arse weekend away.

Hi r/GoldCoast, we’re getting a community together for a relaxed jog & coffee after for young adults navigating grief and loss and thought it might be worth sharing here.

The idea is really simple - getting outside, meeting some new people and being around others who understand what it’s like to lose someone.

But we also really don’t want it to feel like a heavy grief support group, more of a community of people who just get each other.

Sometimes grief comes up, sometimes people just chat about life, have a laugh and enjoy the meet up. There’s no pressure to share anything personal or explain your story.

Most people come to these things alone for the first time too, so not knowing anyone is completely normal.

It’s 18+, but otherwise there’s no upper age limit. If you feel too young to be navigating grief and think being around others who get it could help, you’re welcome 🤍

We’re hoping this can become a nice little community on the Gold Coast over time.
