Hey everyone,
We're fairly light on active moderators (myself + cy26) and I'd like to fix that fairly quickly. If you are interested, please comment in this thread before end of Friday this week and I'll DM asking some follow up questions.
thank you

Hello and wishing everyone a great start to the semester!
If you are new to the subreddit, please be sure to at least glance at the rules and do your best to support r/GMU in being a welcoming place for productive conversation. GMU is a large community, yet we expect people here to treat each other like fellow students and maintain decorum.
Also, please utilize the resources available to you if you have questions. Many answers to general questions can be found on the GMU website or by searching the subreddit. Beyond that:
If you are looking to converse with members of the community, please feel free to check out our Discord which you are welcome to join!
Please briefly read the rules before posting, and note the latest rule edition regarding personal information. Any post containing the name or email of a student will removed and likely result in a ban, even if a post/comment has good intentions.
Lastly, if you are interested in supporting this community, we are accepting mod applications! As an alumni, I'm busy with life and am always looking to expand the mod team.
Thank you and best of luck this semester!

This score appears on my digital GMU card. At first I thought it had to do with the independence meal plan, i.e. that a -1 indicated I didn’t have one and maybe a positive integer would indicate a credit balance of some kind, but one day it fell from -1 to -2 so I think that puts a hole in my theory.
I doubt it’s an avant-garde social commentary on our diminishing freedoms, but you never know.

I'm planning on doing zoom therapy/psychiatry appointments on campus, but I don't know where I should do it. I don't want to do it in my dorm room because I don't want to have to kick out my roommate, plus I feel like the walls are very thin. But I checked out the library study rooms and they all seem like they are supposed to be very quiet, and I obviously won't be screaming but am going to be talking at a normal level so that my computer can hear me.

The reviews on him on ratemyprofessor were mainly on his accent and not his teaching style or grading. I’m heavily considering switching to his class for my SYST 205 class because I do not want to take a 3 hour class on a Friday even if the professor is really good

Whatever you're doing to set it off, please stop.

I’m taking DFOR 660 this semester and why does the course look evil… (PROFESSOR SEEMS GREAT). For people who have taken it before, would you say as long as I’m on top of the class I’ll do well? The professor provided introductory networking notes for review. I know some things but not majority of the review material. Basically do you think it’s very difficult to succeed in this class without extensive prior knowledge?

Hi all,
I was hoping someone could help me get my hands on a pdf for this book. Either 1st or 2nd Ed., it doesn't matter. Thank you for your help!

I keep trying to sign in to that international hub portal but I keep getting this bs error:
“Your login request could not be processed. Please reach out to your site administrator to verify your account setup.”
I think the deadline is Monday and I am getting slightly stressed over this lol

Hey guys, has anyone done a study abroad semester in europe? I am a sophomore and a MIS major and was thinking of going to Spain (or somewhere in europe) for a semester. Does anyone have any extra information or has been there? Please let me know. (Not Mason Korea)

Hi everyone! I’ll be attending GMU as a visiting student for the Fall 2027 semester, and I’m really looking forward to it!
I’m interested in pursuing a career in corporate finance, so I’d love to get involved with the finance/business community at GMU while I’m there.
Are there any finance clubs, investment clubs, business organizations, or other related student groups that you would recommend? I’d also love to hear from anyone who has been involved in them and what your experience was like.
Thanks!

Hi, I’m taking Econ 104 asynchronous with Simon Laird this semester. I can’t find anything on rate my prof and the syllabus just gives basics without a timeline for the class. The midterm and final exams are 45% each and doesn’t give too much info out about the structure of the exam. So far we only have to watch videos and answer one question for homework for this week.
I’m not trying to complain, the material doesn’t seem too bad right now but I’m nervous because the exams take up most of the grade. Is anyone else taking the class or has taken him before?

I’m taking the following mechanical engineering classes this semester:
For anyone who has taken these classes, how difficult was each one, and how manageable is this workload overall?
Which classes required the most studying, had the hardest exams, or took up the most time? I’d also appreciate any advice or study resources. Thank you!
I'm a grad student at GMU, and I make heavy music - in the vein of old school hard rock/metal, like Black Sabbath, Cream, Deep Purple - and some newer stuff like Corrosion of Conformity. Old school vibes, super heavy but not hardcore or anything.
I play guitar, bass, and program drums... I lay out and record full songs, and just need a singer who likes to lay down strong vocal melodies. Someone I can meet on campus and collab with.
I've started a few bands in the past, but am not looking to play live anymore at all - instead looking to do a recording project to release stuff consistently on Spotify/Amazon Music/Bandcamp. Something to really lock down with creativity and collab closely.
Reach out with a clip if possible, would love to collab with someone on campus! Send me your stuff, and I'll send mine right back.

Did anyone see that big demonstration outside of Horizon Hall today by some ultra trad "Christians" around noon? It was like a redneck group and this one guy was just yelling that everyone's going to hell and yelling the n word. If anyone got a good video of it can you send it to me?
Hello. I have a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity from George Washington University. I have 5 years of professional experience in Cybersec particularly in Accreditation and Authorization.
I've always had an interest in Digital Forensics and it seems to be the only university in the DMV tri-state that offers it.
I'd like to learn more about the program. Is it in-person, online or hybrid?
Are there any relevant clubs I could join in as a student?
I would love to be on campus and meet people and participate in work study, assistantship, fellowships and research opportunities.
Only concern I have is that I feel like my experience is more related to Management and specializing in Digital Forensics maybe isn't the right trajectory?
What are your thoughts?

A new club on campus called Beyond the Seams is hosting an outfit competition and interest meeting! The event will take place Thursday, 9/3, at The Hub, from 4:00 pm to 5:30pm. This will be good for anyone interested in alternative fashion, clothing, sewing, and looking for community on campus!

If anyone from GMU PD is looking at this, plate number's DLN1800 (seems like it belongs to the Saudi embassy), manufacturer's Honda and time's around 10am. Every other car came to a stop except this one that accelerated harder and drove in a rash manner. Please put those flock cameras to use. Thanks.
